1 A nd they sit still three years, there is no war between Aram and Israel,

І прожили вони три роки, і не було війни між Сирією та між Ізраїлем.

2 a nd it cometh to pass in the third year, that Jehoshaphat king of Judah cometh down unto the king of Israel,

І сталося третього року, і зійшов Йосафат, цар Юдин, до Ізраїлевого царя.

3 a nd the king of Israel saith unto his servants, `Have ye not known that ours Ramoth-Gilead? and we are keeping silent from taking it out of the hand of the king of Aram!'

І сказав Ізраїлів цар до своїх слуг: Чи ви знаєте, що ґілеадський Рамот наш? А ми мовчимо, замість того, щоб забрати його з руки сирійського царя.

4 A nd he saith unto Jehoshaphat, `Dost thou go with me to battle Ramoth-Gilead?' and Jehoshaphat saith unto the king of Israel, `As I am, so thou; as my people, so thy people; as my horses, so thy horses.'

І сказав він до Йосафата: Чи ти підеш зо мною на війну до ґілеадського Рамоту? А Йосафат відказав: Я як ти, народ мій як народ твій, мої коні як твої коні!

5 A nd Jehoshaphat saith unto the king of Israel, `Seek, I pray thee, to-day, the word of Jehovah;'

І сказав Йосафат до Ізраїлевого царя: Вивідай зараз слово Господнє!

6 a nd the king of Israel gathereth the prophets, about four hundred men, and saith unto them, `Do I go against Ramoth-Gilead to battle, or do I forbear?' and they say, `Go up, and the Lord doth give into the hand of the king.'

І зібрав Ізраїлів цар пророків, близько чотирьох сотень чоловіка, та й сказав до них: Чи йти мені на війну на ґілеадський Рамот, чи занехати? А ті відказали: Іди, а Господь дасть його в цареву руку.

7 A nd Jehoshaphat saith, `Is there not here a prophet of Jehovah besides, and we seek by him?'

І сказав Йосафат: Чи нема тут іще Господнього пророка, і вивідаємо від нього.

8 A nd the king of Israel saith unto Jehoshaphat, `Yet -- one man to seek Jehovah by him, and I have hated him, for he doth not prophesy concerning me good, but evil -- Micaiah son of Imlah;' and Jehoshaphat saith, `Let not the king say so.'

І сказав Ізраїлів цар до Йосафата: Є ще один муж, щоб від нього вивідати Господа. Та я ненавиджу його, бо він не пророкує на мене добре, а тільки зле. Це Міхей, син Їмлин. А Йосафат відказав: Нехай цар не говорить так!

9 A nd the king of Israel calleth unto a certain eunuch, and saith, `Hasten Micaiah son of Imlah.'

І покликав Ізраїлів цар одного євнуха, і сказав: Приведи скоріш Міхея, Їмлиного сина!

10 A nd the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah are sitting, each on his throne, clothed with garments, in a threshing-floor, at the opening of the gate of Samaria, and all the prophets are prophesying before them.

І цар Ізраїлів та цар Юдин сиділи кожен на троні своїм, повбирані в шати при вході до брами Самарії, а всі пророки пророкували перед ними.

11 A nd Zedekiah son of Chenaanah maketh for himself horns of iron, and saith, `Thus said Jehovah, By these thou dost push the Aramaeans till they are consumed;'

А Седекія, Кенаанин син, зробив собі залізні роги й сказав: Так сказав Господь: Оцим будеш побивати сиріян аж до вигублення їх!

12 a nd all the prophets are prophesying so, saying, `Go up to Ramoth-Gilead, and prosper, and Jehovah hath given into the hand of the king.'

І всі пророки пророкували так, говорячи: Виходь до ґілеадського Рамоту, і пощастить тобі, і Господь дасть його в цареву руку.

13 A nd the messenger who hath gone to call Micaiah hath spoken unto him, saying, `Lo, I pray thee, the words of the prophets, with one mouth, good towards the king; let it be, I pray thee, thy word as the word of one of them -- and thou hast spoken good.'

А той посланець, що пішов покликати Міхея, говорив до нього, кажучи: Ось слова тих пророків, одноусто звіщають цареві добро. Нехай же буде слово твоє, як слово кожного з них, і ти говоритимеш добре.

14 A nd Micaiah saith, `Jehovah liveth; surely that which Jehovah saith unto me -- it I speak.'

І сказав Міхей: Як живий Господь, те, що скаже мені Господь, я те говоритиму!

15 A nd he cometh in unto the king, and the king saith unto him, `Micaiah, do we go unto Ramoth-Gilead, to battle, or do we forbear?' and he saith unto him, `Go up, and prosper, and Jehovah hath given into the hand of the king.'

І прийшов він до царя, а цар сказав до нього: Міхею, чи підемо на війну до ґілеадського Рамоту, чи занехаємо? А той відказав йому: Вийди, і пощастить тобі, і Господь дасть у цареву руку.

16 A nd the king saith unto him, `How many times am I adjuring thee that thou speak nothing unto me but truth in the name of Jehovah?'

І сказав йому цар: Аж скільки разів я заприсягав тебе, що ти не говоритимеш мені нічого, тільки правду в Ім'я Господа?

17 A nd he saith, `I have seen all Israel scattered on the hills as sheep that have no shepherd, and Jehovah saith, These have no master; they turn back each to his house in peace.'

А той відказав: Я бачив усього Ізраїля, розпорошеного по горах, немов овець, що не мають пастуха. І сказав Господь: Немає в них пана, нехай вернуться з миром кожен до дому свого.

18 A nd the king of Israel saith unto Jehoshaphat, `Have I not said unto thee, He doth not prophesy of me good, but evil?'

І сказав Ізраїлів цар до Йосафата: Чи ж не казав я тобі, він не буде пророкувати мені доброго, а тільки лихе?

19 A nd he saith, `Therefore, hear a word of Jehovah; I have seen Jehovah sitting on His throne, and all the host of the heavens standing by Him, on His right and on His left;

А Міхей відказав: Тому послухай Господнього слова: Бачив я Господа, що сидів на престолі Своїм, а все небесне військо стояло при Ньому з правиці Його та з лівиці Його.

20 a nd Jehovah saith, Who doth entice Ahab, and he doth go up and fall in Ramoth-Gilead? and this one saith thus, and that one is saying thus.

І сказав Господь: Хто намовить Ахава, і він вийде й упаде в ґілеадському Рамоті? І говорив той так, а той говорив так.

21 ` And the spirit goeth out, and standeth before Jehovah, and saith, I -- I do entice him; and Jehovah saith unto him, By what?

І вийшов дух, і став перед Господнім лицем та й сказав: Я намовлю його! І сказав йому Господь: Чим?

22 a nd he saith, I go out, and have been a spirit of falsehood in the mouth of all his prophets; and He saith, Thou dost entice, and also thou art able; go out and do so.

А той відказав: Я вийду й стану духом неправди в устах усіх його пророків. А Господь сказав: Ти намовиш, а також переможеш; вийди та й зроби так!

23 A nd now, lo, Jehovah hath put a spirit of falsehood in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and Jehovah hath spoken concerning thee -- evil.'

А тепер оце Господь дав духа неправди в уста всіх оцих пророків, а Господь говорив на тебе лихе...

24 A nd Zedekiah son of Chenaanah draweth nigh, and smiteth Micaiah on the cheek, and saith, `Where this -- he hath passed over -- the Spirit of Jehovah -- from me to speak with thee?'

І підійшов Седекія, Кенаанин син, і вдарив Міхея по щоці та й сказав: Кудою це перейшов Дух Господній від мене, щоб говорити з тобою?

25 A nd Micaiah saith, `Lo, thou art seeing on that day, when thou goest in to the innermost chamber to be hidden.'

А Міхей сказав: Ось ти побачиш це, коли вбіжиш до найдальшої кімнати, щоб сховатися.

26 A nd the king of Israel saith, `Take Micaiah, and turn him back unto Amon head of the city, and unto Joash son of the king,

І сказав Ізраїлів цар: Візьми Міхея, і відведи до Амона, начальника міста, та до Йоаша, царевого сина,

27 a nd thou hast said, Thus said the king, Place ye this one in the house of restraint, and cause him to eat bread of oppression, and water of oppression, till my coming in peace.'

та й скажеш: Отак сказав цар: Посадіть оцього до в'язничного дому, і давайте йому їсти скупо хліба й скупо води, аж поки я не вернуся з миром.

28 A nd Micaiah saith, `If thou at all return in peace -- Jehovah hath not spoken by me;' and he saith, `Hear, O peoples, all of them.'

А Міхей відказав: Якщо справді вернешся ти з миром, то не говорив Господь через мене! І до того сказав: Слухайте це, всі народи!

29 A nd the king of Israel goeth up, and Jehoshaphat king of Judah, to Ramoth-Gilead.

І вийшов Ізраїлів цар та Йосафат, цар Юдин, до ґілеадського Рамоту.

30 A nd the king of Israel saith unto Jehoshaphat to disguise himself, and to go into battle, `And thou, put on thy garments.' And the king of Israel disguiseth himself, and goeth into battle.

І сказав Ізраїлів цар до Йосафата: Я переберуся, і піду на бій, а ти вбери свої царські шати! І перебрався Ізраїлів цар, і пішов на бій.

31 A nd the king of Aram commanded the heads of the charioteers whom he hath -- thirty and two -- saying, `Ye do not fight with small or with great, but with the king of Israel by himself.'

А сирійський цар наказав керівникам своїх колесниць, тридцятьом і двом, говорячи: Не будете воювати з малим та з великим, а тільки з самим Ізраїлевим царем.

32 A nd it cometh to pass, at the heads of the charioteers seeing Jehoshaphat, that they said, `He only the king of Israel;' and they turn aside to him to fight, and Jehoshaphat crieth out,

І сталося, як керівники колесниць побачили Йосафата, то вони сказали: Це дійсно Ізраїлів цар! І зайшли на нього, щоб воювати, а Йосафат закричав.

33 a nd it cometh to pass, at the heads of the charioteers seeing that he not the king of Israel, that they turn back from after him.

І сталося, як керівники колесниць побачили, що це не Ізраїлів цар, то повернули від нього.

34 A nd a man hath drawn with a bow, in his simplicity, and smiteth the king of Israel between the joinings and the coat of mail, and he saith to his charioteer, `Turn thy hand, and take me out from the camp, for I have become sick.'

А один чоловік знехотя натягнув лука, та й ударив Ізраїлевого царя між підв'язанням пояса та між панцерем. А той сказав своєму візникові: Поверни назад, і виведи мене з табору, бо я ранений...

35 A nd the battle increaseth on that day, and the king hath been caused to stand in the chariot, over-against Aram, and he dieth in the evening, and the blood of the wound runneth out unto the midst of the chariot,

І знявся бій того дня, а цар був поставлений на колесниці проти Сирії, і помер увечорі. І кров із рани текла в колесницю.

36 a nd he causeth the cry to pass over through the camp, at the going in of the sun, saying, `Each unto his city, and each unto his land.'

А як сонце заходило, нісся крик у таборі такий: Кожен до міста свого, і кожен до краю свого!

37 A nd the king dieth, and cometh into Samaria, and they bury the king in Samaria;

І помер цар, і був привезений до Самарії. І поховали царя в Самарії.

38 a nd rinseth the chariot by the pool of Samaria, and the dogs lick his blood -- when the armour they had washed -- according to the word of Jehovah that He spake.

І полоскали колесницю над ставом у Самарії, і пси лизали його кров, а блудниці мили своє тіло, за словом Господнім, що Він говорив.

39 A nd the rest of the matters of Ahab, and all that he did, and the house of ivory that he built, and all the cities that he built, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?

А решта Ахавових діл, і все, що він зробив був, і дім зо слонової кости, що він збудував, і всі міста, які він побудував, отож вони написані в Книзі Хроніки Ізраїлевих царів.

40 A nd Ahab lieth with his fathers, and Ahaziah his son reigneth in his stead.

І спочив Ахав із батьками своїми, а замість нього зацарював син його Ахазія.

41 A nd Jehoshaphat son of Asa hath reigned over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel,

А Йосафат, Асин син, зацарював над Юдою в четвертому році Ахава, царя Ізраїлевого.

42 J ehoshaphat a son of thirty and five years in his reigning, and twenty and five years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother Azubah daughter of Shilhi.

Йосафат був віку тридцяти й п'яти літ, коли він зацарював, і двадцять і п'ять літ царював в Єрусалимі. А ім'я його матері Азува, дочка Шілхи.

43 A nd he walketh in all the way of Asa his father, he hath not turned aside from it, to do that which right in the eyes of Jehovah; only the high places have not turned aside, yet are the people sacrificing and making perfume in high places.

І ходив він усією дорогою батька свого Аси, і не збочував із неї, щоб чинити добре в Господніх очах. Тільки пагірки не були понищені, народ іще приносив жертви й кадив на пагірках.

44 A nd Jehoshaphat maketh peace with the king of Israel;

І Йосафат замирив з Ізраїлевим царем.

45 a nd the rest of the matters of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he got, and with which he fought, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Judah?

А решта Йосафатових діл та лицарськість його, що він чинив був та як воював, отож вони написані в Книзі Хроніки Юдиних царів.

46 A nd the remnant of the whoremongers who were left in the days of Asa his father he took away out of the land;

А решту блудодіїв, що позоставалися за днів його батька Аси, він вигубив із Краю.

47 a nd there is no king in Edom; he set up a king.

А царя не було в Едомі, був намісник царів.

48 J ehoshaphat made ships at Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold, and they went not, for the ships were broken in Ezion-Geber.

А Йосафат наробив був таршіських кораблів, щоб піти до Офіру по золото, та не пішов, бо порозбивалися кораблі при Ецйон-Ґевері.

49 T hen said Ahaziah son of Ahab unto Jehoshaphat, `Let my servants go with thy servants in the ships;' and Jehoshaphat was not willing.

Тоді сказав Ахазія, син Ахавів, до Йосафата: Нехай підуть на кораблях мої раби з рабами твоїми. Та Йосафат не захотів.

50 A nd Jehoshaphat lieth with his fathers, and is buried with his fathers in the city of David his father, and Jehoram his son reigneth in his stead.

І спочив Йосафат із своїми батьками. І був він похований в Місті Давида, свого батька, а замість нього зацарював син його Єгорам.

51 A haziah son of Ahab hath reigned over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigneth over Israel two years,

Ахазія, Ахавів син, зацарював над Ізраїлем у Самарії, в сімнадцятому році Йосафата, Юдиного царя, і царював над Ізраїлем два роки.

52 a nd doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and walketh in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam son of Nebat who caused Israel to sin,

І робив він лихе в Господніх очах, і ходив дорогою батька свого й дорогою своєї матері, та дорогою Єровоама, Неватового сина, що вводив у гріх Ізраїля.

53 a nd serveth the Baal, and boweth himself to it, and provoketh Jehovah, God of Israel, according to all that his father had done.

І служив він Ваалові, і вклонявся йому, та й гнівив Господа, Бога Ізраїлевого, усе так, як робив його батько.
