1 A nd he heareth the words of Laban's sons, saying, `Jacob hath taken all that our father hath; yea, from that which our father hath, he hath made all this honour;'

وَسَمِعَ يَعقُوبُ ما قالَهُ أبْناءُ لابانَ: «لَقَدِ اسْتَولَى يَعقُوبُ عَلَى كُلِّ ما كانَ لِأبِينا. وَجَمَعَ كُلَّ ثَرْوَتِهِ مِمّا كانَ لِأبِينا.»

2 a nd Jacob seeth the face of Laban, and lo, it is not with him as heretofore.

وَلاحَظَ يَعقُوبُ أنَّ نَظْرَةَ لابانَ إلَيهِ لَمْ تَعُدْ كَما كانَتْ فِي السّابِقِ.

3 A nd Jehovah saith unto Jacob, `Turn back unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred, and I am with thee.'

فَقالَ اللهُ لِيَعقُوبَ: «عُدْ إلَى أرْضِ آبائِكَ وَأهلِكَ. وَسَأكُونُ مَعَكَ.»

4 A nd Jacob sendeth and calleth for Rachel and for Leah to the field unto his flock;

فَأرْسَلَ يَعقُوبُ فِي طَلَبِ راحِيلَ وَلَيئَةَ وَدَعاهُما إلَى الحَقلِ حَيثُ قُطْعانُهُ.

5 a nd saith to them, `I am beholding your father's face -- that it is not towards me as heretofore, and the God of my father hath been with me,

وَقالَ لَهُما: «لاحَظْتُ أنَّ نَظْرَةَ أبِيكُما إلَيَّ لَمْ تَعُدْ كَما فِي السّابِقِ. وَلَكِنَّ إلَهَ أبِي كانَ وَما يَزالُ مَعِي.

6 a nd ye -- ye have known that with all my power I have served your father,

أنتُما تَعْرِفانِ أنِّي خَدَمْتُ أباكُما بِكُلِّ قُوَّتِي،

7 a nd your father hath played upon me, and hath changed my hire ten times; and God hath not suffered him to do evil with me.

وَهُوَ غَشَّنِي وَغَيَّرَ أجرِيَ عَشَرَ مَرّاتٍ. لَكِنَّ اللهَ لَمْ يَسمَحْ لَهُ بِأنْ يُؤْذِيَنِي.

8 ` If he say thus: The speckled are thy hire, then bare all the flock speckled ones; and if he say thus: The ring-straked are thy hire, then bare all the flock ring-straked;

«فَإنْ قالَ لابانُ: ‹المَواشِي المُرَقَّطَةُ سَتَكُونُ أجرَكَ،› حِينَئِذٍ، كانَتْ كُلُّ القُطْعانِ تَلِدُ صِغاراً مُرَقَّطَةً. وَإنْ قالَ: ‹المَواشِي المُخَطَّطَةُ سَتَكُونُ أجرَكَ.› حِينَئِذٍ، كانَتْ كُلُّ القُطْعانِ تَلِدُ صِغاراً مُخَطَّطَةً.

9 a nd God taketh away the substance of your father, and doth give to me.

فَنَزَعَ اللهُ مَواشِيَ أبِيكُما وَأعطاها لِي.

10 ` And it cometh to pass at the time of the flock conceiving, that I lift up mine eyes and see in a dream, and lo, the he-goats, which are going up on the flock, ring-straked, speckled, and grisled;

«وَفِي وَقْتِ تَزاوُجِ القَطِيعِ، رَفَعْتُ نَظَرِي وَرَأيتُ حُلْماً. رَأيتُ أنَّ التُّيُوسَ الَّتِي كانَتْ تَتَزاوَجُ مُخَطَّطَةٌ وَمُنَقَّطَةٌ وَمُرَقَّطَةٌ.

11 a nd the messenger of God saith unto me in the dream, Jacob, and I say, Here I.

ثُمَّ جاءَ إلَيَّ مَلاكُ اللهِ فِي حُلْمٍ وَقالَ: ‹يا يَعْقُوبُ!› «فَقُلْتُ: ‹سَمْعاً وَطاعَةً.›

12 ` And He saith, Lift up, I pray thee, thine eyes, and see -- all the he-goats which are going up on the flock ring-straked, speckled, and grisled, for I have seen all that Laban is doing to thee;

«فَقالَ المَلاكُ: ‹ارْفَعْ عَينَيكَ وَانظُرْ كَيفَ أنَّ كُلَّ التُّيُوسِ المُتَزاوِجَةِ مُخَطَّطَةٌ وَمُنَقَّطَةٌ وَمُرَقَّطَةٌ. فَقَدْ رَأيتُ كُلَّ ما فَعَلَهُ لابانُ بِكَ،

13 I the God of Bethel where thou hast anointed a standing pillar, where thou hast vowed a vow to me; now, arise, go out from this land, and turn back unto the land of thy birth.'

أنا إلَهُ بَيتِ إيلَ حَيثُ كَرَّسْتَ عَمُوداً وَنَذَرْتَ لِي نَذْراً. فَالآنَ قُمْ وَاتْرُكْ هَذا المَكانَ وَعُدْ إلَى أرْضِ أهلِكَ.›»

14 A nd Rachel answereth -- Leah also -- and saith to him, `Have we yet a portion and inheritance in the house of our father?

فَأجابَتْهُ راحِيلُ وَلَيئَةُ: «ألَعَلَّ لَنا نَصِيباً أوْ مِيراثاً فِي بَيتِ أبِينا؟

15 h ave we not been reckoned strangers to him? for he hath sold us, and he also utterly consumeth our money;

ألا يَعتَبِرُنا غَرِيبَتَينِ؟ فقَدْ باعَنا وَاسْتَولَى عَلَى المَهْرِ الَّذِي دُفِعَ فِينا.

16 f or all the wealth which God hath taken away from our father, it ours, and our children's; and now, all that God hath said unto thee -- do.'

فَكُلُّ الثَّرْوَةِ الَّتِي اسْتَعادَها اللهُ مِنْ أبِينا هِيَ لَنا وَلِأبْنائِنا. فَالآنَ اعْمَلْ كَما قالَ لَكَ اللهُ!»

17 A nd Jacob riseth, and lifteth up his sons and his wives on the camels,

فَاسْتَعَدَّ يَعقُوبُ وَأركَبَ أبْناءَهُ وَزَوْجاتِهِ الجِمالَ.

18 a nd leadeth all his cattle, and all his substance which he hath acquired, the cattle of his getting, which he hath acquired in Padan-Aram, to go unto Isaac his father, to the land of Canaan.

وَساقَ كُلَّ مَواشِيهِ وَكُلَّ مُقتَنَياتِهِ. ساقَ كُلَّ شَيءٍ اقْتَناهُ، وَالماشِيَةَ الَّتِي حَصَلَ عَلَيها فِي فَدَّانَ أرامَ، لِيَذْهَبَ إلَى أبِيهِ إسْحاقَ فِي أرْضِ كَنْعانَ.

19 A nd Laban hath gone to shear his flock, and Rachel stealeth the teraphim which her father hath;

وَكانَ لابانُ قَدْ ذَهَبَ لِيَجِزَّ الصُّوفَ عَنْ غَنَمِهِ. فَسَرَقَتْ راحِيلُ تَماثِيلَ أبِيها.

20 a nd Jacob deceiveth the heart of Laban the Aramaean, because he hath not declared to him that he is fleeing;

وَخَدَعَ يَعْقُوبُ لابانَ الأرامِيَّ إذْ لَمْ يُخْبِرْهُ بِرَحيلِهِ،

21 a nd he fleeth, he and all that he hath, and riseth, and passeth over the River, and setteth his face the mount of Gilead.

بَلْ هَرَبَ بِكُلِّ ما كانَ لَهُ. وَانطَلَقَ يَعْقُوبُ وَعَبَرَ نَهْرَ الفُراتِ، قاصِداً أرْضَ جِلْعادَ الجَبَلِيَّةِ.

22 A nd it is told to Laban on the third day that Jacob hath fled,

وَفِي اليَوْمِ الثّالِثِ أُخْبِرَ لابانُ بِأنَّ يَعْقُوبَ قَدْ هَرَبَ.

23 a nd he taketh his brethren with him, and pursueth after him a journey of seven days, and overtaketh him in the mount of Gilead.

فَأخَذَ لابانُ أقْرِباءَهُ مَعَهُ وَلاحَقَهُ مُدَّةَ سَبْعَةِ أيّامٍ، إلَى أنْ أدرَكَهُ فِي جِلْعادَ الجَبَلِيَّةِ.

24 A nd God cometh in unto Laban the Aramaean in a dream of the night, and saith to him, `Take heed to thyself lest thou speak with Jacob from good unto evil.'

وَجاءَ اللهُ إلَى لابانَ الأرامِيَّ فِي حُلْمٍ فِي تِلْكَ اللَّيلَةِ. وَقالَ اللهُ لِلابانَ: «احتَرِسْ مِنْ أنْ تُهَدِّدَ يَعْقُوبَ بِأيَّةِ كَلِمَةٍ!» البحثُ عنِ التّماثيلِ المسروقة

25 A nd Laban overtaketh Jacob; and Jacob hath fixed his tent in the mount; and Laban with his brethren have fixed in the mount of Gilead.

فَأدرَكَ لابانُ يَعقُوبَ. وَنَصَبَ يَعقُوبُ خَيمَتَهُ عَلَى الجَبَلِ. وَنَصَبَ لابانُ خَيمَتَهُ فِي جِلْعادَ الجَبَلِيَّةِ.

26 A nd Laban saith to Jacob, `What hast thou done that thou dost deceive my heart, and lead away my daughters as captives of the sword?

فَقالَ لابانُ لِيَعقُوبَ: «ما هَذا الَّذِي فَعَلْتَهُ؟ خَدَعْتَنِي وَأخَذْتَ ابْنَتَيَّ كَما لَوْ أنَّهُما أسِيرَتا حَربٍ.

27 W hy hast thou hidden thyself to flee, and deceivest me, and hast not declared to me, and I send thee away with joy and with songs, with tabret and with harp,

فَلِماذا هَرَبْتَ سِرّاً وَخَدَعْتَنِي وَلَمْ تُخبِرْنِي؟ لَوْ أخبَرْتَنِي لَوَدَّعْتُكَ بِفَرَحٍ وَأغانٍ وَدُفُوفٍ وَقَياثيرَ.

28 a nd hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? -- now thou hast acted foolishly in doing;

لَمْ تَسْمَحْ لِي حَتَّى بِتَقْبِيلِ أحفادِيَ وَبِنْتَيَّ قُبلَةَ الوَداعِ، وَكانَ هَذا حُمْقاً مِنْكَ.

29 m y hand is to God to do evil with you, but the God of your father yesternight hath spoken unto me, saying, Take heed to thyself from speaking with Jacob from good unto evil.

أُقْسِمُ أنِّي كُنْتُ أنوِي إيذاءَكَ. لَكِنْ ظَهَرَ لِي لَيلَةَ أمْسٍ إلَهُ أبِيكَ، وَقالَ لِي: ‹احتَرِسْ مِنْ أنْ تُهَدِّدَ يَعْقُوبَ بِأيَّةِ كَلِمَةٍ!›

30 ` And now, thou hast certainly gone, because thou hast been very desirous for the house of thy father; why hast thou stolen my gods?'

وَالآنَ أنتَ غادَرْتَ لِأنَّكَ اشْتَقْتَ إلَى بَيتِ أبِيكَ، لَكِنْ لِماذا سَرَقْتَ أوْثانَ بَيتِي؟»

31 A nd Jacob answereth and saith to Laban, `Because I was afraid, for I said, Lest thou take violently away thy daughters from me;

فَرَدَّ يَعقُوبُ عَلَى لابانَ وَقالَ: «غادَرْتُ دُونَ أنْ أُخْبِرَكَ لِأنِّي خِفْتُ أنْ تَأْخُذَ ابْنَتَيكَ مِنِّي.

32 w ith whomsoever thou findest thy gods -- he doth not live; before our brethren discern for thyself what with me, and take to thyself:' and Jacob hath not known that Rachel hath stolen them.

لَكِنْ إنْ وَجَدْتَ أوْثانَكَ مَعَ أحَدٍ، فَسَيُقْتَلُ، أيّاً كانَ. وَأنا أقُولُ لَكَ عَلَى مَسْمَعٍ مِنْ أقْرِبائِنا: أشِرْ إلَى أيِّ شَيءٍ مَعِي وَقُلْ إنَّهُ لَكَ، حِينَئِذٍ، يَرْجِعُ إلَيكَ.» لَكِنَّ يَعقُوبَ لَمْ يَكُنْ يَعلَمُ أنَّ راحِيلَ هِيَ الَّتِي سَرَقَتِ الأوثانَ.

33 A nd Laban goeth into the tent of Jacob, and into the tent of Leah, and into the tent of the two handmaidens, and hath not found; and he goeth out from the tent of Leah, and goeth into the tent of Rachel.

فَدَخَلَ لابانُ إلَى خَيمَةِ يَعقُوبَ وَخَيمَةِ لَيئَةَ وَخَيمَةِ الخادِمَتَينِ، لَكِنَّهُ لَمْ يَجِدِ الأوْثانَ. ثُمَّ دَخَلَ إلَى خَيمَةِ راحِيلَ.

34 A nd Rachel hath taken the teraphim, and putteth them in the furniture of the camel, and sitteth upon them; and Laban feeleth all the tent, and hath not found;

وَكانَتْ راحِيلُ قَدْ أخَذَتْ أوْثانَ البَيتِ وَوَضَعَتْها فِي سَرْجِ الجَمَلِ الَّذِي كانَتْ تَجلِسُ عَلَيهِ. وَفَتَّشَ لابانُ الخَيمَةَ كُلَّها فَلَمْ يَجِدِ الأوْثانَ.

35 a nd she saith unto her father, `Let it not be displeasing in the eyes of my lord that I am not able to rise at thy presence, for the way of women on me;' and he searcheth, and hath not found the teraphim.

فَقالَتْ راحِيلُ لِأبِيها: «لا تَغضَبْ مِنِّي يا سَيِّدِي، فَأنا لا أسْتَطِيعُ الوُقُوفَ أمامَكَ. إذْ عَلَيَّ العادَةُ الشَّهْرِيَّةُ.» فَفَتَّشَ لابانُ، لَكِنَّهُ لَمْ يَجِدْ أوْثانَ بَيتِهِ.

36 A nd it is displeasing to Jacob, and he striveth with Laban; and Jacob answereth and saith to Laban, `What my transgression? what my sin, that thou hast burned after me?

فَغَضِبَ يَعقُوبُ وَوَبَّخَ لابانَ. وَقالَ لِلابانَ: «أيَّةَ جَرِيمَةٍ ارتَكَبْتُ؟ وَما هِيَ الإساءَةُ الَّتِي أسَأْتُ بِها إلَيكَ، حَتَّى جِئْتَ تُطارِدُنِي؟

37 f or thou hast felt all my vessels: what hast thou found of all the vessels of thy house? set here before my brethren, and thy brethren, and they decide between us both.

لَقَدْ فَتَّشْتَ كُلَّ أغراضِي. فَهَلْ وَجَدْتَ بَينَها شَيئاً مِنْ مُقتَنَياتِ بَيتِكَ؟ إنْ وَجَدْتَهُ، فَضَعْهُ هُنا أمامَ أقْرِبائِي وَأقْرِبائِكَ. وَلْيَحكُمُوا بَينَنا.

38 ` These twenty years I with thee: thy ewes and thy she-goats have not miscarried, and the rams of thy flock I have not eaten;

كُنْتُ مَعَكَ عِشْرِينَ عاماً وَلَمْ تُجهِضْ فِيها نِعاجُكَ وَمِعازُكَ. وَلَمْ آكُلْ يَوْماً مِنْ كِباشِ قُطْعانِكَ.

39 t he torn I have not brought in unto thee -- I, I repay it -- from my hand thou dost seek it; I have been deceived by day, and I have been deceived by night;

وَلَمْ أُحضِرْ لَكَ يَوْماً رَأْساً مِنْ ماشِيَتِكَ افتَرَسَتْهُ الوُحُوشُ، بَلْ كُنْتُ أُعَوِّضُ لَكَ الخَسارَةَ مِنِّي عِندَما كُنْتَ تَطلُبُها. وَقَدْ تَعَرَّضْتُ لِلسَّلْبِ لَيلاً وَنَهاراً.

40 I have been: in the day consumed me hath drought, and frost by night, and wander doth my sleep from mine eyes.

عِشْتُ هَكَذا: كانَتْ قُوَّتِي تُمْتَصُّ مِنَ الحَرِّ نَهاراً، وَمِنَ البَرْدِ لَيلاً. وَلَمْ أذُقْ طَعْمَ النَّوْمِ حِرْصاً عَلَى مَواشِيكَ.

41 ` This to me twenty years in thy house: I have served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy flock; and thou changest my hire ten times;

كُنْتُ فِي بَيتِكَ طَوالَ هَذِهِ السَّنَواتِ العِشْرِينَ أعمَلُ كَعَبْدٍ، أرْبَعَ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً مُقابِلَ ابْنَتَيكَ وَسِتَّ سَنَواتٍ مُقابِلَ غَنَمِكَ. وَغَيَّرْتَ أجرِيَ عَشَرَ مَرّاتٍ.

42 u nless the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the Fear of Isaac, had been for me, surely now empty thou hadst sent me away; mine affliction and the labour of my hands hath God seen, and reproveth yesternight.'

لَكِنَّ إلَهَ أبِي، إلَهَ إبْراهِيمَ، وَمَهابَةُ إسْحاقَ، كانَ مَعِي. وَلَولا ذَلِكَ لأرْسَلْتَنِي فارِغَ اليَدَينِ. رَأى اللهُ ضِيقِي وَتَعَبِي. وَلِهَذا وَبَّخَكَ اللهُ لَيلَةَ أمْسِ.» عهدُ يَعْقُوبَ وَلابان

43 A nd Laban answereth and saith unto Jacob, `The daughters my daughters, and the sons my sons, and the flock my flock, and all that thou art seeing mine; and to my daughters -- what do I to these to-day, or to their sons whom they have born?

فَأجابَ لابانُ: «هاتانِ ابْنَتايَ، وَهُؤلاءِ الغِلمانُ لِي، وَالغَنَمُ غَنَمِي، وَكُلُّ ما تَراهُ هُوَ لِي. لَكِنْ ماذا عَسانِي أفْعَلُ اليَوْمَ بِابْنَتَيَّ وَأولادِهِنَّ؟

44 a nd now, come, let us make a covenant, I and thou, and it hath been for a witness between me and thee.'

فَتَعالَ وَلْنَقْطَعْ أنا وَأنْتَ عَهْداً. وَلْيَكُنْ هَذا العَهْدُ شاهِداً بَينِي وَبَينَكَ.»

45 A nd Jacob taketh a stone, and lifteth it up a standing pillar;

فَأخَذَ يَعقُوبُ حَجَراً، وَنَصَبَهُ عَمُوداً.

46 a nd Jacob saith to his brethren, `Gather stones,' and they take stones, and make a heap; and they eat there on the heap;

ثُمَّ قالَ يَعقُوبُ لِأقْرِبائِهِ: «اجْمَعُوا حِجارَةً!» فَأخَذُوا حِجارَةً وَجَعَلُوا مِنْها كَوْمَةً. ثُمَّ أكَلُوا مَعَاً بِجانِبِ كَوْمَةِ الحِجارَةِ.

47 a nd Laban calleth it Jegar-Sahadutha; and Jacob hath called it Galeed.

وَسَمَّى لابانُ ذَلِكَ المَكانَ يَجَرْ سَهْدُوثا. وَسَمّاهُ يَعقُوبُ جَلْعِيدَ.

48 A nd Laban saith, `This heap witness between me and thee to-day;' therefore hath he called its name Galeed;

فَقَدْ قالَ لابانُ لِيَعْقُوبَ: «كَوْمَةُ الحِجارَةِ هَذِهِ تَشْهَدُ اليَوْمَ بَينِي وَبَينَكَ.» لِذَلِكَ دُعِيَ المَوضِعُ جَلْعِيدُ.

49 M izpah also, for he said, `Jehovah doth watch between me and thee, for we are hidden one from another;

وَدُعِيَ المَكانُ أيضاً مِصْفاةَ، لِأنَّ لابانَ قالَ: «لِيُراقِبِ اللهُ كِلَينا عِندَما يَفْتَرِقُ أحَدُنا عَنِ الآخَرِ، وَيَحكُمْ بَينَنا.

50 i f thou afflict my daughters, or take wives beside my daughters -- there is no man with us -- see, God witness between me and thee.'

فَلا تُؤذِ بَناتِي، وَلا تَتَزَوَّجْ عَلَيْهِنَّ. فَاللهُ شاهِدٌ بَينِي وَبَينَكَ، حَتَّى لَوْ لَمْ يَكُنْ مَعَنا أحَدٌ.»

51 A nd Laban saith to Jacob, `Lo, this heap, and lo, the standing pillar which I have cast between me and thee;

وَقالَ لابانُ لِيَعقُوبَ: «ها كَوْمَةُ الحِجارَةِ وَالعَمُودُ بَينَنا.

52 t his heap witness, and the standing pillar witness, that I do not pass over this heap unto thee, and that thou dost not pass over this heap and this standing pillar unto me -- for evil;

هَذِهِ الكَوْمَةُ شاهِدَةٌ وَهَذا العَمُودُ شاهِدٌ عَلَى أنِّي لَنْ أتَخَطَّى هَذِهِ الكَوْمَةَ إلَيكَ لإيذائِكَ، وَأنَّكَ لَنْ تَتَخَطَّى هَذِهِ الكَوْمَةَ وَهَذا العَمُودَ إلَيَّ لإيذائِي.

53 t he God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, doth judge between us -- the God of their father,' and Jacob sweareth by the Fear of his father Isaac.

وَلْيَحكُمْ بَينَنا إلَهُ إبْراهِيمَ وَإلَهُ ناحُورَ إلَهُ أبِيهِما.» ثُمَّ حَلَفَ يَعقُوبُ بِمَهابَةِ إسْحاقَ أبيهِ.

54 A nd Jacob sacrificeth a sacrifice in the mount, and calleth to his brethren to eat bread, and they eat bread, and lodge in the mount;

وَقَدَّمَ ذَبِيحَةً عَلَى الجَبَلِ. وَدَعا أقْرِباءَهُ إلَى الطَّعامِ. فَأكَلُوا وَباتُوا لَيلَتَهُمْ عَلَى الجَبَلِ.

55 a nd Laban riseth early in the morning, and kisseth his sons and his daughters, and blesseth them; and Laban goeth on, and turneth back to his place.

وَفي الصَّباحِ الباكِرِ، اسْتَيقَظَ لابانُ وَقَبَّلَ أحْفادَهُ وَبَناتِهِ وَبارَكَهُمْ، ثُمَّ عَادَ إلَى بَيتِهِ.
