1 A nd a messenger of Jehovah goeth up from Gilgal unto Bochim,

¶ Y el ángel del SEÑOR subió de Gilgal a Boquim, y dijo: Yo os saqué de Egipto, y os introduje en la tierra de la cual había jurado a vuestros padres; y dije: No invalidaré jamás mi pacto con vosotros;

2 a nd saith, `I cause you to come up out of Egypt, and bring you in unto the land which I have sworn to your fathers, and say, I do not break My covenant with you to the age; and ye -- ye make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land -- their altars ye break down; and ye have not hearkened to My voice -- what this ye have done?

con tal que vosotros no hagáis pacto con los moradores de esta tierra, antes habéis de destruir sus altares; mas vosotros no habéis oído mi voz; ¿por qué habéis hecho esto?

3 A nd I also have said, I do not cast them out from your presence, and they have been to you for adversaries, and their gods are to you for a snare.'

Por tanto yo también dije: No los echaré de delante de vosotros, sino que os serán por azote para vuestros costados, y sus dioses por tropezadero.

4 A nd it cometh to pass, when the messenger of Jehovah speaketh these words unto all the sons of Israel, that the people lift up their voice and weep,

Y cuando el ángel del SEÑOR habló estas palabras a todos los hijos de Israel, el pueblo lloró en alta voz.

5 a nd they call the name of that place Bochim, and sacrifice there to Jehovah.

Y llamaron por nombre aquel lugar Boquim; y sacrificaron allí al SEÑOR.

6 A nd Joshua sendeth the people away, and the sons of Israel go, each to his inheritance, to possess the land;

¶ Porque ya Josué había despedido al pueblo, y los hijos de Israel se habían ido cada uno a su herencia para poseer la tierra.

7 a nd the people serve Jehovah all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who prolonged days after Joshua, who saw all the great work of Jehovah which He did to Israel.

Y el pueblo había servido al SEÑOR todo el tiempo de Josué, y todo el tiempo de los ancianos que vivieron largos días después de Josué, los cuales habían visto todas las grandes obras del SEÑOR, que él había hecho con Israel.

8 A nd Joshua son of Nun, servant of Jehovah, dieth, a son of a hundred and ten years,

Y murió Josué hijo de Nun, siervo del SEÑOR, siendo de ciento diez años.

9 a nd they bury him in the border of his inheritance, in Timnath-Heres, in the hill-country of Ephraim, on the north of mount Gaash;

Y lo enterraron en el término de su heredad en Timnat-sera, en el monte de Efraín, al norte del monte de Gaas.

10 a nd also all that generation have been gathered unto their fathers, and another generation riseth after them who have not known Jehovah, and even the work which He hath done to Israel.

Y toda aquella generación fue también recogida con sus padres. Y se levantó después de ellos otra generación, que no conocía al SEÑOR, ni la obra que él había hecho a Israel.

11 A nd the sons of Israel do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and serve the Baalim,

Y los hijos de Israel hicieron lo malo ante los ojos del SEÑOR, y sirvieron a los baales.

12 a nd forsake Jehovah, God of their fathers, who bringeth them out from the land of Egypt, and go after other gods (of the gods of the peoples who round about them), and bow themselves to them, and provoke Jehovah,

Y dejaron al SEÑOR el Dios de sus padres, que los había sacado de la tierra de Egipto, y se fueron tras otros dioses, tras los dioses de los pueblos que estaban en sus alrededores, a los cuales adoraron; y provocaron a ira al SEÑOR.

13 y ea, they forsake Jehovah, and do service to Baal and to Ashtaroth.

Y dejaron al SEÑOR, y adoraron a Baal y a Astarot.

14 A nd the anger of Jehovah burneth against Israel, and He giveth them into the hand of spoilers, and they spoil them, and He selleth them into the hand of their enemies round about, and they have not been able any more to stand before their enemies;

Y el furor del SEÑOR se encendió contra Israel, el cual los entregó en manos de salteadores que les robaron, y los vendió en manos de sus enemigos de alrededor; y no pudieron parar más delante de sus enemigos.

15 i n every where they have gone out, the hand of Jehovah hath been against them for evil, as Jehovah hath spoken, and as Jehovah hath sworn to them, and they are distressed -- greatly.

Por dondequiera que salían, la mano del SEÑOR era contra ellos para mal, como el SEÑOR había dicho, y como el SEÑOR lo había jurado; así los afligió en gran manera.

16 A nd Jehovah raiseth up judges, and they save them from the hand of their spoilers;

Mas el SEÑOR despertó jueces que los libraran de mano de los que les saqueaban.

17 a nd also unto their judges they have not hearkened, but have gone a-whoring after other gods, and bow themselves to them; they have turned aside haste out of the way which their fathers walked to obey the commands of Jehovah -- they have not done so.

Y tampoco oyeron a sus jueces, sino que fornicaron tras dioses ajenos, a los cuales adoraron; y se apartaron muy pronto del camino en que anduvieron sus padres escuchando los mandamientos del SEÑOR; mas ellos no lo hicieron así.

18 A nd when Jehovah raised up to them judges -- then was Jehovah with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for it repenteth Jehovah, because of their groaning from the presence of their oppressors, and of those thrusting them away.

Y cuando el SEÑOR les despertaba jueces, el SEÑOR era con el juez, y los libraba de mano de los enemigos todo el tiempo de aquel juez; porque el SEÑOR se arrepentía por sus gemidos a causa de los que los oprimían y afligían.

19 A nd it hath come to pass, at the death of the judge -- they turn back and have done corruptly above their fathers, to go after other gods, to serve them, and to bow themselves to them; they have not fallen from their doings, and from their stiff way.

Mas al morir el juez, ellos se volvían, y se corrompían más que sus padres, siguiendo a dioses ajenos para servirles, e inclinándose delante de ellos; y nada disminuían de sus obras, ni de su obstinado camino.

20 A nd the anger of Jehovah doth burn against Israel, and He saith, `Because that this nation have transgressed My covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened to My voice --

Y la ira del SEÑOR se encendió contra Israel, y dijo: Pues que esta gente traspasa mi pacto que ordené a sus padres, y no escuchan mi voz,

21 I also continue not to dispossess any from before them of the nations which Joshua hath left when he dieth,

tampoco yo echaré más de delante de ellos a ninguno de estos gentiles que dejó Josué cuando murió;

22 i n order to try Israel by them, whether they are keeping the way of Jehovah, to go in it, as their fathers kept or not.'

para que por ellos probara yo a Israel, si guardarían ellos el camino del SEÑOR andando en él, como sus padres lo guardaron, o no.

23 A nd Jehovah leaveth these nations, so as not to dispossess them hastily, and did not give them into the hand of Joshua.

Por esto dejó el SEÑOR aquellos gentiles, y no los desarraigó luego, ni los entregó en mano de Josué.
