1 O n that day there was read in the book of Moses, in the ears of the people, and it hath been found written in it that an Ammonite and Moabite doth not come into the assembly of God -- unto the age,

Aquel día se leyó en el libro de Moisés oyéndolo el pueblo, y fue hallado en él escrito, que los amonitas y moabitas no debían entrar jamás en la congregación de Dios;

2 b ecause they have not come before the sons of Israel with bread and with water, and hire against them Balaam to revile them, and our God turneth the reviling into a blessing.

por cuanto no salieron a recibir a los hijos de Israel con pan y agua, antes alquilaron a Balaam contra ellos, para que los maldijera; mas nuestro Dios volvió la maldición en bendición.

3 A nd it cometh to pass, at their hearing the law, that they separate all the mixed people from Israel.

Y fue que, cuando oyeron la ley, apartaron de Israel toda mistura.

4 A nd before this Eliashib the priest, appointed over chambers of the house of our God, a relation of Tobiah,

Y antes de esto, Eliasib sacerdote, había sido prepósito de la cámara de la Casa de nuestro Dios, pariente de Tobías,

5 a nd he maketh for him a great chamber, and there they were formerly putting the present, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithe of the corn, the new wine, and the oil -- the commanded thing of the Levites, and the singers, and the gatekeepers -- and the heave-offering of the priests.

y le había hecho una gran cámara, en la cual antes guardaban el presente, el incienso, los vasos, el diezmo del grano, del vino y del aceite, que estaba mandado dar a los levitas, a los cantores, y a los porteros; y las ofrendas de los sacerdotes.

6 A nd during all this I was not in Jerusalem, for in the thirty and second year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon did I come unto the king, and at the end of days I have asked of the king,

Mas a todo esto, yo no estaba en Jerusalén; porque el año treinta y dos de Artajerjes rey de Babilonia, vine al rey; y al cabo de días fui enviado del rey.

7 a nd I come in to Jerusalem, and understand concerning the evil that Eliashib hath done for Tobiah, to make to him a chamber in the courts of the house of God,

Y venido a Jerusalén, entendí el mal que había hecho Eliasib en atención a Tobías, haciendo para él cámara en los patios de la Casa de Dios.

8 a nd it is very displeasing to me, and I cast all the vessels of the house of Tobiah without, out of the chamber,

Y me dolió en gran manera; y eché todas las alhajas de la casa de Tobías fuera de la cámara;

9 a nd I speak, and they cleanse the chambers, and I bring back thither the vessels of the house of God with the present and the frankincense.

y dije que limpiaran las cámaras, e hice volver allí las alhajas de la Casa de Dios, el presente y el incienso.

10 A nd I know that the portions of the Levites have not been given, and they flee each to his field -- the Levites and the singers, doing the work.

¶ Y entendí que las partes de los levitas no se les habían dado; y que los levitas y cantores que hacían la obra habían huido cada uno a su heredad.

11 A nd I strive with the prefects, and say, `Wherefore hath the house of God been forsaken?' and I gather them, and set them on their station;

Y reprendí a los magistrados, y dije: ¿Por qué está la Casa de Dios desamparada? Y los junté, y los puse en su lugar.

12 a nd all Judah have brought in the tithe of the corn, and of the new wine, and of the oil, to the treasuries.

Y todo Judá trajo el diezmo del grano, del vino y del aceite, a los cilleros.

13 A nd I appoint treasurers over the treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and Pedaiah of the Levites; and by their hand Hanan son of Zaccur, son of Mattaniah, for stedfast they have been reckoned, and on them to give a portion to their brethren.

Y puse sobre los cilleros a Selemías sacerdote, y a Sadoc escriba, y de los levitas, a Pedaías; y a mano de ellos Hanán hijo de Zacur, hijo de Matanías; porque eran tenidos por fieles, y de ellos eran el repartir a sus hermanos.

14 B e mindful of me, O my God, for this, and do not blot out my kind acts that I have done, for the house of my God, and for its charges.

Acuérdate de mí, oh Dios, en orden a esto, y no raigas mis misericordias que hice en la Casa de mi Dios, y en sus guardas.

15 I n those days I have seen in Judah those treading wine-vats on sabbath, and bringing in the sheaves, and lading on the asses, and also, wine, grapes, and figs, and every burden, yea, they are bringing in to Jerusalem on the sabbath-day, and I testify in the day of their selling provision.

¶ En aquellos días vi en Judá algunos que pisaban en lagares en sábado, y que acarreaban manojos, y cargaban los asnos con vino, y también de uvas, de higos, y de toda carga, y traían a Jerusalén en día de sábado; y les protesté el día que vendían el mantenimiento.

16 A nd the Tyrians have dwelt in it, bringing in fish, and every ware, and selling on sabbath to the sons of Judah and in Jerusalem.

También estaban en ella tirios que traían pescado y toda mercadería, y vendían en sábado a los hijos de Judá en Jerusalén.

17 A nd I strive with the freemen of Judah, and say to them, `What this evil thing that ye are doing, and polluting the sabbath-day?

Y reprendí a los señores de Judá, y les dije: ¿Qué mala cosa es ésta que vosotros hacéis, profanando así el día del sábado?

18 T hus did not your fathers do? and our God bringeth in on us all this evil, and on this city, and ye are adding fierceness on Israel, to pollute the sabbath.'

¿No hicieron así vuestros padres, y trajo nuestro Dios sobre nosotros todo este mal, y sobre esta ciudad? ¿Y vosotros añadís ira sobre Israel profanando el sábado?

19 A nd it cometh to pass, when the gates of Jerusalem have been dark before the sabbath, that I speak, and the doors are shut, and I say, that they do not open them till after the sabbath; and of my servants I have stationed at the gates; there doth not come in a burden on the sabbath-day.

Sucedió pues, que cuando la sombra llegó a las puertas de Jerusalén antes del sábado, dije que se cerraren las puertas, y ordené que no las abrieran hasta después del sábado; y puse a las puertas algunos de mis criados, para que en día de sábado no entraran carga.

20 A nd they lodge -- the merchants and sellers of all ware -- at the outside of Jerusalem, once or twice,

Y se quedaron fuera de Jerusalén una y dos veces los negociantes, y los que vendían toda cosa.

21 a nd I testify against them, and say unto them, `Wherefore are ye lodging over-against the wall? if ye repeat, a hand I put forth upon you;' from that time they have not come in on the sabbath.

Y les protesté, y les dije: ¿Por qué os quedáis vosotros delante del muro? Si lo hacéis otra vez, os echaré mano. Desde entonces no vinieron en sábado.

22 A nd I say to the Levites, that they be cleansed, and, coming in, keeping the gates, to sanctify the sabbath-day. Also, this, remember for me, O my God, and have pity on me, according to the abundance of Thy kindness.

Y dije a los levitas que se purificaran, y vinieran a guardar las puertas, para santificar el día del sábado. También por esto acuérdate de mí, Dios mío, y perdóname según la muchedumbre de tu misericordia.

23 A lso, in those days, I have seen the Jews have settled women of Ashdod, of Ammon, of Moab.

¶ Vi asimismo en aquellos días judíos que habían tomado mujeres de Asdod, amonitas, y moabitas;

24 A nd of their sons, half are speaking Ashdoditish -- and are not knowing to speak Jewish -- and according to the language of people and people.

y sus hijos la mitad hablaban Asdod, y conforme a la lengua de cada pueblo; porque no sabían hablar judaico.

25 A nd I strive with them, and declare them vile, and smite certain of them, and pluck off their hair, and cause them to swear by God, `Ye do not give your daughters to their sons, nor do ye take of their daughters to your sons, and to yourselves.

Y reñí con ellos, y los maldije, y herí a algunos de ellos, y les arranqué los cabellos, y los juramenté, diciendo: No daréis vuestras hijas a sus hijos, y no tomaréis de sus hijas para vuestros hijos, o para vosotros.

26 ` By these did not Solomon king of Israel sin? and among the many nations there was no king like him, and beloved by his God he was, and God maketh him king over all Israel -- even him did the strange women cause to sin.

¿No pecó por esto Salomón, rey de Israel? Bien que en muchas naciones no hubo rey como él, que era amado de su Dios y Dios lo había puesto por rey sobre todo Israel, aun a él hicieron ofender las mujeres extranjeras.

27 A nd to you do we hearken to do all this great evil, to trespass against our God, to settle strange women?'

¿Y escucharemos a vosotros para cometer todo este mal tan grande de prevaricar contra nuestro Dios, tomando mujeres extranjeras?

28 A nd of the sons of Joiada son of Eliashib the high priest, son-in-law to Sanballat the Horonite, and I cause him to flee from off me.

Y uno de los hijos de Joiada, hijo de Eliasib el sumo sacerdote era yerno de Sanbalat horonita; por tanto lo ahuyenté de mí.

29 B e mindful of them, O my God, for the redeemed of the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood, and of the Levites.

Acuérdate de ellos, Dios mío, contra los que contaminan el sacerdocio, y el pacto del sacerdocio y de los levitas.

30 A nd I have cleansed them from every stranger, and appoint charges to priests and to Levites, each in his work,

Los limpié, pues, de todo extranjero, y puse las ordenanzas a los sacerdotes y levitas, a cada uno en su obra;

31 a nd for the wood-offering at appointed times, and for first-fruits. Be mindful of me, O my God, for good.

y para la ofrenda de la leña en los tiempos señalados, y para las primicias. Acuérdate de mí, Dios mío, para bien.
