1 E n el principio existía el Verbo, y el Verbo estaba con Dios, y el Verbo era Dios.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God;

2 E l estaba en el principio con Dios.

this one was in the beginning with God;

3 T odas las cosas fueron hechas por medio de El, y sin El nada de lo que ha sido hecho, fue hecho.

all things through him did happen, and without him happened not even one thing that hath happened.

4 E n El estaba la vida, y la vida era la luz de los hombres.

In him was life, and the life was the light of men,

5 Y la luz brilla en las tinieblas, y las tinieblas no la comprendieron.

and the light in the darkness did shine, and the darkness did not perceive it.

6 V ino al mundo un hombre enviado por Dios, cuyo nombre era Juan.

There came a man -- having been sent from God -- whose name John,

7 E ste vino como testigo, para testificar de la luz, a fin de que todos creyeran por medio de él.

this one came for testimony, that he might testify about the Light, that all might believe through him;

8 N o era él la luz, sino que vino para dar testimonio de la luz.

that one was not the Light, but -- that he might testify about the Light.

9 E xistía la luz verdadera que, al venir al mundo, alumbra a todo hombre.

He was the true Light, which doth enlighten every man, coming to the world;

10 E n el mundo estaba, y el mundo fue hecho por medio de El, y el mundo no le conoció.

in the world he was, and the world through him was made, and the world did not know him:

11 A lo suyo vino, y los suyos no le recibieron.

to his own things he came, and his own people did not receive him;

12 P ero a todos los que le recibieron, les dio el derecho de llegar a ser hijos de Dios, es decir, a los que creen en su nombre,

but as many as did receive him to them he gave authority to become sons of God -- to those believing in his name,

13 q ue no nacieron de sangre, ni de la voluntad de la carne, ni de la voluntad del hombre, sino de Dios. El Verbo se hace carne

who -- not of blood nor of a will of flesh, nor of a will of man but -- of God were begotten.

14 Y el Verbo se hizo carne, y habitó entre nosotros, y vimos su gloria, gloria como del unigénito del Padre, lleno de gracia y de verdad.

And the Word became flesh, and did tabernacle among us, and we beheld his glory, glory as of an only begotten of a father, full of grace and truth.

15 J uan dio testimonio de El y clamó, diciendo: Este era del que yo decía: “El que viene después de mí, es antes de mí, porque era primero que yo.”

John doth testify concerning him, and hath cried, saying, `This was he of whom I said, He who after me is coming, hath come before me, for he was before me;'

16 P ues de su plenitud todos hemos recibido, y gracia sobre gracia.

and out of his fulness did we all receive, and grace over-against grace;

17 P orque la ley fue dada por medio de Moisés; la gracia y la verdad fueron hechas realidad por medio de Jesucristo.

for the law through Moses was given, the grace and the truth through Jesus Christ did come;

18 N adie ha visto jamás a Dios; el unigénito Dios, que está en el seno del Padre, El le ha dado a conocer. Testimonio de Juan el Bautista

God no one hath ever seen; the only begotten Son, who is on the bosom of the Father -- he did declare.

19 E ste es el testimonio de Juan, cuando los judíos enviaron sacerdotes y levitas de Jerusalén a preguntarle: ¿Quién eres tú?

And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent out of Jerusalem priests and Levites, that they might question him, `Who art thou?'

20 Y él confesó y no negó; confesó: Yo no soy el Cristo.

and he confessed and did not deny, and confessed -- `I am not the Christ.'

21 Y le preguntaron: ¿Entonces, qué? ¿Eres Elías ? Y él dijo: No soy. ¿Eres el profeta ? Y respondió: No.

And they questioned him, `What then? Elijah art thou?' and he saith, `I am not.' -- `The prophet art thou?' and he answered, `No.'

22 E ntonces le dijeron: ¿Quién eres?, para que podamos dar respuesta a los que nos enviaron. ¿Qué dices de ti mismo?

They said then to him, `Who art thou, that we may give an answer to those sending us? what dost thou say concerning thyself?'

23 E l dijo: Yo soy la voz del que clama en el desierto: “Enderezad el camino del Señor ”, como dijo el profeta Isaías.

He said, `I a voice of one crying in the wilderness: Make straight the way of the Lord, as said Isaiah the prophet.'

24 L os que habían sido enviados eran de los fariseos.

And those sent were of the Pharisees,

25 Y le preguntaron, y le dijeron: Entonces, ¿por qué bautizas, si tú no eres el Cristo, ni Elías, ni el profeta ?

and they questioned him and said to him, `Why, then, dost thou baptize, if thou art not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?'

26 J uan les respondió, diciendo: Yo bautizo en agua, pero entre vosotros está Uno a quien no conocéis.

John answered them, saying, `I baptize with water, but in midst of you he hath stood whom ye have not known, this one it is who is coming after me, who hath been before me,

27 E l es el que viene después de mí, a quien yo no soy digno de desatar la correa de su sandalia.

of whom I am not worthy that I may loose the cord of his sandal.'

28 E stas cosas sucedieron en Betania, al otro lado del Jordán, donde Juan estaba bautizando. El Cordero de Dios

These things came to pass in Bethabara, beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing,

29 A l día siguiente vio a Jesús que venía hacia él, y dijo: He ahí el Cordero de Dios que quita el pecado del mundo.

on the morrow John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, `Lo, the Lamb of God, who is taking away the sin of the world;

30 E ste es aquel de quien yo dije: “Después de mí viene un hombre que es antes de mí porque era primero que yo.”

this is he concerning whom I said, After me doth come a man, who hath come before me, because he was before me:

31 Y yo no le conocía, pero para que El fuera manifestado a Israel, por esto yo vine bautizando en agua.

and I knew him not, but, that he might be manifested to Israel, because of this I came with the water baptizing.

32 J uan dio también testimonio, diciendo: He visto al Espíritu que descendía del cielo como paloma, y se posó sobre El.

And John testified, saying -- `I have seen the Spirit coming down, as a dove, out of heaven, and it remained on him;

33 Y yo no le conocía, pero el que me envió a bautizar en agua me dijo: “Aquel sobre quien veas al Espíritu descender y posarse sobre El, éste es el que bautiza en el Espíritu Santo.”

and I did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water, He said to me, On whomsoever thou mayst see the Spirit coming down, and remaining on him, this is he who is baptizing with the Holy Spirit;

34 Y yo le he visto y he dado testimonio de que éste es el Hijo de Dios. Los primeros discípulos

and I have seen, and have testified, that this is the Son of God.'

35 A l día siguiente Juan estaba otra vez allí con dos de sus discípulos,

On the morrow, again, John was standing, and two of his disciples,

36 y vio a Jesús que pasaba, y dijo: He ahí el Cordero de Dios.

and having looked on Jesus walking, he saith, `Lo, the Lamb of God;'

37 Y los dos discípulos le oyeron hablar, y siguieron a Jesús.

and the two disciples heard him speaking, and they followed Jesus.

38 J esús se volvió, y viendo que le seguían, les dijo: ¿Qué buscáis? Y ellos le dijeron: Rabí (que traducido quiere decir, Maestro), ¿dónde te hospedas?

And Jesus having turned, and having beheld them following, saith to them, `What seek ye?' and they said to them, `Rabbi, (which is, being interpreted, Teacher,) where remainest thou?'

39 E l les dijo: Venid y veréis. Entonces fueron y vieron dónde se hospedaba; y se quedaron con El aquel día, porque era como la hora décima.

He saith to them, `Come and see;' they came, and saw where he doth remain, and with him they remained that day and the hour was about the tenth.

40 U no de los dos que oyeron a Juan y siguieron a Jesús era Andrés, hermano de Simón Pedro.

Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who heard from John, and followed him;

41 E l encontró primero a su hermano Simón, y le dijo: Hemos hallado al Mesías (que traducido quiere decir, Cristo ).

this one doth first find his own brother Simon, and saith to him, `We have found the Messiah,' (which is, being interpreted, The Anointed,)

42 E ntonces lo trajo a Jesús. Jesús mirándolo, dijo: Tú eres Simón, hijo de Juan; tú serás llamado Cefas (que quiere decir: Pedro ). Felipe y Natanael

and he brought him unto Jesus: and having looked upon him, Jesus saith, `Thou art Simon, the son of Jonas, thou shalt be called Cephas,' (which is interpreted, A rock.)

43 A l día siguiente Jesús se propuso salir para Galilea, y encontró a Felipe, y le dijo: Sígueme.

On the morrow, he willed to go forth to Galilee, and he findeth Philip, and saith to him, `Be following me.'

44 F elipe era de Betsaida, de la ciudad de Andrés y de Pedro.

And Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter;

45 F elipe encontró a Natanael y le dijo: Hemos hallado a aquel de quien escribió Moisés en la ley, y también los profetas, a Jesús de Nazaret, el hijo de José.

Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith to him, `Him of whom Moses wrote in the Law, and the prophets, we have found, Jesus the son of Joseph, who from Nazareth;'

46 Y Natanael le dijo: ¿Puede algo bueno salir de Nazaret ? Felipe le dijo: Ven, y ve.

and Nathanael said to him, `Out of Nazareth is any good thing able to be?' Philip said to him, `Come and see.'

47 J esús vio venir a Natanael y dijo de él: He aquí un verdadero israelita en quien no hay engaño.

Jesus saw Nathanael coming unto him, and he saith concerning him, `Lo, truly an Israelite, in whom guile is not;'

48 N atanael le dijo: ¿Cómo es que me conoces? Jesús le respondió y le dijo: Antes de que Felipe te llamara, cuando estabas debajo de la higuera, te vi.

Nathanael saith to him, `Whence me dost thou know?' Jesus answered and said to him, `Before Philip's calling thee -- thou being under the fig-tree -- I saw thee.'

49 N atanael le respondió: Rabí, tú eres el Hijo de Dios, tú eres el Rey de Israel.

Nathanael answered and saith to him, `Rabbi, thou art the Son of God, thou art the king of Israel.'

50 R espondió Jesús y le dijo: ¿Porque te dije que te vi debajo de la higuera, crees? Cosas mayores que éstas verás.

Jesus answered and said to him, `Because I said to thee, I saw thee under the fig-tree, thou dost believe; greater things than these thou shalt see;'

51 Y le dijo: En verdad, en verdad os digo que veréis el cielo abierto y a los ángeles de Dios subiendo y bajando sobre el Hijo del Hombre.

and he saith to him, `Verily, verily, I say to you, henceforth ye shall see the heaven opened, and the messengers of God going up and coming down upon the Son of Man.'
