1 A masías tenía veinticinco años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó veintinueve años en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre era Joadán, de Jerusalén.

A son of twenty and five years hath Amaziah reigned, and twenty and nine years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother Jehoaddan of Jerusalem,

2 E hizo lo recto ante los ojos del Señor, aunque no de todo corazón.

and he doth that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah -- only, not with a perfect heart.

3 Y sucedió que una vez afianzado el reino en su mano, mató a los siervos suyos que habían asesinado al rey su padre.

And it cometh to pass, when the kingdom hath been strong upon him, that he slayeth his servants, those smiting the king his father,

4 P ero a sus hijos no les dio muerte, sino que hizo conforme a lo que está escrito en la ley en el libro de Moisés, tal como el Señor ordenó, diciendo: No se dará muerte a los padres por los hijos, ni se dará muerte a los hijos por los padres, sino que a cada uno se le dará muerte por su propio pecado.

and their sons he hath not put to death, but as is written in the law, in the book of Moses, whom Jehovah commanded, saying, `Fathers do not die for sons, and sons die not for fathers, but each for his own sin they die.'

5 A demás, Amasías reunió a Judá, y conforme a sus casas paternas los puso bajo comandantes de miles y comandantes de cientos por todo Judá y Benjamín; e hizo un censo de los de veinte años arriba, y halló trescientos mil hombres escogidos, hábiles para ir a la guerra y para manejar lanza y escudo.

And Amaziah gathereth Judah, and appointeth them, according to the house of the fathers, for heads of the thousands, and for heads of the hundreds, for all Judah and Benjamin; and he inspecteth them from a son of twenty years and upward, and findeth them three hundred thousand chosen ones, going forth to the host, holding spear and target.

6 Y tomó a sueldo a cien mil guerreros valientes de Israel por cien talentos de plata.

And he hireth out of Israel a hundred thousand mighty ones of valour, with a hundred talents of silver;

7 P ero un hombre de Dios vino a él, diciendo: Oh rey, no dejes que el ejército de Israel vaya contigo, porque el Señor no está con Israel ni con ninguno de los hijos de Efraín.

and a man of God hath come in unto him, saying, `O king, the host of Israel doth not go with thee; for Jehovah is not with Israel -- all the sons of Ephraim;

8 P ero si tú vas, haz lo, esfuérzate para la batalla; sin embargo Dios te derribará delante del enemigo, porque Dios tiene poder para ayudar y para derribar.

but if thou art going -- do, be strong for battle, God doth cause thee to stumble before an enemy, for there is power in God to help, and to cause to stumble.'

9 Y Amasías dijo al hombre de Dios: ¿Y qué hacer con los cien talentos que he dado a las tropas de Israel? Y el hombre de Dios respondió: El Señor tiene mucho más que darte que esto.

And Amaziah saith to the man of God, `And what -- to do for the hundred talents that I have given to the troop of Israel?' And the man of God saith, `Jehovah hath more to give to thee than this.'

10 E ntonces Amasías despidió las tropas que vinieron a él de Efraín, para que se fueran a sus casas; y se encendió en gran manera la ira de ellos contra Judá, y regresaron a sus casas ardiendo en ira.

And Amaziah separateth them -- for the troop that hath come in unto him from Ephraim to go to their own place, and their anger doth burn mightily against Judah, and they turn back to their place in the heat of anger.

11 Y Amasías se fortaleció, y al frente de su pueblo fue al valle de la Sal y mató a diez mil de los hijos de Seir.

And Amaziah hath strengthened himself, and leadeth his people, and goeth to the Valley of Salt, and smiteth the sons of Seir -- ten thousand.

12 T ambién los hijos de Judá capturaron vivos a diez mil y los llevaron a la cumbre de la peña, los echaron abajo desde la cumbre de la peña y todos fueron despedazados.

And ten thousand alive have the sons of Judah taken captive, and they bring them to the top of the rock, and cast them from the top of the rock, and all of them have been broken.

13 P ero las tropas que Amasías había hecho volver para que no fueran con él a la batalla, saquearon las ciudades de Judá desde Samaria hasta Bet-horón, mataron a tres mil de ellos y tomaron mucho botín.

And the sons of the troop that Amaziah hath sent back from going with him to battle -- they rush against cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Beth-Horon, and smite of them three thousand, and seize much prey.

14 Y aconteció que después que Amasías regresó de la matanza de los edomitas, trajo los dioses de los hijos de Seir y los puso como sus dioses, se postró delante de ellos y les quemó incienso.

And it cometh to pass, after the coming in of Amaziah from smiting the Edomites, that he bringeth in the gods of the sons of Seir, and establisheth them to him for gods, and before them doth bow himself, and to them he maketh perfume.

15 E ntonces se encendió la ira del Señor contra Amasías, y le envió un profeta que le dijo: ¿Por qué has buscado a los dioses de otro pueblo, que no han podido librar a su propio pueblo de tu mano ?

And the anger of Jehovah burneth against Amaziah, and He sendeth unto him a prophet, and he saith unto him, `Why hast thou sought the gods of the people that have not delivered their people out of thy hand?'

16 Y mientras hablaba con él, el rey le dijo: ¿Acaso te hemos constituido consejero real? Detente. ¿Por qué buscas que te maten ? Entonces el profeta se detuvo, y dijo: Yo sé que Dios ha determinado destruirte, porque has hecho esto y no has escuchado mi consejo.

And it cometh to pass, in his speaking unto him, that he saith to him, `For a counsellor to the king have we appointed thee? cease for thee; why do they smite thee?' And the prophet ceaseth, and saith, `I have known that God hath counselled to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened to my counsel.'

17 E ntonces Amasías, rey de Judá, tomó consejo y envió mensajeros a Joás, hijo de Joacaz, hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel, diciendo: Ven, veámonos cara a cara.

And Amaziah king of Judah taketh counsel, and sendeth unto Joash son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying,

18 Y Joás, rey de Israel, envió mensaje a Amasías, rey de Judá, diciendo: El cardo que estaba en el Líbano, envió a decir al cedro que estaba en el Líbano, diciendo: “Da tu hija por mujer a mi hijo.” Pero pasó una fiera que estaba en el Líbano, y pisoteó el cardo.

`Come, we look one another in the face.' And Joash king of Israel sendeth unto Amaziah king of Judah, saying, `The thorn that in Lebanon hath sent unto the cedar that in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son for a wife; and pass by doth a beast of the field that in Lebanon, and treadeth down the thorn.

19 T ú dijiste: “He aquí, he derrotado a Edom”; y tu corazón se ha envanecido para gloriarte. Quédate ahora en tu casa; ¿por qué quieres provocar el mal, de modo que caigas tú y Judá contigo ?

Thou hast said, Lo, I have smitten Edom; and thy heart hath lifted thee up to boast; now, abide in thy house, why dost thou stir thyself up in evil, that thou hast fallen, thou, and Judah with thee?'

20 P ero Amasías no quiso escuchar, porque esto venía de Dios, para entregarlos en mano de Joás, pues ellos habían buscado los dioses de Edom.

And Amaziah hath not hearkened, for from God it in order to give them into hand, because they have sought the gods of Edom;

21 Y subió Joás, rey de Israel, y él y Amasías, rey de Judá, se enfrentaron en Bet-semes, que pertenece a Judá.

and go up doth Joash king of Israel, and they look one another in the face, he and Amaziah king of Judah, in Beth-Shemesh, that Judah's,

22 Y Judá fue derrotado por Israel, y huyeron, cada uno a su tienda.

and Judah is smitten before Israel, and they flee -- each to his tents.

23 E ntonces Joás, rey de Israel, capturó en Bet-semes a Amasías, rey de Judá, hijo de Joás, hijo de Joacaz, y lo llevó a Jerusalén; y derribó la muralla de Jerusalén desde la puerta de Efraín hasta la puerta del Angulo, cuatrocientos codos.

And Amaziah king of Judah, son of Joash, son of Jehoahaz, hath Joash king of Israel caught in Beth-Shemesh, and bringeth him in to Jerusalem, and breaketh down in the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the gate of the corner, four hundred cubits,

24 Y tomó todo el oro y la plata, todos los utensilios que se encontraban con Obed-edom en la casa de Dios, los tesoros de la casa del rey y también los rehenes, y se volvió a Samaria.

and all the gold, and the silver, and all the vessels that are found in the house of God with Obed-Edom, and the treasures of the house of the king, and the sons of the pledges, and turneth back to Samaria.

25 Y Amasías, hijo de Joás, rey de Judá, vivió quince años después de la muerte de Joás, hijo de Joacaz, rey de Israel.

And Amaziah son of Joash, king of Judah, liveth after the death of Joash son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, fifteen years;

26 L os demás hechos de Amasías, desde el primero hasta el postrero, he aquí, ¿no están escritos en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel?

and the rest of the matters of Amaziah, the first and the last, lo, are they not written on the books of the kings of Judah and Israel?

27 Y desde el día en que Amasías se apartó de seguir al Señor, conspiraron contra él en Jerusalén, y él huyó a Laquis; pero lo persiguieron hasta Laquis y allí lo mataron.

And from the time that Amaziah hath turned aside from after Jehovah -- they make a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem, and he fleeth to Lachish, and they send after him to Lachish, and put him to death there,

28 L o trajeron en caballos y lo sepultaron con sus padres en la ciudad de David.

and lift him up on the horses, and bury him with his fathers in the city of Judah.
