1 A nd Jesus answering, again spake to them in similes, saying,

А Ісус, відповідаючи, знов почав говорити їм притчами, кажучи:

2 ` The reign of the heavens was likened to a man, a king, who made marriage-feasts for his son,

Царство Небесне подібне одному цареві, що весілля справляв був для сина свого.

3 a nd he sent forth his servants to call those having been called to the marriage-feasts, and they were not willing to come.

І послав він своїх рабів покликати тих, хто був на весілля запрошений, та ті не хотіли прийти.

4 ` Again he sent forth other servants, saying, Say to those who have been called: Lo, my dinner I prepared, my oxen and the fatlings have been killed, and all things ready, come ye to the marriage-feasts;

Знову послав він інших рабів, наказуючи: Скажіть запрошеним: Ось я приготував обід свій, закололи бики й відгодоване, і все готове. Ідіть на весілля!

5 a nd they, having disregarded, went away, the one to his own field, and the other to his merchandise;

Та вони злегковажили та порозходились, той на поле своє, а той на свій торг.

6 a nd the rest, having laid hold on his servants, did insult and slay.

А останні, похапавши рабів його, знущалися, та й повбивали їх.

7 ` And the king having heard, was wroth, and having sent forth his soldiers, he destroyed those murderers, and their city he set on fire;

І розгнівався цар, і послав своє військо, і вигубив тих убійників, а їхнє місто спалив.

8 t hen saith he to his servants, The marriage-feast indeed is ready, and those called were not worthy,

Тоді каже рабам своїм: Весілля готове, але недостойні були ті покликані.

9 b e going, then, on to the cross-ways, and as many as ye may find, call ye to the marriage-feasts.

Тож підіть на роздоріжжя, і кого тільки спіткаєте, кличте їх на весілля.

10 ` And those servants, having gone forth to the ways, did gather all, as many as they found, both bad and good, and the marriage-feast apartment was filled with those reclining.

І вийшовши раби ті на роздоріжжя, зібрали всіх, кого тільки спіткали, злих і добрих. І весільна кімната гістьми переповнилась.

11 ` And the king having come in to view those reclining, saw there a man not clothed with clothing of the marriage-feast,

Як прийшов же той цар на гостей подивитись, побачив там чоловіка, в одежу весільну не вбраного,

12 a nd he saith to him, Comrade, how didst thou come in hither, not having clothing of the marriage-feast? and he was speechless.

та й каже йому: Як ти, друже, ввійшов сюди, не мавши одежі весільної? Той же мовчав.

13 ` Then said the king to the ministrants, Having bound his feet and hands, take him up and cast forth to the outer darkness, there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth;

Тоді цар сказав своїм слугам: Зв'яжіть йому ноги та руки, та й киньте до зовнішньої темряви, буде плач там і скрегіт зубів...

14 f or many are called, and few chosen.'

Бо багато покликаних, та вибраних мало.

15 T hen the Pharisees having gone, took counsel how they might ensnare him in words,

Тоді фарисеї пішли й умовлялись, як зловити на слові Його.

16 a nd they send to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, `Teacher, we have known that thou art true, and the way of God in truth thou dost teach, and thou art not caring for any one, for thou dost not look to the face of men;

І посилають до Нього своїх учнів із іродіянами, і кажуть: Учителю, знаємо ми, що Ти справедливий, і наставляєш на Божу дорогу правдиво, і не зважаєш ні на кого, бо на людське обличчя не дивишся Ти.

17 t ell us, therefore, what dost thou think? is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not?'

Скажи ж нам, як здається Тобі: чи годиться давати податок для кесаря, чи ні?

18 A nd Jesus having known their wickedness, said, `Why me do ye tempt, hypocrites?

А Ісус, знавши їхнє лукавство, сказав: Чого ви, лицеміри, Мене випробовуєте?

19 s how me the tribute-coin?' and they brought to him a denary;

Покажіть Мені гріш податковий. І принесли динарія Йому.

20 a nd he saith to them, `Whose this image and the inscription?'

А Він каже до них: Чий це образ і напис?

21 t hey say to him, `Caesar's;' then saith he to them, `Render therefore the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God;'

Ті відказують: Кесарів. Тоді каже Він їм: Тож віддайте кесареве кесареві, а Богові Боже.

22 a nd having heard they wondered, and having left him they went away.

А почувши таке, вони диву далися. І, лишивши Його, відійшли.

23 I n that day there came near to him Sadducees, who are saying there is not a rising again, and they questioned him, saying,

Того дня приступили до Нього саддукеї, що твердять, ніби нема воскресення, і запитали Його,

24 ` Teacher, Moses said, If any one may die not having children, his brother shall marry his wife, and shall raise up seed to his brother.

та й сказали: Учителю, Мойсей наказав: Коли хто помре, не мавши дітей, то нехай його брат візьме вдову його, і відновить насіння для брата свого.

25 ` And there were with us seven brothers, and the first having married did die, and not having seed, he left his wife to his brother;

Було ж у нас сім братів. І перший, одружившись, умер, і, не мавши насіння, зоставив дружину свою братові своєму.

26 i n like manner also the second, and the third, unto the seventh,

Так само і другий, і третій, аж до сьомого.

27 a nd last of all died also the woman;

А по всіх вмерла й жінка.

28 t herefore in the rising again, of which of the seven shall she be wife -- for all had her?'

Отож, у воскресенні котрому з сімох вона дружиною буде? Бо всі мали її.

29 A nd Jesus answering said to them, `Ye go astray, not knowing the Writings, nor the power of God;

Ісус же промовив у відповідь їм: Помиляєтесь ви, не знавши писання, ні Божої сили.

30 f or in the rising again they do not marry, nor are they given in marriage, but are as messengers of God in heaven.

Бо в воскресенні ні женяться, ані заміж виходять, але як Анголи ті на небі.

31 ` And concerning the rising again of the dead, did ye not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying,

А про воскресення померлих хіба не читали прореченого вам від Бога, що каже:

32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not a God of dead men, but of living.'

Я Бог Авраамів, і Бог Ісаків, і Бог Яковів; Бог не є Богом мертвих, а живих.

33 A nd having heard, the multitudes were astonished at his teaching;

А народ, чувши це, дивувався науці Його.

34 a nd the Pharisees, having heard that he did silence the Sadducees, were gathered together unto him;

Фарисеї ж, почувши, що Він уста замкнув саддукеям, зібралися разом.

35 a nd one of them, a lawyer, did question, tempting him, and saying,

І спитався один із них, учитель Закону, Його випробовуючи й кажучи:

36 ` Teacher, which the great command in the Law?'

Учителю, котра заповідь найбільша в Законі?

37 A nd Jesus said to him, `Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thine understanding --

Він же промовив йому: Люби Господа Бога свого всім серцем своїм, і всією душею своєю, і всією своєю думкою.

38 t his is a first and great command;

Це найбільша й найперша заповідь.

39 a nd the second like to it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself;

А друга однакова з нею: Люби свого ближнього, як самого себе.

40 o n these -- the two commands -- all the law and the prophets do hang.'

На двох оцих заповідях увесь Закон і Пророки стоять.

41 A nd the Pharisees having been gathered together, Jesus did question them,

Коли ж фарисеї зібрались, Ісус їх запитав,

42 s aying, `What do ye think concerning the Christ? of whom is he son?' They say to him, `Of David.'

і сказав: Що ви думаєте про Христа? Чий Він син? Вони Йому кажуть: Давидів.

43 H e saith to them, `How then doth David in the Spirit call him lord, saying,

Він до них промовляє: Як же то силою Духа Давид Його Господом зве, коли каже:

44 T he Lord said to my lord, Sit at my right hand, till I may make thine enemies thy footstool?

Промовив Господь Господеві моєму: сядь праворуч Мене, доки не покладу Я Твоїх ворогів підніжком ногам Твоїм.

45 I f then David doth call him lord, how is he his son?'

Тож, коли Давид зве Його Господом, як же Він йому син?

46 A nd no one was able to answer him a word, nor durst any from that day question him any more.

І ніхто не спромігся відповісти Йому ані слова... І ніхто з того дня не наважувався більш питати Його.
