1 A nd the people see that Moses is delaying to come down from the mount, and the people assemble against Aaron, and say unto him, `Rise, make for us gods who go before us, for this Moses -- the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt -- we have not known what hath happened to him.'

Увидев, что Моисей медлит спускаться с горы, народ собрался вокруг Аарона и сказал: – Послушай, сделай нам богов, которые пойдут перед нами. А что до этого Моисея, который вывел нас из Египта, – мы не знаем, что с ним случилось.

2 A nd Aaron saith unto them, `Break off the rings of gold which in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring in unto me;'

Аарон ответил им: – Снимите золотые серьги с ваших жен, сыновей и дочерей и принесите их мне.

3 a nd all the people themselves break off the rings of gold which in their ears, and bring in unto Aaron,

Народ снял золотые серьги и принес их Аарону.

4 a nd he receiveth from their hand, and doth fashion it with a graving tool, and doth make it a molten calf, and they say, `These thy gods, O Israel, who brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.'

Он взял то, что они принесли ему, и сделал из этого золота литого тельца, придав ему вид резцом. Тогда они сказали: – Вот твои боги, Израиль, которые вывели тебя из Египта.

5 A nd Aaron seeth, and buildeth an altar before it, and Aaron calleth, and saith, `A festival to Jehovah -- to-morrow;'

Увидев это, Аарон поставил перед тельцом жертвенник и возвестил: – Завтра – праздник Господу.

6 a nd they rise early on the morrow, and cause burnt-offerings to ascend, and bring nigh peace-offerings; and the people sit down to eat and to drink, and rise up to play.

Встав на следующий день рано утром, они принесли всесожжения и жертвы примирения. Народ сел есть и пить, а потом встал веселиться.

7 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Go, descend, for thy people whom thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt hath done corruptly,

Тогда Господь сказал Моисею: – Спускайся с горы. Твой народ, который ты вывел из Египта, развратился.

8 t hey have turned aside hastily from the way that I have commanded them; they have made for themselves a molten calf, and bow themselves to it, and sacrifice to it, and say, These thy gods, O Israel, who brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.'

Как скоро они уклонились от того, что Я повелел им! Они сделали себе литого тельца, поклонились ему и принесли ему жертвы, говоря: «Вот твои боги, Израиль, которые вывели тебя из Египта».

9 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `I have seen this people, and lo, it a stiff-necked people;

– Я вижу этот народ, – сказал Господь Моисею, – он упрям.

10 a nd now, let Me alone, and My anger doth burn against them, and I consume them, and I make thee become a great nation.'

Итак, оставь Меня. Я обращу Свой гнев на них и погублю их. Потом Я произведу великий народ от тебя.

11 A nd Moses appeaseth the face of Jehovah his God, and saith, `Why, O Jehovah, doth Thine anger burn against Thy people, whom Thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a strong hand?

Но Моисей принялся умолять Господа, своего Бога: – Господи, – сказал он, – зачем Тебе гневаться на Свой народ, который Ты вывел из Египта великой силой и могучей рукой?

12 w hy do the Egyptians speak, saying, For evil He brought them out to slay them among mountains, and to consume them from off the face of the ground? turn back from the heat of Thine anger, and repent of the evil against Thy people.

Зачем египтянам давать повод говорить: «Он вывел их со злым умыслом, чтобы убить в горах и стереть с лица земли?» Оставь Свой пылающий гнев, смягчись, не наводи на Свой народ беду.

13 ` Be mindful of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, Thy servants, to whom Thou hast sworn by Thyself, and unto whom Thou speakest: I multiply your seed as stars of the heavens, and all this land, as I have said, I give to your seed, and they have inherited to the age;'

Вспомни Твоих слуг Авраама, Исаака и Израиля, которым Ты клялся Собой: «Я дам вам столько потомков, сколько на небе звезд. Весь этот край, который Я обещал отдать им, будет достоянием ваших потомков навеки».

14 a nd Jehovah repenteth of the evil which He hath spoken of doing to His people.

Господь смягчился и не навел на Свой народ беду, которой грозил.

15 A nd Moses turneth, and goeth down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony in his hand, tables written on both their sides, on this and on that they written;

Моисей повернулся и сошел с горы с двумя каменными плитками свидетельства в руках. Они были исписаны с обеих сторон, спереди и сзади.

16 a nd the tables are the work of God, and the writing is the writing of God, graven on the tables.

Бог сделал эти плитки и Он высек на них Свои письмена.

17 A nd Joshua heareth the voice of the people in their shouting, and saith unto Moses, `A noise of battle in the camp!'

Когда Иисус услышал гул кричащего народа, он сказал Моисею: – В лагере шум битвы.

18 a nd he saith, `It is not the voice of the crying of might, nor is it the voice of the crying of weakness -- a voice of singing I am hearing.'

Но Моисей ответил: – Это не клич победителей, не плач побежденных: голос поющих я слышу.

19 A nd it cometh to pass, when he hath drawn near unto the camp, that he seeth the calf, and the dancing, and the anger of Moses burneth, and he casteth out of his hands the tables, and breaketh them under the mount;

Подойдя к лагерю и увидев тельца и пляски, Моисей разгневался. Он бросил каменные плитки, которые нес, разбив их на куски у подножия горы.

20 a nd he taketh the calf which they have made, and burneth with fire, and grindeth until small, and scattereth on the face of the waters, and causeth the sons of Israel to drink.

Он взял сделанного ими тельца и расплавил его в огне. Он стер его в порошок, рассыпал по воде и заставил израильтян пить эту воду.

21 A nd Moses saith unto Aaron, `What hath this people done to thee, that thou hast brought in upon it a great sin?'

Он сказал Аарону: – Что сделали тебе эти люди, что ты ввел их в такой страшный грех?

22 a nd Aaron saith, `Let not the anger of my lord burn; thou -- thou hast known the people that it in evil;

– Не гневайся, мой господин, – ответил Аарон. – Ты знаешь, как склонны эти люди к злу.

23 a nd they say to me, Make for us gods, who go before us, for this Moses -- the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt -- we have not known what hath happened to him;

Они сказали мне: «Сделай нам богов, которые пойдут перед нами. А что до этого Моисея, который вывел нас из Египта, мы не знаем, что с ним случилось».

24 a nd I say to them, Whoso hath gold, let them break off, and they give to me, and I cast it into the fire, and this calf cometh out.'

Тогда я сказал им: «У кого есть золотые украшения, пусть снимет их». Они дали мне золото, я бросил его в огонь и вышел этот телец!

25 A nd Moses seeth the people that it unbridled, for Aaron hath made it unbridled for contempt among its withstanders,

Моисей увидел, что люди необузданны, потому что Аарон позволил им это на посмешище врагам.

26 a nd Moses standeth in the gate of the camp, and saith, `Who for Jehovah? -- unto me!' and all the sons of Levi are gathered unto him;

Он встал у входа в лагерь и сказал: – Кто за Господа – ко мне, – и вокруг него собрались все левиты.

27 a nd he saith to them, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Put each his sword by his thigh, pass over and turn back from gate to gate through the camp, and slay each his brother, and each his friend, and each his relation.'

Он сказал им: – Так говорит Господь, Бог Израиля: «Все опояшьтесь мечом! Идите через лагерь от одного конца к другому и обратно, убивая братьев, друзей и ближних».

28 A nd the sons of Levi do according to the word of Moses, and there fall of the people on that day about three thousand men,

Левиты сделали, как повелел Моисей, и в тот день из народа погибло около трех тысяч человек.

29 a nd Moses saith, `Consecrate your hand to-day to Jehovah, for a man against his son, and against his brother, so as to bring on you to-day a blessing.'

Моисей сказал: – Сегодня вы посвятили себя служению Господу ценой сыновей и братьев, и Он благословил вас.

30 A nd it cometh to pass, on the morrow, that Moses saith unto the people, `Ye -- ye have sinned a great sin, and now I go up unto Jehovah, if so be I atone for your sin.'

На другой день Моисей сказал народу: – Вы совершили страшный грех. Но сейчас я поднимусь к Господу, может быть, я смогу загладить ваш грех.

31 A nd Moses turneth back unto Jehovah, and saith, `Oh this people hath sinned a great sin, that they make to themselves a god of gold;

Моисей вернулся к Господу и сказал: – Да, эти люди совершили страшный грех, сделав себе золотых богов.

32 a nd now, if Thou takest away their sin -- and if not -- blot me, I pray thee, out of Thy book which Thou hast written.'

Но теперь, молю, прости их, а если не простишь – так сотри мое имя из книги, которую Ты написал.

33 A nd Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Whoso hath sinned against Me -- I blot him out of My book;

Господь ответил Моисею: – Того, кто грешит против Меня, Я сотру из Моей книги.

34 a nd now, go, lead the people whithersoever I have spoken to thee of; lo, My messenger goeth before thee, and in the day of my charging -- then I have charged upon them their sin.'

А теперь ступай, веди народ туда, куда Я тебе сказал, и Мой Ангел пойдет перед тобой. Но когда придет срок, Я накажу их за грех.

35 A nd Jehovah plagueth the people, because they made the calf which Aaron made.

Господь поразил народ мором за то, что они сделали тельца – того, которого изготовил Аарон.
