1 A nd all the people are gathered as one man unto the broad place that before the water-gate, and they say to Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, that Jehovah commanded Israel.

Когда наступил седьмой месяц и израильтяне уже поселились в своих городах, весь народ, как один человек, собрался на площади перед Водными воротами. Они сказали книжнику Ездре принести книгу Закона Моисея, которую дал Израилю Господь.

2 A nd Ezra the priest bringeth the law before the assembly, both of men and women, and every one intelligent to hear, on the first day of the seventh month,

И в первый день седьмого месяца священник Ездра принес Закон на собрание, где присутствовали мужчины и женщины и все, кто способен понимать.

3 a nd he readeth in it before the broad place that before the water-gate, from the light till the middle of the day, over-against the men, and the women, and those intelligent, and the ears of all the people unto the book of the law.

Он читал его вслух с рассвета до полудня на площади, что перед Водными воротами, перед мужчинами, женщинами и прочими, кто мог понимать. И весь народ внимательно слушал книгу Закона.

4 A nd Ezra the scribe standeth on a tower of wood that they made for the purpose, and Mattithiah standeth near him, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right; and on his left Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchijah, and Hashum, and Hashbaddana, Zechariah, Meshullam.

Книжник Ездра стоял на высоком деревянном помосте, построенном для этого случая, а рядом, справа от него стояли Маттифия, Шема, Анаия, Урия, Хелкия и Маасея, а слева от него – Педая, Мисаил, Малхия, Хашум, Хашбаддана, Захария и Мешуллам.

5 A nd Ezra openeth the book before the eyes of all the people -- for above all the people he hath been -- and at his opening all the people have stood up,

Ездра раскрыл свиток. Весь народ мог видеть его, потому что он стоял над ними, и когда он раскрыл его, весь народ встал.

6 a nd Ezra blesseth Jehovah, the great God, and all the people answer, `Amen, Amen,' with lifting up of their hands, and they bow and do obeisance to Jehovah -- faces to the earth.

Ездра восславил Господа, великого Бога, и весь народ, подняв руки, ответил: «Аминь! Аминь!» Они поклонились и почтили Господа, склонившись лицом до земли.

7 A nd Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, giving the people understanding in the law, and the people, on their station,

Иисус, Ванаия, Шеревия, Иамин, Аккув, Шавтай, Годия, Маасея, Клита, Азария, Иозавад, Ханан и Фелаия – левиты – наставляли народ в Законе, пока народ стоял там.

8 a nd they read in the book, in the law of God, explaining -- so as to give the meaning, and they give understanding to the convocation.

Они читали из книги Божьего Закона, поясняя и истолковывая, чтобы народ мог понимать прочитанное.

9 A nd Nehemiah -- he the Tirshatha -- saith (and Ezra the priest, the scribe, and the Levites who are instructing the people) to all the people, `To-day is holy to Jehovah your God, do not mourn, nor weep:' for all the people are weeping at their hearing the words of the law.

Наместник Неемия, и Ездра, священник и книжник, и левиты, которые наставляли народ, сказали всем им: – Этот день свят для Господа, вашего Бога. Не скорбите и не плачьте. (Ведь, слушая слова Закона, весь народ плакал.)

10 A nd he saith to them, `Go, eat fat things, and drink sweet things, and sent portions to him for whom nothing is prepared, for to-day holy to our Lord, and be not grieved, for the joy of Jehovah is your strength.'

Неемия сказал им: – Идите, ешьте лучшую еду, пейте сладкие вина и посылайте долю тем, кто ничего не приготовил. Этот день свят для нашего Владыки. Не печальтесь, ведь Господня радость – ваша сила!

11 A nd the Levites are keeping all the people silent, saying, `Be silent, for to-day holy, and be not grieved.'

Левиты успокаивали весь народ, говоря: – Перестаньте, ведь это – святой день. Не печальтесь!

12 A nd all the people go to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great joy, because they have understood concerning the words that they made known to them.

И весь народ разошелся, чтобы есть и пить, посылать доли и праздновать с великой радостью, потому что теперь они поняли слова, которые были объявлены им. Праздник Шалашей

13 A nd on the second day have been gathered heads of the fathers of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, unto Ezra the scribe, even to act wisely concerning the words of the law.

На второй день месяца главы семейств всего народа вместе со священниками и левитами собрались вокруг книжника Ездры, чтобы внимать словам Закона.

14 A nd they find written in the law that Jehovah commanded by the hand of Moses, that the sons of Israel dwell in booths in the feast, in the seventh month,

Они нашли, что в Законе, который был дан Господом через Моисея, написано, что во время праздника седьмого месяца израильтяне должны жить в шалашах,

15 a nd that they proclaim and cause to pass over all their cities, (and in Jerusalem,) saying, `Go ye out to the mount, and bring leaves of the olive, and leaves of the oil tree, and leaves of the myrtle, and leaves of the palms, and leaves of thick trees, to make booths as it is written.'

и что они должны провозглашать и объявлять во всех своих городах и Иерусалиме так: «Выходите в нагорья и принесите оттуда ветви олив и маслин, мирта, пальм и других ветвистых деревьев, чтобы сделать шалаши», – как было написано.

16 A nd the people go out, and bring in, and make for themselves booths, each on his roof, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the broad place of the water-gate, and in the broad place of the gate of Ephraim.

Люди вышли и принесли ветви, и сделали себе шалаши, каждый у себя на крыше и во дворах, во дворе дома Божьего и на площади у Водных ворот, и на той, что у ворот Ефрема.

17 A nd they make -- all the assembly of the captives of the captivity -- booths, and they sit in booths; for the sons of Israel had not done, from the days of Jeshua son of Nun, so unto that day, and there is very great joy.

Все вернувшиеся из плена делали шалаши и жили в них. Со дней Иисуса, сына Навина, до этого дня израильтяне не делали так, и радость их была очень велика.

18 A nd he readeth in the book of the law of God day by day, from the first day till the last day, and they make a feast seven days, and on the eighth day a restraint, according to the ordinance.

Изо дня в день – с первого дня до последнего – Ездра читал из книги Божьего Закона. Они отмечали праздник семь дней, а на восьмой день, по уставу, было торжественное собрание.
