1 A nd Elihu answereth and saith:

2 H ear, O wise men, my words, And, O knowing ones, give ear to me.

Oíd, sabios, mis palabras; Y vosotros, doctos, estadme atentos.

3 F or the ear doth try words, And the palate tasteth to eat.

Porque el oído prueba las palabras, Como el paladar gusta lo que uno come.

4 J udgment let us choose for ourselves, Let us know among ourselves what good.

Escojamos para nosotros el juicio, Conozcamos entre nosotros cuál sea lo bueno.

5 F or Job hath said, `I have been righteous, And God hath turned aside my right,

Porque Job ha dicho: Yo soy justo, Y Dios me ha quitado mi derecho.

6 A gainst my right do I lie? Mortal mine arrow -- without transgression.'

¿He de mentir yo contra mi razón? Dolorosa es mi herida sin haber hecho yo transgresión.

7 W ho a man like Job? He drinketh scoffing like water,

¿Qué hombre hay como Job, Que bebe el escarnio como agua,

8 A nd he hath travelled for company With workers of iniquity, So as to go with men of wickedness.

Y va en compañía con los que hacen iniquidad, Y anda con los hombres malos?

9 F or he hath said, `It doth not profit a man, When he delighteth himself with God.'

Porque ha dicho: De nada servirá al hombre El conformar su voluntad a Dios.

10 T herefore, O men of heart, hearken to me; Far be it from God to do wickedness, And the Mighty to do perverseness:

Por tanto, varones de inteligencia, oídme: Lejos esté de Dios la impiedad, Y del Omnipotente la iniquidad.

11 F or the work of man he repayeth to him, And according to the path of each He doth cause him to find.

Porque él pagará al hombre según su obra, Y le retribuirá conforme a su camino.

12 Y ea, truly, God doth not do wickedly, And the Mighty doth not pervert judgment.

Sí, por cierto, Dios no hará injusticia, Y el Omnipotente no pervertirá el derecho.

13 W ho hath inspected for Himself the earth? And who hath placed all the habitable world?

¿Quién visitó por él la tierra? ¿Y quién puso en orden todo el mundo?

14 I f He doth set on him His heart, His spirit and his breath unto Him He gathereth.

Si él pusiese sobre el hombre su corazón, Y recogiese así su espíritu y su aliento,

15 E xpire doth all flesh together, And man to dust returneth.

Toda carne perecería juntamente, Y el hombre volvería al polvo.

16 A nd if understanding, hear this, Give ear to the voice of my words.

Si, pues, hay en ti entendimiento, oye esto; Escucha la voz de mis palabras.

17 Y ea, doth one hating justice govern? Or the Most Just dost thou condemn?

¿Gobernará el que aborrece juicio? ¿Y condenarás tú al que es tan justo?

18 W ho hath said to a king -- `Worthless,' Unto princes -- `Wicked?'

¿Se dirá al rey: Perverso; Y a los príncipes: Impíos?

19 T hat hath not accepted the person of princes, Nor hath known the rich before the poor, For a work of His hands all of them.

¿Cuánto menos a aquel que no hace acepción de personas de príncipes. Ni respeta más al rico que al pobre, Porque todos son obra de sus manos?

20 a moment they die, and at midnight Shake do people, and they pass away, And they remove the mighty without hand.

En un momento morirán, Y a medianoche se alborotarán los pueblos, y pasarán, Y sin mano será quitado el poderoso.

21 F or His eyes on the ways of each, And all his steps He doth see.

Porque sus ojos están sobre los caminos del hombre, Y ve todos sus pasos.

22 T here is no darkness nor death-shade, For workers of iniquity to be hidden there;

No hay tinieblas ni sombra de muerte Donde se escondan los que hacen maldad.

23 F or He doth not suffer man any more, To go unto God in judgment,

No carga, pues, él al hombre más de lo justo, Para que vaya con Dios a juicio.

24 H e breaketh the mighty -- no searching! And He appointeth others in their stead.

El quebrantará a los fuertes sin indagación, Y hará estar a otros en su lugar.

25 T herefore He knoweth their works, And He hath overturned by night, And they are bruised.

Por tanto, él hará notorias las obras de ellos, Cuando los trastorne en la noche, y sean quebrantados.

26 A s wicked He hath stricken them, In the place of beholders.

Como a malos los herirá En lugar donde sean vistos;

27 B ecause that against right They have turned aside from after Him, And none of His ways have considered wisely,

Por cuanto así se apartaron de él, Y no consideraron ninguno de sus caminos,

28 T o cause to come in unto Him The cry of the poor, And the cry of the afflicted He heareth.

Haciendo venir delante de él el clamor del pobre, Y que oiga el clamor de los necesitados.

29 A nd He giveth rest, and who maketh wrong? And hideth the face, and who beholdeth it? And in reference to a nation and to a man, the same.

Si él diere reposo, ¿quién inquietará? Si escondiere el rostro, ¿quién lo mirará? Esto sobre una nación, y lo mismo sobre un hombre;

30 F rom the reigning of a profane man, From the snares of a people;

Haciendo que no reine el hombre impío Para vejaciones del pueblo.

31 F or unto God hath any said: `I have taken away, I do not corruptly,

De seguro conviene que se diga a Dios: He llevado ya castigo, no ofenderé ya más;

32 B esides I see, shew Thou me, If iniquity I have done -- I do not add?'

Enséñame tú lo que yo no veo; Si hice mal, no lo haré más.

33 B y thee doth He recompense, That thou hast refused -- That thou dost choose, and not I? And what thou hast known, speak.

¿Ha de ser eso según tu parecer? El te retribuirá, ora rehúses, ora aceptes, y no yo; Di, si no, lo que tú sabes.

34 L et men of heart say to me, And a wise man is hearkening to me.

Los hombres inteligentes dirán conmigo, Y el hombre sabio que me oiga:

35 J ob -- not with knowledge doth he speak, And his words not with wisdom.

Que Job no habla con sabiduría, Y que sus palabras no son con entendimiento.

36 M y Father! let Job be tried -- unto victory, Because of answers for men of iniquity,

Deseo yo que Job sea probado ampliamente, A causa de sus respuestas semejantes a las de los hombres inicuos.

37 F or he doth add to his sin, Transgression among us he vomiteth, And multiplieth his sayings to God.

Porque a su pecado añadió rebeldía; Bate palmas contra nosotros, Y contra Dios multiplica sus palabras.
