1 A nd he said also unto his disciples, `A certain man was rich, who had a steward, and he was accused to him as scattering his goods;

¶ Y dijo también a sus discípulos: Había un hombre rico, el cual tenía un mayordomo, y éste fue acusado delante de él como disipador de sus bienes.

2 a nd having called him, he said to him, What this I hear about thee? render the account of thy stewardship, for thou mayest not any longer be steward.

Y le llamó, y le dijo: ¿Qué es esto que oigo de ti? Da cuenta de tu mayordomía, porque ya no podrás más ser mayordomo.

3 ` And the steward said in himself, What shall I do, because my lord doth take away the stewardship from me? to dig I am not able, to beg I am ashamed: --

Entonces el mayordomo dijo dentro de sí: ¿Qué haré? Que mi señor me quita la mayordomía. Cavar, no puedo; mendigar, tengo vergüenza.

4 I have known what I shall do, that, when I may be removed from the stewardship, they may receive me to their houses.

Yo sé lo que haré para que cuando fuere quitado de la mayordomía, me reciban en sus casas.

5 ` And having called near each one of his lord's debtors, he said to the first, How much dost thou owe to my lord?

Y llamando a cada uno de los deudores de su señor, dijo al primero: ¿Cuánto debes a mi señor?

6 a nd he said, A hundred baths of oil; and he said to him, Take thy bill, and having sat down write fifty.

Y él dijo: Cien batos de aceite. Y le dijo: Toma tu obligación, y siéntate presto, y escribe cincuenta.

7 ` Afterward to another he said, And thou, how much dost thou owe? and he said, A hundred cors of wheat; and he saith to him, Take thy bill, and write eighty.

Después dijo a otro: ¿Y tú, cuánto debes? Y él dijo: Cien coros de trigo. Y él le dijo: Toma tu obligación, y escribe ochenta.

8 ` And the lord commended the unrighteous steward that he did prudently, because the sons of this age are more prudent than the sons of the light, in respect to their generation.

Y alabó el señor al mayordomo malo por haber hecho discretamente; porque los hijos de este siglo son en su generación más prudentes que los hijos de luz.

9 a nd I say to you, Make to yourselves friends out of the mammon of unrighteousness, that when ye may fail, they may receive you to the age-during tabernacles.

Y yo os digo: Haceos amigos con las riquezas de maldad, para que cuando éstas falten, seáis recibidos en las moradas eternas.

10 ` He who is faithful in the least, also faithful in much; and he who in the least unrighteous, is also unrighteous in much;

El que es fiel en lo muy poco, también en lo más es fiel; y el que en lo muy poco es injusto, también en lo más es injusto.

11 i f, then, in the unrighteous mammon ye became not faithful -- the true who will entrust to you?

Pues si en las malas riquezas no fuisteis fieles. ¿Quién os confiará lo verdadero?

12 a nd if in the other's ye became not faithful -- your own, who shall give to you?

Y si en lo ajeno no fuisteis fieles, ¿quién os dará lo que es vuestro?

13 ` No domestic is able to serve two lords, for either the one he will hate, and the other he will love; or one he will hold to, and of the other he will be heedless; ye are not able to serve God and mammon.'

Ningún siervo puede servir a dos señores; porque o aborrecerá al uno y amará al otro, o se allegará al uno y menospreciará al otro. No podéis servir a Dios y a las riquezas.

14 A nd also the Pharisees, being lovers of money, were hearing all these things, and were deriding him,

Y oían también todas estas cosas los fariseos, los cuales eran avaros, y se burlaban de él.

15 a nd he said to them, `Ye are those declaring yourselves righteous before men, but God doth know your hearts; because that which among men is high, abomination before God;

Y les dijo: Vosotros sois los que os justificáis a vosotros mismos delante de los hombres; pero Dios conoce vuestros corazones; porque lo que los hombres tienen por sublime, delante de Dios es abominación.

16 t he law and the prophets till John; since then the reign of God is proclaimed good news, and every one doth press into it;

La ley y los profetas hasta Juan; desde entonces el Reino de Dios es anunciado, y quienquiera se esfuerza a entrar en él.

17 a nd it is easier to the heaven and the earth to pass away, than of the law one tittle to fall.

Pero más fácil cosa es pasar el cielo y la tierra, que frustrarse una tilde de la ley.

18 ` Every one who is sending away his wife, and marrying another, doth commit adultery; and every one who is marrying her sent away from a husband doth commit adultery.

Cualquiera que repudia a su mujer, y se casa con otra, adultera; y el que se casa con la repudiada del marido, adultera.

19 ` And -- a certain man was rich, and was clothed in purple and fine linen, making merry sumptuously every day,

¶ Había un hombre rico, que se vestía de púrpura y de lino fino, y hacía cada día banquete con esplendidez.

20 a nd there was a certain poor man, by name Lazarus, who was laid at his porch, full of sores,

Había también un mendigo llamado Lázaro, el cual estaba echado a la puerta de aquel, lleno de llagas,

21 a nd desiring to be filled from the crumbs that are falling from the table of the rich man; yea, also the dogs, coming, were licking his sores.

y deseando saciarse de las migajas que caían de la mesa del rico; y aun los perros venían y le lamían las llagas.

22 ` And it came to pass, that the poor man died, and that he was carried away by the messengers to the bosom of Abraham -- and the rich man also died, and was buried;

Y aconteció que murió el mendigo, y fue llevado por los ángeles al seno de Abraham; y murió también el rico, y fue sepultado.

23 a nd in the hades having lifted up his eyes, being in torments, he doth see Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom,

Y en el Hades alzó sus ojos, estando en los tormentos, y vio a Abraham de lejos, y a Lázaro en su seno.

24 a nd having cried, he said, Father Abraham, deal kindly with me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and may cool my tongue, because I am distressed in this flame.

Entonces él, dando voces, dijo: Padre Abraham, ten misericordia de mí, y envía a Lázaro que moje la punta de su dedo en agua, y refresque mi lengua; porque soy atormentado en esta llama.

25 ` And Abraham said, Child, remember that thou did receive -- thou -- thy good things in thy life, and Lazarus in like manner the evil things, and now he is comforted, and thou art distressed;

Y le dijo Abraham: Hijo, acuérdate que recibiste tus bienes en tu vida, y Lázaro también males; mas ahora éste es consolado aquí, y tú atormentado.

26 a nd besides all these things, between us and you a great chasm is fixed, so that they who are willing to go over from hence unto you are not able, nor do they from thence to us pass through.

Y además de todo esto, una gran sima está constituida entre nosotros y vosotros, que los que quisieren pasar de aquí a vosotros, no pueden, ni de allá pasar a nosotros.

27 ` And he said, I pray thee, then, father, that thou mayest send him to the house of my father,

Y dijo: Te ruego pues, padre, que le envíes a la casa de mi padre;

28 f or I have five brothers, so that he may thoroughly testify to them, that they also may not come to this place of torment.

porque tengo cinco hermanos; para que les testifique, para que no vengan ellos también a este lugar de tormento.

29 ` Abraham saith to him, They have Moses and the prophets, let them hear them;

Y Abraham le dice: A Moisés y a los profetas tienen; oigan a ellos.

30 a nd he said, No, father Abraham, but if any one from the dead may go unto them, they will reform.

El entonces dijo: No, padre Abraham; mas si alguno fuere a ellos de los muertos, se enmendarán.

31 A nd he said to him, If Moses and the prophets they do not hear, neither if one may rise out of the dead will they be persuaded.'

Mas él le dijo: Si no oyen a Moisés y a los profetas, tampoco se persuadirán, si alguno se levantare de los muertos.
