1 A nd Joshua gathereth all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and calleth for the elders of Israel, and for its heads, and for its judges, and for its authorities, and they station themselves before God.

وَجَمَعَ يَشُوعُ كُلَّ قَبائِلِ إسْرائِيلَ فِي شَكِيمَ. وَاستَدْعَى كُلَّ الشُّيُوخِ وَالقادَةِ وَالقُضاةِ وَالمَسؤُولِينَ فِي إسْرائِيلَ، فَأَتَوْا وَوَقَفُوا فِي حَضْرَةِ اللهِ.

2 A nd Joshua saith unto all the people, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Beyond the River have your fathers dwelt of old -- Terah father of Abraham and father of Nachor -- and they serve other gods;

فَقالَ يَشُوعُ لَهُمْ: «هَذا هُوَ ما يَقُولُهُ اللهُ ، إلَهُ إسْرائِيلَ: ‹فِي القَدِيمِ سَكَنَ آباؤكُمْ، بِمَنْ فِيهِم تارَحُ أبُو إبراهِيمَ وَناحُورَ، فِي الجِهَةِ الأُخرَى مِنْ نَهرِ الفُراتِ، وَعَبَدُوا آلِهَةً أُخْرَى.

3 a nd I take your father Abraham from beyond the River, and cause him to go through all the land of Canaan, and multiply his seed, and give to him Isaac.

ثُمَّ أخَذْتُ أباكُمْ إبراهِيمَ مِنَ الجِهَةِ الأُخرَى مِنْ نَهْرِ الفُراتِ وَقُدتُهُ فِي كُلِّ أرْضِ كَنْعانَ، وَأعطَيتُهُ نَسلاً كَثِيراً، وَأعْطَيتُهُ إسْحَاقَ.

4 A nd I give to Isaac, Jacob and Esau; and I give to Esau mount Seir, to possess it; and Jacob and his sons have gone down to Egypt.

وَأعْطَيتُ لإسْحَاقَ وَلَدَيهِ يَعقُوبَ وَعِيسُوَ. وَأعطَيتُ عِيسُوَ مِنْطَقَةَ سَعِيرَ الجَبَلِيَّةَ لِيَمتَلِكَها. أمّا يَعقُوبُ وَأوَلادُهُ، فَنَزَلُوا إلَى مِصْرَ.

5 A nd I send Moses and Aaron, and plague Egypt, as I have done in its midst, and afterwards I have brought you out.

‹ثُمَّ أرسَلْتُ مُوسَى وَهارُونَ، وَجَلَبْتُ ضِيقاً عَظِيماً عَلَى مِصْرَ وَعَلَى شَعبِها بِما عَمِلْتُهُ هُناكَ. وَبَعدَ ذَلِكَ أخرَجْتُكُمْ.

6 A nd I bring out your fathers from Egypt, and ye go into the sea, and the Egyptians pursue after your fathers, with chariot and with horsemen, to the Red Sea;

وَحِينَ أخرَجْتُ آباءَكُمْ مِنْ مِصْرَ أتَيتُمْ إلَى البَحرِ، وَطارَدَ المِصرِيُّونَ آباءَكُمْ بِمَرْكَباتٍ وَفُرسانٍ إلَى البَحرِ الأحمَرِ.

7 a nd they cry unto Jehovah, and He setteth thick darkness between you and the Egyptians, and bringeth on them the sea, and covereth them, and your eyes see that which I have done in Egypt; and ye dwell in a wilderness many days.

وَحِينَ صَرَخُوا للهِ طَلَباً لِلعَونِ، وَضَعَ ظُلْمَةً بَينَكُمْ وَبَينَ المِصْرِيِّينَ، وَرَدَّ البَحرَ عَلَيهِمْ فَغَطّاهُمْ. قَدْ رَأتْ عُيُونُكُمْ ما عَمِلْتُهُ بمِصْرَ. ‹وَبَعْدَ أنْ عِشْتُمْ فِي البَرِّيَّةِ زَمَناً طَوِيلاً،

8 ` And I bring you in unto the land of the Amorite who is dwelling beyond the Jordan, and they fight with you, and I give them into your hand, and ye possess their land, and I destroy them out of your presence.

أحْضَرْتُكُمْ إلَى أرْضِ الأمِورِيِّينَ السّاكِنِينَ فِي الجِهَةِ الأُخرَى مِنْ نَهرِ الأُردُنِّ. وَحارَبُوكُمْ، وَأعطَيتُهُمْ لَكُمْ فامتَلَكْتُمْ أرْضَهُمِ وَأفنَيتُمُوهُمْ مِنْ أمامِكُمْ.

9 ` And Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, riseth and fighteth against Israel, and sendeth and calleth for Balaam son of Beor, to revile you,

‹ثُمَّ استَعَدَّ المَلِكُ بالاقُ بْنُ صِفُّورَ، مَلِكُ مُوآبَ لِيُحارِبَ إسْرائِيلَ، فَأرسَلَ وَدَعا بِلْعامَ بْنَ بَعُورَ لِيَلْعَنَكُمْ،

10 a nd I have not been willing to hearken to Balaam, and he doth greatly bless you, and I deliver you out of his hand.

لَكِنِّي لَمْ أشَأْ أنْ أستَمِعَ لِبَلْعامَ، وَلِذا بارَكْتُكُمْ، وَأنقَذْتُكُمْ مِنْ يَدِهِ.

11 ` And ye pass over the Jordan, and come in unto Jericho, and fight against you do the possessors of Jericho -- the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Girgashite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite -- and I give them into your hand.

‹وَحِينَ عَبَرْتُمْ نَهرَ الأُردُنِّ وَأتَيتُمْ إلَى أرِيحا، حارَبَكُمْ سُكّانُ أرِيحا، كَما عَمِلَ الأمُورِيُّونَ وَالفِرِزِّيُّونَ وَالكَنعانِيُّونَ وَالحِثِّيُّونَ وَالجِرجاشِيُّونَ وَالحِوِّيُّونَ وَاليَبُوسَيُّونَ، فَأخضَعتُهُمْ لَكُمْ.

12 A nd I send before you the hornet, and it casteth them out from your presence -- two kings of the Amorite -- not by thy sword, nor by thy bow.

وَأرسَلْتُ الدَّبابِيرَ أمامَكُمْ فَطَرَدُوا مَلِكَيِّ الأمُورِيِّينَ مِنْ أمامِكُمْ. لَمْ تَطرُدُوهُمْ بِسُيُوفِكُمْ وَأقواسِكُمْ.

13 ` And I give to you a land for which thou hast not laboured, and cities which ye have not built, and ye dwell in them; of vineyards and olive-yards which ye have not planted ye are eating.

‹أعطَيتُكُمْ أرْضاً لَمْ تَعمَلُوا فِيها، وَمُدُناً لَمْ تَبنُوها فَسَكَنْتُمْ فِيها. تَأكُلُونَ مِنْ كُرُومٍ وَأشجارِ زَيتُونٍ لِمْ تَزرَعُوها.›»

14 ` And now, fear ye Jehovah, and serve Him, in perfection and in truth, and turn aside the gods which your fathers served beyond the River, and in Egypt, and serve ye Jehovah;

«وَالآنَ، اخشَوا يهوه وَهابُوهُ وَاخدِمُوهُ بِإخلاصٍ وَبِأمانَةٍ. تَخَلَّصُوا مِنَ الآلِهَةِ الَّتِي عَبَدَها آباؤكُمْ فِي الجِهَةِ الأُخرَى مِنْ نَهرِ الفُراتِ وَفِي مِصْرَ، وَاخدِمُوا يهوه.

15 a nd if wrong in your eyes to serve Jehovah -- choose for you to-day whom ye do serve; -- whether the gods whom your fathers served, which beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorite in whose land ye are dwelling; and I and my house -- we serve Jehovah.'

«وَإنْ كُنتُمْ لا تَرغَبُونَ فِي خِدمَةِ يهوه، فاختارُوا لِأنفُسِكُمُ اليَومَ إلهاً آخَرَ تَخدِمُونَهُ، سَواءٌ مِنَ الآلِهَةِ الَّتِي خَدَمَها آباؤكُمْ فِي الجِهَةِ الأُخرَى مِنْ نَهرِ الفُراتِ، أمْ مِنْ آلِهَةِ الأمُورِيِّينَ الَّذِينَ تَسكُنُونَ فِي أرْضِهِمْ. وَأمّا أنا وَبَيْتِي فَسَنَخدِمُ يهوه.»

16 A nd the people answer and say, `Far be it from us to forsake Jehovah, to serve other gods;

فَأجابَ الشَّعبُ: «لَنْ نَترُكَ يهوه لِنَعبُدَ آلِهَةً أُخْرَى.

17 f or Jehovah our God He who is bringing us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, out of a house of servants, and who hath done before our eyes these great signs, and doth keep us in all the way in which we have gone, and among all the peoples through whose midst we passed;

فَإلَهُنا يهوه هُوَ مَنْ أخرَجَنا وَأخرَجَ آباءَنا مِنْ أرْضِ مِصْرَ حَيثُ كُنّا عَبِيداً. وَقَدْ عَمِلَ عَجائِبَ عَظِيمَةً أمامَ عُيُونِنا، وَحَمانا فِي كُلِّ رِحلَتِنا وَوَسَطَ كُلِّ الشُّعُوبِ الَّتِي سِرْنا فِي أرْضِها.

18 a nd Jehovah casteth out the whole of the peoples, even the Amorite inhabiting the land, from our presence; we also do serve Jehovah, for He our God.'

وَقَدْ طَرَدَ يهوه مِنْ أمامِنا جَمِيعَ الشُّعُوبِ فِي هَذِهِ الأرْضِ، كَالأمُورِيِّينَ الَّذِينَ كانُوا يَسْكُنُونَ فِي الأرْضِ. لِذَلِكَ نَحْنُ أيضاً سَنَخدِمُ يهوه، لأَنَّهُ إلَهُنا.»

19 A nd Joshua saith unto the people, `Ye are not able to serve Jehovah, for a God most holy He; a zealous God He; He doth not bear with your transgression and with your sins.

فَقالَ يَشُوعُ لِلشَّعْبِ: «لا تَسْتَطِيعُونَ الآنَ أنْ تَخْدِمُوا يهوه لِأنَّهُ إلَهٌ قُدُّوسٌ. إنَّهُ إلَهٌ غَيُّورٌ، وَلَنْ يَغفِرَ لَكُمْ تَمَرُّدَكُمْ وَخَطاياكُمْ.

20 W hen ye forsake Jehovah, and have served gods of a stranger, then He hath turned back and done evil to you, and consumed you, after that He hath done good to you.'

إنْ تَرَكْتُمُ يهوه وَخَدَمْتُمْ آلِهَةً غَرِيبَةً، فَإنَّهُ سَيَرجِعُ وَيَجلِبُ عَلَيكُمْ كَوارِثَ وَيُفنِيكُمْ، حَتَّى بَعْدَ أنْ أحْسَنَ إلَيْكُمْ.»

21 A nd the people saith unto Joshua, `No, but Jehovah we do serve.'

فَقالَ الشَّعبُ لِيَشُوعَ: «كَلّا! بَلْ سَنَخدِمُ يهوه.»

22 A nd Joshua saith unto the people, `Witnesses ye are against yourselves, that ye have chosen for you Jehovah to serve Him (and they say, `Witnesses!')

ثُمَّ قالَ يَشُوعُ لِلشَّعبِ: «أنتُمْ شُهُودٌ عَلَى أنفُسِكُمْ أنَّكُمُ اختَرْتُمُ يهوه لِتَخدِمُوهُ.» فَقالُوا: «نَحنُ شُهُودٌ.»

23 a nd, now, turn aside the gods of the stranger which in your midst, and incline your heart unto Jehovah, God of Israel.'

فَقالَ يَشُوعُ: «تَخَلَّصُوا إذاً مِنَ الآلِهَةِ الغَرِيبَةِ الَّتِي بَينَكُمْ. وَأمِيلُوا قُلُوبَكُمْ إلَى يهوه إلَهِ إسْرائِيلَ.»

24 A nd the people say unto Joshua, `Jehovah our God we serve, and to His voice we hearken.'

فَقالَ الشَّعبُ لِيَشُوعَ: «سَنَخدِمُ يهوه إلَهَنا وَنُطِيعُهُ.»

25 A nd Joshua maketh a covenant with the people on that day, and layeth on it a statute and an ordinance, in Shechem.

فَقَطَعَ يَشُوعُ عَهْداً مَعَ الشَّعبِ فِي ذَلِكَ اليَومِ، وَوَضَعَ لَهُمْ أحكاماً وَقَوانِينَ فِي شَكِيمَ.

26 A nd Joshua writeth these words in the Book of the Law of God, and taketh a great stone, and raiseth it up there under the oak which in the sanctuary of Jehovah.

وَكَتَبَ يَشُوعُ هَذا الكَلامَ فِي كِتابِ شَرِيعَةِ اللهِ. وَأخَذَ حَجَراً كَبِيراً وَوَضَعَهُ تَحْتَ شَجَرَةِ البَلُّوطِ الَّتِي عِنْدَ خَيْمَةِ يهوه المُقّدَّسَةِ.

27 A nd Joshua saith unto all the people, `Lo, this stone is against us for a witness, for it hath heard all the sayings of Jehovah which He hath spoken with us, and it hath been against you for a witness, lest ye lie against your God.'

وَقالَ يَشُوعُ لِكُلِّ الشَّعبِ: «سَيَكُونُ هَذا الحَجَرُ شاهِداً عَلَينا، كَأنَّهُ سَمِعَ كَلامَ يهوه الَّذِي تَكَلَّمَ بِهِ إلَينا. سَيَكُونُ شاهِداً عَلَيكُمْ كَي لا تَتَمَرَّدُوا عَلَى إلَهِكُمْ.»

28 A nd Joshua sendeth the people away, each to his inheritance.

ثُمَّ صَرَفَ يَشُوعُ الشَّعبَ كُلَّ واحِدٍ إلَى أرْضِهِ وَمِيراثِهِ. مَوتُ يَشُوع

29 A nd it cometh to pass, after these things, that Joshua son of Nun, servant of Jehovah, dieth, a son of a hundred and ten years,

وَبَعدَ هَذِهِ الأُمُورِ، ماتَ يَشُوعُ بْنُ نُونَ خادِمُ اللهِ ، وَلَهُ مِنَ العُمْرِ مِئِةٌ وَعَشْرُ سَنَواتٍ.

30 a nd they bury him in the border of his inheritance, in Timnath-Serah, which in the hill-country of Ephraim, on the north of the hill of Gaash.

وَدُفِنَ فِي أرْضِهِ فِي تِمْنَةَ سارَحَ فِي مِنْطَقَةِ أفْرايِمَ الجَبَلِيَّةِ إلَى الشِّمالِ مِنْ جَبَلِ جاعَشَ.

31 A nd Israel serveth Jehovah all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who prolonged days after Joshua, and who knew all the work of Jehovah which He did to Israel.

وَخَدَمَ إسْرائِيلُ اللهَ وعبدوه طَوالَ حَياةِ يَشُوعَ وَالشُّيُوخِ الَّذِينَ بَقَوْا أحياءَ بَعدَهُ، الَّذِينَ عَرَفُوا وَاختَبَرُوا العَمَلَ الَّذِي عَمِلَهُ اللهُ لإسْرائِيلَ. عِظامُ يُوسُف

32 A nd the bones of Joseph, which the sons of Israel brought up out of Egypt, they buried in Shechem, in the portion of the field which Jacob bought from the sons of Hamor father of Shechem, with a hundred kesitah; and they are to the sons of Joseph for an inheritance.

وَدُفِنَتْ عِظامُ يُوسُفَ الَّتِي أحضَرَها بَنو إسْرائِيلَ مِنْ مِصْرَ فِي شَكِيمَ. فِي الأرْضِ الَّتِي اشتَراها يَعقُوبُ بِمِئَةِ قِطعَةٍ مِنَ الفِضّةِ مِنْ أبناءِ حَمُورَ أبِي شَكيمَ. فَصارَتْ هَذِهِ الأرْضُ مُلْكاً لِنَسلِ يَوسُفَ. مَوتُ ألعازار

33 A nd Eleazar son of Aaron died, and they bury him in the hill of Phinehas his son, which was given to him in the hill-country of Ephraim.

وَماتَ ألِعازَارُ بْنُ هارُونَ. وَدُفِنَ فِي جِبْعَةَ مَدِينَةِ ابنِهِ فِينْحاسَ، الَّتِي أُعطِيَتْ لَهُ فِي مِنْطَقَةِ أفْرايِمَ الجَبَلِيَّةِ.
