1 A nd Jehovah saith unto Joshua, `Fear not, nor be affrighted, take with thee all the people of war, and rise, go up to Ai; see, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land,

І сказав Господь до Ісуса: Не бійся й не лякайся, візьми з собою ввесь військовий люд, та й устань, піди на Ай. Подивися: ось дав Я в руку твою айського царя, і народ його, і місто його, і край його.

2 a nd thou hast done to Ai and to her king as thou hast done to Jericho and to her king; only, its spoil and its cattle ye spoil for yourselves; set for thee an ambush for the city at its rear.'

І зробиш Аєві, і цареві його, як ти зробив Єрихонові та цареві його, тільки здобич його та худобу його заберете собі. Постав собі засідку на місто позад нього.

3 A nd Joshua riseth, and all the people of war, to go up to Ai, and Joshua chooseth thirty thousand men, mighty ones of valour, and sendeth them away by night,

І встав Ісус та ввесь військовий люд, щоб іти на Ай. І вибрав Ісус тридцять тисяч чоловіка сильних вояків, та й послав їх уночі.

4 a nd commandeth them, saying, `See, ye are liers in wait against the city, at the rear of the city, ye go not very far off from the city, and all of you have been prepared,

І він наказав їм, говорячи: Глядіть, чатуйте на Ай з-позад міста, не віддаляйтеся дуже від міста, і будьте всі готові.

5 a nd I and all the people who with me draw near unto the city, and it hath come to pass when they come out to meet us as at the first, and we have fled before them,

А я та ввесь народ, що зо мною, прийдемо до міста. І станеться, коли вийдуть навперейми нам, як перше, то ми втечемо перед ними.

6 a nd they have come out after us till we have drawn them out of the city, for they say, They are fleeing before us as at the first, and we have fled before them,

І вийдуть вони за нами, а ми відтягнемо їх від міста, бо скажуть: Вони втікають перед нами, як перше. І ми втечемо перед ними.

7 a nd ye rise from the ambush, and have occupied the city, and Jehovah your God hath given it into your hand;

А ви встанете з засідки, і здобудете те місто, і Господь, Бог ваш, дасть його вам у вашу руку.

8 a nd it hath been, when ye capture the city, ye burn the city with fire, according to the word of Jehovah ye do, see, I have commanded you.'

І станеться, як ви візьмете місто, то підпалите місто огнем, зробите за Господнім словом. Глядіть, я вам наказав.

9 A nd Joshua sendeth them away, and they go unto the ambush, and abide between Bethel and Ai, on the west of Ai; and Joshua lodgeth on that night in the midst of the people.

І послав їх Ісус, і пішли вони на засідку, та й засіли між Бет-Елом та між Аєм, із заходу від Аю. А Ісус ночував тієї ночі серед народу.

10 A nd Joshua riseth early in the morning, and inspecteth the people, and goeth up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai;

І встав Ісус рано вранці, і переглянув народ, і пішов він та Ізраїлеві старші перед народом до Аю.

11 a nd all the people of war who with him have gone up, and draw nigh and come in over-against the city, and encamp on the north of Ai; and the valley between him and Ai.

А всі вояки, що були з ним, пішли під гору, і підійшли, і прийшли навпроти того міста, і таборували з півночі Аю, а між ним та між Аєм була долина.

12 A nd he taketh about five thousand men, and setteth them an ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west of the city;

І взяв він коло п'яти тисяч чоловіка, і поставив їх як засідку між Бет-Елом та між Аєм з заходу міста.

13 a nd they set the people, all the camp which on the north of the city, and its rear on the west of the city, and Joshua goeth on that night into the midst of the valley.

І розклав народ, увесь табір, що з півночі міста, а задню частину його з заходу міста. І прийшов Ісус тієї ночі на середину долини.

14 A nd it cometh to pass, when the king of Ai seeth, that hasten, and rise early, and go out do the men of the city to meet Israel for battle, he and all his people, at the appointed season, at the front of the plain, and he hath not known that an ambush against him, on the rear of the city.

І сталося, як побачив це айський цар, то люди того міста поспішили, і встали рано, і вийшли навперейми Ізраїля на бій, він та ввесь його народ, на означений час перед степ. А він не знав, що є засідка на нього з-позад міста.

15 A nd Joshua and all Israel stricken before them, and flee the way of the wilderness,

А Ісус та ввесь Ізраїль удавали, ніби побиті перед ними, і втікали дорогою на пустиню.

16 a nd all the people who in the city are called to pursue after them, and they pursue after Joshua, and are drawn away out of the city,

А ті скликали ввесь народ, що в місті, щоб гнатися за ними. І гналися вони за Ісусом, і віддалилися від міста.

17 a nd there hath not been left a man in Ai and Bethel who hath not gone out after Israel, and they leave the city open, and pursue after Israel.

І не полишився ніхто в Аї та в Бет-Елі, хто не погнався б за Ізраїлем. І позоставили вони місто відчиненим, та й гналися за Ізраїлем.

18 A nd Jehovah saith unto Joshua, `Stretch out with the javelin which in thy hand towards Ai, for into thy hand I give it;' and Joshua stretcheth out with the javelin which in his hand toward the city,

І сказав Господь до Ісуса: Простягни списа, що в руці твоїй, до Аю, бо в руку твою його віддам. І простягнув Ісус списа, що в руці його, до міста.

19 a nd the ambush hath risen haste, out of its place, and they run at the stretching out of his hand, and go into the city, and capture it, and hasten, and burn the city with fire.

А засідка швидко встала зо свого місця, та й побігли, як він простягнув свою руку. І ввійшли вони до міста, і здобули його, і поквапилися та й підпалили те місто огнем.

20 A nd the men of Ai look behind them, and see, and lo, the smoke of the city hath gone up unto the heavens, and there hath not been in them power to flee hither and thither -- and the people who are fleeing to the wilderness have turned against the pursuer, --

І обернулися айські люди позад себе, та й побачили, аж ось знявся дим міста до неба! І не було в них сили, щоб утікати ані сюди, ані туди... А народ, що втікав до пустині, обернувся на тих, хто гнався за ним.

21 a nd Joshua and all Israel have seen that the ambush hath captured the city, and that the smoke of the city hath gone up, and they turn back and smite the men of Ai;

А Ісус та ввесь Ізраїль, як побачили, що засідка здобула те місто, і що знявся дим із міста, то вернулися, та й повбивали айських людей.

22 a nd these have come out from the city to meet them, and they are in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that, and they smite them till he hath not left to them a remnant and escaped one;

А ті повиходили з міста навперейми них, і опинилися серед Ізраїля: ті з цього боку, а ті з того. І повбивали їх, так що не позосталося з них нікого, хто врятувався б чи втік.

23 a nd the king of Ai they caught alive, and bring him near unto Joshua.

А айського царя вони схопили живого, і привели його до Ісуса.

24 A nd it cometh to pass, at Israel's finishing to slay all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness in which they pursued them (and they fall all of them by the mouth of the sword till their consumption), that all Israel turn back to Ai, and smite it by the mouth of the sword;

І сталося, як покінчив Ізраїль забивати всіх айських мешканців на полі, у пустині, що гнали їх по ній, і попадали вони від вістря меча аж до останнього, то вернувся ввесь Ізраїль до Аю, і перебили його вістрям меча.

25 a nd all who fall during the day, of men and of women, are twelve thousand -- all men of Ai.

І було всіх, що впали того дня, від чоловіка й аж до жінки, дванадцять тисяч, усі айські мешканці.

26 A nd Joshua hath not brought back his hand which he stretched out with the javelin till that he hath devoted all the inhabitants of Ai;

А Ісус не опускав своєї руки, що витягнув зо списом, аж поки не вчинив закляттям усіх айських мешканців.

27 o nly, the cattle and the spoil of that city have Israel spoiled for themselves, according to the word of Jehovah which He commanded Joshua.

Тільки худобу та здобич того міста позабирав собі Ізраїль за словом Господа, що наказав був Ісусові.

28 A nd Joshua burneth Ai, and maketh it a heap age-during -- a desolation unto this day;

І спалив Ісус Ай, і поклав його вічною руїною, пусткою, і так є аж до цього дня.

29 a nd the king of Ai he hath hanged on the tree till even-time, and at the going in of the sun hath Joshua commanded, and they take down his carcase from the tree, and cast it unto the opening of the gate of the city, and raise over it a great heap of stones till this day.

А айського царя повісив на дереві аж до вечірнього часу. А коли сонце заходило, Ісус наказав, і зняли його трупа з того дерева та й кинули його до входу брами міста. І накидали над ним велику камінну могилу, що стоїть аж до цього дня.

30 T hen doth Joshua build an altar to Jehovah, God of Israel, in mount Ebal,

Тоді Ісус збудував жертівника для Господа, Бога Ізраїлевого, на горі Евал,

31 a s Moses, servant of Jehovah, commanded the sons of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses -- an altar of whole stones, over which he hath not waved iron -- and they cause to go up upon it burnt-offerings to Jehovah, and sacrifice peace-offerings;

як наказав був Мойсей, раб Господній, Ізраїлевим синам, як написано в книзі Мойсеєвого Закону, жертівника з цілого каміння, що над ними не підіймали заліза. І принесли на ньому цілопалення для Господа, і приносили мирні жертви.

32 a nd he writeth there on the stones the copy of the law of Moses, which he hath written in the presence of the sons of Israel.

І він написав там на тих каміннях відписа Мойсеєвого Закону, що той написав перед Ізраїлевими синами.

33 A nd all Israel, and its elders, and authorities, and its judges, are standing on this side and on that of the ark, over-against the priests, the Levites, bearing the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, as well the sojourner as the native, half of them over-against mount Gerizim, and the half of them over-against mount Ebal, as Moses servant of Jehovah commanded to bless the people of Israel at the first.

А ввесь Ізраїль, і старші його, і урядники, і судді його, стояли з цього й з того боку ковчегу навпроти священиків-Левитів, що носять ковчега Господнього заповіту, як приходько, так і тубілець, половина його навпроти гори Ґарізім, а половина його навпроти гори Евал, як наказав був Мойсей, раб Господній, благословляти Ізраїлів народ найперше.

34 A nd afterwards he hath proclaimed all the words of the law, the blessing and the reviling, according to all that is written in the book of the law;

А потім він читав усі слова того Закону, благословення та прокляття, усе так, як написано в Законі.

35 t here hath not been a thing of all that Moses commanded which Joshua hath not proclaimed before all the assembly of Israel, and the women, and the infants, and the sojourner who is going in their midst.

Не було слова зо всього, що наказав був Мойсей, чого не читав би Ісус перед усіма зборами Ізраїля, і жінок, і дітей, і приходька, що ходить серед них.
