1 E ntonces continuó Eliú, y dijo:

And Elihu answereth and saith: --

2 ¿ Piensas que esto es justo ? Dices: “Mi justicia es más que la de Dios.”

This hast thou reckoned for judgment: Thou hast said -- `My righteousness more than God's?'

3 P orque dices: “¿Qué ventaja será para ti ? ¿Qué ganaré yo por no haber pecado ?”

For thou sayest, `What doth it profit Thee! What do I profit from my sin?'

4 Y o te daré razones, y a tus amigos contigo.

I return thee words, and thy friends with thee,

5 M ira a los cielos y ve, contempla las nubes, son más altas que tú.

Behold attentively the heavens -- and see, And behold the clouds, They have been higher than thou.

6 S i has pecado, ¿qué logras tú contra El? Y si tus transgresiones son muchas, ¿qué le haces ?

If thou hast sinned, what dost thou against Him? And thy transgressions have been multiplied, What dost thou to Him?

7 S i eres justo, ¿qué le das, o qué recibe El de tu mano?

If thou hast been righteous, What dost thou give to Him? Or what from thy hand doth He receive?

8 P ara un hombre como tú es tu maldad, y para un hijo de hombre tu justicia.

For a man like thyself thy wickedness, And for a son of man thy righteousness.

9 A causa de la multitud de opresiones claman los hombres; gritan a causa del brazo de los poderosos.

Because of the multitude of oppressions They cause to cry out, They cry because of the arm of the mighty.

10 P ero ninguno dice: “¿Dónde está Dios mi Hacedor, que inspira cánticos en la noche,

And none said, `Where God my maker? Giving songs in the night,

11 q ue nos enseña más que a las bestias de la tierra, y nos hace más sabios que las aves de los cielos?”

Teaching us more than the beasts of the earth, Yea, than the fowl of the heavens He maketh us wiser.'

12 A llí claman, pero El no responde a causa del orgullo de los malos.

There they cry, and He doth not answer, Because of the pride of evil doers.

13 C iertamente el clamor vano no escuchará Dios, el Todopoderoso no lo tomará en cuenta.

Surely vanity God doth not hear, And the Mighty doth not behold it.

14 C uánto menos cuando dices que no le contemplas, que la causa está delante de El y tienes que esperarle.

Yea, though thou sayest thou dost not behold Him, Judgment before Him, and stay for Him.

15 Y ahora, porque El no ha castigado con su ira, ni se ha fijado bien en la transgresión,

And, now, because there is not, He hath appointed His anger, And He hath not known in great extremity.

16 J ob abre vanamente su boca, multiplica palabras sin sabiduría.

And Job vanity doth open his mouth, Without knowledge words he multiplieth.
