1 L os filisteos pelearon contra Israel y los hombres de Israel huyeron delante de los filisteos y cayeron muertos en el monte Gilboa.

And the Philistines are fighting against Israel, and the men of Israel flee from the face of the Philistines, and fall wounded in mount Gilboa,

2 L os filisteos persiguieron muy de cerca a Saúl y a sus hijos, y mataron a Jonatán, a Abinadab y a Malquisúa, hijos de Saúl.

and the Philistines follow Saul and his sons, and the Philistines smite Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, sons of Saul.

3 Y arreció la batalla contra Saúl, los arqueros lo alcanzaron y fue gravemente herido por ellos.

And the battle is hard against Saul, and the archers find him -- men with bow -- and he is pained greatly by the archers;

4 E ntonces Saúl dijo a su escudero: Saca tu espada y traspásame con ella, no sea que vengan estos incircuncisos y me traspasen y hagan burla de mí. Pero su escudero no quiso, porque tenía mucho miedo. Por lo cual Saúl tomó su espada y se echó sobre ella.

and Saul saith to the bearer of his weapons, `Draw thy sword, and pierce me with it, lest they come -- these uncircumcised -- and have pierced me, and rolled themselves on me;' and the bearer of his weapons hath not been willing, for he is greatly afraid, and Saul taketh the sword, and falleth upon it.

5 A l ver su escudero que Saúl había muerto, él también se echó sobre su espada y murió con él.

And the bearer of his weapons seeth that Saul dead, and he falleth -- he also -- on his sword, and dieth with him;

6 A sí murió Saúl aquel día, junto con sus tres hijos, su escudero y todos sus hombres.

and Saul dieth, and three of his sons, and the bearer of his weapons, also all his men, on that day together.

7 C uando los hombres de Israel que estaban al otro lado del valle, con los que estaban más allá del Jordán, vieron que los hombres de Israel habían huido y que Saúl y sus hijos habían muerto, abandonaron las ciudades y huyeron; entonces vinieron los filisteos y habitaron en ellas.

And they see -- the men of Israel, who beyond the valley, and who beyond the Jordan -- that the men of Israel have fled, and that Saul and his sons have died, and they forsake the cities and flee, and Philistines come in, and dwell in them.

8 Y sucedió que al día siguiente, cuando vinieron los filisteos a despojar a los muertos, hallaron a Saúl y a sus tres hijos caídos en el monte Gilboa.

And it cometh to pass on the morrow, that the Philistines come to strip the wounded, and they find Saul and his three sons fallen on mount Gilboa,

9 L e cortaron la cabeza y lo despojaron de sus armas, y enviaron mensajeros por toda la tierra de los filisteos, para que llevaran las buenas nuevas a la casa de sus ídolos y al pueblo.

and they cut off his head, and strip off his weapons, and send into the land of the Philistines round about, to proclaim tidings the house of their idols, and the people;

10 P usieron sus armas en el templo de Astarot, y ataron su cuerpo al muro de Bet-sán.

and they place his weapons the house of Ashtaroth, and his body they have fixed on the wall of Beth-Shan.

11 C uando oyeron los habitantes de Jabes de Galaad lo que los filisteos habían hecho a Saúl,

And they hear regarding it -- the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead -- that which the Philistines have done to Saul,

12 s e levantaron todos los hombres valientes, y caminando toda la noche, tomaron el cuerpo de Saúl y los cuerpos de sus hijos del muro de Bet-sán, y volviendo a Jabes, los quemaron allí.

and all the men of valour arise, and go all the night, and take the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, from the wall of Beth-Shan, and come in to Jabesh, and burn them there,

13 Y tomando sus huesos, los enterraron debajo del tamarisco en Jabes, y ayunaron siete días.

and they take their bones, and bury under the tamarisk in Jabesh, and fast seven days.
