1 A nd there is a great cry of the people and their wives, concerning their brethren the Jews,

Entonces fue grande el clamor del pueblo y de sus mujeres contra los judíos sus hermanos.

2 y ea, there are who are saying, `Our sons, and our daughters, we -- are many, and we receive corn, and eat, and live.'

Y había quien decía: Nosotros, nuestros hijos y nuestras hijas, somos muchos; por tanto, hemos comprado grano para comer y vivir.

3 A nd there are who are saying, `Our fields, and our vineyards, and our houses, we are pledging, and we receive corn for the famine.'

Y había quienes decían: Hemos empeñado nuestras tierras, y nuestras viñas, y nuestras casas, para comprar grano en el hambre.

4 A nd there are who are saying, `We have borrowed money for the tribute of the king, our fields, and our vineyards;

Y había quienes decían: Hemos tomado prestado dinero para el tributo del rey, sobre nuestras tierras y viñas.

5 a nd now, as the flesh of our brethren our flesh, as their sons our sons, and lo, we are subduing our sons and our daughters for servants, and there are of our daughters subdued, and our hand hath no might, and our fields and our vineyards to others.'

Y ahora, dado que la carne de nuestros hermanos es como nuestra carne, y sus hijos son como nuestros hijos; y he aquí que nosotros sujetamos nuestros hijos y nuestras hijas a esclavitud, y hay algunas de nuestras hijas sujetas; mas no hay facultad en nuestras manos para rescatarlas, porquenuestras tierras y nuestras viñas son de otros.

6 A nd it is very displeasing to me when I have heard their cry and these words,

Y me enojé en gran manera cuando oí su clamor y estas palabras.

7 a nd my heart reigneth over me, and I strive with the freemen, and with the prefects, and say to them, `Usury one upon another ye are exacting;' and I set against them a great assembly,

Entonces lo medité para conmigo, y reprendí a los principales y a los magistrados, y les dije: ¿Tomáis cada uno usura de vuestros hermanos? Y convoqué contra ellos una gran asamblea.

8 a nd say to them, `We have acquired our brethren the Jews, those sold to the nations, according to the ability that in us, and ye also sell your brethren, and they have been sold to us!' and they are silent, and have not found a word.

Y les dije: Nosotros rescatamos a nuestros hermanos judíos que habían sido vendidos a los gentiles, conforme a la facultad que había en nosotros, ¿y vosotros aun vendéis a vuestros hermanos, y serán vendidos a nosotros? Y callaron, pues no tuvieron qué responder.

9 A nd I say, `Not good the thing that ye are doing; in the fear of our God do ye not walk, because of the reproach of the nations our enemies?

Y dije: No está bien lo que hacéis, ¿no andaréis en temor de nuestro Dios, por no ser el oprobio de los gentiles enemigos nuestros?

10 A nd also, I, my brethren, and my servants, are exacting of them silver and corn; let us leave off, I pray you, this usury.

También yo, mis hermanos, y mis criados, les hemos prestado dinero y grano; soltémosles ahora de esta carga.

11 G ive back, I pray you, to them, as to-day, their fields, their vineyards, their olive-yards, and their houses, and the hundredth of the money, and of the corn, of the new wine, and of the oil, that ye are exacting of them.'

Os ruego que les devolváis hoy sus tierras, sus viñas, sus olivares, y sus casas, y hasta la centésima parte del dinero y del grano, del vino y del aceite que demandáis de ellos.

12 A nd they say, `We give back, and of them we seek nothing; so we do as thou art saying.' And I call the priests, and cause them to swear to do according to this thing;

Y dijeron: Devolveremos, y nada les demandaremos; haremos así como tú dices. Entonces convoqué a los sacerdotes, y los juramenté que harían conforme a esta promesa.

13 a lso, my lap I have shaken, and I say, `Thus doth God shake out every man, who doth not perform this thing, from his house, and from his labour; yea, thus is he shaken out and empty;' and all the assembly say, `Amen,' and praise Jehovah; and the people do according to this thing.

Además sacudí mi vestido, y dije: Así sacuda Dios de su casa y de su hacienda a todo varón que no cumpliere esto, y así sea sacudido y vacío. Y respondió toda la congregación: ¡Amén! Y alabaron al SEÑOR. Y el pueblo hizo conforme a esta promesa.

14 A lso, from the day that he appointed me to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even unto the thirty and second year of Artaxerxes the king -- twelve years -- I, and my brethren, the bread of the governor have not eaten:

También desde el día que me mandó el rey que fuera capitán de ellos en la tierra de Judá, desde el año veinte del rey Artajerjes hasta el año treinta y dos, doce años, ni yo, ni mis hermanos comimos el pan del capitán.

15 t he former governors who before me have made themselves heavy on the people, and take of them in bread and wine, besides in silver forty shekels; also, their servants have ruled over the people -- and I have not done so, because of the fear of God.

Mas los primeros capitanes que fueron antes de mí, cargaron al pueblo, y tomaron de ellos por el pan y por el vino sobre cuarenta siclos de plata; a más de esto, sus criados se enseñoreaban sobre el pueblo; pero yo no hice así, a causa del temor de Dios.

16 A nd also, in the work of this wall I have done mightily, even a field we have not bought, and all my servants are gathered there for the work;

Además de esto, en la obra de este muro restauré mi parte, y no compramos heredad; y todos mis criados juntos estaban allí a la obra.

17 a nd of the Jews, and of the prefects, a hundred and fifty men, and those coming in unto us of the nations that round about us, at my table;

También tuve ciento cincuenta hombres de los judíos y magistrados, y los que venían a nosotros de los gentiles que están en nuestros contornos a mi mesa.

18 a nd that which hath been prepared for one day one ox, six fat sheep, also fowls have been prepared for me, and once in ten days of all wines abundantly, and with this, the bread of the governor I have not sought, for heavy is the service on this people.

Y lo que se aderezaba para cada día era un buey, seis ovejas escogidas, y aves también se aparejaban para mí, y cada diez días vino en toda abundancia; y con todo esto nunca requerí el pan del capitán, porque la servidumbre de este pueblo era grave.

19 R emember for me, O my God, for good, all that I have done for this people.

Acuérdate de mí para bien, Dios mío, y de todo lo que hice a este pueblo.
