1 A nd having risen, the whole multitude of them did lead him to Pilate,

¶ Levantándose entonces toda la multitud de ellos, le llevaron a Pilato.

2 a nd began to accuse him, saying, `This one we found perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying himself to be Christ a king.'

Y comenzaron a acusarle, diciendo: A éste hemos hallado que pervierte la nación, y que veda dar tributo a César, diciendo que él es Cristo, un Rey.

3 A nd Pilate questioned him, saying, `Thou art the king of the Jews?' and he answering him, said, `Thou dost say.'

Entonces Pilato le preguntó, diciendo: ¿Eres tú el Rey de los Judíos? Y respondiendo él, dijo: Tú lo dices.

4 A nd Pilate said unto the chief priests, and the multitude, `I find no fault in this man;'

Y Pilato dijo a los príncipes de los sacerdotes, y a la multitud: Ninguna culpa hallo en este hombre.

5 a nd they were the more urgent, saying -- `He doth stir up the people, teaching throughout the whole of Judea -- having begun from Galilee -- unto this place.'

Mas ellos porfiaban, diciendo: Alborota al pueblo, enseñando por toda Judea, comenzando desde Galilea hasta aquí.

6 A nd Pilate having heard of Galilee, questioned if the man is a Galilean,

Entonces Pilato, oyendo de Galilea, preguntó si el hombre era galileo.

7 a nd having known that he is from the jurisdiction of Herod, he sent him back unto Herod, he being also in Jerusalem in those days.

Y como entendió que era de la jurisdicción de Herodes, le remitió a Herodes, el cual también estaba en Jerusalén en aquellos días.

8 A nd Herod having seen Jesus did rejoice exceedingly, for he was wishing for a long to see him, because of hearing many things about him, and he was hoping some sign to see done by him,

Y Herodes, viendo a Jesús, se alegró mucho, porque hacía mucho que deseaba verle; porque había oído de él muchas cosas, y tenía esperanza que le vería hacer alguna señal.

9 a nd was questioning him in many words, and he answered him nothing.

Y le preguntaba con muchas palabras; mas él nada le respondió.

10 A nd the chief priests and the scribes stood vehemently accusing him,

Y estaban los príncipes de los sacerdotes y los escribas acusándole con gran porfía.

11 a nd Herod with his soldiers having set him at nought, and having mocked, having put around him gorgeous apparel, did send him back to Pilate,

Mas Herodes con su corte le menospreció, y escarneció, vistiéndole de una ropa rica; y le volvió a enviar a Pilato.

12 a nd both Pilate and Herod became friends on that day with one another, for they were before at enmity between themselves.

Y fueron hechos amigos entre sí Pilato y Herodes en el mismo día; porque antes eran enemigos entre sí.

13 A nd Pilate having called together the chief priests, and the rulers, and the people,

¶ Entonces Pilato, convocando los príncipes de los sacerdotes, y los magistrados, y el pueblo,

14 s aid unto them, `Ye brought to me this man as perverting the people, and lo, I before you having examined, found in this man no fault in those things ye bring forward against him;

les dijo: Me habéis presentado a éste por hombre que desvía al pueblo; y he aquí, preguntando yo delante de vosotros, no he hallado culpa alguna en este hombre de aquellas de que le acusáis.

15 n o, nor yet Herod, for I sent you back unto him, and lo, nothing worthy of death is having been done by him;

Y ni aun Herodes; porque os remití a él, y he aquí, ninguna cosa digna de muerte ha hecho.

16 h aving chastised, therefore, I will release him,'

Le soltaré, pues, castigado.

17 f or it was necessary for him to release to them one at every feast,

(Y tenía necesidad de soltarles uno en la fiesta.)

18 a nd they cried out -- the whole multitude -- saying, `Away with this one, and release to us Barabbas,'

Mas toda la multitud dio voces a una, diciendo: Quita a éste, y suéltanos a Barrabás.

19 w ho had been, because of a certain sedition made in the city, and murder, cast into prison.

(El cual había sido echado en la cárcel por una sedición hecha en la ciudad, y una muerte.)

20 P ilate again then -- wishing to release Jesus -- called to them,

Y les habló otra vez Pilato, queriendo soltar a Jesús.

21 b ut they were calling out, saying, `Crucify, crucify him.'

Pero ellos volvieron a dar voces, diciendo: Cuélguenle, cuélguenle.

22 A nd he a third time said unto them, `Why, what evil did he? no cause of death did I find in him; having chastised him, then, I will release.'

Y él les dijo la tercera vez: ¿Por qué? ¿Qué mal ha hecho éste? Ninguna culpa de muerte he hallado en él; le castigaré, pues, y le soltaré.

23 A nd they were pressing with loud voices asking him to be crucified, and their voices, and those of the chief priests, were prevailing,

Mas ellos instaban a grandes voces, pidiendo que fuera colgado de un madero. Y las voces de ellos y de los príncipes de los sacerdotes crecían.

24 a nd Pilate gave judgment for their request being done,

Entonces Pilato juzgó que se hiciera lo que ellos pedían;

25 a nd he released him who because of sedition and murder hath been cast into the prison, whom they were asking, and Jesus he gave up to their will.

y les soltó a aquel que había sido echado en la cárcel por sedición y una muerte, al cual habían pedido; y entregó a Jesús a la voluntad de ellos.

26 A nd as they led him away, having taken hold on Simon, a certain Cyrenian, coming from the field, they put on him the cross, to bear behind Jesus.

¶ Y llevándole, tomaron a un Simón cireneo, que venía del campo, y le pusieron encima el madero para que la llevara tras Jesús.

27 A nd there was following him a great multitude of the people, and of women, who also were beating themselves and lamenting him,

Y le seguía una grande multitud del pueblo, y de mujeres, las cuales le lloraban y lamentaban.

28 a nd Jesus having turned unto them, said, `Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but for yourselves weep ye, and for your children;

Mas Jesús, vuelto a ellas, les dijo: Hijas de Jerusalén, no me lloréis a mí, mas llorad por vosotras mismas, y por vuestros hijos.

29 f or, lo, days do come, in which they shall say, Happy the barren, and wombs that did not bare, and paps that did not give suck;

Porque he aquí vendrán días en que dirán: Bienaventuradas las estériles, y los vientres que no engendraron, y los pechos que no criaron.

30 t hen they shall begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us, and to the hills, Cover us; --

Entonces comenzarán a decir a los montes: Caed sobre nosotros; y a los collados: Cubridnos.

31 f or, if in the green tree they do these things -- in the dry what may happen?'

Porque si en el árbol verde hacen estas cosas, ¿en el seco, qué se hará?

32 A nd there were also others -- two evil-doers -- with him, to be put to death;

¶ Y llevaban también con él otros dos, malhechores, a ser muertos.

33 a nd when they came to the place that is called Skull, there they crucified him and the evil-doers, one on the right hand and one on the left.

Y cuando llegaron al lugar que se llama de la Calavera, le colgaron del madero allí, y a los malhechores, uno en un madero a la derecha, y otro a la izquierda.

34 A nd Jesus said, `Father, forgive them, for they have not known what they do;' and parting his garments they cast a lot.

Y Jesús decía: Padre, perdónalos, porque no saben lo que hacen. Y partiendo sus vestidos, echaron suertes.

35 A nd the people were standing, looking on, and the rulers also were sneering with them, saying, `Others he saved, let him save himself, if this be the Christ, the choice one of God.'

Y el pueblo estaba mirando; y se burlaban de él los príncipes con ellos, diciendo: A otros hizo salvos; sálvese a sí, si éste es el Cristo, el escogido de Dios.

36 A nd mocking him also were the soldiers, coming near and offering vinegar to him,

Escarnecían de él también los soldados, acercándose y presentándole vinagre,

37 a nd saying, `If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself.'

Y diciendo: Si tú eres el Rey de los Judíos, sálvate a ti mismo.

38 A nd there was also a superscription written over him, in letters of Greek, and Roman, and Hebrew, `This is the King of the Jews.'

Y había también sobre él un título escrito con letras griegas, y romanas, y hebraicas: ESTE ES EL REY DE LOS JUDÍOS.

39 A nd one of the evil-doers who were hanged, was speaking evil of him, saying, `If thou be the Christ, save thyself and us.'

Y uno de los malhechores que estaban colgados, le injuriaba, diciendo: Si tú eres el Cristo, sálvate a ti mismo y a nosotros.

40 A nd the other answering, was rebuking him, saying, `Dost thou not even fear God, that thou art in the same judgment?

Y respondiendo el otro, le reprendió, diciendo: ¿Ni aun tú temes a Dios, estando en la misma condenación?

41 a nd we indeed righteously, for things worthy of what we did we receive back, but this one did nothing out of place;'

Y nosotros, a la verdad, justamente padecemos; porque recibimos lo que merecieron nuestros hechos; mas éste ningún mal hizo.

42 a nd he said to Jesus, `Remember me, lord, when thou mayest come in thy reign;'

Y dijo a Jesús: Señor, acuérdate de mí cuando vinieres en tu Reino.

43 a nd Jesus said to him, `Verily I say to thee, To-day with me thou shalt be in the paradise.'

Entonces Jesús le dijo: De cierto te digo, que hoy estarás conmigo en el paraíso.

44 A nd it was, as it were, the sixth hour, and darkness came over all the land till the ninth hour,

¶ Y cuando era como la hora sexta, fueron hechas tinieblas sobre toda la tierra hasta la hora novena.

45 a nd the sun was darkened, and the vail of the sanctuary was rent in the midst,

Y el sol se oscureció; y el velo del Templo se rompió por medio.

46 a nd having cried with a loud voice, Jesus said, `Father, to Thy hands I commit my spirit;' and these things having said, he breathed forth the spirit.

Entonces Jesús, clamando a gran voz, dijo: Padre, en tus manos encomiendo mi espíritu. Y habiendo dicho esto, dio el espíritu.

47 A nd the centurion having seen what was done, did glorify God, saying, `Really this man was righteous;'

Cuando el centurión vio lo que había acontecido, dio gloria a Dios, diciendo: Verdaderamente este hombre era justo.

48 a nd all the multitudes who were come together to this sight, beholding the things that came to pass, smiting their breasts did turn back;

Y toda la multitud de los que estaban presentes en este espectáculo, viendo lo que había acontecido, se volvían hiriendo sus pechos.

49 a nd all his acquaintances stood afar off, and women who did follow him from Galilee, beholding these things.

Mas todos sus conocidos, y las mujeres que le habían seguido desde Galilea, estaban lejos mirando estas cosas.

50 A nd lo, a man, by name Joseph, being a counsellor, a man good and righteous,

¶ Y he aquí un varón llamado José, el cual era senador, varón bueno y justo,

51 - - he was not consenting to their counsel and deed -- from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who also himself was expecting the reign of God,

(el cual no había consentido en el consejo ni en los hechos de ellos), de Arimatea, ciudad de la Judea, el cual también esperaba el Reino de Dios.

52 h e, having gone near to Pilate, asked the body of Jesus,

Este llegó a Pilato, y pidió el cuerpo de Jesús.

53 a nd having taken it down, he wrapped it in fine linen, and placed it in a tomb hewn out, where no one was yet laid.

Y quitado, lo envolvió en una sábana, y le puso en un sepulcro que era labrado de piedra, en el cual ninguno aún había sido puesto.

54 A nd the day was a preparation, and sabbath was approaching,

Y era día de la preparación de la Pascua; y estaba para rayar el sábado.

55 a nd the women also who have come with him out of Galilee having followed after, beheld the tomb, and how his body was placed,

Y viniendo también las mujeres que le habían seguido de Galilea, vieron el sepulcro, y cómo fue puesto su cuerpo.

56 a nd having turned back, they made ready spices and ointments, and on the sabbath, indeed, they rested, according to the command.

Y vueltas, aparejaron drogas aromáticas y ungüentos; y reposaron el sábado, conforme al mandamiento.
