1 » De allí partimos en dirección al desierto, por el camino del Mar Rojo, tal y como el Señor me lo había dicho, y durante mucho tiempo rodeamos el monte de Seir.

`And we turn, and journey into the wilderness, the way of the Red Sea, as Jehovah hath spoken unto me, and we go round the mount of Seir many days.

2 E ntonces el Señor habló conmigo, y me dijo:

`And Jehovah speaketh unto me, saying,

3 “ Ustedes ya han rodeado bastante este monte. Ahora diríjanse al norte.

Enough to you -- is the going round of this mount; turn for yourselves northward.

4 O rdena al pueblo lo siguiente: ‘Cuando ustedes pasen por el territorio de sus hermanos, es decir, los hijos de Esaú, que habitan en Seir, ellos van a tener miedo de ustedes. Pero tengan mucho cuidado.

`And the people command thou, saying, Ye are passing over into the border of your brethren, sons of Esau, who are dwelling in Seir, and they are afraid of you; and ye have been very watchful,

5 N o se metan con ellos, porque yo no les voy a dar de su tierra ni siquiera lo que alcancen a cubrir con un pie. A Esaú le he dado en propiedad el monte de Seir.

ye do not strive with them, for I do not give to you of their land even the treading of the sole of a foot; for a possession to Esau I have given mount Seir.

6 U stedes comprarán de ellos alimentos, y se los pagarán y comerán; y también comprarán de ellos agua, y beberán.’

`Food ye buy from them with money, and have eaten; and also water ye buy from them with money, and have drunk,

7 E l Señor tu Dios te ha bendecido en todo lo que haces, y él sabe que andas por este gran desierto. Estos cuarenta años el Señor tu Dios ha estado contigo, y nada te ha faltado.”

for Jehovah thy God hath blessed thee in all the work of thy hands; He hath known thy walking in this great wilderness these forty years; Jehovah thy God with thee; thou hast not lacked anything.

8 E ntonces nos alejamos del territorio de nuestros hermanos, los hijos de Esaú, que habitaban en Seir. Tomamos el camino del Arabá, desde Elat y Ezión Guéber, y volvimos para tomar el camino del desierto de Moab.

`And we pass by from our brethren, sons of Esau, who are dwelling in Seir, by the way of the plain, by Elath, and by Ezion-Gaber; and we turn, and pass over the way of the wilderness of Moab;

9 » El Señor me dijo: “No molestes a Moab, ni trabes combate con ellos, porque no voy a darte posesión de su tierra. A los hijos de Lot les he dado Ar en propiedad.

and Jehovah saith unto me, Do not distress Moab, nor stir thyself up against them battle, for I do not give to thee of their land a possession; for to the sons of Lot I have given Ar a possession.'

10 ( Hace tiempo, esa tierra la habitaron los emitas, que eran gente grande y numerosa, y alta como los hijos de Anac.

`The Emim formerly have dwelt in it, a people great, and numerous, and tall, as the Anakim;

11 T ambién ellos eran considerados gigantes, como los hijos de Anac, aunque los moabitas los llaman emitas.

Rephaim they are reckoned, they also, as the Anakim; and the Moabites call them Emim.

12 S eir estuvo habitada por los horeos, pero los hijos de Esaú los expulsaron de allí; los arrojaron de su presencia, y en su lugar ellos habitaron el lugar, como lo hizo Israel en la tierra que les dio el Señor por posesión.)

And in Seir have the Horim dwelt formerly; and the sons of Esau dispossess them, and destroy them from before them, and dwell in their stead, as Israel hath done to the land of his possession, which Jehovah hath given to them;

13 ” Y ahora, ¡levántense y pasen el arroyo de Zered!” »Entonces pasamos el arroyo de Zered.

now, rise ye, and pass over for yourselves the brook Zered; and we pass over the brook Zered.

14 E l tiempo transcurrido, desde que salimos de Cadés Barnea hasta que pasamos el arroyo de Sered, fue de treinta y ocho años. Para entonces, tal y como el Señor se lo había jurado, ya habían muerto todos los hombres en pie de guerra que había en el campamento,

`And the days which we have walked from Kadesh-Barnea until that we have passed over the brook Zered, thirty and eight years, till the consumption of all the generation of the men of battle from the midst of the camp, as Jehovah hath sworn to them;

15 p ues la mano del Señor había venido sobre ellos para destruirlos en medio del campamento, hasta acabar con ellos.

and also the hand of Jehovah hath been against them, to destroy them from the midst of the camp, till they are consumed.

16 » Después de que murieron todos los hombres de guerra que había entre el pueblo,

`And it cometh to pass, when all the men of battle have finished dying from the midst of the people,

17 e l Señor habló conmigo, y me dijo:

that Jehovah speaketh unto me, saying,

18 “ Hoy vas a cruzar el territorio de Moab, para dirigirte a Ar.

Thou art passing over to-day the border of Moab, even Ar,

19 C uando ya estés cerca de los hijos de Amón, no los molestes ni trabes combate con ellos; porque no voy a darte en posesión su territorio. Esa tierra se la he dado en propiedad a los hijos de Lot.

and thou hast come near over-against the sons of Ammon, thou dost not distress them, nor stir up thyself against them, for I do not give of the land of the sons of Ammon to thee a possession; for to the sons of Lot I have given it a possession.

20 ( Esa región fue también considerada tierra de gigantes. En otro tiempo fue habitada por gigantes, a los cuales los amonitas llamaban zanzumitas.

`A land of Rephaim it is reckoned, even it; Rephaim dwelt in it formerly, and the Ammonites call them Zamzummim;

21 E ran gente fuerte, alta y numerosa, como los hijos de Anac, a los cuales el Señor destruyó delante de los amonitas. Éstos sucedieron a aquéllos, y habitaron en su lugar,

a people great, and numerous, and tall, as the Anakim, and Jehovah destroyeth them before them, and they dispossess them, and dwell in their stead,

22 c omo hizo el Señor con los hijos de Esaú que habitaban en Seir, delante de los cuales destruyó a los horeos. Ellos sucedieron a éstos, y habitaron en su lugar hasta el día de hoy.

as He hath done for the sons of Esau, who are dwelling in Seir, when He destroyed the Horim from before them, and they dispossess them, and dwell in their stead, unto this day.

23 L os aveos, que habitaban en aldeas hasta Gaza, fueron destruidos por los caftoreos, que vinieron de Caftor y habitaron en su lugar.)

`As to the Avim who are dwelling in Hazerim unto Azzah, the Caphtorim -- who are coming out from Caphtor -- have destroyed them, and dwell in their stead.

24 ” ¡Vamos, levántense y pasen el arroyo de Arnón! Yo he puesto ya en tus manos a Sijón el amorreo, que es rey de Jesbón, y a su tierra. Comienza a tomar posesión de ella, y entra en combate contra él.

`Rise ye, journey and pass over the brook Arnon; see, I have given into thy hand Sihon king of Heshbon, the Amorite, and his land; begin to possess, and stir up thyself against him battle.

25 E ste día comenzaré a sembrar ante ti el temor y el espanto entre los pueblos bajo el cielo. Ellos oirán hablar de ti, y ante ti temblarán y se llenarán de angustia.” Israel derrota a Sijón

This day I begin to put thy dread and thy fear on the face of the peoples under the whole heavens, who hear thy fame, and have trembled and been pained because of thee.

26 » Desde el desierto de Cademot envié mensajeros a Sijón, rey de Jesbón, para que en son de paz le dijeran:

`And I send messengers from the wilderness of Kedemoth, unto Sihon king of Heshbon, -- words of peace -- saying,

27 “ Voy a pasar por tu tierra. Iré por el camino principal, sin apartarme ni a diestra ni a siniestra.

Let me pass over through thy land; in the several ways I go; I turn not aside -- right or left --

28 L a comida que yo coma, me la venderás a cambio de dinero, y también me venderás el agua que yo beba. Sólo pasaré a pie,

food for money thou dost sell me, and I have eaten; and water for money thou dost give to me, and I have drunk; only, let me pass over on my feet, --

29 c omo me permitieron hacer los hijos de Esaú que habitan en Seir, y los moabitas que habitan en Ar. Tenemos que cruzar el Jordán y llegar a la tierra que el Señor nuestro Dios nos va a dar.”

as the sons of Esau who are dwelling in Seir, and the Moabites who are dwelling in Ar, have done to me -- till that I pass over the Jordan, unto the land which Jehovah our God is giving to us.

30 » Pero Sijón, el rey de Jesbón, no nos dejó pasar por su territorio, y es que el Señor tu Dios había endurecido su espíritu, y cerrado su corazón, para entregarlo en tus manos, como hasta el día de hoy.

`And Sihon king of Heshbon hath not been willing to let us pass over by him, for Jehovah thy God hath hardened his spirit, and strengthened his heart, so as to give him into thy hand as at this day.

31 E ntonces el Señor me dijo: “Mira, ya he comenzado a entregarte a Sijón y a su tierra. Comienza ya a tomar posesión de ella, porque es tu herencia.”

`And Jehovah saith unto me, See, I have begun to give before thee Sihon and his land; begin to possess -- to possess his land.

32 Y Sijón salió a nuestro encuentro, junto con todo su ejército, para pelear en Yahás.

`And Sihon cometh out to meet us, he and all his people, to battle to Jahaz;

33 P ero el Señor nuestro Dios lo entregó en nuestras manos, y lo derrotamos a él y a sus hijos, y a todo su pueblo.

and Jehovah our God giveth him before us, and we smite him, and his sons, and all his people;

34 E ntonces nos apoderamos de todas sus ciudades, y las destruimos todas, y no dejamos con vida ni hombres, ni mujeres ni niños.

and we capture all his cities at that time, and devote the whole city, men, and the women, and the infants -- we have not left a remnant;

35 S olamente nos quedamos con los ganados y con los despojos de las ciudades que habíamos tomado.

only, the cattle we have spoiled for ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we have captured.

36 D esde Aroer, que está junto a la ribera del arroyo de Arnón, y la ciudad que está en el valle, hasta Galaad, no hubo ciudad que se librara de nosotros; todas ellas las entregó el Señor nuestro Dios en nuestro poder.

`From Aroer, which by the edge of the brook Arnon, and the city which by the brook, even unto Gilead there hath not been a city which too high for us; the whole hath Jehovah our God given before us.

37 A donde no llegamos fue a la tierra de los hijos de Amón, ni a todo lo que está a la orilla del arroyo de Jaboc, ni a las ciudades del monte, ni a ningún lugar que el Señor nuestro Dios nos había prohibido llegar.

`Only, unto the land of the sons of Ammon thou hast not drawn near, any part of the brook Jabbok, and cities of the hill-country, and anything which Jehovah our God hath commanded.
