1 P ero sucedió que cuando Jeremías terminó de hablar a todo el pueblo todas las palabras del Señor su Dios, es decir, todas estas palabras con las cuales el Señor su Dios le había enviado,

And it cometh to pass, when Jeremiah doth finish to speak unto all the people all the words of Jehovah their God, with which Jehovah their God hath sent him unto them -- all these words --

2 A zarías, hijo de Osaías, y Johanán, hijo de Carea, y todos los hombres arrogantes dijeron a Jeremías: Es mentira lo que dices. El Señor nuestro Dios no te ha enviado a decir: “No debéis entrar en Egipto para residir allí”;

that Azariah son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan son of Kareah, and all the proud men, speak unto Jeremiah, saying, `Falsehood thou art speaking; Jehovah our God hath not sent thee to say, Do not enter Egypt to sojourn there;

3 s ino que Baruc, hijo de Nerías, te incita contra nosotros para entregarnos en mano de los caldeos, a fin de que nos maten o nos deporten a Babilonia.

for Baruch son of Neriah is moving thee against us, in order to give us up into the hand of the Chaldeans, to put us to death, and to remove us to Babylon.'

4 N o obedeció, pues, Johanán, hijo de Carea, ni ninguno de los capitanes de las tropas, ni nadie del pueblo, la voz del Señor, de quedarse en la tierra de Judá,

And Johanan son of Kareah, and all the heads of the forces, and all the people, have not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah, to dwell in the land of Judah;

5 s ino que Johanán, hijo de Carea, y todos los capitanes de las tropas, tomaron a todo el remanente de Judá que había vuelto de todas las naciones a las cuales habían sido dispersados, para residir en la tierra de Judá,

and Johanan son of Kareah, and all the heads of the forces, take all the remnant of Judah who have turned from all the nations whither they were driven to sojourn in the land of Judah,

6 a hombres, mujeres y niños, a las hijas del rey y a toda persona que Nabuzaradán, capitán de la guardia, había dejado con Gedalías, hijo de Ahicam y nieto de Safán, y también al profeta Jeremías y a Baruc, hijo de Nerías,

the men, and the women, and the infant, and the daughters of the king, and every person that Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, had left with Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the prophet, and Baruch son of Neriah,

7 y entraron en la tierra de Egipto (pues no escucharon la voz del Señor ) y se adentraron hasta Tafnes.

and they enter the land of Egypt, for they have not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah, and they enter unto Tahpanhes.

8 E ntonces vino la palabra del Señor a Jeremías en Tafnes, diciendo:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying,

9 T oma en tus manos piedras grandes y escóndelas en la mezcla en la terraza de ladrillo que está a la entrada del palacio de Faraón en Tafnes, a vista de los judíos,

`Take in thy hand great stones, and thou hast hidden them, in the clay, in the brick-kiln, that at the opening of the house of Pharaoh in Tahpanhes, before the eyes of the men of Judah,

10 y diles: “Así dice el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: ‘He aquí, enviaré a traer a Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, siervo mío, y pondré su trono sobre estas piedras que he escondido, y él extenderá su pabellón sobre ellas.

and thou hast said unto them: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: `Lo, I am sending, and I have taken Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, My servant, and I have set his throne above these stones that I have hid, and he hath stretched out his pavilion over them,

11 ‘ Vendrá y herirá la tierra de Egipto; los que sean para la muerte, a la muerte, los que para el cautiverio, al cautiverio, y los que para la espada, a la espada.

and he hath come, and smitten the land of Egypt -- those who for death to death, and those who for captivity to captivity, and those who for the sword to the sword.

12 ‘ Y prenderá fuego a los templos de los dioses de Egipto, los quemará, y se llevará cautivos a sus ídolos. Y se envolverá de la tierra de Egipto como el pastor se envuelve con su capa, y saldrá de allí en paz.

And I have kindled a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt, and it hath burned them, and he hath taken them captive, and covered himself with the land of Egypt, as cover himself doth the shepherd with his garment, and he hath gone forth thence in peace;

13 ‘ También quebrará los obeliscos de Heliópolis, que está en la tierra de Egipto, y prenderá fuego a los templos de los dioses de Egipto.’”

and he hath broken the standing pillars of the house of the sun, that in the land of Egypt, and the houses of the gods of Egypt he doth burn with fire.'
