1 D espués de estas cosas, en el reinado de Artajerjes, rey de Persia, subió Esdras hijo de Seraías, hijo de Azarías, hijo de Hilcías,

And after these things, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra son of Seraiah, son of Azariah, son of Hilkiah,

2 h ijo de Salum, hijo de Sadoc, hijo de Ahitob,

son of Shallum, son of Zadok, son of Ahitub,

3 h ijo de Amarías, hijo de Azarías, hijo de Meraiot,

son of Amariah, son of Azariah, son of Meraioth,

4 h ijo de Zeraías, hijo de Uzi, hijo de Buqui,

son of Zerahiah, son of Uzzi, son of Bukki,

5 h ijo de Abisúa, hijo de Finees, hijo de Eleazar, hijo de Aarón, sumo sacerdote.

son of Abishua, son of Phinehas, son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the head priest;

6 E ste Esdras subió de Babilonia, y era escriba experto en la ley de Moisés, que el Señor, Dios de Israel, había dado; y el rey le concedió todo lo que pedía porque la mano del Señor su Dios estaba sobre él.

Ezra himself hath come up from Babylon, and he a scribe ready in the law of Moses, that Jehovah God of Israel gave, and the king giveth to him -- according to the hand of Jehovah his God upon him -- all his request.

7 T ambién algunos de los hijos de Israel y de los sacerdotes, levitas, cantores, porteros y sirvientes del templo subieron a Jerusalén en el año séptimo del rey Artajerjes.

And there go up of the sons of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the gatekeepers, and the Nethinim, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king.

8 Y él llegó a Jerusalén en el quinto mes; era el año séptimo del rey.

And he cometh in to Jerusalem in the fifth month, that the seventh year of the king,

9 P orque el primer día del mes primero comenzó a subir de Babilonia; y el primer día del mes quinto llegó a Jerusalén, pues la mano bondadosa de su Dios estaba sobre él.

for on the first of the month he hath founded the ascent from Babylon, and on the first of the fifth month he hath come in unto Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him,

10 Y a que Esdras había dedicado su corazón a estudiar la ley del Señor, y a practicar la, y a enseñar sus estatutos y ordenanzas en Israel.

for Ezra hath prepared his heart to seek the law of Jehovah, and to do, and to teach in Israel statute and judgment.

11 E sta es la copia del decreto que el rey Artajerjes dio al sacerdote Esdras, el escriba, instruido en las palabras de los mandamientos del Señor y de sus estatutos para Israel:

And this a copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave to Ezra the priest, the scribe, a scribe of the words of the commands of Jehovah, and of His statutes on Israel:

12 A rtajerjes, rey de reyes, al sacerdote Esdras, escriba de la ley del Dios del cielo: Paz perfecta. Y ahora

`Artaxerxes, king of kings, to Ezra the priest, a perfect scribe of the law of the God of heaven, and at such a time:

13 y o he proclamado un decreto de que cualquiera del pueblo de Israel, de sus sacerdotes y de los levitas en mi reino que esté dispuesto a ir a Jerusalén, puede ir contigo.

By me hath been made a decree that every one who is willing, in my kingdom, of the people of Israel and of its priests and Levites, to go to Jerusalem with thee, doth go;

14 P or cuanto eres enviado por el rey y sus siete consejeros para investigar acerca de Judá y de Jerusalén conforme a la ley de tu Dios que está en tu mano,

because that from the king and his seven counsellors thou art sent, to inquire concerning Judah and concerning Jerusalem, with the law of God that in thy hand,

15 y para llevar la plata y el oro que el rey y sus consejeros han ofrendado voluntariamente al Dios de Israel, cuya morada está en Jerusalén,

and to carry silver and gold that the king and his counsellors willingly offered to the God of Israel, whose tabernacle in Jerusalem,

16 y toda la plata y el oro que halles en toda la provincia de Babilonia, con la ofrenda voluntaria que el pueblo y los sacerdotes hayan ofrecido voluntariamente para la casa de su Dios que está en Jerusalén.

and all the silver and gold that thou findest in all the province of Babylon, with the free-will offerings of the people, and of the priests, offering willingly, for the house of their God that in Jerusalem,

17 C on este dinero, pues, comprarás diligentemente novillos, carneros y corderos, con sus ofrendas de cereal y sus libaciones correspondientes, y los ofrecerás sobre el altar de la casa de vuestro Dios que está en Jerusalén.

therefore thou dost speedily buy with this money, bullocks, rams, lambs, and their presents, and their libations, and dost bring them near to the altar of the house of your God that in Jerusalem,

18 Y lo que a ti y a tus hermanos os parezca bien hacer con la plata y el oro que quede, hacedlo conforme a la voluntad de vuestro Dios.

and that which to thee and to thy brethren is good to do with the rest of the silver and gold, according to the will of your God ye do.'

19 T ambién los utensilios que te son entregados para el servicio de la casa de tu Dios, entrégalos todos delante del Dios de Jerusalén.

`And the vessels that are given to thee, for the service of the house of thy God, make perfect before the God of Jerusalem;

20 Y lo demás que se necesite para la casa de tu Dios, para lo cual tengas ocasión de proveer, provéelo del tesoro real.

and the rest of the needful things of the house of thy God, that it falleth to thee to give, thou dost give from the treasure-house of the king.

21 Y o, el rey Artajerjes, proclamo un decreto a todos los tesoreros que están en las provincias más allá del río, que todo lo que os pida el sacerdote Esdras, escriba de la ley del Dios del cielo, sea hecho puntualmente,

`And by me -- I Artaxerxes the king -- is made a decree to all treasurers who beyond the river, that all that Ezra the priest, scribe of the law of the God of heaven, doth ask of you, be done speedily:

22 h asta cien talentos de plata, cien coros de trigo, cien batos de vino, cien batos de aceite y sal sin medida.

Unto silver a hundred talents, and unto wheat a hundred cors, and unto wine a hundred baths, and unto oil a hundred baths, and salt without reckoning;

23 T odo cuanto ordene el Dios del cielo, sea hecho con esmero para la casa del Dios del cielo, no sea que venga la ira contra el reino del rey y sus hijos.

all that by the decree of the God of heaven, let be done diligently for the house of the God of heaven; for why is there wrath against the kingdom of the king and his sons?

24 T ambién os hacemos saber que no se permite cobrar tributo, impuesto o peaje a ninguno de los sacerdotes, levitas, cantores, porteros, sirvientes, o ministros de esta casa de Dios.

`And to you we are making known, that upon any of the priests and Levites, singers, gatekeepers, Nethinim, and servants of the house of God, tribute and custom there is no authority to lift up.

25 Y tú, Esdras, conforme a la sabiduría de tu Dios que posees, nombra magistrados y jueces para juzgar a todo el pueblo que está en la provincia más allá del río, a todos los que conocen las leyes de tu Dios; y a cualquiera que las ignore, le enseñarás.

`And thou, Ezra, according to the wisdom of thy God, that in thy hand, appoint magistrates and judges who may be judges to all the people who are beyond the river, to all knowing the law of thy God, and he who hath not known ye cause to know;

26 Y todo aquel que no cumpla la ley de tu Dios y la ley del rey, que la justicia se le aplique severamente, sea para muerte o destierro o confiscación de bienes o encarcelamiento.

and any who doth not do the law of thy God, and the law of the king, speedily is judgment done upon him, whether to death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of riches, and to bonds.'

27 B endito sea el Señor, Dios de nuestros padres, que ha puesto esto en el corazón del rey, para embellecer la casa del Señor que está en Jerusalén,

Blessed Jehovah, God of our fathers, who hath given such a thing as this in the heart of the king, to beautify the house of Jehovah that in Jerusalem,

28 y que me ha extendido misericordia delante del rey y de sus consejeros y delante de todos los príncipes poderosos del rey. Así fui fortalecido según estaba la mano del Señor mi Dios sobre mí, y reuní a los jefes de Israel para que subieran conmigo.

and unto me hath stretched out kindness before the king and his counsellors, and before all the mighty heads of the king: and I have strengthened myself as the hand of Jehovah my God upon me, and I gather out of Israel heads to go up with me.
