1 D ios le dijo a Jacob: «Prepárate para ir a Betel y quedarte allí. En Betel harás un altar al Dios que se te apareció cuando huías de tu hermano Esaú.»

And God saith unto Jacob, `Rise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there, and make there an altar to God, who appeared unto thee in thy fleeing from the face of Esau thy brother.'

2 E ntonces Jacob dijo a su familia y a todos los que estaban con él: «Desháganse de los dioses ajenos que hay entre ustedes; purifíquense y cámbiense de ropa,

And Jacob saith unto his household, and unto all who with him, `Turn aside the gods of the stranger which in your midst, and cleanse yourselves, and change your garments;

3 y preparémonos para ir a Betel. Allí haré un altar al Dios que me respondió en el día de mi angustia, y que me ha acompañado por dondequiera que he andado.»

and we rise, and go up to Bethel, and I make there an altar to God, who is answering me in the day of my distress, and is with me in the way that I have gone.'

4 E llos le entregaron a Jacob todos los dioses ajenos que había en su poder, y los zarcillos que llevaban en las orejas; y Jacob los enterró bajo la encina que estaba cerca de Siquén.

And they give unto Jacob all the gods of the stranger that in their hand, and the rings that in their ears, and Jacob hideth them under the oak which by Shechem;

5 C uando salieron, el terror de Dios cayó sobre las ciudades de los alrededores, y nadie persiguió a los hijos de Jacob.

and they journey, and the terror of God is on the cities which round about them, and they have not pursued after the sons of Jacob.

6 J acob y todo el pueblo que estaba con él llegaron a Luz (es decir, Betel), ciudad que está en la tierra de Canaán,

And Jacob cometh in to Luz which in the land of Canaan (it Bethel), he and all the people who with him,

7 y Jacob edificó un altar, y a ese lugar lo llamó El Betel, porque allí se le había aparecido Dios cuando huía de su hermano.

and he buildeth there an altar, and proclaimeth at the place the God of Bethel: for there had God been revealed unto him, in his fleeing from the face of his brother.

8 A llí murió Débora, nodriza de Rebeca, y fue sepultada al pie de Betel, debajo de la encina, la cual fue llamada Alón Bacut.

And Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, dieth, and she is buried at the lower part of Bethel, under the oak, and he calleth its name `Oak of weeping.'

9 U na vez más, Dios se le apareció a Jacob cuando volvió de Padán Aram, y lo bendijo.

And God appeareth unto Jacob again, in his coming from Padan-Aram, and blesseth him;

10 L e dijo Dios: «Tu nombre es Jacob. Pero ya no te llamarás Jacob; ahora tu nombre será Israel.» Y ése fue su nombre.

and God saith to him, `Thy name Jacob: thy name is no more called Jacob, but Israel is thy name;' and He calleth his name Israel.

11 Y Dios también le dijo: «Yo soy el Dios omnipotente. Reprodúcete y multiplícate. De ti saldrá una nación, y reyes, y un conjunto de naciones.

And God saith to him, `I God Almighty; be fruitful and multiply, a nation and an assembly of nations is from thee, and kings from thy loins go out;

12 L a tierra que les he dado a Abrahán y a Isaac, te la daré a ti, y a tu descendencia después de ti.»

and the land which I have given to Abraham and to Isaac -- to thee I give it, yea to thy seed after thee I give the land.'

13 D espués Dios se apartó de Jacob y del lugar donde había hablado con él.

And God goeth up from him, in the place where He hath spoken with him.

14 E n ese lugar Jacob levantó una señal de piedra, y como libación derramó aceite sobre ella.

And Jacob setteth up a standing pillar in the place where He hath spoken with him, a standing pillar of stone, and he poureth on it an oblation, and he poureth on it oil;

15 A l lugar donde Dios había hablado con él, Jacob le puso por nombre Betel. Muerte de Raquel

and Jacob calleth the name of the place where God spake with him Bethel.

16 D espués partieron de Betel. Pero aún estaban como a media legua de distancia de Efrata, cuando Raquel dio a luz, y tuvo un parto difícil.

And they journey from Bethel, and there is yet a kibrath of land before entering Ephratha, and Rachel beareth, and is sharply pained in her bearing;

17 E ntre las dificultades de su parto, la partera le dijo: «No tengas miedo, que también tendrás este hijo.»

and it cometh to pass, in her being sharply pained in her bearing, that the midwife saith to her, `Fear not, for this also a son for thee.'

18 C uando Raquel exhalaba el último suspiro (pues murió), le puso por nombre Benoní; pero su padre lo llamó Benjamín.

And it cometh to pass in the going out of her soul (for she died), that she calleth his name Ben-Oni; and his father called him Benjamin;

19 Y Raquel murió y fue sepultada en el camino de Efrata, que también es Belén.

and Rachel dieth, and is buried in the way to Ephratha, which Bethlehem,

20 S obre su sepultura, Jacob levantó un pilar, que hasta el día de hoy es la señal de la sepultura de Raquel.

and Jacob setteth up a standing pillar over her grave; which the standing pillar of Rachel's grave unto this day.

21 Y partió Israel de allí, y plantó su tienda más allá de Migdal Edar.

And Israel journeyeth, and stretcheth out his tent beyond the tower of Edar;

22 M ientras Israel vivía en aquella tierra, Rubén fue y durmió con Bilá, la concubina de su padre. Pero esto llegó a oídos de Israel. Los hijos de Jacob Los hijos de Israel fueron doce:

and it cometh to pass in Israel's dwelling in that land, that Reuben goeth, and lieth with Bilhah his father's concubine; and Israel heareth.

23 l os hijos de Lea: Rubén, el primogénito de Jacob; Simeón, Leví, Judá, Isacar y Zabulón.

And the sons of Jacob are twelve. Sons of Leah: Jacob's first-born Reuben, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun.

24 L os hijos de Raquel: José y Benjamín.

Sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.

25 L os hijos de Bilá, sierva de Raquel: Dan y Neftalí.

And sons of Bilhah, Rachel's maid-servant: Dan and Naphtali.

26 L os hijos de Zilpa, sierva de Lea: Gad y Aser. Éstos fueron los hijos que le nacieron a Jacob en Padán Aram. Muerte de Isaac

And sons of Zilpah, Leah's maid-servant: Gad and Asher. These sons of Jacob, who have been born to him in Padan-Aram.

27 J acob fue a visitar a Isaac, su padre, en Mamre, es decir, la ciudad de Arba, que es Hebrón, donde habitaron Abrahán e Isaac.

And Jacob cometh unto Isaac his father, at Mamre, the city of Arba (which Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac have sojourned.

28 I saac llegó a vivir ciento ochenta años,

And the days of Isaac are a hundred and eighty years,

29 y exhaló el espíritu siendo anciano y lleno de días. Murió y fue reunido con su pueblo, y sus hijos Esaú y Jacob lo sepultaron.

and Isaac expireth, and dieth, and is gathered unto his people, aged and satisfied with days; and bury him do Esau and Jacob his sons.
