1 Y yo mismo, Pablo, os ruego por la mansedumbre y la benignidad de Cristo, yo, que soy humilde cuando estoy delante de vosotros, pero osado para con vosotros cuando estoy ausente,

And I, Paul, myself, do call upon you -- through the meekness and gentleness of the Christ -- who in presence, indeed humble among you, and being absent, have courage toward you,

2 r uego, pues, que cuando esté presente, no tenga que ser osado con la confianza con que me propongo proceder resueltamente contra algunos que nos consideran como si anduviéramos según la carne.

and I beseech, that, being present, I may not have courage, with the confidence with which I reckon to be bold against certain reckoning us as walking according to the flesh;

3 P ues aunque andamos en la carne, no luchamos según la carne;

for walking in the flesh, not according to the flesh do we war,

4 p orque las armas de nuestra contienda no son carnales, sino poderosas en Dios para la destrucción de fortalezas;

for the weapons of our warfare not fleshly, but powerful to God for bringing down of strongholds,

5 d estruyendo especulaciones y todo razonamiento altivo que se levanta contra el conocimiento de Dios, y poniendo todo pensamiento en cautiverio a la obediencia de Cristo,

reasonings bringing down, and every high thing lifted up against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of the Christ,

6 y estando preparados para castigar toda desobediencia cuando vuestra obediencia sea completa.

and being in readiness to avenge every disobedience, whenever your obedience may be fulfilled.

7 V osotros veis las cosas según la apariencia exterior. Si alguno tiene confianza en sí mismo de que es de Cristo, considere esto dentro de sí otra vez: que así como él es de Cristo, también lo somos nosotros.

The things in presence do ye see? if any one hath trusted in himself to be Christ's, this let him reckon again from himself, that according as he is Christ's, so also we Christ's;

8 P ues aunque yo me gloríe más todavía respecto de nuestra autoridad, que el Señor nos dio para edificación y no para vuestra destrucción, no me avergonzaré,

for even if also anything more abundantly I shall boast concerning our authority, that the Lord gave us for building up, and not for casting you down, I shall not be ashamed;

9 p ara que no parezca como que deseo asustaros con mis cartas.

that I may not seem as if I would terrify you through the letters,

10 P orque ellos dicen: Las cartas son severas y duras, pero la presencia física es poco impresionante, y la manera de hablar menospreciable.

`because the letters indeed -- saith one -- weighty and strong, and the bodily presence weak, and the speech despicable.'

11 E sto tenga en cuenta tal persona: que lo que somos en palabra por carta, estando ausentes, lo somos también en hechos, estando presentes.

This one -- let him reckon thus: that such as we are in word, through letters, being absent, such also, being present, in deed.

12 P orque no nos atrevemos a contarnos ni a compararnos con algunos que se alaban a sí mismos; pero ellos, midiéndose a sí mismos y comparándose consigo mismos, carecen de entendimiento.

For we do not make bold to rank or to compare ourselves with certain of those commending themselves, but they, among themselves measuring themselves, and comparing themselves with themselves, are not wise,

13 M as nosotros no nos gloriaremos desmedidamente, sino dentro de la medida de la esfera que Dios nos señaló como límite para llegar también hasta vosotros.

and we in regard to the unmeasured things will not boast ourselves, but after the measure of the line that the God of measure did appoint to us -- to reach even unto you;

14 P ues no nos excedemos a nosotros mismos, como si no os hubiéramos alcanzado, ya que nosotros fuimos los primeros en llegar hasta vosotros con el evangelio de Cristo;

for not as not reaching to you do we stretch ourselves overmuch, for even unto you did we come in the good news of the Christ,

15 n o gloriándonos desmedidamente, esto es, en los trabajos de otros, sino teniendo la esperanza de que conforme vuestra fe crezca, nosotros seremos, dentro de nuestra esfera, engrandecidos aún más por vosotros,

not boasting of the things not measured, in other men's labours, and having hope -- your faith increasing -- in you to be enlarged, according to our line -- into abundance,

16 p ara anunciar el evangelio aun a las regiones que están más allá de vosotros, y para no gloriarnos en lo que ya se ha hecho en la esfera de otro.

in the beyond you to proclaim good news, not in another's line in regard to the things made ready, to boast;

17 P ero el que se gloria, que se glorie en el Señor.

and he who is boasting -- in the Lord let him boast;

18 P orque no es aprobado el que se alaba a sí mismo, sino aquel a quien el Señor alaba.

for not he who is commending himself is approved, but he whom the Lord doth commend.
