1 A nd David fleeth from Naioth in Ramah, and cometh, and saith before Jonathan, `What have I done? what mine iniquity? and what my sin before thy father, that he is seeking my life?'

¶ Y David huyó de Naiot que es en Ramá, y vino delante de Jonatán, y dijo: ¿Qué he hecho yo ? ¿Cuál es mi iniquidad, o cuál mi pecado contra tu padre, que él busca mi vida?

2 A nd he saith to him, `Far be it! thou dost not die; lo, my father doth not do anything great or small and doth not uncover mine ear; and wherefore doth my father hide from me this thing? this is not.'

Y él le dijo: En ninguna manera; no morirás. He aquí que mi padre ninguna cosa hará, grande ni pequeña, que no me la descubra; ¿por qué, pues, me encubrirá mi padre este negocio? No será así.

3 A nd David sweareth again, and saith, `Thy father hath certainly known that I have found grace in thine eyes, and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved; and yet, Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, but -- as a step between me and death.'

Y David volvió a jurar, diciendo: Tu padre sabe claramente que yo he hallado gracia delante de tus ojos, y dirá en sí: No sepa esto Jonatán, para que no tenga pesar; y ciertamente, vive el SEÑOR y vive tu alma, que apenas hay un paso entre mí y la muerte.

4 A nd Jonathan saith to David, `What doth thy soul say? -- and I do it for thee.'

Y Jonatán dijo a David: ¿Qué dice tu alma, y lo haré por ti?

5 A nd David saith unto Jonathan, `Lo, the new moon to-morrow; and I do certainly sit with the king to eat; and thou hast sent me away, and I have been hidden in a field till the third evening;

Y David respondió a Jonatán: He aquí que mañana será nueva luna, y yo acostumbro sentarme con el rey a comer; mas tú dejarás que me esconda en el campo hasta la tarde del tercer día.

6 i f thy father at all look after me, and thou hast said, David asked earnestly of me to run to Beth-Lehem his city, for a sacrifice of the days there for all the family.

Si tu padre hiciere mención de mí, dirás: Me rogó mucho que lo dejara ir presto a Belén su ciudad, porque todos los de su linaje tienen allá sacrificio aniversario.

7 I f thus he say: Good; peace for thy servant; and if it be very displeasing to him -- know that the evil hath been determined by him;

Si él dijere: Bien está, paz tendrá tu siervo; mas si se enojare, sabe que la malicia está en él consumada.

8 a nd thou hast done kindness, to thy servant, for into a covenant of Jehovah thou hast brought thy servant with thee; -- and if there is in me iniquity, put thou me to death; and unto thy father, why is this -- thou dost bring me in?'

Harás, pues, misericordia con tu siervo, ya que has traído tu siervo a pacto del SEÑOR contigo; y si hay iniquidad en mí mátame tú, que no hay necesidad de llevarme hasta tu padre.

9 A nd Jonathan saith, `Far be it from thee! for I certainly do not know that the evil hath been determined by my father to come upon thee, and I do not declare it to thee.'

¶ Y Jonatán le dijo: Nunca tal te suceda; antes bien, si yo entendiera ser consumada la malicia de mi padre, para venir sobre ti, ¿no había yo de descubrírtelo?

10 A nd David saith unto Jonathan, `Who doth declare to me? or what thy father doth answer thee sharply?'

Dijo entonces David a Jonatán: ¿Quién me dará aviso? O, ¿ qué si tu padre te respondiere ásperamente?

11 A nd Jonathan saith unto David, `Come, and we go out into the field;' and they go out both of them into the field.

Y Jonatán dijo a David: Ven, salgamos al campo. Y salieron ambos al campo.

12 A nd Jonathan saith unto David, `Jehovah, God of Israel -- when I search my father, about time to-morrow the third, and lo, good towards David, and I do not then send unto thee, and have uncovered thine ear --

Entonces dijo Jonatán a David: Oh SEÑOR Dios de Israel, cuando le haya preguntado a mi padre mañana a esta hora, o al tercer día, y si él me hablare bien de David, si entonces no enviare a ti, y te lo descubriere,

13 t hus doth Jehovah do to Jonathan, and thus doth He add; when the evil concerning thee is good to my father, then I have uncovered thine ear, and sent thee away, and thou hast gone in peace, and Jehovah is with thee, as he was with my father;

el SEÑOR haga así a Jonatán, y esto añada. Mas si a mi padre pareciere bien hacerte mal, también te lo descubriré, y te enviaré, y te irás en paz; y sea el SEÑOR contigo, como fue con mi padre.

14 a nd not only while I am alive dost thou do with me the kindness of Jehovah, and I die not,

Y si yo viviere, harás conmigo misericordia del SEÑOR; mas si fuere muerto,

15 b ut thou dost not cut off thy kindness from my house unto the age, nor in Jehovah's cutting off the enemies of David, each one from off the face of the ground.'

no quitarás perpetuamente tu misericordia de mi casa. Cuando desarraigare el SEÑOR uno por uno los enemigos de David de la tierra, aun a Jonatán quite de su casa, si te faltare; y requiera el SEÑOR de la mano de los enemigos de David.

16 A nd Jonathan covenanteth with the house of David, and Jehovah hath sought from the hand of the enemies of David;

Así hizo Jonatán alianza con la casa de David.

17 a nd Jonathan addeth to cause David to swear, because he loveth him, for with the love of his own soul he hath loved him.

Y volvió Jonatán a jurar a David, porque le amaba, porque le amaba como a su propia alma.

18 A nd Jonathan saith to him, `To-morrow new moon, and thou hast been looked after, for thy seat is looked after;

Le dijo luego Jonatán: Mañana es nueva luna, y tú serás echado de menos, porque tu asiento estará vacío.

19 a nd on the third day thou dost certainly come down, and hast come in unto the place where thou wast hidden in the day of the work, and hast remained near the stone Ezel.

Estarás, pues, tres días, y luego descenderás, y vendrás al lugar donde estabas escondido el día del trabajo, y esperarás junto a la piedra de Ezel;

20 ` And I shoot three of the arrows at the side, sending out for myself at a mark;

y yo tiraré tres saetas hacia aquel lado, como ejercitándome al blanco.

21 a nd lo, I send the youth: Go, find the arrows. If I at all say to the youth, Lo, the arrows on this side of thee -- take them, -- then come thou, for peace for thee, and there is nothing; Jehovah liveth.

Y luego enviaré el criado, diciéndole: Ve, busca las saetas. Y si dijere al criado: He allí las saetas más acá de ti, tómalas; tú vendrás, porque paz tienes, y nada hay de mal, vive el SEÑOR.

22 A nd if thus I say to the young man, Lo, the arrows beyond thee, -- go, for Jehovah hath sent thee away;

Mas si yo dijere al criado así: He allí las saetas más allá de ti; vete, porque el SEÑOR te ha enviado.

23 a s to the thing which we have spoken, I and thou, lo, Jehovah between me and thee -- unto the age.'

Y en cuanto a las palabras que yo y tú hemos hablado, sea el SEÑOR entre mí y ti para siempre.

24 A nd David is hidden in the field, and it is the new moon, and the king sitteth down by the food to eat,

¶ David, pues, se escondió en el campo, y venida que fue la nueva luna, se sentó el rey a comer pan.

25 a nd the king sitteth on his seat, as time by time, on a seat by the wall, and Jonathan riseth, and Abner sitteth at the side of Saul, and David's place is looked after.

Y el rey se sentó en su silla, como solía, en el asiento junto a la pared, y Jonatán se levantó, y se sentó Abner al lado de Saúl, y el lugar de David estaba vacío.

26 A nd Saul hath not spoken anything on that day, for he said, `It an accident; he is not clean -- surely not clean.'

Mas aquel día Saúl no dijo nada, porque se decía: Le habrá acontecido algo, por ventura no está limpio; no estará purificado.

27 A nd it cometh to pass on the second morrow of the new moon, that David's place is looked after, and Saul saith unto Jonathan his son, `Wherefore hath the son of Jesse not come in, either yesterday or to-day, unto the food?'

El día siguiente, el segundo día de la nueva luna, aconteció también que el asiento de David estaba vacío. Y Saúl dijo a Jonatán su hijo: ¿Por qué no ha venido a comer el hijo de Jessé hoy ni ayer?

28 A nd Jonathan answereth Saul, `David hath been earnestly asked of me unto Beth-Lehem,

Y Jonatán respondió a Saúl: David me pidió encarecidamente le dejara ir hasta Belén.

29 a nd he saith, Send me away, I pray thee, for a family sacrifice we have in the city, and my brother himself hath given command to me, and now, if I have found grace in thine eyes, let me go away, I pray thee, and see my brethren; therefore he hath not come unto the table of the king.'

Y dijo: Te ruego que me dejes ir, porque tenemos sacrificio los de nuestro linaje en la ciudad, y mi hermano mismo me lo ha mandado; por tanto, si he hallado gracia en tus ojos, haré una escapada ahora, y visitaré a mis hermanos. Por esto, pues, no ha venido a la mesa del rey.

30 A nd the anger of Saul burneth against Jonathan, and he saith to him, `Son of a perverse rebellious woman! have I not known that thou art fixing on the son of Jesse to thy shame, and to the shame of the nakedness of thy mother?

Entonces Saúl se enardeció contra Jonatán, y le dijo: Hijo de la perversa y rebelde, ¿no sé yo que tú has elegido al hijo de Isaí para confusión tuya, y para confusión de la vergüenza de tu madre?

31 f or all the days that the son of Jesse liveth on the ground thou art not established, thou and thy kingdom; and now, send and bring him unto me, for he a son of death.'

Porque todo el tiempo que el hijo de Jessé viviere sobre la tierra, ni tú serás firme, ni tu reino. Envía pues ahora, y tráemelo, porque ha de morir.

32 A nd Jonathan answereth Saul his father, and saith unto him, `Why is he put to death? what hath he done?'

Y Jonatán respondió a su padre Saúl, y le dijo: ¿Por qué morirá? ¿Qué ha hecho?

33 A nd Saul casteth the javelin at him to smite him, and Jonathan knoweth that it hath been determined by his father to put David to death.

Entonces Saúl le arrojó una lanza para herirlo; de donde entendió Jonatán que su padre estaba determinado a matar a David.

34 A nd Jonathan riseth from the table in the heat of anger, and hath not eaten food on the second day of the new moon, for he hath been grieved for David, for his father put him to shame.

Y se levantó Jonatán de la mesa con exaltada ira, y no comió pan el segundo día de la nueva luna; porque tenía dolor a causa de David; y porque su padre le había afrentado.

35 A nd it cometh to pass in the morning, that Jonathan goeth out into the field for the appointment with David, and a little youth with him.

¶ Al otro día de mañana, salió Jonatán al campo, al tiempo aplazado con David, y un criado pequeño con él.

36 A nd he saith to his youth, `Run, find, I pray thee, the arrows which I am shooting;' the youth is running, and he hath shot the arrow, causing to pass over him.

Y dijo a su criado: Corre y busca las saetas que yo tirare. Y cuando el criado iba corriendo, él tiraba la saeta que pasara más allá de él.

37 A nd the youth cometh unto the place of the arrow which Jonathan hath shot, and Jonathan calleth after the youth, and saith, `Is not the arrow beyond thee?'

Y llegando el criado adonde estaba la saeta que Jonatán había tirado, Jonatán dio voces tras el muchacho, diciendo: ¿No está la saeta más allá de ti?

38 a nd Jonathan calleth after the youth, `Speed, haste, stand not;' and Jonathan's youth gathereth the arrows, and cometh unto his lord.

Y volvió a gritar Jonatán tras el muchacho: Date prisa, aligera, no te pares. Y el criado de Jonatán cogió las saetas, y se vino a su señor.

39 A nd the youth hath not known anything, only Jonathan and David knew the word.

Pero ninguna cosa entendió el criado; solamente Jonatán y David entendían el asunto.

40 A nd Jonathan giveth his weapons unto the youth whom he hath, and saith to him, `Go, carry into the city.'

Luego dio Jonatán sus armas a su criado, y le dijo: Vete y llévalas a la ciudad.

41 T he youth hath gone, and David hath risen from Ezel, at the south, and falleth on his face to the earth, and boweth himself three times, and they kiss one another, and they weep one with another, till David exerted himself;

Y luego que el muchacho se fue, se levantó David de la parte del mediodía, y se inclinó tres veces postrándose hasta la tierra; y besándose el uno al otro, lloraron el uno con el otro, aunque David lloró más.

42 a nd Jonathan saith to David, `Go in peace, in that we have sworn -- we two -- in the name of Jehovah, saying, Jehovah is between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed -- unto the age;' and he riseth and goeth; and Jonathan hath gone in to the city.

Y Jonatán dijo a David: Vete en paz, que ambos hemos jurado por el nombre del SEÑOR, diciendo: El SEÑOR sea entre mí y ti, entre tu simiente y la mía, para siempre. Y él se levantó y se fue; y Jonatán entró en la ciudad.
