1 A nd Elihu answereth and saith:

ثُمَّ تابَعَ ألِيهُو فَقالَ:

2 H ear, O wise men, my words, And, O knowing ones, give ear to me.

«استَمِعُوا أيُّها الحُكَماءُ إلَى كَلامِي، وَأصغُوا إلَيَّ يا أصحابَ المَعرِفَةِ.

3 F or the ear doth try words, And the palate tasteth to eat.

لأنَّ الأُذُنَ تَتَفَحَّصُ الكَلامَ، كَما يَذُوقُ اللِّسانُ الطَعامَ.

4 J udgment let us choose for ourselves, Let us know among ourselves what good.

فَلْنُقَرِّرْ لِأنفُسَنا ما هُوَ العَدلُ، وَلِنَكْتَشِفْ مَعاً ما هُوَ صالِحٌ.

5 F or Job hath said, `I have been righteous, And God hath turned aside my right,

لأنَّ أيُّوبَ يَقُولُ: ‹أنا بَرِيءٌ، وَقَد ظَلَمَنِي القَدِيرُ.

6 A gainst my right do I lie? Mortal mine arrow -- without transgression.'

أُدعَى كاذِباً رُغْمَ حَقِّي. وَلا شِفاءَ لِجُرحِي مَعَ أنِّي لَمْ أقتَرِفْ ذَنباً.›

7 W ho a man like Job? He drinketh scoffing like water,

«فَأيُّ إنسانٍ كَأيُّوبَ؟ يَشرَبُ السُّخْرِيَةَ كَالماءِ!

8 A nd he hath travelled for company With workers of iniquity, So as to go with men of wickedness.

وَيَسلُكُ طَرِيقاً لِيَنضَمَّ إلَى فاعِلِي الشَّرِّ، وَيُرافِقُ المُجرِمِينَ.

9 F or he hath said, `It doth not profit a man, When he delighteth himself with God.'

لأنَّهُ يَقُولُ: ‹لا فائِدَةَ مِنْ أنْ يُحاوِلَ الإنسانُ إرضاءَ اللهِ.›

10 T herefore, O men of heart, hearken to me; Far be it from God to do wickedness, And the Mighty to do perverseness:

«لِهَذا اسْمَعُونِي يا أصحابَ الفَهْمِ. حاشا أنْ يَرتَبِطَ اللهُ بِذَنبٍ، وَأنْ تَكُونَ لِلقَدِيرِ عَلاقَةٌ بِالشَّرِّ.

11 F or the work of man he repayeth to him, And according to the path of each He doth cause him to find.

لأنَّ اللهَ يُعطِي الإنسانَ أُجرَةَ أعمالِهِ، وَيَجلُبُ عَلَيهِ ما يَستَحِقُّهُ.

12 Y ea, truly, God doth not do wickedly, And the Mighty doth not pervert judgment.

وَحاشا للهِ أنْ يَحكُمَ عَلَى النّاسِ ظُلماً، وَللِقَدِيرِ أنْ يَعمَلَ بِغَيرِ عَدلٍ.

13 W ho hath inspected for Himself the earth? And who hath placed all the habitable world?

فَمَنِ الَّذِي أوْكَلَهُ عَلَى الأرْضِ؟ وَمَن عَيَّنَهُ عَلَى كُلِّ الكَوْنِ؟

14 I f He doth set on him His heart, His spirit and his breath unto Him He gathereth.

إذا قَرَّرَ أنْ يَستَرِدَّ رُوحَهُ وَيَستَعِيدَ نَسَمَةَ الحَياةِ،

15 E xpire doth all flesh together, And man to dust returneth.

فَسَيَمُوتُ كُلُّ جَسَدٍ عَلَى الأرْضِ. وَيَعُودُ الإنْسانُ إلَى التُّرابِ.

16 A nd if understanding, hear this, Give ear to the voice of my words.

«إنْ كانَ لَكَ فَهْمٌ فَاسْمَعْ هَذا، اسْتَمِعْ إلَى كَلامِي:

17 Y ea, doth one hating justice govern? Or the Most Just dost thou condemn?

إنْ كانَ القَدِيرُ يُبْغِضُ العَدلَ، فَكَيفَ يَحْكُمُ؟ وَإنْ كُنْتَ بارّاً، فَلِماذا تَدينُ القَدِيرَ؟

18 W ho hath said to a king -- `Worthless,' Unto princes -- `Wicked?'

هُوَ الَّذِي يَقُولُ لِلمَلِكِ: ‹أنتَ بِلا قِيمَةٍ.› وَللِشَّرِيفِ: ‹أنتَ شِرِّيرٌ.›

19 T hat hath not accepted the person of princes, Nor hath known the rich before the poor, For a work of His hands all of them.

هُوَ اللهُ الَّذِي لا يُفَرِّقُ بَينَ النّاسِ، وَلا يَسمَعُ طِلْباتِ الغَنِيِّ قَبلَ الفَقِيرِ، لأنَّ كِلَيْهِما عَمَلُ يَدَيهِ.

20 a moment they die, and at midnight Shake do people, and they pass away, And they remove the mighty without hand.

يُمُوتانِ فِي لَحظَةٍ، فِي مُنتَصَفِ اللَّيلِ. يَرتَجِفُ النّاسُ وَيَمُوتُونَ. يُطِيحُ اللهُ بِالأقوِياءِ بِلا جَهْدٍ.

21 F or His eyes on the ways of each, And all his steps He doth see.

«لأنَّ عَينَيْهِ تُراقِبانِ طُرُقَ الإنسانِ وَيَرَى كُلَّ خَطَواتِهِ.

22 T here is no darkness nor death-shade, For workers of iniquity to be hidden there;

ما مِنْ عَتْمَةٍ أوْ حَتَّى ظَلامٍ عَمِيقٍ، يُمكِنُ أنْ يَختَفِي فِيها فاعِلُو الشَّرِّ عَنِ اللهِ.

23 F or He doth not suffer man any more, To go unto God in judgment,

وَلَيسَ لِلإنسانِ أنْ يُحَدِّدَ مَوعِداً فِيهِ يَأتِي فِي حَضْرَةِ اللهِ للِدَّينُونَةِ.

24 H e breaketh the mighty -- no searching! And He appointeth others in their stead.

يُحَطِّمُ الأقوِياءَ وَلا يَسألُ أحَداً. وَيُعَيِّنُ آخَرِينَ مَكانَهُمْ.

25 T herefore He knoweth their works, And He hath overturned by night, And they are bruised.

إنَّهُ يَعرِفُ أفعالَهُمْ حَقّاً، يَسحَقُهُمْ فِي لَيلَةٍ واحِدَةٍ.

26 A s wicked He hath stricken them, In the place of beholders.

يُعاقِبُهُمْ عَلَى أعمالِهِمِ الشِّرِّيرَةِ فِي العَلَنِ،

27 B ecause that against right They have turned aside from after Him, And none of His ways have considered wisely,

لأنَّهُمْ لَمْ يَعُودُوا يَتْبَعُونَ اللهَ، وَلا يَلتَفِتُونَ إلَى طُرُقِهِ،

28 T o cause to come in unto Him The cry of the poor, And the cry of the afflicted He heareth.

حَتَّى جَعَلُوا صُراخَ الفَقِيرِ يَصِلُ إلَيْهِ. هُوَ يَسمَعُ صَرخَةَ المُضْطَهَدِينَ.

29 A nd He giveth rest, and who maketh wrong? And hideth the face, and who beholdeth it? And in reference to a nation and to a man, the same.

فَإنْ لَمْ يَفعَلْ شَيئاً، فَمَنْ يَستَذنِبهُ؟ وَإذا حَجَبَ وَجهَهُ، فَمَنْ يَقْدِرُ أنْ يَراهُ – أكانَ شَعباً أمْ فَرْداً؟

30 F rom the reigning of a profane man, From the snares of a people;

يَمنَعَ الفاسِدَ مِنْ أنْ يَصِيرَ مَلِكاً، فَيَقُودَ شَعباً إلَى الدَّمارِ.

31 F or unto God hath any said: `I have taken away, I do not corruptly,

«لَكِنْ قُلْ للهِ، ‹أذنَبتُ، وَلَنْ أنْحَرِفَ ثانِيَةً.

32 B esides I see, shew Thou me, If iniquity I have done -- I do not add?'

عَلِّمْنِي ما لا أقدِرُ أنْ أراهُ. إنْ أخطَأتُ، فَلَنْ أعُودَ إلَيهِ.›

33 B y thee doth He recompense, That thou hast refused -- That thou dost choose, and not I? And what thou hast known, speak.

فَهَلْ يُجازِيكَ اللهُ حَسَبَ قَولِكَ إذا رَفَضتَ حَقَّهُ؟ لأنَّكَ أنتَ الَّذِي يَختارُ، لا أنا. فَتَكَلَّمْ بِما تَعرِفُ.

34 L et men of heart say to me, And a wise man is hearkening to me.

سَيَقُولُ لِي أصحابُ الفَهْمِ وَالحَكِيمُ الَّذِي يَسمَعُنِي:

35 J ob -- not with knowledge doth he speak, And his words not with wisdom.

‹يَتَحَدَّثُ أيُّوبُ بِلا فِهمٍ، وَكَلامُهُ يَخلو مِنَ البَصِيرَةِ.›

36 M y Father! let Job be tried -- unto victory, Because of answers for men of iniquity,

لَيتَ أيُّوبَ يُجَرَّبُ إلَى آخِرِ حَدٍّ، لأنَّهُ يُجِيبُ كَالأشرارِ.

37 F or he doth add to his sin, Transgression among us he vomiteth, And multiplieth his sayings to God.

فَهُوَ يُضِيفُ إلَى خَطِيَّتِهِ خَطِيَّةً. يَزِيدُ الشَّرَّ بَينَنا، وَيَكثِّرُ اتِّهاماتِهِ للهِ.»
