1 A nd the sons of Israel add to do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and Jehovah giveth them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

А Ізраїлеві сини й далі робили зло в Господніх очах. І Господь віддав їх у руку филистимлян на сорок літ.

2 A nd there is a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danite, and his name Manoah, his wife barren, and hath not borne;

І був один чоловік з Цар'ї, данівець з роду, а ім'я йому Маноах. А жінка його була неплідна, і не родила.

3 a nd a messenger of Jehovah appeareth unto the woman, and saith unto her, `Lo, I pray thee, thou barren, and hast not borne; when thou hast conceived, then thou hast borne a son.

І явився Ангол Господній до тієї жінки, та й промовив до неї: Ось ти неплідна, і не роджала, але ти зачнеш і породиш сина.

4 A nd, now, take heed, I pray thee, and do not drink wine, and strong drink, and do not eat any unclean thing,

А тепер стережись, і не пий вина та п'янкого напою, і не їж нічого нечистого,

5 f or, lo, thou art conceiving and bearing a son, and a razor doth not go up on his head, for a Nazarite to God is the youth from the womb, and he doth begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.'

бо ось ти зачнеш, і сина породиш, і бритва не торкнеться його голови, бо дитя те буде Божим назореєм від утроби, і він зачне спасати Ізраїля з руки филистимлян.

6 A nd the woman cometh and speaketh to her husband, saying, `A man of God hath come unto me, and his appearance as the appearance of a messenger of God, very fearful, and I have not asked him whence he, and his name he hath not declared to me;

І прийшла та жінка, та й сказала до чоловіка свого, говорячи: Божий чоловік приходив до мене, а вигляд його як вигляд Божого Ангола, дуже грізний. І я не питала його, звідки він, а ймення свого він мені не сказав.

7 a nd he saith to me, Lo, thou art pregnant, and bearing a son, and now do not drink wine and strong drink, and do not eat any unclean thing, for a Nazarite to God is the youth from the womb till the day of his death.'

І сказав він мені: Ось ти зачнеш, і породиш сина, а тепер не пий вина та п'янкого напою, і не їж жодної нечистости, бо дитя те буде Божим назореєм від утроби аж до дня смерти своєї.

8 A nd Manoah maketh entreaty unto Jehovah, and saith, `O, my Lord, the man of God whom Thou didst send, let him come in, I pray thee, again unto us, and direct us what we do to the youth who is born.'

І благав Маноах Господа, та й сказав: О Господи, Божий чоловік, що його посилав Ти, нехай прийде ще до нас, і нехай нас навчить, що ми зробимо для дитини, що народиться.

9 A nd God hearkeneth to the voice of Manoah, and the messenger of God cometh again unto the woman, and she sitting in a field, and Manoah her husband is not with her,

І вислухав Бог цей Маноахів голос, і прийшов Божий Ангол ще до тієї жінки. А вона сиділа на полі, і Маноаха, чоловіка її, не було з нею.

10 a nd the woman hasteth, and runneth, and declareth to her husband, and saith unto him, `Lo, he hath appeared unto me -- the man who came on day unto me.'

І поспішила та жінка, і побігла та й оповіла чоловікові своєму, і сказала до нього: Ось з'явився мені той чоловік, що приходив був того дня до мене.

11 A nd Manoah riseth, and goeth after his wife, and cometh unto the man, and saith to him, `Art thou the man who spake unto the woman?' and he saith, `I.'

І встав, і пішов Маноах за своєю жінкою, і прийшов до того чоловіка, та й сказав йому: Чи ти той чоловік, що говорив до цієї жінки? А той сказав: Я.

12 A nd Manoah saith, `Now let thy words come to pass; what is the custom of the youth -- and his work?'

І сказав Маноах: Тепер нехай сповниться слово твоє. Та як нам виховувати ту дитину, і що чинити з нею?

13 A nd the messenger of Jehovah saith unto Manoah, `Of all that I said unto the woman let her take heed;

І сказав Ангол Господній до Маноаха: Усього, що сказав я жінці, нехай вона стережеться.

14 o f anything which cometh out from the wine-vine she doth not eat, and wine and strong drink she doth not drink, and any unclean thing she doth not eat; all that I have commanded her she doth observe.'

Усього, що виходить із виноградного куща, не буде вона їсти, а вина та напою п'янкого нехай не п'є, і нічого нечистого нехай не їсть. Нехай додержує всього, що я наказав.

15 A nd Manoah saith unto the messenger of Jehovah, `Let us detain thee, we pray thee, and prepare before thee a kid of the goats.'

І сказав Маноах до Ангола Господнього: Нехай ми задержимо тебе, і приготовимо для тебе козля.

16 A nd the messenger of Jehovah saith unto Manoah, `If thou detain me -- I do not eat of thy bread; and if thou prepare a burnt-offering -- to Jehovah thou dost offer it;' for Manoah hath not known that He a messenger of Jehovah.

І сказав Ангол Господній до Маноаха: Якщо ти задержиш мене, я не буду їсти твого хліба. А якщо приготуєш цілопалення для Господа принесеш його. Бо Маноах не знав, що це Ангол Господній.

17 A nd Manoah saith unto the messenger of Jehovah, `What thy name? when thy words come to pass, then we have honoured thee.'

І сказав Маноах до Господнього Ангола: Яке ім'я твоє? Коли сповниться твоє слово, то ми вшануємо тебе.

18 A nd the messenger of Jehovah saith to him, `Why this -- thou dost ask for My name? -- and it Wonderful.'

І сказав йому Ангол Господній: Чому ти питаєшся про моє ім'я? Воно дивне.

19 A nd Manoah taketh the kid of the goats, and the present, and offereth on the rock to Jehovah, and He is doing wonderfully, and Manoah and his wife are looking on,

І взяв Маноах козля та жертву хлібну, і на скелі приніс Господеві. І Він учинив чудо, а Маноах та його жінка бачили те.

20 a nd it cometh to pass, in the going up of the flame from off the altar toward the heavens, that the messenger of Jehovah goeth up in the flame of the altar, and Manoah and his wife are looking on, and they fall on their faces to the earth,

І сталося, коли полум'я підіймалося з-над жертівника до неба, то Ангол Господній вознісся в полум'ї жертівника. А Маноах та жінка його бачили це, та й попадали обличчям своїм на землю.

21 a nd the messenger of Jehovah hath not added again to appear unto Manoah, and unto his wife, then hath Manoah known that He a messenger of Jehovah.

І Ангол Господній більш уже не появлявся до Маноаха та до жінки його. Тоді Маноах пізнав, що це Ангол Господній.

22 A nd Manoah saith unto his wife, `We certainly die, for we have seen God.'

І сказав Маноах до своєї жінки: Ми справді помремо, бо ми бачили Бога.

23 A nd his wife saith to him, `If Jehovah were desirous to put us to death, He had not received from our hands burnt-offering and present, nor shewed us all these things, nor as time caused us to hear like this.'

І сказала йому жінка його: Коли б Господь хотів був повбивати нас, не взяв би з нашої руки цілопалення та хлібної жертви, і не дав би нам побачити всього цього, і не об'явив би нам цього часу речі, як це.

24 A nd the woman beareth a son, and calleth his name Samson, and the youth groweth, and Jehovah doth bless him,

І породила та жінка сина, і назвала ім'я йому: Самсон. І виростав той хлопець, і Господь благословляв його.

25 a nd the Spirit of Jehovah beginneth to move him in the camp of Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.

А Дух Господній почав діяти в ньому в Дановім таборі між Цор'а та між Ештаолом.
