1 A nd all the company of the sons of Israel journey from the wilderness of Sin, on their journeyings, by the command of Jehovah, and encamp in Rephidim, and there is no water for the people to drink;

І рушила вся громада Ізраїлевих синів із пустині Сін на походи свої з наказу Господнього, і отаборилася в Рефідімі. І не було води пити народові.

2 a nd the people strive with Moses, and say, `Give us water, and we drink.' And Moses saith to them, `What? -- ye strive with me, what? -- ye try Jehovah?'

І сварився народ із Мойсеєм, і казали вони: Дайте нам води, і ми будемо пити! А Мойсей їм сказав: Чого ви сваритеся зо мною? Нащо випробовуєте Господа?

3 a nd the people thirst there for water, and the people murmur against Moses, and say, `Why this? -- thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to put us to death, also our sons and our cattle, with thirst.'

І народ був там спраглий води. І ремствував народ на Мойсея й говорив: Нащо це ти випровадив нас із Єгипту? Щоб повбивати спраглого мене та синів моїх, та отари мої?

4 A nd Moses crieth to Jehovah, saying, `What do I to this people? yet a little, and they have stoned me.'

І кликав Мойсей до Господа, кажучи: Що я вчиню цьому народові? Ще трохи, і вони вкаменують мене!

5 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Pass over before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel, and thy rod with which thou hast smitten the River take in thy hand, and thou hast gone:

І сказав Господь до Мойсея: Перейдися перед народом, і візьми з собою декого з старших Ізраїлевих, а палицю, що нею ти вдарив був Річку, візьми в свою руку, та й іди!

6 L o, I am standing before thee there on the rock in Horeb, and thou hast smitten on the rock, and waters have come out from it, and the people have drunk.' And Moses doth so before the eyes of the elders of Israel,

Ось Я стану перед лицем твоїм там, на скелі в Хориві, а ти вдариш у скелю, і вийде із неї вода, і буде пити народ! І зробив Мойсей так на очах старших Ізраїлевих.

7 a nd he calleth the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the `strife' of the sons of Israel, and because of their `trying' Jehovah, saying, `Is Jehovah in our midst or not?'

І назвав він ім'я того місця: Масса та Мерива через колотнечу Ізраїлевих синів і через випробування ними Господа, коли казали: Чи є Господь серед нас, чи нема?

8 A nd Amalek cometh, and fighteth with Israel in Rephidim,

І прибув Амалик, і воював з Ізраїлем у Рефідімі.

9 a nd Moses saith unto Joshua, `Choose for us men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to-morrow I am standing on the top of the hill, and the rod of God in my hand.'

І сказав Мойсей до Ісуса: Вибери нам людей, і вийди воюй з Амаликом. Узавтра я стану на верхів'ї гори, а Божа палиця буде в моїй руці.

10 A nd Joshua doth as Moses hath said to him, to fight with Amalek, and Moses, Aaron, and Hur, have gone up the top of the height;

І зробив Ісус, як сказав йому Мойсей, щоб воювати з Амаликом. А Мойсей, Аарон та Хур вийшли на верхів'я гори.

11 a nd it hath come to pass, when Moses lifteth up his hand, that Israel hath been mighty, and when he letteth his hands rest, that Amalek hath been mighty.

І сталося, коли Мойсей підіймав свої руки, то перемагав Ізраїль, а коли руки його опускались, то перемагав Амалик.

12 A nd the hands of Moses heavy, and they take a stone, and set under him, and he sitteth on it: and Aaron and Hur have taken hold on his hands, on this side one, and on that one, and his hands are stedfast till the going in of the sun;

А руки Мойсеєві стали тяжкі. І взяли вони каменя, і поклали під ним. І сів він на ньому, а Аарон та Хур підтримували руки йому, один із цього боку, а один із того. І були його руки сталі аж до заходу сонця.

13 a nd Joshua weakeneth Amalek and his people by the mouth of the sword.

І переміг Ісус Амалика й народ його вістрям меча.

14 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Write this, a memorial in a Book, and set in the ears of Joshua, that I do utterly wipe away the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens;'

І сказав Господь до Мойсея: Напиши це на пам'ятку в книзі, і поклади до вух Ісусових, що докраю зітру Я пам'ять Амаликову з-під неба.

15 a nd Moses buildeth an altar, and calleth its name Jehovah-Nissi,

І збудував Мойсей жертівника, і назвав ім'я йому: Єгова-Ніссі.

16 a nd saith, `Because a hand on the throne of Jah, war to Jehovah with Amalek from generation -- generation.'

І проказав він: Бо рука на Господньому прапорі: Господеві війна з Амаликом із роду в рід!
