1 A nd it came to pass, on the second-first sabbath, as he is going through the corn fields, that his disciples were plucking the ears, and were eating, rubbing with the hands,

І сталось, як Він переходив ланами, у суботу, Його учні зривали колосся та їли, розтерши руками.

2 a nd certain of the Pharisees said to them, `Why do ye that which is not lawful to do on the sabbaths?'

А деякі з фарисеїв сказали: Нащо робите те, чого не годиться робити в суботу?

3 A nd Jesus answering said unto them, `Did ye not read even this that David did, when he hungered, himself and those who are with him,

І промовив Ісус їм у відповідь: Хіба ви не читали того, що зробив був Давид, коли сам зголоднів, також ті, хто був із ним?

4 h ow he went into the house of God, and the loaves of the presentation did take, and did eat, and gave also to those with him, which it is not lawful to eat, except only to the priests?'

Як він увійшов був до Божого дому, і, взявши хліби показні, яких їсти не можна було, тільки самим священикам, споживав, і дав тим, хто був із ним?

5 a nd he said to them, -- `The Son of Man is lord also of the sabbath.'

І сказав Він до них: Син Людський Господь і суботі!

6 A nd it came to pass also, on another sabbath, that he goeth into the synagogue, and teacheth, and there was there a man, and his right hand was withered,

І сталось, як в іншу суботу зайшов Він до синагоги й навчав, знаходився там чоловік, що правиця йому була всохла.

7 a nd the scribes and the Pharisees were watching him, if on the sabbath he will heal, that they might find an accusation against him.

А книжники та фарисеї вважали, чи в суботу того не вздоровить, щоб знайти проти Нього оскарження.

8 A nd he himself had known their reasonings, and said to the man having the withered hand, `Rise, and stand in the midst;' and he having risen, stood.

А Він знав думки їхні, і сказав чоловікові, що мав суху руку: Підведися, і стань посередині! Той підвівся і став.

9 T hen said Jesus unto them, `I will question you something: Is it lawful on the sabbaths to do good, or to do evil? life to save or to kill?'

Ісус же промовив до них: Запитаю Я вас: Що годиться в суботу робити добре, чи робити лихе, душу спасти, чи згубити?

10 A nd having looked round on them all, he said to the man, `Stretch forth thy hand;' and he did so, and his hand was restored whole as the other;

І, позирнувши на всіх них, сказав чоловікові: Простягни свою руку! Той зробив, і рука його стала здорова!

11 a nd they were filled with madness, and were speaking with one another what they might do to Jesus.

А вони переповнились лютістю, і один з одним змовлялись, що робити з Ісусом?...

12 A nd it came to pass in those days, he went forth to the mountain to pray, and was passing the night in the prayer of God,

І сталось, що часу того Він вийшов на гору молитися, і перебув цілу ніч на молитві до Бога.

13 a nd when it became day, he called near his disciples, and having chosen from them twelve, whom also he named apostles,

А коли настав день, покликав Він учнів Своїх, і обрав із них Дванадцятьох, яких і апостолами Він назвав:

14 ( Simon, whom also he named Peter, and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,

Симона, якого й Петром Він назвав, і Андрія, брата його, Якова й Івана, Пилипа й Варфоломія,

15 M atthew and Thomas, James of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes,

Матвія й Хому, Якова Алфієвого й Симона, званого Зилотом,

16 J udas of James, and Judas Iscariot, who also became betrayer;)

Юду Якового, й Юду Іскаріотського, що й зрадником став.

17 a nd having come down with them, he stood upon a level spot, and a crowd of his disciples, and a great multitude of the people from all Judea, and Jerusalem, and the maritime Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him, and to be healed of their sicknesses,

Як зійшов Він із ними, то спинився на рівному місці, також натовп густий Його учнів, і безліч людей з усієї Юдеї та з Єрусалиму, і з приморського Тиру й Сидону,

18 a nd those harassed by unclean spirits, and they were healed,

що посходилися, щоб послухати Його та вздоровитися із недугів своїх, також ті, хто від духів нечистих страждав, і вони вздоровлялися.

19 a nd all the multitude were seeking to touch him, because power from him was going forth, and he was healing all.

Увесь же народ намагався бодай доторкнутись до Нього, бо від Нього виходила сила, і всіх вздоровляла.

20 A nd he, having lifted up his eyes to his disciples, said: `Happy the poor -- because yours is the reign of God.

А Він, звівши очі на учнів Своїх, говорив: Блаженні убогі, Царство Боже бо ваше.

21 ` Happy those hungering now -- because ye shall be filled. `Happy those weeping now -- because ye shall laugh.

Блаженні голодні тепер, бо ви нагодовані будете. Блаженні засмучені зараз, бо втішитесь ви.

22 ` Happy are ye when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you, and shall reproach, and shall cast forth your name as evil, for the Son of Man's sake --

Блаженні ви будете, коли люди зненавидять вас, і коли проженуть вас, і ганьбитимуть, і знеславлять, як зле, ім'я ваше за Людського Сина.

23 r ejoice in that day, and leap, for lo, your reward great in the heaven, for according to these things were their fathers doing to the prophets.

Радійте того дня й веселіться, нагорода бо ваша велика на небесах. Бо так само чинили пророкам батьки їхні.

24 ` But wo to you -- the rich, because ye have got your comfort.

Горе ж вам, багатіям, бо втіху свою ви вже маєте.

25 ` Wo to you who have been filled -- because ye shall hunger. `Wo to you who are laughing now -- because ye shall mourn and weep.

Горе вам, тепер ситим, бо зазнаєте голоду ви. Горе вам, що тепер потішаєтеся, бо будете ви сумувати та плакати.

26 ` Wo to you when all men shall speak well of you -- for according to these things were their fathers doing to false prophets.

Горе вам, як усі люди про вас говоритимуть добре, бо так само чинили фальшивим пророкам батьки їхні!

27 ` But I say to you who are hearing, Love your enemies, do good to those hating you,

А вам, хто слухає, Я кажу: Любіть своїх ворогів, добро робіть тим, хто ненавидить вас.

28 b less those cursing you, and pray for those accusing you falsely;

Благословляйте тих, хто вас проклинає, і моліться за тих, хто кривду вам чинить.

29 a nd to him smiting thee upon the cheek, give also the other, and from him taking away from thee the mantle, also the coat thou mayest not keep back.

Хто вдарить тебе по щоці, підстав йому й другу, а хто хоче плаща твого взяти, не забороняй і сорочки.

30 ` And to every one who is asking of thee, be giving; and from him who is taking away thy goods, be not asking again;

І кожному, хто в тебе просить подай, а від того, хто твоє забирає, назад не жадай.

31 a nd as ye wish that men may do to you, do ye also to them in like manner;

І як бажаєте, щоб вам люди чинили, так само чиніть їм і ви.

32 a nd -- if ye love those loving you, what grace have ye? for also the sinful love those loving them;

А коли любите тих, хто любить вас, яка вам за те ласка? Люблять бо й грішники тих, хто їх любить.

33 a nd if ye do good to those doing good to you, what grace have ye? for also the sinful do the same;

І коли добре чините тим, хто добро чинить вам, яка вам за те ласка? Бо те саме і грішники роблять.

34 a nd if ye lend of whom ye hope to receive back, what grace have ye? for also the sinful lend to sinners -- that they may receive again as much.

А коли позичаєте тим, що й від них сподіваєтесь взяти, яка вам за те ласка? Позичають бо й грішники грішникам, щоб одержати стільки ж.

35 ` But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again, and your reward will be great, and ye shall be sons of the Highest, because He is kind unto the ungracious and evil;

Тож любіть своїх ворогів, робіть добро, позичайте, не ждучи нічого назад, і ваша за це нагорода великою буде, і синами Всевишнього станете ви, добрий бо Він до невдячних і злих!

36 b e ye therefore merciful, as also your Father is merciful.

Будьте ж милосердні, як і Отець ваш милосердний!

37 ` And judge not, and ye may not be judged; condemn not, and ye may not be condemned; release, and ye shall be released.

Також не судіть, щоб не суджено й вас; і не осуджуйте, щоб і вас не осуджено; прощайте, то простять і вам.

38 ` Give, and it shall be given to you; good measure, pressed, and shaken, and running over, they shall give into your bosom; for with that measure with which ye measure, it shall be measured to you again.'

Давайте і дадуть вам; мірою доброю, натоптаною, струснутою й переповненою вам у подолок дадуть. Бо якою ви мірою міряєте, такою відміряють вам.

39 A nd he spake a simile to them, `Is blind able to lead blind? shall they not both fall into a pit?

Розповів також приказку їм: Чи ж може водити сліпого сліпий? Хіба не обидва в яму впадуть?

40 A disciple is not above his teacher, but every one perfected shall be as his teacher.

Учень не більший за вчителя; але, удосконалившись, кожен буде, як учитель його.

41 ` And why dost thou behold the mote that is in thy brother's eye, and the beam that in thine own eye dost not consider?

Чого ж в оці брата свого ти заскалку бачиш, колоди ж у власному оці не чуєш?

42 o r how art thou able to say to thy brother, Brother, suffer, I may take out the mote that in thine eye -- thyself the beam in thine own eye not beholding? Hypocrite, take first the beam out of thine own eye, and then thou shalt see clearly to take out the mote that in thy brother's eye.

Як ти можеш сказати до брата свого: Давай, брате, я заскалку вийму із ока твого, сам колоди, що в оці твоїм, не вбачаючи? Лицеміре, вийми перше колоду із власного ока, а потім побачиш, як вийняти заскалку з ока брата твого!

43 ` For there is not a good tree making bad fruit, nor a bad tree making good fruit;

Нема доброго дерева, що родило б злий плід, ані дерева злого, що родило б плід добрий.

44 f or each tree from its own fruit is known, for not from thorns do they gather figs, nor from a bramble do they crop a grape.

Кожне ж дерево з плоду свого пізнається. Не збирають бо фіґ із тернини, винограду ж на глоду не рвуть.

45 ` The good man out of the good treasure of his heart doth bring forth that which good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart doth bring forth that which evil; for out of the abounding of the heart doth his mouth speak.

Добра людина із доброї скарбниці серця добре виносить, а лиха із лихої виносить лихе. Бо чим серце наповнене, те говорять уста його!

46 ` And why do ye call me, Lord, Lord, and do not what I say?

Що звете ви Мене: Господи, Господи, та не робите того, що Я говорю?

47 E very one who is coming unto me, and is hearing my words, and is doing them, I will shew you to whom he is like;

Скажу вам, до кого подібний усякий, хто до Мене приходить та слів Моїх слухає, і виконує їх:

48 h e is like to a man building a house, who did dig, and deepen, and laid a foundation upon the rock, and a flood having come, the stream broke forth on that house, and was not able to shake it, for it had been founded upon the rock.

Той подібний тому чоловікові, що, будуючи дім, він глибоко викопав, і основу на камінь поклав. Коли ж злива настала, вода кинулася на той дім, та однак не змогла захитати його, бо збудований добре він був!

49 ` And he who heard and did not, is like to a man having builded a house upon the earth, without a foundation, against which the stream brake forth, and immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house became great.'

А хто слухає та не виконує, той подібний тому чоловікові, що свій дім збудував на землі без основи. І наперла на нього ріка, і зараз упав він, і велика була того дому руїна!
