1 A nd Abraham old, he hath entered into days, and Jehovah hath blessed Abraham in all;

Era Abraham ya viejo, y bien avanzado en años; y Jehová había bendecido a Abraham en todo.

2 a nd Abraham saith unto his servant, the eldest of his house, who is ruling over all that he hath, `Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh,

Y dijo Abraham a un criado suyo, el más viejo de su casa, que era el que gobernaba en todo lo que tenía: Pon ahora tu mano debajo de mi muslo,

3 a nd I cause thee to swear by Jehovah, God of the heavens, and God of the earth, that thou dost not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanite, in the midst of whom I am dwelling;

y te juramentaré por Jehová, Dios de los cielos y Dios de la tierra, que no tomarás para mi hijo mujer de las hijas de los cananeos, entre los cuales yo habito;

4 b ut unto my land and unto my kindred dost thou go, and hast taken a wife for my son, for Isaac.'

sino que irás a mi tierra y a mi parentela, y tomarás mujer para mi hijo Isaac.

5 A nd the servant saith unto him, `It may be the woman is not willing to come after me unto this land; do I at all cause thy son to turn back unto the land from whence thou camest out?'

El criado le respondió: Quizá la mujer no querrá venir en pos de mí a esta tierra. ¿Volveré, pues, tu hijo a la tierra de donde saliste?

6 A nd Abraham saith unto him, `Take heed to thyself, lest thou cause my son to turn back thither;

Y Abraham le dijo: Guárdate que no vuelvas a mi hijo allá.

7 J ehovah, God of the heavens, who hath taken me from the house of my father, and from the land of my birth, and who hath spoken to me, and who hath sworn to me, saying, To thy seed I give this land, He doth send His messenger before thee, and thou hast taken a wife for my son from thence;

Jehová, Dios de los cielos, que me tomó de la casa de mi padre y de la tierra de mi parentela, y me habló y me juró, diciendo: A tu descendencia daré esta tierra; él enviará su ángel delante de ti, y tú traerás de allá mujer para mi hijo.

8 a nd if the woman be not willing to come after thee, then thou hast been acquitted from this mine oath: only my son thou dost not cause to turn back thither.'

Y si la mujer no quisiere venir en pos de ti, serás libre de este mi juramento; solamente que no vuelvas allá a mi hijo.

9 A nd the servant putteth his hand under the thigh of Abraham his lord, and sweareth to him concerning this matter.

Entonces el criado puso su mano debajo del muslo de Abraham su señor, y le juró sobre este negocio.

10 A nd the servant taketh ten camels of the camels of his lord and goeth, also of all the goods of his lord in his hand, and he riseth, and goeth unto Aram-Naharaim, unto the city of Nahor;

Y el criado tomó diez camellos de los camellos de su señor, y se fue, tomando toda clase de regalos escogidos de su señor; y puesto en camino, llegó a Mesopotamia, a la ciudad de Nacor.

11 a nd he causeth the camels to kneel at the outside of the city, at the well of water, at even-time, at the time of the coming out of the women who draw water.

E hizo arrodillar los camellos fuera de la ciudad, junto a un pozo de agua, a la hora de la tarde, la hora en que salen las doncellas por agua.

12 A nd he saith, `Jehovah, God of my lord Abraham, cause to meet, I pray Thee, before me this day -- (and do kindness with my lord Abraham;

Y dijo: Oh Jehová, Dios de mi señor Abraham, dame, te ruego, el tener hoy buen encuentro, y haz misericordia con mi señor Abraham.

13 l o, I am standing by the fountain of water, and daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water;

He aquí yo estoy junto a la fuente de agua, y las hijas de los varones de esta ciudad salen por agua.

14 a nd it hath been, the young person unto whom I say, Incline, I pray thee, thy pitcher, and I drink, and she hath said, Drink, and I water also thy camels) -- her Thou hast decided for Thy servant, for Isaac; and by it I know that Thou hast done kindness with my lord.'

Sea, pues, que la doncella a quien yo dijere: Baja tu cántaro, te ruego, para que yo beba, y ella respondiere: Bebe, y también daré de beber a tus camellos; que sea ésta la que tú has destinado para tu siervo Isaac; y en esto conoceré que habrás hecho misericordia con mi señor.

15 A nd it cometh to pass, before he hath finished speaking, that lo, Rebekah (who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, wife of Nahor, brother of Abraham) is coming out, and her pitcher on her shoulder,

Y aconteció que antes que él acabase de hablar, he aquí Rebeca, que había nacido a Betuel, hijo de Milca mujer de Nacor hermano de Abraham, la cual salía con su cántaro sobre su hombro.

16 a nd the young person of very good appearance, a virgin, and a man hath not known her; and she goeth down to the fountain, and filleth her pitcher, and cometh up.

Y la doncella era de aspecto muy hermoso, virgen, a la que varón no había conocido; la cual descendió a la fuente, y llenó su cántaro, y se volvía.

17 A nd the servant runneth to meet her, and saith, `Let me swallow, I pray thee, a little water from thy pitcher;'

Entonces el criado corrió hacia ella, y dijo: Te ruego que me des a beber un poco de agua de tu cántaro.

18 a nd she saith, `Drink, my lord;' and she hasteth, and letteth down her pitcher upon her hand, and giveth him drink.

Ella respondió: Bebe, señor mío; y se dio prisa a bajar su cántaro sobre su mano, y le dio a beber.

19 A nd she finisheth giving him drink, and saith, `Also for thy camels I draw till they have finished drinking;'

Y cuando acabó de darle de beber, dijo: También para tus camellos sacaré agua, hasta que acaben de beber.

20 a nd she hasteth, and emptieth her pitcher into the drinking-trough, and runneth again unto the well to draw, and draweth for all his camels.

Y se dio prisa, y vació su cántaro en la pila, y corrió otra vez al pozo para sacar agua, y sacó para todos sus camellos.

21 A nd the man, wondering at her, remaineth silent, to know whether Jehovah hath made his way prosperous or not.

Y el hombre estaba maravillado de ella, callando, para saber si Jehová había prosperado su viaje, o no.

22 A nd it cometh to pass when the camels have finished drinking, that the man taketh a golden ring (whose weight a bekah), and two bracelets for her hands (whose weight ten of gold),

Y cuando los camellos acabaron de beber, le dio el hombre un pendiente de oro que pesaba medio siclo, y dos brazaletes que pesaban diez,

23 a nd saith, `Whose daughter thou? declare to me, I pray thee, is the house of thy father a place for us to lodge in?'

y dijo: ¿De quién eres hija? Te ruego que me digas: ¿hay en casa de tu padre lugar donde posemos?

24 A nd she saith unto him, `I daughter of Bethuel, son of Milcah, whom she hath borne to Nahor.'

Y ella respondió: Soy hija de Betuel hijo de Milca, el cual ella dio a luz a Nacor.

25 S he saith also unto him, `Both straw and provender abundant with us, also a place to lodge in.'

Y añadió: También hay en nuestra casa paja y mucho forraje, y lugar para posar.

26 A nd the man boweth, and doth obeisance to Jehovah,

El hombre entonces se inclinó, y adoró a Jehová,

27 a nd saith, `Blessed Jehovah, God of my lord Abraham, who hath not left off His kindness and His truth with my lord; -- I in the way, Jehovah hath led me to the house of my lord's brethren.'

y dijo: Bendito sea Jehová, Dios de mi amo Abraham, que no apartó de mi amo su misericordia y su verdad, guiándome Jehová en el camino a casa de los hermanos de mi amo.

28 A nd the young person runneth, and declareth to the house of her mother according to these words.

Y la doncella corrió, e hizo saber en casa de su madre estas cosas.

29 A nd Rebekah hath a brother, and his name Laban, and Laban runneth unto the man who without, unto the fountain;

Y Rebeca tenía un hermano que se llamaba Labán, el cual corrió afuera hacia el hombre, a la fuente.

30 y ea, it cometh to pass, when he seeth the ring, and the bracelets on the hands of his sister, and when he heareth the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, `Thus hath the man spoken unto me,' that he cometh in unto the man, and lo, he is standing by the camels by the fountain.

Y cuando vio el pendiente y los brazaletes en las manos de su hermana, que decía: Así me habló aquel hombre, vino a él; y he aquí que estaba con los camellos junto a la fuente.

31 A nd he saith, `Come in, O blessed one of Jehovah, why standest thou without, and I -- I have prepared the house and place for the camels!'

Y le dijo: Ven, bendito de Jehová; ¿por qué estás fuera? He preparado la casa, y el lugar para los camellos.

32 A nd he bringeth in the man into the house, and looseth the camels, and giveth straw and provender for the camels, and water to wash his feet, and the feet of the men who with him:

Entonces el hombre vino a casa, y Labán desató los camellos; y les dio paja y forraje, y agua para lavar los pies de él, y los pies de los hombres que con él venían.

33 a nd setteth before him to eat; but he saith, `I do not eat till I have spoken my word;' and he saith, `Speak.'

Y le pusieron delante qué comer; mas él dijo: No comeré hasta que haya dicho mi mensaje. Y él le dijo: Habla.

34 A nd he saith, `I Abraham's servant;

Entonces dijo: Yo soy criado de Abraham.

35 a nd Jehovah hath blessed my lord exceedingly, and he is great; and He giveth to him flock, and herd, and silver, and gold, and men-servants, and maid-servants, and camels, and asses;

Y Jehová ha bendecido mucho a mi amo, y él se ha engrandecido; y le ha dado ovejas y vacas, plata y oro, siervos y siervas, camellos y asnos.

36 a nd Sarah, my lord's wife, beareth a son to my lord, after she hath been aged, and he giveth to him all that he hath.

Y Sara, mujer de mi amo, dio a luz en su vejez un hijo a mi señor, quien le ha dado a él todo cuanto tiene.

37 ` And my lord causeth me to swear, saying, Thou dost not take a wife to my son from the daughters of the Canaanite, in whose land I am dwelling.

Y mi amo me hizo jurar, diciendo: No tomarás para mi hijo mujer de las hijas de los cananeos, en cuya tierra habito;

38 I f not -- unto the house of my father thou dost go, and unto my family, and thou hast taken a wife for my son.

sino que irás a la casa de mi padre y a mi parentela, y tomarás mujer para mi hijo.

39 ` And I say unto my lord, It may be the woman doth not come after me;

Y yo dije: Quizá la mujer no querrá seguirme.

40 a nd he saith unto me, Jehovah, before whom I have walked habitually, doth send His messenger with thee, and hath prospered thy way, and thou hast taken a wife for my son from my family, and from the house of my father;

Entonces él me respondió: Jehová, en cuya presencia he andado, enviará su ángel contigo, y prosperará tu camino; y tomarás para mi hijo mujer de mi familia y de la casa de mi padre.

41 t hen art thou acquitted from my oath, when thou comest unto my family, and if they give not to thee; then thou hast been acquitted from my oath.

Entonces serás libre de mi juramento, cuando hayas llegado a mi familia; y si no te la dieren, serás libre de mi juramento.

42 ` And I come to-day unto the fountain, and I say, Jehovah, God of my lord Abraham, if Thou art, I pray Thee, making prosperous my way in which I am going --

Llegué, pues, hoy a la fuente, y dije: Jehová, Dios de mi señor Abraham, si tú prosperas ahora mi camino por el cual ando,

43 ( lo, I am standing by the fountain of water), then the virgin who is coming out to draw, and I have said unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee, a little water from thy pitcher,

he aquí yo estoy junto a la fuente de agua; sea, pues, que la doncella que saliere por agua, a la cual dijere: Dame de beber, te ruego, un poco de agua de tu cántaro,

44 a nd she hath said unto me, Both drink thou, and also for thy camels I draw -- she is the woman whom Jehovah hath decided for my lord's son.

y ella me respondiere: Bebe tú, y también para tus camellos sacaré agua; sea ésta la mujer que destinó Jehová para el hijo de mi señor.

45 ` Before I finish speaking unto my heart, then lo, Rebekah is coming out, and her pitcher on her shoulder, and she goeth down to the fountain, and draweth; and I say unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee,

Antes que acabase de hablar en mi corazón, he aquí Rebeca, que salía con su cántaro sobre su hombro; y descendió a la fuente, y sacó agua; y le dije: Te ruego que me des de beber.

46 a nd she hasteth and letteth down her pitcher from off her and saith, Drink, and thy camels also I water; and I drink, and the camels also she hath watered.

Y bajó prontamente su cántaro de encima de sí, y dijo: Bebe, y también a tus camellos daré de beber. Y bebí, y dio también de beber a mis camellos.

47 ` And I ask her, and say, Whose daughter thou? and she saith, Daughter of Bethuel, son of Nahor, whom Milcah hath borne to him, and I put the ring on her nose, and the bracelets on her hands,

Entonces le pregunté, y dije: ¿De quién eres hija? Y ella respondió: Hija de Betuel hijo de Nacor, que le dio a luz Milca. Entonces le puse un pendiente en su nariz, y brazaletes en sus brazos;

48 a nd I bow, and do obeisance before Jehovah, and I bless Jehovah, God of my lord Abraham, who hath led me in the true way to receive the daughter of my lord's brother for his son.

y me incliné y adoré a Jehová, y bendije a Jehová Dios de mi señor Abraham, que me había guiado por camino de verdad para tomar la hija del hermano de mi señor para su hijo.

49 ` And now, if ye are dealing kindly and truly with my lord, declare to me; and if not, declare to me; and I turn unto the right or unto the left.'

Ahora, pues, si vosotros hacéis misericordia y verdad con mi señor, declarádmelo; y si no, declarádmelo; y me iré a la diestra o a la siniestra.

50 A nd Laban answereth -- Bethuel also -- and they say, `The thing hath gone out from Jehovah; we are not able to speak unto thee bad or good;

Entonces Labán y Betuel respondieron y dijeron: De Jehová ha salido esto; no podemos hablarte malo ni bueno.

51 l o, Rebekah before thee, take and go, and she is a wife to thy lord's son, as Jehovah hath spoken.'

He ahí Rebeca delante de ti; tómala y vete, y sea mujer del hijo de tu señor, como lo ha dicho Jehová.

52 A nd it cometh to pass, when the servant of Abraham hath heard their words, that he boweth himself towards the earth before Jehovah;

Cuando el criado de Abraham oyó sus palabras, se inclinó en tierra ante Jehová.

53 a nd the servant taketh out vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and garments, and giveth to Rebekah; precious things also he hath given to her brother and to her mother.

Y sacó el criado alhajas de plata y alhajas de oro, y vestidos, y dio a Rebeca; también dio cosas preciosas a su hermano y a su madre.

54 A nd they eat and drink, he and the men who with him, and lodge all night; and they rise in the morning, and he saith, `Send me to my lord;'

Y comieron y bebieron él y los varones que venían con él, y durmieron; y levantándose de mañana, dijo: Enviadme a mi señor.

55 a nd her brother saith -- her mother also -- `Let the young person abide with us a week or ten days, afterwards doth she go.'

Entonces respondieron su hermano y su madre: Espere la doncella con nosotros a lo menos diez días, y después irá.

56 A nd he saith unto them, `Do not delay me, seeing Jehovah hath prospered my way; send me away, and I go to my lord;'

Y él les dijo: No me detengáis, ya que Jehová ha prosperado mi camino; despachadme para que me vaya a mi señor.

57 a nd they say, `Let us call for the young person, and ask at her mouth;'

Ellos respondieron entonces: Llamemos a la doncella y preguntémosle.

58 a nd they call for Rebekah, and say unto her, `Dost thou go with this man?' and she saith, `I go.'

Y llamaron a Rebeca, y le dijeron: ¿Irás tú con este varón? Y ella respondió: Sí, iré.

59 A nd they send away Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham's servant, and his men;

Entonces dejaron ir a Rebeca su hermana, y a su nodriza, y al criado de Abraham y a sus hombres.

60 a nd they bless Rebekah, and say to her, `Thou our sister; become thou thousands of myriads, and thy seed doth possess the gate of those hating it.'

Y bendijeron a Rebeca, y le dijeron: Hermana nuestra, sé madre de millares de millares, y posean tus descendientes la puerta de sus enemigos.

61 A nd Rebekah and her young women arise, and ride on the camels, and go after the man; and the servant taketh Rebekah and goeth.

Entonces se levantó Rebeca y sus doncellas, y montaron en los camellos, y siguieron al hombre; y el criado tomó a Rebeca, y se fue.

62 A nd Isaac hath come in from the entrance of the Well of the Living One, my Beholder; and he is dwelling in the land of the south,

Y venía Isaac del pozo del Viviente-que-me-ve; porque él habitaba en el Neguev.

63 a nd Isaac goeth out to meditate in the field, at the turning of the evening, and he lifteth up his eyes, and looketh, and lo, camels are coming.

Y había salido Isaac a meditar al campo, a la hora de la tarde; y alzando sus ojos miró, y he aquí los camellos que venían.

64 A nd Rebekah lifteth up her eyes, and seeth Isaac, and alighteth from off the camel;

Rebeca también alzó sus ojos, y vio a Isaac, y descendió del camello;

65 a nd she saith unto the servant, `Who this man who is walking in the field to meet us?' and the servant saith, `It my lord;' and she taketh the veil, and covereth herself.

porque había preguntado al criado: ¿Quién es este varón que viene por el campo hacia nosotros? Y el criado había respondido: Este es mi señor. Ella entonces tomó el velo, y se cubrió.

66 A nd the servant recounteth to Isaac all the things that he hath done,

Entonces el criado contó a Isaac todo lo que había hecho.

67 a nd Isaac bringeth her in unto the tent of Sarah his mother, and he taketh Rebekah, and she becometh his wife, and he loveth her, and Isaac is comforted after his mother.

Y la trajo Isaac a la tienda de su madre Sara, y tomó a Rebeca por mujer, y la amó; y se consoló Isaac después de la muerte de su madre.
