1 A nd Joshua gathereth all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and calleth for the elders of Israel, and for its heads, and for its judges, and for its authorities, and they station themselves before God.

¶ Y juntando Josué todas las tribus de Israel en Siquem, llamó a los ancianos de Israel, a sus príncipes, a sus jueces, y a sus oficiales; y se presentaron delante de Dios.

2 A nd Joshua saith unto all the people, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Beyond the River have your fathers dwelt of old -- Terah father of Abraham and father of Nachor -- and they serve other gods;

Y dijo Josué a todo el pueblo: Así dice el SEÑOR, Dios de Israel: Vuestros padres habitaron antiguamente al otro lado del río, es a saber, Taré, padre de Abraham y de Nacor; y servían a dioses extraños.

3 a nd I take your father Abraham from beyond the River, and cause him to go through all the land of Canaan, and multiply his seed, and give to him Isaac.

Y yo tomé a vuestro padre Abraham del otro lado del río, y lo traje por toda la tierra de Canaán, y aumenté su generación, y le di a Isaac.

4 A nd I give to Isaac, Jacob and Esau; and I give to Esau mount Seir, to possess it; and Jacob and his sons have gone down to Egypt.

Y a Isaac di a Jacob y a Esaú; y a Esaú di el monte de Seir, para que lo poseyera; mas Jacob y sus hijos descendieron a Egipto.

5 A nd I send Moses and Aaron, and plague Egypt, as I have done in its midst, and afterwards I have brought you out.

Y yo envié a Moisés y a Aarón, y herí a Egipto, al modo que lo hice en medio de él, y después os saqué.

6 A nd I bring out your fathers from Egypt, and ye go into the sea, and the Egyptians pursue after your fathers, with chariot and with horsemen, to the Red Sea;

Y saqué a vuestros padres de Egipto; y cuando llegaron al mar, los egipcios siguieron a vuestros padres hasta el mar Bermejo con carros y caballería.

7 a nd they cry unto Jehovah, and He setteth thick darkness between you and the Egyptians, and bringeth on them the sea, and covereth them, and your eyes see that which I have done in Egypt; and ye dwell in a wilderness many days.

Y cuando ellos clamaron al SEÑOR, él puso oscuridad entre vosotros y los egipcios, e hizo venir sobre ellos el mar, el cual los cubrió; y vuestros ojos vieron lo que hice en Egipto. Después estuvisteis muchos días en el desierto.

8 ` And I bring you in unto the land of the Amorite who is dwelling beyond the Jordan, and they fight with you, and I give them into your hand, and ye possess their land, and I destroy them out of your presence.

Y os introduje en la tierra de los amorreos, que habitaban al otro lado del Jordán, los cuales pelearon contra vosotros; mas yo los entregué en vuestras manos, y poseisteis su tierra, y los destruí de delante de vosotros.

9 ` And Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, riseth and fighteth against Israel, and sendeth and calleth for Balaam son of Beor, to revile you,

Y se levantó después Balac hijo de Zipor, rey de los moabitas, y peleó contra Israel; y envió a llamar a Balaam hijo de Beor, para que os maldijera.

10 a nd I have not been willing to hearken to Balaam, and he doth greatly bless you, and I deliver you out of his hand.

Mas yo no quise escuchar a Balaam, antes os bendijo repetidamente, y os libré de sus manos.

11 ` And ye pass over the Jordan, and come in unto Jericho, and fight against you do the possessors of Jericho -- the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Girgashite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite -- and I give them into your hand.

Y pasado el Jordán, vinisteis a Jericó; y los señores de Jericó pelearon contra vosotros: los amorreos, ferezeos, cananeos, heteos, gergeseos, heveos, y jebuseos; y yo los entregué en vuestras manos.

12 A nd I send before you the hornet, and it casteth them out from your presence -- two kings of the Amorite -- not by thy sword, nor by thy bow.

Y envié avispas delante de vosotros, los cuales los echaron de delante de vosotros, a saber, a los dos reyes de los amorreos; no con tu espada, ni con tu arco.

13 ` And I give to you a land for which thou hast not laboured, and cities which ye have not built, and ye dwell in them; of vineyards and olive-yards which ye have not planted ye are eating.

Y os di la tierra por la cual nada trabajasteis, y las ciudades que no edificasteis, en las cuales moráis; y las viñas y olivares que no plantasteis, de las cuales coméis.

14 ` And now, fear ye Jehovah, and serve Him, in perfection and in truth, and turn aside the gods which your fathers served beyond the River, and in Egypt, and serve ye Jehovah;

Ahora pues, temed al SEÑOR, y servidle con perfección y con verdad; y quitad de en medio los dioses a los cuales honraron vuestros padres del otro lado del río, y en Egipto; y servid al SEÑOR.

15 a nd if wrong in your eyes to serve Jehovah -- choose for you to-day whom ye do serve; -- whether the gods whom your fathers served, which beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorite in whose land ye are dwelling; and I and my house -- we serve Jehovah.'

¶ Y si mal os parece servir al SEÑOR, escogeos hoy a quién sirváis; o a los dioses a quien sirvieron vuestros padres, cuando estuvieron al otro lado del río, o a los dioses de los amorreos, en cuya tierra habitáis; que yo y mi casa serviremos al SEÑOR.

16 A nd the people answer and say, `Far be it from us to forsake Jehovah, to serve other gods;

Entonces el pueblo respondió, y dijo: Nunca tal nos acontezca, que dejemos al SEÑOR por servir a otros dioses.

17 f or Jehovah our God He who is bringing us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, out of a house of servants, and who hath done before our eyes these great signs, and doth keep us in all the way in which we have gone, and among all the peoples through whose midst we passed;

Porque el SEÑOR nuestro Dios es el que nos sacó a nosotros y a nuestros padres de la tierra de Egipto, de la casa de servidumbre; el cual delante de nuestros ojos ha hecho estas grandes señales, y nos ha guardado por todo el camino por donde hemos andado, y en todos los pueblos por entre los cuales pasamos.

18 a nd Jehovah casteth out the whole of the peoples, even the Amorite inhabiting the land, from our presence; we also do serve Jehovah, for He our God.'

Y el SEÑOR echó de delante de nosotros a todos los pueblos, y al amorreo que habitaba en la tierra. Por tanto nosotros también serviremos al SEÑOR, porque él es nuestro Dios.

19 A nd Joshua saith unto the people, `Ye are not able to serve Jehovah, for a God most holy He; a zealous God He; He doth not bear with your transgression and with your sins.

Entonces Josué dijo al pueblo: No podréis servir al SEÑOR, porque él es Dios santo, y Dios celoso; no permitirá vuestras rebeliones y vuestros pecados.

20 W hen ye forsake Jehovah, and have served gods of a stranger, then He hath turned back and done evil to you, and consumed you, after that He hath done good to you.'

Si dejaréis al SEÑOR y sirviereis a dioses ajenos, se volverá, y os maltratará, y os consumirá, después que os ha hecho bien.

21 A nd the people saith unto Joshua, `No, but Jehovah we do serve.'

El pueblo entonces dijo a Josué: No, antes al SEÑOR serviremos.

22 A nd Joshua saith unto the people, `Witnesses ye are against yourselves, that ye have chosen for you Jehovah to serve Him (and they say, `Witnesses!')

Y Josué respondió al pueblo: Vosotros seréis testigos contra vosotros mismos, de que habéis elegido al SEÑOR para servirle. Y ellos respondieron: Testigos seremos.

23 a nd, now, turn aside the gods of the stranger which in your midst, and incline your heart unto Jehovah, God of Israel.'

Quitad, pues, ahora los dioses ajenos que están entre vosotros, e inclinad vuestro corazón al SEÑOR Dios de Israel.

24 A nd the people say unto Joshua, `Jehovah our God we serve, and to His voice we hearken.'

Y el pueblo respondió a Josué: Al SEÑOR nuestro Dios serviremos, y a su voz oiremos.

25 A nd Joshua maketh a covenant with the people on that day, and layeth on it a statute and an ordinance, in Shechem.

Entonces Josué hizo pacto con el pueblo el mismo día, y le puso ordenanzas y leyes en Siquem.

26 A nd Joshua writeth these words in the Book of the Law of God, and taketh a great stone, and raiseth it up there under the oak which in the sanctuary of Jehovah.

Y escribió Josué estas palabras en el libro de la ley de Dios; y tomando una gran piedra, la levantó allí debajo de un alcornoque que estaba en el santuario del SEÑOR.

27 A nd Joshua saith unto all the people, `Lo, this stone is against us for a witness, for it hath heard all the sayings of Jehovah which He hath spoken with us, and it hath been against you for a witness, lest ye lie against your God.'

Y dijo Josué a todo el pueblo: He aquí esta piedra será entre nosotros por testigo, la cual ha oído todas las palabras del SEÑOR que él ha hablado con nosotros; será, pues, testigo contra vosotros, para que por ventura no mintáis contra vuestro Dios.

28 A nd Joshua sendeth the people away, each to his inheritance.

Y envió Josué al pueblo, cada uno a su heredad.

29 A nd it cometh to pass, after these things, that Joshua son of Nun, servant of Jehovah, dieth, a son of a hundred and ten years,

¶ Y después de estas cosas murió Josué, hijo de Nun, siervo del SEÑOR siendo de ciento diez años.

30 a nd they bury him in the border of his inheritance, in Timnath-Serah, which in the hill-country of Ephraim, on the north of the hill of Gaash.

Y lo enterraron en el término de su posesión en Timnat-sera, que está en el monte de Efraín, al norte del monte de Gaas.

31 A nd Israel serveth Jehovah all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who prolonged days after Joshua, and who knew all the work of Jehovah which He did to Israel.

Y sirvió Israel al SEÑOR todo el tiempo de Josué, y todo el tiempo de los ancianos que vivieron después de Josué, y que sabían todas las obras del SEÑOR, que había hecho con Israel.

32 A nd the bones of Joseph, which the sons of Israel brought up out of Egypt, they buried in Shechem, in the portion of the field which Jacob bought from the sons of Hamor father of Shechem, with a hundred kesitah; and they are to the sons of Joseph for an inheritance.

Y enterraron en Siquem los huesos de José que los hijos de Israel habían traído de Egipto, en la parte del campo que Jacob compró de los hijos de Hamor padre de Siquem, por cien corderas; y fue en posesión a los hijos de José.

33 A nd Eleazar son of Aaron died, and they bury him in the hill of Phinehas his son, which was given to him in the hill-country of Ephraim.

También murió Eleazar, hijo de Aarón; al cual enterraron en el collado de Finees su hijo, que le fue dado en el monte de Efraín.
