1 P rosiguió Eliú en su razonamiento, y dijo:

And Elihu answereth and saith: --

2 ¿ Piensas que es cosa recta lo que has dicho: Más justo soy yo que Dios?

This hast thou reckoned for judgment: Thou hast said -- `My righteousness more than God's?'

3 P orque dijiste: ¿Qué ventaja sacaré de ello? ¿O qué provecho tendré de no haber pecado?

For thou sayest, `What doth it profit Thee! What do I profit from my sin?'

4 Y o te responderé razones, Y a tus compañeros contigo.

I return thee words, and thy friends with thee,

5 M ira a los cielos, y ve, Y considera que las nubes son más altas que tú.

Behold attentively the heavens -- and see, And behold the clouds, They have been higher than thou.

6 S i pecares, ¿qué habrás logrado contra él? Y si tus rebeliones se multiplicaren, ¿qué le harás tú?

If thou hast sinned, what dost thou against Him? And thy transgressions have been multiplied, What dost thou to Him?

7 S i fueres justo, ¿qué le darás a él? ¿O qué recibirá de tu mano?

If thou hast been righteous, What dost thou give to Him? Or what from thy hand doth He receive?

8 A l hombre como tú dañará tu impiedad, Y al hijo de hombre aprovechará tu justicia.

For a man like thyself thy wickedness, And for a son of man thy righteousness.

9 A causa de la multitud de las violencias claman, Y se lamentan por el poderío de los grandes.

Because of the multitude of oppressions They cause to cry out, They cry because of the arm of the mighty.

10 Y ninguno dice: ¿Dónde está Dios mi Hacedor, Que da cánticos en la noche,

And none said, `Where God my maker? Giving songs in the night,

11 Q ue nos enseña más que a las bestias de la tierra, Y nos hace sabios más que a las aves del cielo?

Teaching us more than the beasts of the earth, Yea, than the fowl of the heavens He maketh us wiser.'

12 A llí clamarán, y él no oirá, Por la soberbia de los malos.

There they cry, and He doth not answer, Because of the pride of evil doers.

13 C iertamente Dios no oirá la vanidad, Ni la mirará el Omnipotente.

Surely vanity God doth not hear, And the Mighty doth not behold it.

14 ¿ Cuánto menos cuando dices que no haces caso de él? La causa está delante de él; por tanto, aguárdale.

Yea, though thou sayest thou dost not behold Him, Judgment before Him, and stay for Him.

15 M as ahora, porque en su ira no castiga, Ni inquiere con rigor,

And, now, because there is not, He hath appointed His anger, And He hath not known in great extremity.

16 P or eso Job abre su boca vanamente, Y multiplica palabras sin sabiduría.

And Job vanity doth open his mouth, Without knowledge words he multiplieth.
