1 Y oía Jacob las palabras de los hijos de Labán, que decían: Jacob ha tomado todo lo que era de nuestro padre, y de lo que era de nuestro padre ha adquirido toda esta riqueza.

And he heareth the words of Laban's sons, saying, `Jacob hath taken all that our father hath; yea, from that which our father hath, he hath made all this honour;'

2 M iraba también Jacob el semblante de Labán, y veía que no era para con él como había sido antes.

and Jacob seeth the face of Laban, and lo, it is not with him as heretofore.

3 T ambién Jehová dijo a Jacob: Vuélvete a la tierra de tus padres, y a tu parentela, y yo estaré contigo.

And Jehovah saith unto Jacob, `Turn back unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred, and I am with thee.'

4 E nvió, pues, Jacob, y llamó a Raquel y a Lea al campo donde estaban sus ovejas,

And Jacob sendeth and calleth for Rachel and for Leah to the field unto his flock;

5 y les dijo: Veo que el semblante de vuestro padre no es para conmigo como era antes; mas el Dios de mi padre ha estado conmigo.

and saith to them, `I am beholding your father's face -- that it is not towards me as heretofore, and the God of my father hath been with me,

6 V osotras sabéis que con todas mis fuerzas he servido a vuestro padre;

and ye -- ye have known that with all my power I have served your father,

7 y vuestro padre me ha engañado, y me ha cambiado el salario diez veces; pero Dios no le ha permitido que me hiciese mal.

and your father hath played upon me, and hath changed my hire ten times; and God hath not suffered him to do evil with me.

8 S i él decía así: Los pintados serán tu salario, entonces todas las ovejas parían pintados; y si decía así: Los listados serán tu salario; entonces todas las ovejas parían listados.

`If he say thus: The speckled are thy hire, then bare all the flock speckled ones; and if he say thus: The ring-straked are thy hire, then bare all the flock ring-straked;

9 A sí quitó Dios el ganado de vuestro padre, y me lo dio a mí.

and God taketh away the substance of your father, and doth give to me.

10 Y sucedió que al tiempo que las ovejas estaban en celo, alcé yo mis ojos y vi en sueños, y he aquí los machos que cubrían a las hembras eran listados, pintados y abigarrados.

`And it cometh to pass at the time of the flock conceiving, that I lift up mine eyes and see in a dream, and lo, the he-goats, which are going up on the flock, ring-straked, speckled, and grisled;

11 Y me dijo el ángel de Dios en sueños: Jacob. Y yo dije: Heme aquí.

and the messenger of God saith unto me in the dream, Jacob, and I say, Here I.

12 Y él dijo: Alza ahora tus ojos, y verás que todos los machos que cubren a las hembras son listados, pintados y abigarrados; porque yo he visto todo lo que Labán te ha hecho.

`And He saith, Lift up, I pray thee, thine eyes, and see -- all the he-goats which are going up on the flock ring-straked, speckled, and grisled, for I have seen all that Laban is doing to thee;

13 Y o soy el Dios de Bet-el, donde tú ungiste la piedra, y donde me hiciste un voto. Levántate ahora y sal de esta tierra, y vuélvete a la tierra de tu nacimiento.

I the God of Bethel where thou hast anointed a standing pillar, where thou hast vowed a vow to me; now, arise, go out from this land, and turn back unto the land of thy birth.'

14 R espondieron Raquel y Lea, y le dijeron: ¿Tenemos acaso parte o heredad en la casa de nuestro padre?

And Rachel answereth -- Leah also -- and saith to him, `Have we yet a portion and inheritance in the house of our father?

15 ¿ No nos tiene ya como por extrañas, pues que nos vendió, y aun se ha comido del todo nuestro precio?

have we not been reckoned strangers to him? for he hath sold us, and he also utterly consumeth our money;

16 P orque toda la riqueza que Dios ha quitado a nuestro padre, nuestra es y de nuestros hijos; ahora, pues, haz todo lo que Dios te ha dicho. Jacob huye de Labán

for all the wealth which God hath taken away from our father, it ours, and our children's; and now, all that God hath said unto thee -- do.'

17 E ntonces se levantó Jacob, y subió sus hijos y sus mujeres sobre los camellos,

And Jacob riseth, and lifteth up his sons and his wives on the camels,

18 y puso en camino todo su ganado, y todo cuanto había adquirido, el ganado de su ganancia que había obtenido en Padan-aram, para volverse a Isaac su padre en la tierra de Canaán.

and leadeth all his cattle, and all his substance which he hath acquired, the cattle of his getting, which he hath acquired in Padan-Aram, to go unto Isaac his father, to the land of Canaan.

19 P ero Labán había ido a trasquilar sus ovejas; y Raquel hurtó los ídolos de su padre.

And Laban hath gone to shear his flock, and Rachel stealeth the teraphim which her father hath;

20 Y Jacob engañó a Labán arameo, no haciéndole saber que se iba.

and Jacob deceiveth the heart of Laban the Aramaean, because he hath not declared to him that he is fleeing;

21 H uyó, pues, con todo lo que tenía; y se levantó y pasó el Eufrates, y se dirigió al monte de Galaad.

and he fleeth, he and all that he hath, and riseth, and passeth over the River, and setteth his face the mount of Gilead.

22 Y al tercer día fue dicho a Labán que Jacob había huido.

And it is told to Laban on the third day that Jacob hath fled,

23 E ntonces Labán tomó a sus parientes consigo, y fue tras Jacob camino de siete días, y le alcanzó en el monte de Galaad.

and he taketh his brethren with him, and pursueth after him a journey of seven days, and overtaketh him in the mount of Gilead.

24 Y vino Dios a Labán arameo en sueños aquella noche, y le dijo: Guárdate que no hables a Jacob descomedidamente.

And God cometh in unto Laban the Aramaean in a dream of the night, and saith to him, `Take heed to thyself lest thou speak with Jacob from good unto evil.'

25 A lcanzó, pues, Labán a Jacob; y éste había fijado su tienda en el monte; y Labán acampó con sus parientes en el monte de Galaad.

And Laban overtaketh Jacob; and Jacob hath fixed his tent in the mount; and Laban with his brethren have fixed in the mount of Gilead.

26 Y dijo Labán a Jacob: ¿Qué has hecho, que me engañaste, y has traído a mis hijas como prisioneras de guerra?

And Laban saith to Jacob, `What hast thou done that thou dost deceive my heart, and lead away my daughters as captives of the sword?

27 ¿ Por qué te escondiste para huir, y me engañaste, y no me lo hiciste saber para que yo te despidiera con alegría y con cantares, con tamborín y arpa?

Why hast thou hidden thyself to flee, and deceivest me, and hast not declared to me, and I send thee away with joy and with songs, with tabret and with harp,

28 P ues ni aun me dejaste besar a mis hijos y mis hijas. Ahora, locamente has hecho.

and hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? -- now thou hast acted foolishly in doing;

29 P oder hay en mi mano para haceros mal; mas el Dios de tu padre me habló anoche diciendo: Guárdate que no hables a Jacob descomedidamente.

my hand is to God to do evil with you, but the God of your father yesternight hath spoken unto me, saying, Take heed to thyself from speaking with Jacob from good unto evil.

30 Y ya que te ibas, porque tenías deseo de la casa de tu padre, ¿por qué me hurtaste mis dioses?

`And now, thou hast certainly gone, because thou hast been very desirous for the house of thy father; why hast thou stolen my gods?'

31 R espondió Jacob y dijo a Labán: Porque tuve miedo; pues pensé que quizá me quitarías por fuerza tus hijas.

And Jacob answereth and saith to Laban, `Because I was afraid, for I said, Lest thou take violently away thy daughters from me;

32 A quel en cuyo poder hallares tus dioses, no viva; delante de nuestros hermanos reconoce lo que yo tenga tuyo, y llévatelo. Jacob no sabía que Raquel los había hurtado.

with whomsoever thou findest thy gods -- he doth not live; before our brethren discern for thyself what with me, and take to thyself:' and Jacob hath not known that Rachel hath stolen them.

33 E ntró Labán en la tienda de Jacob, en la tienda de Lea, y en la tienda de las dos siervas, y no los halló; y salió de la tienda de Lea, y entró en la tienda de Raquel.

And Laban goeth into the tent of Jacob, and into the tent of Leah, and into the tent of the two handmaidens, and hath not found; and he goeth out from the tent of Leah, and goeth into the tent of Rachel.

34 P ero tomó Raquel los ídolos y los puso en una albarda de un camello, y se sentó sobre ellos; y buscó Labán en toda la tienda, y no los halló.

And Rachel hath taken the teraphim, and putteth them in the furniture of the camel, and sitteth upon them; and Laban feeleth all the tent, and hath not found;

35 Y ella dijo a su padre: No se enoje mi señor, porque no me puedo levantar delante de ti; pues estoy con la costumbre de las mujeres. Y él buscó, pero no halló los ídolos.

and she saith unto her father, `Let it not be displeasing in the eyes of my lord that I am not able to rise at thy presence, for the way of women on me;' and he searcheth, and hath not found the teraphim.

36 E ntonces Jacob se enojó, y riñó con Labán; y respondió Jacob y dijo a Labán: ¿Qué transgresión es la mía? ¿Cuál es mi pecado, para que con tanto ardor hayas venido en mi persecución?

And it is displeasing to Jacob, and he striveth with Laban; and Jacob answereth and saith to Laban, `What my transgression? what my sin, that thou hast burned after me?

37 P ues que has buscado en todas mis cosas, ¿qué has hallado de todos los enseres de tu casa? Ponlo aquí delante de mis hermanos y de los tuyos, y juzguen entre nosotros.

for thou hast felt all my vessels: what hast thou found of all the vessels of thy house? set here before my brethren, and thy brethren, and they decide between us both.

38 E stos veinte años he estado contigo; tus ovejas y tus cabras nunca abortaron, ni yo comí carnero de tus ovejas.

`These twenty years I with thee: thy ewes and thy she-goats have not miscarried, and the rams of thy flock I have not eaten;

39 N unca te traje lo arrebatado por las fieras: yo pagaba el daño; lo hurtado así de día como de noche, a mí me lo cobrabas.

the torn I have not brought in unto thee -- I, I repay it -- from my hand thou dost seek it; I have been deceived by day, and I have been deceived by night;

40 D e día me consumía el calor, y de noche la helada, y el sueño huía de mis ojos.

I have been: in the day consumed me hath drought, and frost by night, and wander doth my sleep from mine eyes.

41 A sí he estado veinte años en tu casa; catorce años te serví por tus dos hijas, y seis años por tu ganado, y has cambiado mi salario diez veces.

`This to me twenty years in thy house: I have served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy flock; and thou changest my hire ten times;

42 S i el Dios de mi padre, Dios de Abraham y temor de Isaac, no estuviera conmigo, de cierto me enviarías ahora con las manos vacías; pero Dios vio mi aflicción y el trabajo de mis manos, y te reprendió anoche.

unless the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the Fear of Isaac, had been for me, surely now empty thou hadst sent me away; mine affliction and the labour of my hands hath God seen, and reproveth yesternight.'

43 R espondió Labán y dijo a Jacob: Las hijas son hijas mías, y los hijos, hijos míos son, y las ovejas son mis ovejas, y todo lo que tú ves es mío: ¿y qué puedo yo hacer hoy a estas mis hijas, o a sus hijos que ellas han dado a luz?

And Laban answereth and saith unto Jacob, `The daughters my daughters, and the sons my sons, and the flock my flock, and all that thou art seeing mine; and to my daughters -- what do I to these to-day, or to their sons whom they have born?

44 V en, pues, ahora, y hagamos pacto tú y yo, y sea por testimonio entre nosotros dos.

and now, come, let us make a covenant, I and thou, and it hath been for a witness between me and thee.'

45 E ntonces Jacob tomó una piedra, y la levantó por señal.

And Jacob taketh a stone, and lifteth it up a standing pillar;

46 Y dijo Jacob a sus hermanos: Recoged piedras. Y tomaron piedras e hicieron un majano, y comieron allí sobre aquel majano.

and Jacob saith to his brethren, `Gather stones,' and they take stones, and make a heap; and they eat there on the heap;

47 Y lo llamó Labán, Jegar Sahaduta; y lo llamó Jacob, Galaad.

and Laban calleth it Jegar-Sahadutha; and Jacob hath called it Galeed.

48 P orque Labán dijo: Este majano es testigo hoy entre nosotros dos; por eso fue llamado su nombre Galaad;

And Laban saith, `This heap witness between me and thee to-day;' therefore hath he called its name Galeed;

49 y Mizpa, por cuanto dijo: Atalaye Jehová entre tú y yo, cuando nos apartemos el uno del otro.

Mizpah also, for he said, `Jehovah doth watch between me and thee, for we are hidden one from another;

50 S i afligieres a mis hijas, o si tomares otras mujeres además de mis hijas, nadie está con nosotros; mira, Dios es testigo entre nosotros dos.

if thou afflict my daughters, or take wives beside my daughters -- there is no man with us -- see, God witness between me and thee.'

51 D ijo más Labán a Jacob: He aquí este majano, y he aquí esta señal, que he erigido entre tú y yo.

And Laban saith to Jacob, `Lo, this heap, and lo, the standing pillar which I have cast between me and thee;

52 T estigo sea este majano, y testigo sea esta señal, que ni yo pasaré de este majano contra ti, ni tú pasarás de este majano ni de esta señal contra mí, para mal.

this heap witness, and the standing pillar witness, that I do not pass over this heap unto thee, and that thou dost not pass over this heap and this standing pillar unto me -- for evil;

53 E l Dios de Abraham y el Dios de Nacor juzgue entre nosotros, el Dios de sus padres. Y Jacob juró por aquel a quien temía Isaac su padre.

the God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, doth judge between us -- the God of their father,' and Jacob sweareth by the Fear of his father Isaac.

54 E ntonces Jacob inmoló víctimas en el monte, y llamó a sus hermanos a comer pan; y comieron pan, y durmieron aquella noche en el monte.

And Jacob sacrificeth a sacrifice in the mount, and calleth to his brethren to eat bread, and they eat bread, and lodge in the mount;

55 Y se levantó Labán de mañana, y besó sus hijos y sus hijas, y los bendijo; y regresó y se volvió a su lugar.

and Laban riseth early in the morning, and kisseth his sons and his daughters, and blesseth them; and Laban goeth on, and turneth back to his place.
