1 A nd in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, dreamed hath Nebuchadnezzar dreams, and his spirit doth move itself, and his sleep hath been against him;

А за другого року Навуходоносорового царювання приснилися Навуходоносорові сни. І занепокоївся дух його, і сон його утік від нього.

2 a nd the king saith to call for scribes, and for enchanters, and for sorcerers, and for Chaldeans, to declare to the king his dreams. And they come in and stand before the king;

І сказав цар покликати чарівників та заклиначів, і чаклунів та халдеїв, щоб розповіли цареві його сни. І вони поприходили, і поставали перед царським обличчям.

3 a nd the king saith to them, `A dream I have dreamed, and moved is my spirit to know the dream.'

І сказав до них цар: Снився мені сон, і занепокоївся дух мій, щоб пізнати той сон.

4 A nd the Chaldeans speak to the king Aramaean, `O king, to the ages live, tell the dream to thy servants, and the interpretation we do shew.'

А халдеї говорили цареві по-арамейському: Царю, живи навіки! Розкажи перше сон своїм рабам, а ми об'явимо розв'язку.

5 T he king hath answered and said to the Chaldeans, `The thing from me is gone; if ye do not cause me to know the dream and its interpretation, pieces ye are made, and your houses are made dunghills;

Цар відповів та й сказав до халдеїв: Моє слово невідкличне: якщо ви не розповісте мені сна та його розв'язку, будете почетвертовані, а ваші доми обернуться в руїни.

6 a nd if the dream and its interpretation ye do shew, gifts, and fee, and great glory ye receive from before me, therefore the dream and its interpretation shew ye me.'

А якщо ви розповісте сон та його розв'язку, одержите від мене дари й нагороду та велику честь; тому об'явіть мені сон та його розв'язку.

7 T hey have answered a second time, and are saying, `Let the king tell the dream to his servants, and the interpretation we do shew.

Вони відповіли вдруге та й сказали: Цар перше розкаже сон своїм рабам, а ми об'явимо розв'язку.

8 T he king hath answered and said, `Of a truth I know that time ye are gaining, because that ye have seen that the thing is gone from me,

Цар відповів та й сказав: Я знаю напевно, що ви хочете виграти час, бо бачите, що слово моє невідкличне.

9 t hat, if the dream ye do not cause me to know -- one is your sentence, seeing a word lying and corrupt ye have prepared to speak before me, till that the time is changed, therefore the dream tell ye to me, then do I know that its interpretation ye do shew me.'

Якщо ви не розкажете мені сна, то один у вас задум, бо ви змовилися говорити передо мною лож та неправду, аж поки зміниться час. Тому розкажіть мені сон, і я пізнаю, що ви об'явите мені, і його розв'язку.

10 T he Chaldeans have answered before the king, and are saying, `There is not a man on the earth who is able to shew the king's matter; therefore, no king, chief, and ruler, hath asked such a thing as this of any scribe, and enchanter, and Chaldean;

Халдеї відповіли перед царем та й сказали: Нема на суходолі людини, що могла б об'явити цареву справу, бо жоден великий та панівний цар не питався такої речі від жодного чарівника й заклинача та халдея.

11 a nd the thing that the king is asking precious, and others are there not that do shew it before the king, save the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.'

А справа, про яку питається цар, тяжка, і немає таких, що об'явили б її перед царем, окрім богів, що не мають своїх мешкань разом із тілом.

12 T herefore the king hath been angry and very wroth, and hath said to destroy all the wise men of Babylon;

За це цар розгнівався, та сильно розпінився, і наказав вигубити всіх вавилонських мудреців.

13 A nd the sentence hath gone forth, and the wise men are being slain, and they have sought Daniel and his companions to be slain.

І вийшов наказ, і вбивали мудреців, і шукано Даниїла та його товаришів, щоб повбивати.

14 T hen Daniel hath replied counsel and discretion to Arioch chief of the executioners of the king, who hath gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon.

Того часу Даниїл розповів розважно та розумно Арйохові, начальникові царської сторожі, що вийшов був побивати вавилонських мудреців.

15 H e hath answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, `Wherefore the sentence so urgent from before the king?' Then Arioch hath made the thing known to Daniel,

Він заговорив та й сказав Арйохові, царському владиці: Чому такий жорстокий наказ від царя? Тоді Арйох розповів Даниїлові справу.

16 a nd Daniel hath gone up, and sought of the king that he would give him time to shew the interpretation to the king.

І Даниїл увійшов, і просив просити від царя, щоб дав йому часу, і він об'явить цареві розв'язку сна.

17 T hen Daniel to his house hath gone, and to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions, he hath made the thing known,

Тоді Даниїл пішов до свого дому, і завідомив про справу товаришів своїх, Ананію, Мисаїла та Азарію,

18 a nd to seek mercies from before the God of the heavens concerning this secret, that they destroy not Daniel and his companions with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

щоб просили милости від Небесного Бога на цю таємницю, щоб не вигубили Даниїла та товаришів його разом з рештою вавилонських мудреців.

19 T hen to Daniel, in a vision of the night, the secret hath been revealed. Then hath Daniel blessed the God of the heavens.

Тоді Даниїлові відкрита була таємниця в нічному видінні, і Даниїл прославив Небесного Бога.

20 D aniel hath answered and said, `Let the name of God be blessed from age even unto age, for wisdom and might -- for they are His.

Даниїл заговорив та й сказав: Нехай буде благословенне Боже Ім'я від віку й аж до віку, бо Його мудрість та сила.

21 A nd He is changing times and seasons, He is causing kings to pass away, and He is raising up kings; He is giving wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those possessing understanding.

І Він зміняє часи та пори року, скидає царів і настановляє царів, дає мудрість мудрим, і пізнання розумним.

22 H e is revealing deep and hidden things; He hath known what in darkness, and light with Him hath dwelt.

Він відкриває глибоке та сховане, знає те, що в темряві, а світло спочиває з Ним.

23 T hee, O God of my fathers, I am thanking and praising, for wisdom and might Thou hast given to me; and now, Thou hast caused me to know that which we have sought from Thee, for the king's matter Thou hast caused us to know.'

Тобі, Боже батьків моїх, я дякую та славлю Тебе, що Ти дав мені мудрість та силу, а тепер відкрив мені, що я від Тебе просив, бо Ти відкрив нам справу цареву.

24 T herefore Daniel hath gone up unto Arioch, whom the king hath appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon; he hath gone, and thus hath said to him, `The wise men of Babylon thou dost not destroy, bring me up before the king, and the interpretation to the king I do shew.'

Потому Даниїл пішов до Арйоха, якого цар призначив вигубити вавилонських мудреців. Пішов він та й так йому сказав: Не губи вавилонських мудреців! Заведи мене перед царя, і я об'явлю цареві розв'язку сна.

25 T hen Arioch in haste hath brought up Daniel before the king, and thus hath said to him -- `I have found a man of the sons of the Removed of Judah, who the interpretation to the king doth make known.'

Тоді Арйох негайно привів Даниїла перед царя, та й сказав йому так: Знайшов я мужа з синів Юдиного вигнання, що об'явить цареві розв'язку сна.

26 T he king hath answered and said to Daniel, whose name Belteshazzar, `Art thou able to cause me to know the dream that I have seen, and its interpretation?'

Цар заговорив та й сказав Даниїлові, що йому було ймення Валтасар: Чи ти можеш об'явити мені сон, якого я бачив, та його розв'язку?

27 D aniel hath answered before the king and said, `The secret that the king is asking, the wise men, the enchanters, the scribes, the soothsayers, are not able to shew to the king;

Даниїл відповів перед царем та й сказав: Таємниці, про яку питається цар, не можуть об'явити цареві ані мудреці, ані заклиначі, ані чарівники, ані віщуни.

28 b ut there is a God in the heavens, a revealer of secrets, and He hath made known to king Nebuchadnezzar that which to be in the latter end of the days. `Thy dream and the visions of thy head on thy bed are these:

Але є на небесах Бог, що відкриває таємниці, і Він завідомив царя Навуходоносора про те, що буде в кінці днів. Твій сон та видіння твоєї голови на ложі твоїм оце вони:

29 T hou, O king, thy thoughts on thy bed have come up that which to be after this, and the Revealer of secrets hath caused thee to know that which to be.

Тобі царю, приходили на ложе твоє думки твої про те, що буде потім, а Той, Хто відкриває таємницю, показав тобі те, що буде.

30 A s to me -- not for wisdom that is in me above any living hath this secret been revealed to me; but for the intent that the interpretation to the king they make known, and the thoughts of thy heart thou dost know.

А мені ця таємниця відкрита не через мудрість, що була б у мені більша від мудрости всіх живих, а тільки на те, щоб об'явити цареві розв'язку, і ти пізнаєш думки свого серця.

31 ` Thou, O king, wast looking, and lo, a certain great image. This image mighty, and its brightness excellent; it is standing over-against thee, and its appearance terrible.

Ти, царю, бачив, аж ось один великий бовван, бовван цей величезний, а блиск його дуже сильний; він стояв перед тобою, а вигляд його був страшний.

32 T his image! its head of good gold, its breasts and its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of brass;

Цей бовван такий: голова його з чистого золота, груди його та рамена його зо срібла, нутро його та стегно його з міді,

33 i ts legs of iron, its feet, part of them of iron, and part of them of clay.

голінки його з заліза, ноги його частинно з заліза, а частинно з глини.

34 T hou wast looking till that a stone hath been cut out without hands, and it hath smitten the image on its feet, that of iron and of clay, and it hath broken them small;

Ти бачив, аж ось одірвався камінь сам, не через руки, і вдарив боввана по ногах його, що з заліза та з глини, і розторощив їх.

35 t hen broken small together have been the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, and they have been as chaff from the summer threshing-floor, and carried them away hath the wind, and no place hath been found for them: and the stone that smote the image hath become a great mountain, and hath filled all the land.

Того часу розторощилося, як одне, залізо, глина, мідь, срібло та золото, і вони стали, немов та полова з току жнив, а вітер їх розвіяв, і не знайшлося по них жодного сліду; а камінь, що вдарив того боввана, став великою горою, і наповнив усю землю.

36 T his the dream, and its interpretation we do tell before the king.

Оце той сон, а його розв'язку зараз скажемо перед царем.

37 ` Thou, O king, art a king of kings, for the God of the heavens a kingdom, strength, and might, and glory, hath given to thee;

Ти, царю, цар над царями, якому Небесний Бог дав царство, владу й міць та славу.

38 a nd whithersoever sons of men are dwelling, the beast of the field, and the fowl of the heavens, He hath given into thy hand, and hath caused thee to rule over them all; thou this head of gold.

І скрізь, де мешкають людські сини, польова звірина та птаство небесне, Він дав їх у твою руку, та вчинив тебе пануючим над усіма ними. Ти голова, що з золота.

39 A nd after thee doth rise up another kingdom lower than those, and another third kingdom of brass, that doth rule overall the earth.

А по тобі постане інше царство, нижче від тебе, і царство третє, інше, що з міді, яке буде панувати над усією землею.

40 A nd the fourth kingdom is strong as iron, because that iron is breaking small, and making feeble, all, even as iron that is breaking all these, it beateth small and breaketh.

А царство четверте буде сильне, як залізо, бо залізо товче й розбиває все, так і воно стовче й розіб'є, як залізо, що все розбиває.

41 A s to that which thou hast seen: the feet and toes, part of them potter's clay, and part of them iron, the kingdom is divided: and some of the standing of the iron to be in it, because that thou hast seen the iron mixed with miry clay.

А що ти бачив ноги та пальці частинно з ганчарської глини, частинно з заліза, то це буде поділене царство, і в ньому буде трохи залізної міці, бо ти бачив залізо, змішане з глейкою глиною.

42 A s to the toes of the feet, part of them iron, and part of them clay: some part of the kingdom is strong, and some part of it is brittle.

А пальці ніг частинно з заліза, а частинно з глини, то й частина царства буде сильна, а частина буде ламлива.

43 B ecause thou hast seen iron mixed with miry clay, they are mixing themselves with the seed of men: and they are not adhering one with another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

А що бачив ти залізо, змішане з глейкою глиною, то вони змішані будуть людським насінням, а не будуть прилягати одне до одного, як залізо не змішується з глиною.

44 ` And in the days of these kings raise up doth the God of the heavens a kingdom that is not destroyed -- to the age, and its kingdom to another people is not left: it beateth small and endeth all these kingdoms, and it standeth to the age.

А за днів тих царів Небесний Бог поставить царство, що навіки не зруйнується, і те царство не буде віддане іншому народові. Воно потовче й покінчить усі ті царства, а само буде стояти навіки.

45 B ecause that thou hast seen that out of the mountain cut hath been a stone without hands, and it hath beaten small the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king that which to be after this; and the dream true, and its interpretation stedfast.

Бо ти бачив, що з гори відірвався камінь сам, не руками, і потовк залізо, мідь, глину, срібло та золото. Великий Бог об'явив цареві те, що станеться потім. А сон цей певний, і певна його розв'язка!

46 T hen hath king Nebuchadnezzar fallen on his face, and to Daniel he hath done obeisance, and present, and sweet things, he hath said to pour out to him.

Тоді цар Навуходоносор упав на своє обличчя й поклонився Даниїлові, і наказав приносити йому хлібну жертву та любі пахощі!

47 T he king hath answered Daniel and said, `Of a truth that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, since thou hast been able to reveal this secret.'

Цар відповів Даниїлові та й сказав: Направду, що ваш Бог це Бог над богами та Пан над царями, і Він відкриває таємниці, коли міг ти відкрити оцю таємницю!

48 T hen the king hath made Daniel great, and many great gifts he hath given to him, and hath caused him to rule over all the province of Babylon, and chief of the perfects over all the wise men of Babylon.

Тоді цар звеличив Даниїла, і дав йому численні дарунки, і вчинив його паном над усім вавилонським краєм, і великим провідником над усіма вавилонськими мудрецями.

49 A nd Daniel hath sought from the king, and he hath appointed over the work of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, and Daniel in the gate of the king.

А Даниїл просив від царя, і він призначив над справами вавилонського краю Шадраха, Мешаха та Авед-Неґо, а Даниїл був при царському дворі.
