1 P ero Jesús se fue al Monte de los Olivos.

And at dawn he came again to the temple,

2 Y al amanecer, vino otra vez al templo, y todo el pueblo venía a El; y sentándose, les enseñaba.

and all the people were coming unto him, and having sat down, he was teaching them;

3 L os escribas y los fariseos trajeron a una mujer sorprendida en adulterio, y poniéndola en medio,

and the scribes and the Pharisees bring unto him a woman having been taken in adultery, and having set her in the midst,

4 l e dijeron: Maestro, esta mujer ha sido sorprendida en el acto mismo del adulterio.

they say to him, `Teacher, this woman was taken in the very crime -- committing adultery,

5 Y en la ley, Moisés nos ordenó apedrear a esta clase de mujeres; ¿tú, pues, qué dices?

and in the law, Moses did command us that such be stoned; thou, therefore, what dost thou say?'

6 D ecían esto, probándole, para tener de qué acusarle. Pero Jesús se inclinó y con el dedo escribía en la tierra.

and this they said, trying him, that they might have to accuse him. And Jesus, having stooped down, with the finger he was writing on the ground,

7 P ero como insistían en preguntarle, Jesús se enderezó y les dijo: El que de vosotros esté sin pecado, sea el primero en tirarle una piedra.

and when they continued asking him, having bent himself back, he said unto them, `The sinless of you -- let him first cast the stone at her;'

8 E inclinándose de nuevo, escribía en la tierra.

and again having stooped down, he was writing on the ground,

9 P ero al oír ellos esto, se fueron retirando uno a uno comenzando por los de mayor edad, y dejaron solo a Jesús y a la mujer que estaba en medio.

and they having heard, and by the conscience being convicted, were going forth one by one, having begun from the elders -- unto the last; and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

10 E nderezándose Jesús, le dijo: Mujer, ¿dónde están ellos? ¿Ninguno te ha condenado?

And Jesus having bent himself back, and having seen no one but the woman, said to her, `Woman, where are those -- thine accusers? did no one pass sentence upon thee?'

11 Y ella respondió: Ninguno, Señor. Entonces Jesús le dijo: Yo tampoco te condeno. Vete; desde ahora no peques más. Jesús, la luz del mundo

and she said, `No one, Sir;' and Jesus said to her, `Neither do I pass sentence on thee; be going on, and no more sin.'

12 J esús les habló otra vez, diciendo: Yo soy la luz del mundo; el que me sigue no andará en tinieblas, sino que tendrá la luz de la vida.

Again, therefore, Jesus spake to them, saying, `I am the light of the world; he who is following me shall not walk in the darkness, but he shall have the light of the life.'

13 E ntonces los fariseos le dijeron: Tú das testimonio de ti mismo; tu testimonio no es verdadero.

The Pharisees, therefore, said to him, `Thou of thyself dost testify, thy testimony is not true;'

14 R espondió Jesús y les dijo: Aunque yo doy testimonio de mí mismo, mi testimonio es verdadero, porque yo sé de dónde he venido y adónde voy; pero vosotros no sabéis de dónde vengo ni adónde voy.

Jesus answered and said to them, `And if I testify of myself -- my testimony is true, because I have known whence I came, and whither I go, and ye -- ye have not known whence I come, or whither I go.

15 V osotros juzgáis según la carne; yo no juzgo a nadie.

`Ye according to the flesh do judge; I do not judge any one,

16 P ero si yo juzgo, mi juicio es verdadero; porque no soy yo solo, sino yo y el Padre que me envió.

and even if I do judge my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who sent me;

17 A un en vuestra ley está escrito que el testimonio de dos hombres es verdadero.

and also in your law it hath been written, that the testimony of two men are true;

18 Y o soy el que doy testimonio de mí mismo, y el Padre que me envió da testimonio de mí.

I am who is testifying of myself, and the Father who sent me doth testify of me.'

19 E ntonces le decían: ¿Dónde está tu Padre? Jesús respondió: No me conocéis a mí ni a mi Padre. Si me conocierais a mí, conoceríais también a mi Padre.

They said, therefore, to him, `Where is thy father?' Jesus answered, `Ye have neither known me nor my Father: if me ye had known, my Father also ye had known.'

20 E stas palabras las pronunció en el lugar del tesoro, cuando enseñaba en el templo; y nadie le prendió, porque todavía no había llegado su hora. Advertencias a los incrédulos

These sayings spake Jesus in the treasury, teaching in the temple, and no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come;

21 E ntonces les dijo de nuevo: Yo me voy, y me buscaréis, y moriréis en vuestro pecado; adonde yo voy, vosotros no podéis ir.

therefore said Jesus again to them, `I go away, and ye will seek me, and in your sin ye shall die; whither I go away, ye are not able to come.'

22 P or eso los judíos decían: ¿Acaso se va a suicidar, puesto que dice: “Adonde yo voy, vosotros no podéis ir ”?

The Jews, therefore, said, `Will he kill himself, because he saith, Whither I go away, ye are not able to come?'

23 Y Jesús les decía: Vosotros sois de abajo, yo soy de arriba; vosotros sois de este mundo, yo no soy de este mundo.

and he said to them, `Ye are from beneath, I am from above; ye are of this world, I am not of this world;

24 P or eso os dije que moriréis en vuestros pecados; porque si no creéis que yo soy, moriréis en vuestros pecados.

I said, therefore, to you, that ye shall die in your sins, for if ye may not believe that I am, ye shall die in your sins.'

25 E ntonces le decían: ¿Tú quién eres? Jesús les dijo: ¿Qué os he estado diciendo desde el principio ?

They said, therefore, to him, `Thou -- who art thou?' and Jesus said to them, `Even what I did speak of to you at the beginning;

26 T engo mucho que decir y juzgar de vosotros, pero el que me envió es veraz; y yo, las cosas que oí de El, éstas digo al mundo.

many things I have to speak concerning you and to judge, but He who sent me is true, and I -- what things I heard from Him -- these I say to the world.'

27 N o comprendieron que les hablaba del Padre.

They knew not that of the Father he spake to them;

28 P or eso Jesús dijo: Cuando levantéis al Hijo del Hombre, entonces sabréis que yo soy y que no hago nada por mi cuenta, sino que hablo estas cosas como el Padre me enseñó.

Jesus, therefore, said to them, `When ye may lift up the Son of Man then ye will know that I am; and of myself I do nothing, but according as my Father did teach me, these things I speak;

29 Y El que me envió está conmigo; no me ha dejado solo, porque yo siempre hago lo que le agrada.

and He who sent me is with me; the Father did not leave me alone, because I, the things pleasing to Him, do always.'

30 A l hablar estas cosas, muchos creyeron en El. Los verdaderos hijos de Abraham

As he is speaking these things, many believed in him;

31 E ntonces Jesús decía a los judíos que habían creído en El: Si vosotros permanecéis en mi palabra, verdaderamente sois mis discípulos;

Jesus, therefore, said unto the Jews who believed in him, `If ye may remain in my word, truly my disciples ye are, and ye shall know the truth,

32 y conoceréis la verdad, y la verdad os hará libres.

and the truth shall make you free.'

33 E llos le contestaron: Somos descendientes de Abraham y nunca hemos sido esclavos de nadie. ¿Cómo dices tú: “Seréis libres” ?

They answered him, `Seed of Abraham we are; and to no one have we been servants at any time; how dost thou say -- Ye shall become free?'

34 J esús les respondió: En verdad, en verdad os digo que todo el que comete pecado es esclavo del pecado;

Jesus answered them, `Verily, verily, I say to you -- Every one who is committing sin, is a servant of the sin,

35 y el esclavo no queda en la casa para siempre; el hijo sí permanece para siempre.

and the servant doth not remain in the house -- to the age, the son doth remain -- to the age;

36 A sí que, si el Hijo os hace libres, seréis realmente libres.

if then the son may make you free, in reality ye shall be free.

37 S é que sois descendientes de Abraham; y sin embargo, procuráis matarme porque mi palabra no tiene cabida en vosotros.

`I have known that ye are seed of Abraham, but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you;

38 Y o hablo lo que he visto con mi Padre; vosotros, entonces, hacéis también lo que oísteis de vuestro padre.

I -- that which I have seen with my Father do speak, and ye, therefore, that which ye have seen with your father -- ye do.'

39 E llos le contestaron, y le dijeron: Abraham es nuestro padre. Jesús les dijo: Si sois hijos de Abraham, haced las obras de Abraham.

They answered and said to him, `Our father is Abraham;' Jesus saith to them, `If children of Abraham ye were, the works of Abraham ye were doing;

40 P ero ahora procuráis matarme, a mí que os he dicho la verdad que oí de Dios. Esto no lo hizo Abraham.

and now, ye seek to kill me -- a man who hath spoken to you the truth I heard from God; this Abraham did not;

41 V osotros hacéis las obras de vuestro padre. Ellos le dijeron: Nosotros no nacimos de fornicación; tenemos un Padre, es decir, Dios.

ye do the works of your father.' They said, therefore, to him, `We of whoredom have not been born; one Father we have -- God;'

42 J esús les dijo: Si Dios fuera vuestro Padre, me amaríais, porque yo salí de Dios y vine de El, pues no he venido por mi propia iniciativa, sino que El me envió.

Jesus then said to them, `If God were your father, ye were loving me, for I came forth from God, and am come; for neither have I come of myself, but He sent me;

43 ¿ Por qué no entendéis lo que digo ? Porque no podéis oír mi palabra.

wherefore do ye not know my speech? because ye are not able to hear my word.

44 S ois de vuestro padre el diablo y queréis hacer los deseos de vuestro padre. El fue un homicida desde el principio, y no se ha mantenido en la verdad porque no hay verdad en él. Cuando habla mentira, habla de su propia naturaleza, porque es mentiroso y el padre de la mentira.

`Ye are of a father -- the devil, and the desires of your father ye will to do; he was a man-slayer from the beginning, and in the truth he hath not stood, because there is no truth in him; when one may speak the falsehood, of his own he speaketh, because he is a liar -- also his father.

45 P ero porque yo digo la verdad, no me creéis.

`And because I say the truth, ye do not believe me.

46 ¿ Quién de vosotros me prueba que tengo pecado? Y si digo verdad, ¿por qué vosotros no me creéis?

Who of you doth convict me of sin? and if I speak truth, wherefore do ye not believe me?

47 E l que es de Dios escucha las palabras de Dios; por eso vosotros no escucháis, porque no sois de Dios. Jesús, anterior a Abraham

he who is of God, the sayings of God he doth hear; because of this ye do not hear, because of God ye are not.'

48 C ontestaron los judíos, y le dijeron: ¿No decimos con razón que tú eres samaritano y que tienes un demonio ?

The Jews, therefore, answered and said to him, `Do we not say well, that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a demon?'

49 J esús respondió: Yo no tengo ningún demonio, sino que honro a mi Padre, y vosotros me deshonráis a mí.

Jesus answered, `I have not a demon, but I honour my Father, and ye dishonour me;

50 P ero yo no busco mi gloria; hay Uno que la busca, y juzga.

and I do not seek my own glory; there is who is seeking and is judging;

51 E n verdad, en verdad os digo que si alguno guarda mi palabra, no verá jamás la muerte.

verily, verily, I say to you, If any one may keep my word, death he may not see -- to the age.'

52 L os judíos le dijeron: Ahora sí sabemos que tienes un demonio. Abraham murió, y también los profetas, y tú dices: “Si alguno guarda mi palabra no probará jamás la muerte.”

The Jews, therefore, said to him, `Now we have known that thou hast a demon; Abraham did die, and the prophets, and thou dost say, If any one may keep my word, he shall not taste of death -- to the age!

53 ¿ Eres tú acaso mayor que nuestro padre Abraham que murió? Los profetas también murieron; ¿quién crees que eres?

Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who died? and the prophets died; whom dost thou make thyself?'

54 J esús respondió: Si yo mismo me glorifico, mi gloria no es nada; es mi Padre el que me glorifica, de quien vosotros decís: “El es nuestro Dios.”

Jesus answered, `If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing; it is my Father who is glorifying me, of whom ye say that He is your God;

55 Y vosotros no le habéis conocido, pero yo le conozco; y si digo que no le conozco seré un mentiroso como vosotros; pero sí le conozco y guardo su palabra.

and ye have not known Him, and I have known Him, and if I say that I have not known Him, I shall be like you -- speaking falsely; but I have known Him, and His word I keep;

56 V uestro padre Abraham se regocijó esperando ver mi día; y lo vio y se alegró.

Abraham, your father, was glad that he might see my day; and he saw, and did rejoice.'

57 P or esto los judíos le dijeron: Aún no tienes cincuenta años, ¿y has visto a Abraham?

The Jews, therefore, said unto him, `Thou art not yet fifty years old, and Abraham hast thou seen?'

58 J esús les dijo: En verdad, en verdad os digo: antes que Abraham naciera, yo soy.

Jesus said to them, `Verily, verily, I say to you, Before Abraham's coming -- I am;'

59 E ntonces tomaron piedras para tirárselas, pero Jesús se ocultó y salió del templo.

they took up, therefore, stones that they may cast at him, but Jesus hid himself, and went forth out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
