1 A nd the people see that Moses is delaying to come down from the mount, and the people assemble against Aaron, and say unto him, `Rise, make for us gods who go before us, for this Moses -- the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt -- we have not known what hath happened to him.'

І побачив народ, що загаявся Мойсей зійти з гори. І зібрався народ проти Аарона, та й сказали до нього: Устань, зроби нам богів, що будуть ходити перед нами, бо той Мойсей, муж, що вивів був нас із єгипетського краю, ми не знаємо, що сталось йому.

2 A nd Aaron saith unto them, `Break off the rings of gold which in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring in unto me;'

І сказав їм Аарон: Поздіймайте золоті сережки, що в ушах ваших жінок, ваших синів та дочок ваших, і поприносьте до мене.

3 a nd all the people themselves break off the rings of gold which in their ears, and bring in unto Aaron,

І ввесь народ поздіймав з себе золоті сережки, що в їхніх ушах, та й позносили до Аарона.

4 a nd he receiveth from their hand, and doth fashion it with a graving tool, and doth make it a molten calf, and they say, `These thy gods, O Israel, who brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.'

І взяв він це з їхньої руки, і вформував його в глині, і зробив із нього лите теля. А вони сказали: Оце твої боги, Ізраїлю, що вивели тебе з єгипетського краю!

5 A nd Aaron seeth, and buildeth an altar before it, and Aaron calleth, and saith, `A festival to Jehovah -- to-morrow;'

І побачив це Аарон, і збудував жертівника перед ним. І кликнув Аарон та й сказав: Завтра свято для Господа!

6 a nd they rise early on the morrow, and cause burnt-offerings to ascend, and bring nigh peace-offerings; and the people sit down to eat and to drink, and rise up to play.

І повставали вони взавтра рано вранці, і принесли цілопалення, і привели мирну жертву. І засів народ до їди та до пиття, і встали бавитися.

7 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Go, descend, for thy people whom thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt hath done corruptly,

А Господь промовляв до Мойсея: Іди, зійди, бо зіпсувся народ твій, якого ти вивів із єгипетського краю.

8 t hey have turned aside hastily from the way that I have commanded them; they have made for themselves a molten calf, and bow themselves to it, and sacrifice to it, and say, These thy gods, O Israel, who brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.'

Зійшли вони скоро з дороги, що наказав був Я їм, зробили собі лите теля, і поклонились йому, і склали йому жертви, та й сказали: Оце твої боги, Ізраїлю, що вивели тебе з єгипетського краю!

9 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `I have seen this people, and lo, it a stiff-necked people;

І промовив Господь до Мойсея: Я бачив народ той, і ось народ твердошиїй він!

10 a nd now, let Me alone, and My anger doth burn against them, and I consume them, and I make thee become a great nation.'

А тепер залиши Мене, і розпалиться гнів Мій на них, і Я винищу їх, а тебе зроблю великим народом.

11 A nd Moses appeaseth the face of Jehovah his God, and saith, `Why, O Jehovah, doth Thine anger burn against Thy people, whom Thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a strong hand?

І Мойсей став благати лице Господа, Бога свого, та й сказав: Нащо, Господи, розпалюється гнів Твій на народ Твій, якого Ти випровадив з єгипетського краю силою великою та міцною рукою?

12 w hy do the Egyptians speak, saying, For evil He brought them out to slay them among mountains, and to consume them from off the face of the ground? turn back from the heat of Thine anger, and repent of the evil against Thy people.

Нащо будуть казати єгиптяни, говорячи: На зле ти їх вивів, щоб їх повбивати в горах, та щоб винищити їх з-поверхні землі?... Вернися з розпалу гніву Свого, та й відверни зло від Свого народу!

13 ` Be mindful of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, Thy servants, to whom Thou hast sworn by Thyself, and unto whom Thou speakest: I multiply your seed as stars of the heavens, and all this land, as I have said, I give to your seed, and they have inherited to the age;'

Згадай про Авраама, Ісака та Ізраїля, рабів Своїх, що Ти їм присягався був Собою, та говорив їм: Помножу ваших нащадків, немов зорі небесні, і всю оту землю, що про неї казав, дам вашим нащадкам, і вони посядуть навіки.

14 a nd Jehovah repenteth of the evil which He hath spoken of doing to His people.

І відвернув Господь зло, про яке говорив, щоб зробити Своєму народові.

15 A nd Moses turneth, and goeth down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony in his hand, tables written on both their sides, on this and on that they written;

І повернувся, і зійшов Мойсей із гори, а в руці його дві таблиці свідоцтва, писані з обох їхніх сторін, звідси й звідти вони були писані.

16 a nd the tables are the work of God, and the writing is the writing of God, graven on the tables.

А таблиці Божа робота вони, а письмо Боже письмо воно, вирізьблене на таблицях.

17 A nd Joshua heareth the voice of the people in their shouting, and saith unto Moses, `A noise of battle in the camp!'

І почув Ісус голос народу, як кричав він, та й сказав до Мойсея: Крик бою в таборі!

18 a nd he saith, `It is not the voice of the crying of might, nor is it the voice of the crying of weakness -- a voice of singing I am hearing.'

А той відказав: Це не крик сили переможців і не крик слабости переможених, я чую голос співу!

19 A nd it cometh to pass, when he hath drawn near unto the camp, that he seeth the calf, and the dancing, and the anger of Moses burneth, and he casteth out of his hands the tables, and breaketh them under the mount;

І сталося, коли він наблизився до табору, то побачив теля те та танці... І розпалився гнів Мойсеїв, і він кинув таблиці із рук своїх, та й розторощив їх під горою!...

20 a nd he taketh the calf which they have made, and burneth with fire, and grindeth until small, and scattereth on the face of the waters, and causeth the sons of Israel to drink.

І схопив він теля, що зробили вони, та й спалив на огні, та змолов, аж став порох... І розсипав на поверхні води, і напоїв тим синів Ізраїлевих.

21 A nd Moses saith unto Aaron, `What hath this people done to thee, that thou hast brought in upon it a great sin?'

І сказав Мойсей Ааронові: Що вчинив тобі народ цей, що ти гріх великий навів на нього?

22 a nd Aaron saith, `Let not the anger of my lord burn; thou -- thou hast known the people that it in evil;

А Аарон відказав: Нехай не запалиться гнів мого пана! Ти знаєш народ цей, що він у злому.

23 a nd they say to me, Make for us gods, who go before us, for this Moses -- the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt -- we have not known what hath happened to him;

І вони сказали мені: Зроби нам богів, що будуть ходити перед нами, бо той Мойсей, муж, що вивів нас із єгипетського краю, ми не знаємо, що сталось йому.

24 a nd I say to them, Whoso hath gold, let them break off, and they give to me, and I cast it into the fire, and this calf cometh out.'

І сказав я до них: Хто має золото, поздіймайте з себе. І дали вони мені, а я кинув його в огонь, і вийшло те теля.

25 A nd Moses seeth the people that it unbridled, for Aaron hath made it unbridled for contempt among its withstanders,

І побачив Мойсей народ, що незагнузданий він, бо Аарон розгнуздав його на ганьбу поміж їхніми ворогами.

26 a nd Moses standeth in the gate of the camp, and saith, `Who for Jehovah? -- unto me!' and all the sons of Levi are gathered unto him;

І став Мойсей у брамі табору й сказав: Хто за Господа до мене! І зібралися до нього всі Левіїні сини.

27 a nd he saith to them, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Put each his sword by his thigh, pass over and turn back from gate to gate through the camp, and slay each his brother, and each his friend, and each his relation.'

І сказав він до них: Так сказав Господь, Бог Ізраїлів: Припашіть кожен меча свого на стегно своє, перейдіть, і верніться від брами до брами в таборі, і повбивайте кожен брата свого, і кожен приятеля свого, і кожен ближнього свого.

28 A nd the sons of Levi do according to the word of Moses, and there fall of the people on that day about three thousand men,

І зробили Левіїні сини за словом Мойсеєвим. І впало з народу того дня близько трьох тисяч чоловіка.

29 a nd Moses saith, `Consecrate your hand to-day to Jehovah, for a man against his son, and against his brother, so as to bring on you to-day a blessing.'

І сказав Мойсей: Освятіть сьогодні себе для Господа, бо кожен мстився на сині своїм та на браті своїм, і щоб сьогодні Він дав вам благословення.

30 A nd it cometh to pass, on the morrow, that Moses saith unto the people, `Ye -- ye have sinned a great sin, and now I go up unto Jehovah, if so be I atone for your sin.'

І сталося назавтра, і сказав Мойсей до народу: Ви згрішили великим гріхом, а тепер зійду я до Господа, може складу окуплення за ваш гріх.

31 A nd Moses turneth back unto Jehovah, and saith, `Oh this people hath sinned a great sin, that they make to themselves a god of gold;

І вернувся Мойсей до Господа та й сказав: О, згрішив цей народ великим гріхом, вони зробили собі золотих богів!

32 a nd now, if Thou takest away their sin -- and if not -- blot me, I pray thee, out of Thy book which Thou hast written.'

А тепер, коли б Ти пробачив їм їхній гріх! А як ні, витри мене з книги Своєї, яку Ти написав...

33 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Whoso hath sinned against Me -- I blot him out of My book;

І промовив Господь до Мойсея: Хто згрішив Мені, того витру із книги Своєї.

34 a nd now, go, lead the people whithersoever I have spoken to thee of; lo, My messenger goeth before thee, and in the day of my charging -- then I have charged upon them their sin.'

А тепер іди, провадь цей народ туди, куди казав Я тобі. Ось Мій Ангол піде перед лицем твоїм. А в день кари Моєї покараю їх за їхній гріх!

35 A nd Jehovah plagueth the people, because they made the calf which Aaron made.

І Господь ударив той народ за те, що вони зробили теля, яке Аарон учинив був.
