1 A nd Ahab declareth to Jezebel all that Elijah did, and all how he slew all the prophets by the sword,

Y Acab dio la nueva a Jezabel de todo lo que Elías había hecho, de como había matado a espada a todos los profetas.

2 a nd Jezebel sendeth a messenger unto Elijah, saying, `Thus doth the gods, and thus do they add, surely about this time to-morrow, I make thy life as the life of one of them.'

Entonces envió Jezabel a Elías un mensajero, diciendo: Así me hagan los dioses, y así me añadan, si mañana a estas horas yo no haya puesto tu persona como la de uno de ellos.

3 A nd he feareth, and riseth, and goeth for his life, and cometh in to Beer-Sheba, that Judah's, and leaveth his young man there,

Y viendo eso se levantó y se fue para salvar su vida, y vino a Beerseba, que es en Judá, y dejó allí su criado.

4 a nd he himself hath gone into the wilderness a day's Journey, and cometh and sitteth under a certain retem-tree, and desireth his soul to die, and saith, `Enough, now, O Jehovah, take my soul, for I not better than my fathers.'

Y él se fue por el desierto un día de camino, y vino y se sentó debajo de un enebro; y deseando morirse, dijo: Baste ya, oh SEÑOR, quita mi vida; que no soy yo mejor que mis padres.

5 A nd he lieth down and sleepeth under a certain retem-tree, and lo, a messenger cometh against him, and saith to him, `Rise, eat;'

Y echándose debajo del enebro, se quedó dormido: y he aquí luego un ángel que le tocó, y le dijo: Levántate, come.

6 a nd he looketh attentively, and lo, at his bolster a cake burning stones, and a dish of water, and he eateth, and drinketh, and turneth, and lieth down.

Entonces él miró, y he aquí a su cabecera una torta cocida sobre las ascuas, y un vaso de agua; y comió y bebió y se volvió a dormir.

7 A nd the messenger of Jehovah turneth back a second time, and cometh against him, and saith, `Rise, eat, for the way is too great for thee;'

Y volviendo el ángel del SEÑOR la segunda vez, le tocó, diciendo: Levántate, come; porque gran camino te resta.

8 a nd he riseth, and eateth, and drinketh, and goeth in the power of that food forty days and forty nights, unto the mount of God -- Horeb.

Se levantó, pues, y comió y bebió; y caminó con la fortaleza de aquella comida cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, hasta el monte de Dios, Horeb.

9 A nd he cometh in there, unto the cave, and lodgeth there, and lo, the word of Jehovah unto him, and saith to him, `What -- to thee, here, Elijah?'

¶ Y allí se metió en una cueva, donde pasó la noche. Y vino a él palabra del SEÑOR, el cual le dijo: ¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?

10 A nd he saith, `I have been very zealous for Jehovah, God of Hosts, for the sons of Israel have forsaken Thy covenant -- Thine altars they have thrown down, and Thy prophets they have slain by the sword, and I am left, I, by myself, and they seek my life -- to take it.'

Y él respondió: He sentido un vivo celo por el SEÑOR Dios de los ejércitos; porque los hijos de Israel han dejado tu pacto, han derribado tus altares, y han matado a espada tus profetas; y yo solo he quedado, y me buscan para quitarme la vida.

11 A nd He saith, `Go out, and thou hast stood in the mount before Jehovah.' And lo, Jehovah is passing by, and a wind -- great and strong -- is rending mountains, and shivering rocks before Jehovah: -- not in the wind Jehovah; and after the wind a shaking: -- not in the shaking Jehovah;

Y él le dijo: Sal fuera, y ponte en el monte delante del SEÑOR. Y he aquí el SEÑOR que pasaba, y un gran y poderoso viento que rompía los montes, y quebraba las peñas delante del SEÑOR; mas el SEÑOR no estaba en el viento. Y tras el viento un terremoto; mas el SEÑOR no estaba en el terremoto.

12 a nd after the shaking a fire: -- not in the fire Jehovah; and after the fire a voice still small;

Y tras el terremoto un fuego; mas el SEÑOR no estaba en el fuego. Y tras el fuego una voz apacible y delicada.

13 a nd it cometh to pass, at Elijah's hearing, that he wrappeth his face in his robe, and goeth out, and standeth at the opening of the cave, and lo, unto him a voice, and it saith, `What -- to thee, here, Elijah?'

La cual cuando Elías la oyó, cubrió su rostro con su manto, y salió, y se puso en pie a la puerta de la cueva. Y he aquí llegó una voz a él, diciendo: ¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?

14 A nd he saith, `I have been very zealous for Jehovah, God of Hosts; for the sons of Israel have forsaken Thy covenant, Thine altars they have thrown down, and Thy prophets they have slain by the sword, and I am left, I, by myself, and they seek my life -- to take it.'

Y él respondió: He sentido un vivo celo por el SEÑOR Dios de los ejércitos; porque los hijos de Israel han dejado tu pacto, han derribado tus altares, y han matado a espada tus profetas; y yo solo he quedado, y me buscan para quitarme la vida.

15 A nd Jehovah saith unto him, `Go turn back on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus, and thou hast gone in, and anointed Hazael for king over Aram,

Y le dijo el SEÑOR: Ve, vuélvete por tu camino, por el desierto de Damasco; y llegarás, y ungirás a Hazael por rey de Siria;

16 a nd Jehu son of Nimshi thou dost anoint for king over Israel, and Elisha son of Shaphat, of Abel-Meholah, thou dost anoint for prophet in thy stead.

y a Jehú hijo de Nimsi, ungirás por rey sobre Israel; y a Eliseo hijo de Safat, de Abel-mehola, ungirás para que sea profeta en lugar de ti.

17 ` And it hath been, him who is escaped from the sword of Hazael, put to death doth Jehu, and him who is escaped from the sword of Jehu put to death doth Elisha;

Y será, que el que escapare de la espada, de Hazael, Jehú lo matará; y el que escapare de la espada de Jehú, Eliseo lo matará.

18 a nd I have left in Israel seven thousand, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that hath not kissed him.'

Y yo haré que queden en Israel siete mil; todas las rodillas que no se encorvaron ante Baal, y todas las bocas que no lo besaron.

19 A nd he goeth thence, and findeth Elisha son of Shaphat, and he is plowing; twelve yoke before him, and he with the twelfth; and Elijah passeth over unto him, and casteth his robe upon him,

¶ Y partiendo él de allí, halló a Eliseo hijo de Safat, que araba con doce yuntas delante de sí; y él era uno de los doce gañanes. Y pasando Elías por delante de él, echó su manto sobre él.

20 a nd he forsaketh the oxen, and runneth after Elijah, and saith, `Let me give a kiss, I pray thee, to my father and to my mother, and I go after thee.' And he saith to him, `Go, turn back, for what have I done to thee?'

Entonces dejando él los bueyes, vino corriendo en pos de Elías, y dijo: Te ruego que me dejes besar a mi padre y a mi madre, y luego te seguiré. Y él le dijo: Ve, vuelve: ¿qué te he hecho yo?

21 A nd he turneth back from after him, and taketh the yoke of oxen, and sacrificeth it, and with instruments of the oxen he hath boiled their flesh, and giveth to the people, and they eat, and he riseth, and goeth after Elijah, and serveth him.

Y se volvió de en pos de él, y tomó un par de bueyes, y los mató, y con el equipo de los bueyes coció la carne de ellos, y la dio al pueblo que comieran. Después se levantó, y fue tras Elías, y le servía.
