1 Y o soy la vid verdadera, y mi Padre es el viñador.

`I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman;

2 T odo sarmiento que en mí no da fruto, lo quita; y todo el que da fruto, lo poda para que dé más fruto.

every branch in me not bearing fruit, He doth take it away, and every one bearing fruit, He doth cleanse by pruning it, that it may bear more fruit;

3 V osotros ya estáis limpios por la palabra que os he hablado.

already ye are clean, because of the word that I have spoken to you;

4 P ermaneced en mí, y yo en vosotros. Como el sarmiento no puede dar fruto por sí mismo si no permanece en la vid, así tampoco vosotros si no permanecéis en mí.

remain in me, and I in you, as the branch is not able to bear fruit of itself, if it may not remain in the vine, so neither ye, if ye may not remain in me.

5 Y o soy la vid, vosotros los sarmientos; el que permanece en mí y yo en él, ése da mucho fruto, porque separados de mí nada podéis hacer.

`I am the vine, ye the branches; he who is remaining in me, and I in him, this one doth bear much fruit, because apart from me ye are not able to do anything;

6 S i alguno no permanece en mí, es echado fuera como un sarmiento y se seca; y los recogen, los echan al fuego y se queman.

if any one may not remain in me, he was cast forth without as the branch, and was withered, and they gather them, and cast to fire, and they are burned;

7 S i permanecéis en mí, y mis palabras permanecen en vosotros, pedid lo que queráis y os será hecho.

if ye may remain in me, and my sayings in you may remain, whatever ye may wish ye shall ask, and it shall be done to you.

8 E n esto es glorificado mi Padre, en que deis mucho fruto, y así probéis que sois mis discípulos.

`In this was my Father glorified, that ye may bear much fruit, and ye shall become my disciples.

9 C omo el Padre me ha amado, así también yo os he amado; permaneced en mi amor.

According as the Father did love me, I also loved you, remain in my love;

10 S i guardáis mis mandamientos, permaneceréis en mi amor, así como yo he guardado los mandamientos de mi Padre y permanezco en su amor.

if my commandments ye may keep, ye shall remain in my love, according as I the commands of my Father have kept, and do remain in His love;

11 E stas cosas os he hablado, para que mi gozo esté en vosotros, y vuestro gozo sea perfecto.

these things I have spoken to you, that my joy in you may remain, and your joy may be full.

12 E ste es mi mandamiento: que os améis los unos a los otros, así como yo os he amado.

`This is my command, that ye love one another, according as I did love you;

13 N adie tiene un amor mayor que éste: que uno dé su vida por sus amigos.

greater love than this hath no one, that any one his life may lay down for his friends;

14 V osotros sois mis amigos si hacéis lo que yo os mando.

ye are my friends, if ye may do whatever I command you;

15 Y a no os llamo siervos, porque el siervo no sabe lo que hace su señor; pero os he llamado amigos, porque os he dado a conocer todo lo que he oído de mi Padre.

no more do I call you servants, because the servant hath not known what his lord doth, and you I have called friends, because all things that I heard from my Father, I did make known to you.

16 V osotros no me escogisteis a mí, sino que yo os escogí a vosotros, y os designé para que vayáis y deis fruto, y que vuestro fruto permanezca; para que todo lo que pidáis al Padre en mi nombre os lo conceda.

`Ye did not choose out me, but I chose out you, and did appoint you, that ye might go away, and might bear fruit, and your fruit might remain, that whatever ye may ask of the Father in my name, He may give you.

17 E sto os mando: que os améis los unos a los otros.

`These things I command you, that ye love one another;

18 S i el mundo os odia, sabéis que me ha odiado a mí antes que a vosotros.

if the world doth hate you, ye know that it hath hated me before you;

19 S i fuerais del mundo, el mundo amaría lo suyo; pero como no sois del mundo, sino que yo os escogí de entre el mundo, por eso el mundo os odia.

if of the world ye were, the world its own would have been loving, and because of the world ye are not -- but I chose out of the world -- because of this the world hateth you.

20 A cordaos de la palabra que yo os dije: “Un siervo no es mayor que su señor.” Si me persiguieron a mí, también os perseguirán a vosotros; si guardaron mi palabra, también guardarán la vuestra.

`Remember the word that I said to you, A servant is not greater than his lord; if me they did persecute, you also they will persecute; if my word they did keep, yours also they will keep;

21 P ero todo esto os harán por causa de mi nombre, porque no conocen al que me envió.

but all these things will they do to you, because of my name, because they have not known Him who sent me;

22 S i yo no hubiera venido y no les hubiera hablado, no tendrían pecado, pero ahora no tienen excusa por su pecado.

if I had not come and spoken to them, they were not having sin; but now pretext they have not for their sin.

23 E l que me odia a mí, odia también a mi Padre.

`He who is hating me, doth hate also my Father;

24 S i yo no hubiera hecho entre ellos las obras que ningún otro ha hecho, no tendrían pecado; pero ahora las han visto, y me han odiado a mí y también a mi Padre.

if I did not do among them the works that no other hath done, they were not having sin, and now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father;

25 P ero han hecho esto para que se cumpla la palabra que está escrita en su ley: “ Me odiaron sin causa.”

but -- that the word may be fulfilled that was written in their law -- They hated me without a cause.

26 C uando venga el Consolador, a quien yo enviaré del Padre, es decir, el Espíritu de verdad que procede del Padre, El dará testimonio de mí,

`And when the Comforter may come, whom I will send to you from the Father -- the Spirit of truth, who from the Father doth come forth, he will testify of me;

27 y vosotros daréis testimonio también, porque habéis estado conmigo desde el principio.

and ye also do testify, because from the beginning ye are with me.
