1 D espués nos volvimos y partimos hacia el desierto por el camino del mar Rojo, como el Señor me había mandado, y por muchos días dimos vuelta al monte Seir.

`And we turn, and journey into the wilderness, the way of the Red Sea, as Jehovah hath spoken unto me, and we go round the mount of Seir many days.

2 Y el Señor me habló, diciendo:

`And Jehovah speaketh unto me, saying,

3 “ Bastantes vueltas habéis dado ya alrededor de este monte. Volveos ahora hacia el norte,

Enough to you -- is the going round of this mount; turn for yourselves northward.

4 y da orden al pueblo, diciendo: ‘Vais a pasar por el territorio de vuestros hermanos, los hijos de Esaú que habitan en Seir, y os tendrán miedo. Así que tened mucho cuidado;

`And the people command thou, saying, Ye are passing over into the border of your brethren, sons of Esau, who are dwelling in Seir, and they are afraid of you; and ye have been very watchful,

5 n o los provoquéis, porque nada de su tierra os daré, ni siquiera la huella de un pie, porque a Esaú he dado el monte Seir por posesión.

ye do not strive with them, for I do not give to you of their land even the treading of the sole of a foot; for a possession to Esau I have given mount Seir.

6 ‘ Les compraréis con dinero los alimentos para comer, y también con dinero compraréis de ellos agua para beber.

`Food ye buy from them with money, and have eaten; and also water ye buy from them with money, and have drunk,

7 ‘ Pues el Señor tu Dios te ha bendecido en todo lo que has hecho; El ha conocido tu peregrinar a través de este inmenso desierto. Por cuarenta años el Señor tu Dios ha estado contigo; nada te ha faltado.’” En camino de Cades a Zered

for Jehovah thy God hath blessed thee in all the work of thy hands; He hath known thy walking in this great wilderness these forty years; Jehovah thy God with thee; thou hast not lacked anything.

8 P asamos, pues, de largo a nuestros hermanos, los hijos de Esaú que habitan en Seir, lejos del camino de Arabá, lejos de Elat y de Ezión-geber. Y nos volvimos, y pasamos por el camino del desierto de Moab.

`And we pass by from our brethren, sons of Esau, who are dwelling in Seir, by the way of the plain, by Elath, and by Ezion-Gaber; and we turn, and pass over the way of the wilderness of Moab;

9 E ntonces el Señor me dijo: “No molestes a Moab, ni los provoques a la guerra, porque no te daré nada de su tierra por posesión, pues he dado Ar a los hijos de Lot por posesión.

and Jehovah saith unto me, Do not distress Moab, nor stir thyself up against them battle, for I do not give to thee of their land a possession; for to the sons of Lot I have given Ar a possession.'

10 ( Antes habitaron allí los emitas, un pueblo tan grande, numeroso y alto como los anaceos.

`The Emim formerly have dwelt in it, a people great, and numerous, and tall, as the Anakim;

11 C omo los anaceos, ellos también son considerados gigantes, pero los moabitas los llaman emitas.

Rephaim they are reckoned, they also, as the Anakim; and the Moabites call them Emim.

12 L os horeos habitaron antes en Seir, pero los hijos de Esaú los desalojaron y los destruyeron delante de ellos, y se establecieron en su lugar, tal como Israel hizo con la tierra que el Señor les dio en posesión.)

And in Seir have the Horim dwelt formerly; and the sons of Esau dispossess them, and destroy them from before them, and dwell in their stead, as Israel hath done to the land of his possession, which Jehovah hath given to them;

13 “ Levantaos ahora, y cruzad el torrente de Zered.” Y cruzamos el torrente de Zered.

now, rise ye, and pass over for yourselves the brook Zered; and we pass over the brook Zered.

14 Y el tiempo que nos llevó para venir de Cades-barnea, hasta que cruzamos el torrente de Zered, fue de treinta y ocho años; hasta que pereció toda la generación de los hombres de guerra de en medio del campamento, como el Señor les había jurado.

`And the days which we have walked from Kadesh-Barnea until that we have passed over the brook Zered, thirty and eight years, till the consumption of all the generation of the men of battle from the midst of the camp, as Jehovah hath sworn to them;

15 A demás, la mano del Señor fue contra ellos, para destruirlos de en medio del campamento, hasta que todos perecieron.

and also the hand of Jehovah hath been against them, to destroy them from the midst of the camp, till they are consumed.

16 Y aconteció que cuando todos los hombres de guerra habían ya perecido de entre el pueblo,

`And it cometh to pass, when all the men of battle have finished dying from the midst of the people,

17 e l Señor me habló, diciendo:

that Jehovah speaketh unto me, saying,

18 “ Tú cruzarás hoy por Ar la frontera de Moab.

Thou art passing over to-day the border of Moab, even Ar,

19 “ Y cuando llegues frente a los hijos de Amón, no los molestes ni los provoques, porque no te daré nada de la tierra de los hijos de Amón en posesión, pues se la he dado a los hijos de Lot por heredad.”

and thou hast come near over-against the sons of Ammon, thou dost not distress them, nor stir up thyself against them, for I do not give of the land of the sons of Ammon to thee a possession; for to the sons of Lot I have given it a possession.

20 ( Es también conocida como la tierra de los gigantes, porque antiguamente habitaban en ella gigantes, a los que los amonitas llaman zomzomeos,

`A land of Rephaim it is reckoned, even it; Rephaim dwelt in it formerly, and the Ammonites call them Zamzummim;

21 p ueblo grande, numeroso y alto como los anaceos, pero que el Señor destruyó delante de ellos. Y los amonitas los desalojaron y se establecieron en su lugar,

a people great, and numerous, and tall, as the Anakim, and Jehovah destroyeth them before them, and they dispossess them, and dwell in their stead,

22 t al como Dios hizo con los hijos de Esaú, que habitan en Seir, cuando destruyó a los horeos delante de ellos; y ellos los desalojaron, y se establecieron en su lugar hasta hoy.

as He hath done for the sons of Esau, who are dwelling in Seir, when He destroyed the Horim from before them, and they dispossess them, and dwell in their stead, unto this day.

23 Y a los aveos que habitaban en aldeas hasta Gaza, los caftoreos, que salieron de Caftor, los destruyeron y se establecieron en su lugar.)

`As to the Avim who are dwelling in Hazerim unto Azzah, the Caphtorim -- who are coming out from Caphtor -- have destroyed them, and dwell in their stead.

24 “ Levantaos; partid y pasad por el valle del Arnón. Mira, he entregado en tu mano a Sehón amorreo, rey de Hesbón, y a su tierra; comienza a tomar posesión y entra en batalla con él.

`Rise ye, journey and pass over the brook Arnon; see, I have given into thy hand Sihon king of Heshbon, the Amorite, and his land; begin to possess, and stir up thyself against him battle.

25 “ Hoy comenzaré a infundir el espanto y temor tuyo entre los pueblos debajo del cielo, quienes, al oír tu fama, temblarán y se angustiarán a causa de ti.” Conquista de Sehón

This day I begin to put thy dread and thy fear on the face of the peoples under the whole heavens, who hear thy fame, and have trembled and been pained because of thee.

26 E ntonces envié mensajeros desde el desierto de Cademot a Sehón, rey de Hesbón, con palabras de paz, diciendo:

`And I send messengers from the wilderness of Kedemoth, unto Sihon king of Heshbon, -- words of peace -- saying,

27 “ Déjame pasar por tu tierra; iré solamente por el camino, sin apartarme ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda.

Let me pass over through thy land; in the several ways I go; I turn not aside -- right or left --

28 “ Me venderás comestibles por dinero para que yo pueda comer, y me darás agua por dinero para que pueda beber; déjame tan sólo pasar a pie,

food for money thou dost sell me, and I have eaten; and water for money thou dost give to me, and I have drunk; only, let me pass over on my feet, --

29 t al como hicieron conmigo los hijos de Esaú que habitan en Seir, y los moabitas que habitan en Ar, hasta que cruce el Jordán a la tierra que el Señor nuestro Dios nos da.”

as the sons of Esau who are dwelling in Seir, and the Moabites who are dwelling in Ar, have done to me -- till that I pass over the Jordan, unto the land which Jehovah our God is giving to us.

30 P ero Sehón, rey de Hesbón, no quiso dejarnos pasar por su tierra porque el Señor tu Dios endureció su espíritu e hizo obstinado su corazón, a fin de entregarlo en tus manos, como lo está hoy.

`And Sihon king of Heshbon hath not been willing to let us pass over by him, for Jehovah thy God hath hardened his spirit, and strengthened his heart, so as to give him into thy hand as at this day.

31 Y el Señor me dijo: “Mira, he comenzado a entregar a Sehón y su tierra en tus manos. Comienza a ocupar la para que poseas la tierra.”

`And Jehovah saith unto me, See, I have begun to give before thee Sihon and his land; begin to possess -- to possess his land.

32 E ntonces Sehón salió con todo su pueblo a encontrarnos en batalla en Jahaza.

`And Sihon cometh out to meet us, he and all his people, to battle to Jahaz;

33 Y el Señor nuestro Dios lo entregó a nosotros; y lo derrotamos a él, a sus hijos y a todo su pueblo.

and Jehovah our God giveth him before us, and we smite him, and his sons, and all his people;

34 E n aquel tiempo tomamos todas sus ciudades, y exterminamos a hombres, mujeres y niños de cada ciudad. No dejamos ningún sobreviviente.

and we capture all his cities at that time, and devote the whole city, men, and the women, and the infants -- we have not left a remnant;

35 T omamos solamente como nuestro botín los animales y los despojos de las ciudades que habíamos capturado.

only, the cattle we have spoiled for ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we have captured.

36 D esde Aroer, que está a la orilla del valle del Arnón, y desde la ciudad que está en el valle, aun hasta Galaad, no hubo ciudad inaccesible para nosotros; el Señor nuestro Dios nos las entregó todas.

`From Aroer, which by the edge of the brook Arnon, and the city which by the brook, even unto Gilead there hath not been a city which too high for us; the whole hath Jehovah our God given before us.

37 S olamente no te acercaste a la tierra de los hijos de Amón, a todo lo largo del arroyo Jaboc, ni a las ciudades del monte, todo lo que el Señor nuestro Dios había prohibido.

`Only, unto the land of the sons of Ammon thou hast not drawn near, any part of the brook Jabbok, and cities of the hill-country, and anything which Jehovah our God hath commanded.
