1 E ra Abraham ya viejo, y bien avanzado en años; y Jehová había bendecido a Abraham en todo.

And Abraham old, he hath entered into days, and Jehovah hath blessed Abraham in all;

2 Y dijo Abraham a un criado suyo, el más viejo de su casa, que era el que gobernaba en todo lo que tenía: Pon ahora tu mano debajo de mi muslo,

and Abraham saith unto his servant, the eldest of his house, who is ruling over all that he hath, `Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh,

3 y te juramentaré por Jehová, Dios de los cielos y Dios de la tierra, que no tomarás para mi hijo mujer de las hijas de los cananeos, entre los cuales yo habito;

and I cause thee to swear by Jehovah, God of the heavens, and God of the earth, that thou dost not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanite, in the midst of whom I am dwelling;

4 s ino que irás a mi tierra y a mi parentela, y tomarás mujer para mi hijo Isaac.

but unto my land and unto my kindred dost thou go, and hast taken a wife for my son, for Isaac.'

5 E l criado le respondió: Quizá la mujer no querrá venir en pos de mí a esta tierra. ¿Volveré, pues, tu hijo a la tierra de donde saliste?

And the servant saith unto him, `It may be the woman is not willing to come after me unto this land; do I at all cause thy son to turn back unto the land from whence thou camest out?'

6 Y Abraham le dijo: Guárdate que no vuelvas a mi hijo allá.

And Abraham saith unto him, `Take heed to thyself, lest thou cause my son to turn back thither;

7 J ehová, Dios de los cielos, que me tomó de la casa de mi padre y de la tierra de mi parentela, y me habló y me juró, diciendo: A tu descendencia daré esta tierra; él enviará su ángel delante de ti, y tú traerás de allá mujer para mi hijo.

Jehovah, God of the heavens, who hath taken me from the house of my father, and from the land of my birth, and who hath spoken to me, and who hath sworn to me, saying, To thy seed I give this land, He doth send His messenger before thee, and thou hast taken a wife for my son from thence;

8 Y si la mujer no quisiere venir en pos de ti, serás libre de este mi juramento; solamente que no vuelvas allá a mi hijo.

and if the woman be not willing to come after thee, then thou hast been acquitted from this mine oath: only my son thou dost not cause to turn back thither.'

9 E ntonces el criado puso su mano debajo del muslo de Abraham su señor, y le juró sobre este negocio.

And the servant putteth his hand under the thigh of Abraham his lord, and sweareth to him concerning this matter.

10 Y el criado tomó diez camellos de los camellos de su señor, y se fue, tomando toda clase de regalos escogidos de su señor; y puesto en camino, llegó a Mesopotamia, a la ciudad de Nacor.

And the servant taketh ten camels of the camels of his lord and goeth, also of all the goods of his lord in his hand, and he riseth, and goeth unto Aram-Naharaim, unto the city of Nahor;

11 E hizo arrodillar los camellos fuera de la ciudad, junto a un pozo de agua, a la hora de la tarde, la hora en que salen las doncellas por agua.

and he causeth the camels to kneel at the outside of the city, at the well of water, at even-time, at the time of the coming out of the women who draw water.

12 Y dijo: Oh Jehová, Dios de mi señor Abraham, dame, te ruego, el tener hoy buen encuentro, y haz misericordia con mi señor Abraham.

And he saith, `Jehovah, God of my lord Abraham, cause to meet, I pray Thee, before me this day -- (and do kindness with my lord Abraham;

13 H e aquí yo estoy junto a la fuente de agua, y las hijas de los varones de esta ciudad salen por agua.

lo, I am standing by the fountain of water, and daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water;

14 S ea, pues, que la doncella a quien yo dijere: Baja tu cántaro, te ruego, para que yo beba, y ella respondiere: Bebe, y también daré de beber a tus camellos; que sea ésta la que tú has destinado para tu siervo Isaac; y en esto conoceré que habrás hecho misericordia con mi señor.

and it hath been, the young person unto whom I say, Incline, I pray thee, thy pitcher, and I drink, and she hath said, Drink, and I water also thy camels) -- her Thou hast decided for Thy servant, for Isaac; and by it I know that Thou hast done kindness with my lord.'

15 Y aconteció que antes que él acabase de hablar, he aquí Rebeca, que había nacido a Betuel, hijo de Milca mujer de Nacor hermano de Abraham, la cual salía con su cántaro sobre su hombro.

And it cometh to pass, before he hath finished speaking, that lo, Rebekah (who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, wife of Nahor, brother of Abraham) is coming out, and her pitcher on her shoulder,

16 Y la doncella era de aspecto muy hermoso, virgen, a la que varón no había conocido; la cual descendió a la fuente, y llenó su cántaro, y se volvía.

and the young person of very good appearance, a virgin, and a man hath not known her; and she goeth down to the fountain, and filleth her pitcher, and cometh up.

17 E ntonces el criado corrió hacia ella, y dijo: Te ruego que me des a beber un poco de agua de tu cántaro.

And the servant runneth to meet her, and saith, `Let me swallow, I pray thee, a little water from thy pitcher;'

18 E lla respondió: Bebe, señor mío; y se dio prisa a bajar su cántaro sobre su mano, y le dio a beber.

and she saith, `Drink, my lord;' and she hasteth, and letteth down her pitcher upon her hand, and giveth him drink.

19 Y cuando acabó de darle de beber, dijo: También para tus camellos sacaré agua, hasta que acaben de beber.

And she finisheth giving him drink, and saith, `Also for thy camels I draw till they have finished drinking;'

20 Y se dio prisa, y vació su cántaro en la pila, y corrió otra vez al pozo para sacar agua, y sacó para todos sus camellos.

and she hasteth, and emptieth her pitcher into the drinking-trough, and runneth again unto the well to draw, and draweth for all his camels.

21 Y el hombre estaba maravillado de ella, callando, para saber si Jehová había prosperado su viaje, o no.

And the man, wondering at her, remaineth silent, to know whether Jehovah hath made his way prosperous or not.

22 Y cuando los camellos acabaron de beber, le dio el hombre un pendiente de oro que pesaba medio siclo, y dos brazaletes que pesaban diez,

And it cometh to pass when the camels have finished drinking, that the man taketh a golden ring (whose weight a bekah), and two bracelets for her hands (whose weight ten of gold),

23 y dijo: ¿De quién eres hija? Te ruego que me digas: ¿hay en casa de tu padre lugar donde posemos?

and saith, `Whose daughter thou? declare to me, I pray thee, is the house of thy father a place for us to lodge in?'

24 Y ella respondió: Soy hija de Betuel hijo de Milca, el cual ella dio a luz a Nacor.

And she saith unto him, `I daughter of Bethuel, son of Milcah, whom she hath borne to Nahor.'

25 Y añadió: También hay en nuestra casa paja y mucho forraje, y lugar para posar.

She saith also unto him, `Both straw and provender abundant with us, also a place to lodge in.'

26 E l hombre entonces se inclinó, y adoró a Jehová,

And the man boweth, and doth obeisance to Jehovah,

27 y dijo: Bendito sea Jehová, Dios de mi amo Abraham, que no apartó de mi amo su misericordia y su verdad, guiándome Jehová en el camino a casa de los hermanos de mi amo.

and saith, `Blessed Jehovah, God of my lord Abraham, who hath not left off His kindness and His truth with my lord; -- I in the way, Jehovah hath led me to the house of my lord's brethren.'

28 Y la doncella corrió, e hizo saber en casa de su madre estas cosas.

And the young person runneth, and declareth to the house of her mother according to these words.

29 Y Rebeca tenía un hermano que se llamaba Labán, el cual corrió afuera hacia el hombre, a la fuente.

And Rebekah hath a brother, and his name Laban, and Laban runneth unto the man who without, unto the fountain;

30 Y cuando vio el pendiente y los brazaletes en las manos de su hermana, que decía: Así me habló aquel hombre, vino a él; y he aquí que estaba con los camellos junto a la fuente.

yea, it cometh to pass, when he seeth the ring, and the bracelets on the hands of his sister, and when he heareth the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, `Thus hath the man spoken unto me,' that he cometh in unto the man, and lo, he is standing by the camels by the fountain.

31 Y le dijo: Ven, bendito de Jehová; ¿por qué estás fuera? He preparado la casa, y el lugar para los camellos.

And he saith, `Come in, O blessed one of Jehovah, why standest thou without, and I -- I have prepared the house and place for the camels!'

32 E ntonces el hombre vino a casa, y Labán desató los camellos; y les dio paja y forraje, y agua para lavar los pies de él, y los pies de los hombres que con él venían.

And he bringeth in the man into the house, and looseth the camels, and giveth straw and provender for the camels, and water to wash his feet, and the feet of the men who with him:

33 Y le pusieron delante qué comer; mas él dijo: No comeré hasta que haya dicho mi mensaje. Y él le dijo: Habla.

and setteth before him to eat; but he saith, `I do not eat till I have spoken my word;' and he saith, `Speak.'

34 E ntonces dijo: Yo soy criado de Abraham.

And he saith, `I Abraham's servant;

35 Y Jehová ha bendecido mucho a mi amo, y él se ha engrandecido; y le ha dado ovejas y vacas, plata y oro, siervos y siervas, camellos y asnos.

and Jehovah hath blessed my lord exceedingly, and he is great; and He giveth to him flock, and herd, and silver, and gold, and men-servants, and maid-servants, and camels, and asses;

36 Y Sara, mujer de mi amo, dio a luz en su vejez un hijo a mi señor, quien le ha dado a él todo cuanto tiene.

and Sarah, my lord's wife, beareth a son to my lord, after she hath been aged, and he giveth to him all that he hath.

37 Y mi amo me hizo jurar, diciendo: No tomarás para mi hijo mujer de las hijas de los cananeos, en cuya tierra habito;

`And my lord causeth me to swear, saying, Thou dost not take a wife to my son from the daughters of the Canaanite, in whose land I am dwelling.

38 s ino que irás a la casa de mi padre y a mi parentela, y tomarás mujer para mi hijo.

If not -- unto the house of my father thou dost go, and unto my family, and thou hast taken a wife for my son.

39 Y yo dije: Quizá la mujer no querrá seguirme.

`And I say unto my lord, It may be the woman doth not come after me;

40 E ntonces él me respondió: Jehová, en cuya presencia he andado, enviará su ángel contigo, y prosperará tu camino; y tomarás para mi hijo mujer de mi familia y de la casa de mi padre.

and he saith unto me, Jehovah, before whom I have walked habitually, doth send His messenger with thee, and hath prospered thy way, and thou hast taken a wife for my son from my family, and from the house of my father;

41 E ntonces serás libre de mi juramento, cuando hayas llegado a mi familia; y si no te la dieren, serás libre de mi juramento.

then art thou acquitted from my oath, when thou comest unto my family, and if they give not to thee; then thou hast been acquitted from my oath.

42 L legué, pues, hoy a la fuente, y dije: Jehová, Dios de mi señor Abraham, si tú prosperas ahora mi camino por el cual ando,

`And I come to-day unto the fountain, and I say, Jehovah, God of my lord Abraham, if Thou art, I pray Thee, making prosperous my way in which I am going --

43 h e aquí yo estoy junto a la fuente de agua; sea, pues, que la doncella que saliere por agua, a la cual dijere: Dame de beber, te ruego, un poco de agua de tu cántaro,

(lo, I am standing by the fountain of water), then the virgin who is coming out to draw, and I have said unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee, a little water from thy pitcher,

44 y ella me respondiere: Bebe tú, y también para tus camellos sacaré agua; sea ésta la mujer que destinó Jehová para el hijo de mi señor.

and she hath said unto me, Both drink thou, and also for thy camels I draw -- she is the woman whom Jehovah hath decided for my lord's son.

45 A ntes que acabase de hablar en mi corazón, he aquí Rebeca, que salía con su cántaro sobre su hombro; y descendió a la fuente, y sacó agua; y le dije: Te ruego que me des de beber.

`Before I finish speaking unto my heart, then lo, Rebekah is coming out, and her pitcher on her shoulder, and she goeth down to the fountain, and draweth; and I say unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee,

46 Y bajó prontamente su cántaro de encima de sí, y dijo: Bebe, y también a tus camellos daré de beber. Y bebí, y dio también de beber a mis camellos.

and she hasteth and letteth down her pitcher from off her and saith, Drink, and thy camels also I water; and I drink, and the camels also she hath watered.

47 E ntonces le pregunté, y dije: ¿De quién eres hija? Y ella respondió: Hija de Betuel hijo de Nacor, que le dio a luz Milca. Entonces le puse un pendiente en su nariz, y brazaletes en sus brazos;

`And I ask her, and say, Whose daughter thou? and she saith, Daughter of Bethuel, son of Nahor, whom Milcah hath borne to him, and I put the ring on her nose, and the bracelets on her hands,

48 y me incliné y adoré a Jehová, y bendije a Jehová Dios de mi señor Abraham, que me había guiado por camino de verdad para tomar la hija del hermano de mi señor para su hijo.

and I bow, and do obeisance before Jehovah, and I bless Jehovah, God of my lord Abraham, who hath led me in the true way to receive the daughter of my lord's brother for his son.

49 A hora, pues, si vosotros hacéis misericordia y verdad con mi señor, declarádmelo; y si no, declarádmelo; y me iré a la diestra o a la siniestra.

`And now, if ye are dealing kindly and truly with my lord, declare to me; and if not, declare to me; and I turn unto the right or unto the left.'

50 E ntonces Labán y Betuel respondieron y dijeron: De Jehová ha salido esto; no podemos hablarte malo ni bueno.

And Laban answereth -- Bethuel also -- and they say, `The thing hath gone out from Jehovah; we are not able to speak unto thee bad or good;

51 H e ahí Rebeca delante de ti; tómala y vete, y sea mujer del hijo de tu señor, como lo ha dicho Jehová.

lo, Rebekah before thee, take and go, and she is a wife to thy lord's son, as Jehovah hath spoken.'

52 C uando el criado de Abraham oyó sus palabras, se inclinó en tierra ante Jehová.

And it cometh to pass, when the servant of Abraham hath heard their words, that he boweth himself towards the earth before Jehovah;

53 Y sacó el criado alhajas de plata y alhajas de oro, y vestidos, y dio a Rebeca; también dio cosas preciosas a su hermano y a su madre.

and the servant taketh out vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and garments, and giveth to Rebekah; precious things also he hath given to her brother and to her mother.

54 Y comieron y bebieron él y los varones que venían con él, y durmieron; y levantándose de mañana, dijo: Enviadme a mi señor.

And they eat and drink, he and the men who with him, and lodge all night; and they rise in the morning, and he saith, `Send me to my lord;'

55 E ntonces respondieron su hermano y su madre: Espere la doncella con nosotros a lo menos diez días, y después irá.

and her brother saith -- her mother also -- `Let the young person abide with us a week or ten days, afterwards doth she go.'

56 Y él les dijo: No me detengáis, ya que Jehová ha prosperado mi camino; despachadme para que me vaya a mi señor.

And he saith unto them, `Do not delay me, seeing Jehovah hath prospered my way; send me away, and I go to my lord;'

57 E llos respondieron entonces: Llamemos a la doncella y preguntémosle.

and they say, `Let us call for the young person, and ask at her mouth;'

58 Y llamaron a Rebeca, y le dijeron: ¿Irás tú con este varón? Y ella respondió: Sí, iré.

and they call for Rebekah, and say unto her, `Dost thou go with this man?' and she saith, `I go.'

59 E ntonces dejaron ir a Rebeca su hermana, y a su nodriza, y al criado de Abraham y a sus hombres.

And they send away Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham's servant, and his men;

60 Y bendijeron a Rebeca, y le dijeron: Hermana nuestra, sé madre de millares de millares, y posean tus descendientes la puerta de sus enemigos.

and they bless Rebekah, and say to her, `Thou our sister; become thou thousands of myriads, and thy seed doth possess the gate of those hating it.'

61 E ntonces se levantó Rebeca y sus doncellas, y montaron en los camellos, y siguieron al hombre; y el criado tomó a Rebeca, y se fue.

And Rebekah and her young women arise, and ride on the camels, and go after the man; and the servant taketh Rebekah and goeth.

62 Y venía Isaac del pozo del Viviente-que-me-ve; porque él habitaba en el Neguev.

And Isaac hath come in from the entrance of the Well of the Living One, my Beholder; and he is dwelling in the land of the south,

63 Y había salido Isaac a meditar al campo, a la hora de la tarde; y alzando sus ojos miró, y he aquí los camellos que venían.

and Isaac goeth out to meditate in the field, at the turning of the evening, and he lifteth up his eyes, and looketh, and lo, camels are coming.

64 R ebeca también alzó sus ojos, y vio a Isaac, y descendió del camello;

And Rebekah lifteth up her eyes, and seeth Isaac, and alighteth from off the camel;

65 p orque había preguntado al criado: ¿Quién es este varón que viene por el campo hacia nosotros? Y el criado había respondido: Este es mi señor. Ella entonces tomó el velo, y se cubrió.

and she saith unto the servant, `Who this man who is walking in the field to meet us?' and the servant saith, `It my lord;' and she taketh the veil, and covereth herself.

66 E ntonces el criado contó a Isaac todo lo que había hecho.

And the servant recounteth to Isaac all the things that he hath done,

67 Y la trajo Isaac a la tienda de su madre Sara, y tomó a Rebeca por mujer, y la amó; y se consoló Isaac después de la muerte de su madre.

and Isaac bringeth her in unto the tent of Sarah his mother, and he taketh Rebekah, and she becometh his wife, and he loveth her, and Isaac is comforted after his mother.
