1 S imón Pedro, siervo y apóstol de Jesucristo, a los que habéis alcanzado, por la justicia de nuestro Dios y Salvador Jesucristo, una fe igualmente preciosa que la nuestra:

Simeon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who did obtain a like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ:

2 G racia y paz os sean multiplicadas, en el conocimiento de Dios y de nuestro Señor Jesús. Partícipes de la naturaleza divina

Grace to you, and peace be multiplied in the acknowledgement of God and of Jesus our Lord!

3 C omo todas las cosas que pertenecen a la vida y a la piedad nos han sido dadas por su divino poder, mediante el conocimiento de aquel que nos llamó por su gloria y excelencia,

As all things to us His divine power (the things pertaining unto life and piety) hath given, through the acknowledgement of him who did call us through glory and worthiness,

4 p or medio de las cuales nos ha dado preciosas y grandísimas promesas, para que por ellas llegaseis a ser participantes de la naturaleza divina, habiendo huido de la corrupción que hay en el mundo a causa de la concupiscencia;

through which to us the most great and precious promises have been given, that through these ye may become partakers of a divine nature, having escaped from the corruption in the world in desires.

5 v osotros también, poniendo toda diligencia por esto mismo, añadid a vuestra fe virtud; a la virtud, conocimiento;

And this same also -- all diligence having brought in besides, superadd in your faith the worthiness, and in the worthiness the knowledge,

6 a l conocimiento, dominio propio; al dominio propio, paciencia; a la paciencia, piedad;

and in the knowledge the temperance, and in the temperance the endurance, and in the endurance the piety,

7 a la piedad, afecto fraternal; y al afecto fraternal, amor.

and in the piety the brotherly kindness, and in the brotherly kindness the love;

8 P orque si estas cosas están en vosotros, y abundan, no os dejarán estar ociosos ni sin fruto en cuanto al conocimiento de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

for these things being to you and abounding, do make neither inert nor unfruitful in regard to the acknowledging of our Lord Jesus Christ,

9 P ero el que no tiene estas cosas tiene la vista muy corta; es ciego, habiendo olvidado la purificación de sus antiguos pecados.

for he with whom these things are not present is blind, dim-sighted, having become forgetful of the cleansing of his old sins;

10 P or lo cual, hermanos, tanto más procurad hacer firme vuestra vocación y elección; porque haciendo estas cosas, no caeréis jamás.

wherefore, the rather, brethren, be diligent to make stedfast your calling and choice, for these things doing, ye may never stumble,

11 P orque de esta manera os será otorgada amplia y generosa entrada en el reino eterno de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo.

for so, richly shall be superadded to you the entrance into the age-during reign of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

12 P or esto, yo no dejaré de recordaros siempre estas cosas, aunque vosotros las sepáis, y estéis confirmados en la verdad presente.

Wherefore, I will not be careless always to remind you concerning these things, though, having known them, and having been established in the present truth,

13 P ues tengo por justo, en tanto que estoy en este cuerpo, el despertaros con amonestación;

and I think right, so long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up in reminding,

14 s abiendo que en breve debo abandonar el cuerpo, como nuestro Señor Jesucristo me ha declarado.

having known that soon is the laying aside of my tabernacle, even as also our Lord Jesus Christ did shew to me,

15 T ambién yo procuraré con diligencia que después de mi partida vosotros podáis en todo momento tener memoria de estas cosas. Testigos presenciales de la gloria de Cristo

and I will be diligent that also at every time ye have, after my outgoing, power to make to yourselves the remembrance of these things.

16 P orque no os hemos dado a conocer el poder y la venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo siguiendo fábulas artificiosas, sino como habiendo visto con nuestros propios ojos su majestad.

For, skilfully devised fables not having followed out, we did make known to you the power and presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, but eye-witnesses having become of his majesty --

17 P ues cuando él recibió de Dios Padre honra y gloria, le fue enviada desde la magnífica gloria una voz que decía: Este es mi Hijo amado, en el cual tengo complacencia.

for having received from God the Father honour and glory, such a voice being borne to him by the excellent glory: `This is My Son -- the beloved, in whom I was well pleased;'

18 Y nosotros oímos esta voz enviada del cielo, cuando estábamos con él en el monte santo.

and this voice we -- we did hear, out of heaven borne, being with him in the holy mount.

19 T enemos también la palabra profética más segura, a la cual hacéis bien en estar atentos como a una antorcha que alumbra en lugar oscuro, hasta que el día esclarezca y el lucero de la mañana salga en vuestros corazones;

And we have more firm the prophetic word, to which we do well giving heed, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, till day may dawn, and a morning star may arise -- in your hearts;

20 e ntendiendo primero esto, que ninguna profecía de la Escritura es de interpretación privada,

this first knowing, that no prophecy of the Writing doth come of private exposition,

21 p orque nunca la profecía fue traída por voluntad humana, sino que los santos hombres de Dios hablaron siendo inspirados por el Espíritu Santo.

for not by will of man did ever prophecy come, but by the Holy Spirit borne on holy men of God spake.
