1 Y estas son las naciones que el Señor dejó para probar con ellas a Israel, es decir, a los que no habían experimentado ninguna de las guerras de Canaán

And these the nations which Jehovah left, to try Israel by them, all who have not known all the wars of Canaan;

2 ( esto fue sólo para que las generaciones de los hijos de Israel conocieran la guerra, aquellos que antes no la habían experimentado ):

(only for the sake of the generations of the sons of Israel's knowing, to teach them war, only those who formerly have not known them) --

3 l os cinco príncipes de los filisteos, todos los cananeos, los sidonios y los heveos que habitaban en el monte Líbano, desde el monte de Baal-hermón hasta Lebo-hamat.

five princes of the Philistines, and all the Canaanite, and the Zidonian, and the Hivite inhabiting mount Lebanon, from mount Baal-Hermon unto the entering in of Hamath;

4 Y eran para probar a Israel, para ver si obedecían los mandamientos que el Señor había ordenado a sus padres por medio de Moisés.

and they are to prove Israel by them, to know whether they obey the commands of Jehovah that He commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

5 Y los hijos de Israel habitaron entre los cananeos, los hititas, los amorreos, los ferezeos, los heveos y los jebuseos;

And the sons of Israel have dwelt in the midst of the Canaanite, the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite,

6 t omaron para sí a sus hijas por mujeres, y dieron sus propias hijas a los hijos de ellos, y sirvieron a sus dioses. Otoniel libra a Israel de Cusán-risataim

and take their daughters to them for wives, and their daughters have given to their sons, and they serve their gods;

7 Y los hijos de Israel hicieron lo malo ante los ojos del Señor, y olvidaron al Señor su Dios, y sirvieron a los baales y a las imágenes de Asera.

and the sons of Israel do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and forget Jehovah their God, and serve the Baalim and the shrines.

8 E ntonces se encendió la ira del Señor contra Israel, y los vendió en manos de Cusán-risataim, rey de Mesopotamia; y los hijos de Israel sirvieron a Cusán-risataim por ocho años.

And the anger of Jehovah burneth against Israel, and He selleth them into the hand of Chushan-Rishathaim king of Aram-Naharaim, and the sons of Israel serve Chushan-Rishathaim eight years;

9 C uando los hijos de Israel clamaron al Señor, el Señor levantó un libertador a los hijos de Israel para que los librara, a Otoniel, hijo de Cenaz, hermano menor de Caleb.

and the sons of Israel cry unto Jehovah, and Jehovah raiseth a saviour to the sons of Israel, and he saveth them -- Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother;

10 Y vino sobre él el Espíritu del Señor, y juzgó a Israel. Cuando salió a la guerra, el Señor entregó en su mano a Cusán-risataim, rey de Mesopotamia, y su poder prevaleció sobre Cusán-risataim.

and the Spirit of Jehovah is upon him, and he judgeth Israel, and goeth out to battle, and Jehovah giveth unto his hand Chushan-Rishathaim king of Aram, and strong is his hand against Chushan-Rishathaim;

11 Y la tierra tuvo descanso por cuarenta años. Y murió Otoniel, hijo de Quenaz. Aod libra a Israel de Moab

and the land resteth forty years. And Othniel son of Kenaz dieth,

12 V olvieron los hijos de Israel a hacer lo malo ante los ojos del Señor. Entonces el Señor fortaleció a Eglón, rey de Moab, contra Israel, porque habían hecho lo malo ante los ojos del Señor.

and the sons of Israel add to do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah; and Jehovah strengtheneth Eglon king of Moab against Israel, because that they have done the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah;

13 Y Eglón reunió consigo a los hijos de Amón y de Amalec; y fue y derrotó a Israel, y se apoderaron de la ciudad de las palmeras.

and he gathereth unto him the Bene-Ammon and Amalek, and goeth and smiteth Israel, and they possess the city of palms;

14 Y los hijos de Israel sirvieron a Eglón, rey de Moab, por dieciocho años.

and the sons of Israel serve Eglon king of Moab eighteen years.

15 P ero los hijos de Israel clamaron al Señor, y el Señor les levantó un libertador, a Aod, hijo de Gera, benjamita, el cual era zurdo. Y los hijos de Israel enviaron tributo con él a Eglón, rey de Moab.

And the sons of Israel cry unto Jehovah, and Jehovah raiseth to them a saviour, Ehud son of Gera, a Benjamite (a man -- shut of his right hand), and the sons of Israel send by his hand a present to Eglon king of Moab;

16 A od se hizo una espada de dos filos, de un codo de largo, y la ató a su muslo derecho debajo de la ropa.

and Ehud maketh for himself a sword, and it hath two mouths (a cubit its length), and he girdeth it under his long robe on his right thigh;

17 Y presentó el tributo a Eglón, rey de Moab; y Eglón era un hombre muy grueso.

and he bringeth near the present to Eglon king of Moab, and Eglon a very fat man.

18 Y aconteció que cuando terminó de presentar el tributo, despidió a la gente que había traído el tributo.

And it cometh to pass, when he hath finished to bring near the present, that he sendeth away the people bearing the present,

19 P ero él se volvió desde los ídolos que estaban en Gilgal, y dijo: Tengo un mensaje secreto para ti, oh rey. Y éste dijo: Guarda silencio. Y todos los que le servían salieron.

and he himself hath turned back from the graven images which at Gilgal, and saith, `A secret word I have unto thee, O king;' and he saith, `Hush!' and go out from him do all those standing by him.

20 A od vino a él cuando estaba sentado solo en su sala de verano. Y Aod dijo: Tengo un mensaje de Dios para ti. Y él se levantó de su silla.

And Ehud hath come unto him, and he is sitting in the upper chamber of the wall which he hath for himself, and Ehud saith, `A word of God I have unto thee;' and he riseth from off the throne;

21 A od alargó la mano izquierda, tomó la espada de su muslo derecho, y se la hundió en el vientre.

and Ehud putteth forth his left hand, and taketh the sword from off his right thigh, and striketh it into his belly;

22 Y la empuñadura entró también tras la hoja, y la gordura se cerró sobre la hoja, pues no sacó la espada de su vientre; y se le salieron los excrementos.

and the haft also goeth in after the blade, and the fat shutteth on the blade, that he hath not drawn the sword out of his belly, and it goeth out at the fundament.

23 E ntonces salió Aod al corredor, cerró tras sí las puertas de la sala de la terraza y les pasó el cerrojo.

And Ehud goeth out at the porch, and shutteth the doors of the upper chamber upon him, and hath bolted;

24 D espués de haber salido, vinieron los siervos y miraron, y he aquí, las puertas de la sala de la terraza tenían pasado el cerrojo, y dijeron: Sin duda está haciendo su necesidad en la sala de verano.

and he hath gone out, and his servants have come in, and look, and lo, the doors of the upper chamber are bolted, and they say, `He is only covering his feet in the inner chamber of the wall.'

25 Y esperaron hasta sentir inquietud, pues he aquí que él no abría las puertas de la sala de la terraza. Entonces tomaron la llave y las abrieron, y he aquí, su señor caído en el suelo, muerto.

And they stay till confounded, and lo, he is not opening the doors of the upper chamber, and they take the key, and open, and lo, their lord is fallen to the earth -- dead.

26 M as Aod había escapado mientras ellos esperaban; pasando por los ídolos, había escapado a Seirat.

And Ehud escaped during their tarrying, and hath passed by the images, and is escaped to Seirath.

27 Y cuando llegó, tocó la trompeta en la región montañosa de Efraín; y los hijos de Israel descendieron con él de la región montañosa, estando él al frente de ellos.

And it cometh to pass, in his coming in, that he bloweth with a trumpet in the hill-country of Ephraim, and go down with him do the sons of Israel from the hill-country, and he before them;

28 Y les dijo: Perseguid los, porque el Señor ha entregado en vuestras manos a vuestros enemigos, los moabitas. Y descendieron tras él y se apoderaron de los vados del Jordán frente a Moab, y no dejaron pasar a nadie.

and he saith unto them, `Pursue after me, for Jehovah hath given your enemies, the Moabites, into your hand;' and they go down after him, and capture the passages of the Jordan towards Moab, and have not permitted a man to pass over.

29 E n aquella ocasión mataron a unos diez mil moabitas, todos hombres robustos y valientes; ninguno escapó.

And they smite Moab at that time, about ten thousand men, all robust, and every one a man of valour, and not a man hath escaped,

30 Y fue subyugado Moab aquel día bajo la mano de Israel. Y la tierra tuvo descanso por ochenta años. Samgar libra a Israel de los filisteos

and Moab is humbled in that day under the hand of Israel; and the land resteth eighty years.

31 D espués de Aod vino Samgar, hijo de Anat, el cual hirió a seiscientos filisteos con una aguijada de bueyes; y él también salvó a Israel.

And after him hath been Shamgar son of Anath, and he smiteth the Philistines -- six hundred men -- with an ox-goad, and he saveth -- he also -- Israel.
