1 A nd he said also unto his disciples, `A certain man was rich, who had a steward, and he was accused to him as scattering his goods;

Оповів же Він й учням Своїм: Один чоловік був багатий, і мав управителя, що оскаржений був перед ним, ніби він переводить маєток його.

2 a nd having called him, he said to him, What this I hear about thee? render the account of thy stewardship, for thou mayest not any longer be steward.

І він покликав його, і до нього сказав: Що це чую про тебе? Дай звіт про своє управительство, бо більше не зможеш рядити.

3 ` And the steward said in himself, What shall I do, because my lord doth take away the stewardship from me? to dig I am not able, to beg I am ashamed: --

І управитель почав міркувати собі: Що я маю робити, коли пан управительство відійме від мене? Копати не можу, просити соромлюсь.

4 I have known what I shall do, that, when I may be removed from the stewardship, they may receive me to their houses.

Знаю, що я зроблю, щоб мене прийняли до домів своїх, коли буду я скинений із управительства.

5 ` And having called near each one of his lord's debtors, he said to the first, How much dost thou owe to my lord?

І закликав він нарізно кожного з боржників свого пана, та й питається першого: Скільки винен ти панові моєму?

6 a nd he said, A hundred baths of oil; and he said to him, Take thy bill, and having sat down write fifty.

А той відказав: Сто кадок оливи. І сказав він йому: Візьми ось розписку свою, швидко сідай та й пиши: п'ятдесят.

7 ` Afterward to another he said, And thou, how much dost thou owe? and he said, A hundred cors of wheat; and he saith to him, Take thy bill, and write eighty.

А потім питається другого: А ти скільки винен? І той відказав: Сто кірців пшениці. І сказав він йому: Візьми ось розписку свою й напиши: вісімдесят.

8 ` And the lord commended the unrighteous steward that he did prudently, because the sons of this age are more prudent than the sons of the light, in respect to their generation.

І пан похвалив управителя цього невірного, що він мудро вчинив. Бо сини цього світу в своїм поколінні мудріші, аніж сини світла.

9 a nd I say to you, Make to yourselves friends out of the mammon of unrighteousness, that when ye may fail, they may receive you to the age-during tabernacles.

І Я вам кажу: Набувайте друзів собі від багатства неправедного, щоб, коли проминеться воно, прийняли вас до вічних осель.

10 ` He who is faithful in the least, also faithful in much; and he who in the least unrighteous, is also unrighteous in much;

Хто вірний в найменшому, і в великому вірний; і хто несправедливий в найменшому, і в великому несправедливий.

11 i f, then, in the unrighteous mammon ye became not faithful -- the true who will entrust to you?

Отож, коли в несправедливім багатстві ви не були вірні, хто вам правдиве довірить?

12 a nd if in the other's ye became not faithful -- your own, who shall give to you?

І коли ви в чужому не були вірні, хто ваше вам дасть?

13 ` No domestic is able to serve two lords, for either the one he will hate, and the other he will love; or one he will hold to, and of the other he will be heedless; ye are not able to serve God and mammon.'

Жаден раб не може служить двом панам, бо або одного зненавидить, а другого буде любити, або буде триматись одного, а другого знехтує. Не можете Богові й мамоні служити!

14 A nd also the Pharisees, being lovers of money, were hearing all these things, and were deriding him,

Чули все це й фарисеї, що були сріблолюбці, та й стали сміятися з Нього.

15 a nd he said to them, `Ye are those declaring yourselves righteous before men, but God doth know your hearts; because that which among men is high, abomination before God;

Він же промовив до них: Ви себе видаєте за праведних перед людьми, але ваші серця знає Бог. Що бо високе в людей, те перед Богом гидота.

16 t he law and the prophets till John; since then the reign of God is proclaimed good news, and every one doth press into it;

Закон і Пророки були до Івана; відтоді Царство Боже благовіститься, і кожен силкується втиснутись в нього.

17 a nd it is easier to the heaven and the earth to pass away, than of the law one tittle to fall.

Легше небо й земля проминеться, аніж одна риса з Закону загине.

18 ` Every one who is sending away his wife, and marrying another, doth commit adultery; and every one who is marrying her sent away from a husband doth commit adultery.

Кожен, хто дружину свою відпускає, і бере собі іншу, той чинить перелюб. І хто побереться з тією, яку хто відпустив, той чинить перелюб.

19 ` And -- a certain man was rich, and was clothed in purple and fine linen, making merry sumptuously every day,

Один чоловік був багатий, і зодягався в порфіру й віссон, і щоденно розкішно бенкетував.

20 a nd there was a certain poor man, by name Lazarus, who was laid at his porch, full of sores,

Був і вбогий один, на ім'я йому Лазар, що лежав у воріт його, струпами вкритий,

21 a nd desiring to be filled from the crumbs that are falling from the table of the rich man; yea, also the dogs, coming, were licking his sores.

і бажав годуватися кришками, що зо столу багатого падали; пси ж приходили й рани лизали йому...

22 ` And it came to pass, that the poor man died, and that he was carried away by the messengers to the bosom of Abraham -- and the rich man also died, and was buried;

Та ось сталось, що вбогий умер, і на Авраамове лоно віднесли його Анголи. Умер же й багатий, і його поховали.

23 a nd in the hades having lifted up his eyes, being in torments, he doth see Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom,

І, терплячи муки в аду, звів він очі свої, та й побачив здаля Авраама та Лазаря на лоні його.

24 a nd having cried, he said, Father Abraham, deal kindly with me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and may cool my tongue, because I am distressed in this flame.

І він закричав та сказав: Змилуйся, отче Аврааме, надо мною, і пошли мені Лазаря, нехай умочить у воду кінця свого пальця, і мого язика прохолодить, бо я мучуся в полум'ї цім!...

25 ` And Abraham said, Child, remember that thou did receive -- thou -- thy good things in thy life, and Lazarus in like manner the evil things, and now he is comforted, and thou art distressed;

Авраам же промовив: Згадай, сину, що ти вже прийняв за життя свого добре своє, а Лазар так само лихе; тепер він тут тішиться, а ти мучишся.

26 a nd besides all these things, between us and you a great chasm is fixed, so that they who are willing to go over from hence unto you are not able, nor do they from thence to us pass through.

А крім того всього, поміж нами та вами велика безодня поставлена, так що ті, що хочуть, переходити не можуть ізвідси до вас, ані не переходять ізвідти до нас.

27 ` And he said, I pray thee, then, father, that thou mayest send him to the house of my father,

А він відказав: Отож, отче, благаю тебе, щоб його ти послав у дім батька мого,

28 f or I have five brothers, so that he may thoroughly testify to them, that they also may not come to this place of torment.

бо п'ятьох братів маю, хай він їм засвідчить, щоб і вони не прийшли на це місце страждання!

29 ` Abraham saith to him, They have Moses and the prophets, let them hear them;

Авраам же сказав: Вони мають Мойсея й Пророків, нехай слухають їх!

30 a nd he said, No, father Abraham, but if any one from the dead may go unto them, they will reform.

А він відказав: Ні ж бо, отче Аврааме, але коли прийде хто з мертвих до них, то покаються.

31 A nd he said to him, If Moses and the prophets they do not hear, neither if one may rise out of the dead will they be persuaded.'

Йому ж він відказав: Як Мойсея й Пророків не слухають, то коли хто й із мертвих воскресне, не йнятимуть віри!
