1 A nd the word of Samuel is to all Israel, and Israel goeth out to meet the Philistines for battle, and they encamp by Eben-Ezer, and the Philistines have encamped in Aphek,

И было слово Самуила ко всему Израилю. Филистимляне захватывают ковчег В то время израильтяне выступили, чтобы сразиться с филистимлянами. Израильтяне разбили лагерь при Эвен-Езере, а филистимляне – при Афеке.

2 a nd the Philistines set themselves in array to meet Israel, and the battle spreadeth itself, and Israel is smitten before the Philistines, and they smite among the ranks in the field about four thousand men.

Филистимляне выставили свои силы навстречу Израилю, и в битве израильтяне были разбиты филистимлянами, которые убили на поле сражения около четырех тысяч человек.

3 A nd the people cometh in unto the camp, and the elders of Israel say, `Why hath Jehovah smitten us to-day before the Philistines? we take unto us from Shiloh the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and it cometh into our midst, and He doth save us out of the hand of our enemies.'

Когда воины вернулись в лагерь, старейшины Израиля спросили: − Почему Господь предал нас сегодня поражению перед филистимлянами? Давайте принесем ковчег завета Господа из Шило, чтобы он был с нами и спас нас от руки врагов.

4 A nd the people sendeth to Shiloh, and they take up thence the ark of the covenant of Jehovah of Hosts, inhabiting the cherubs, and there two sons of Eli, with the ark of the covenant of God, Hophni and Phinehas.

Народ послал в Шило несколько человек, и они принесли ковчег завета Господа Сил, Который восседает на херувимах. А двое сыновей Илия, Хофни и Пинехас, пришли вместе с ковчегом завета Бога.

5 A nd it cometh to pass, at the coming in of the ark of the covenant of Jehovah unto the camp, that all Israel shout -- a great shout -- and the earth is moved.

Когда ковчег завета Господа прибыл в лагерь, все израильтяне подняли такой громкий крик, что земля откликнулась эхом.

6 A nd the Philistines hear the noise of the shouting, and say, `What the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews?' and they perceive that the ark of Jehovah hath come in unto the camp.

Услышав шум восклицаний, филистимляне спросили: − Что значит весь этот крик в еврейском лагере? Узнав, что в лагерь доставлен ковчег завета Господа,

7 A nd the Philistines are afraid, for they said, `God hath come in unto the camp;' and they say, `Wo to us, for there hath not been like this heretofore.

филистимляне испугались. − Бог пришел в их лагерь, − говорили они. − Мы попали в беду! Ничего подобного до сих пор не случалось.

8 W o to us, who doth deliver us out of the hand of these honourable gods? these the gods who are smiting the Egyptians with every plague in the wilderness.

Горе нам! Кто избавит нас от руки Этого могучего Бога? Это же Тот Бог, Который поразил египтян в пустыне всяческими наказаниями.

9 S trengthen yourselves, and become men, O Philistines, lest ye do service to Hebrews, as they have done to you -- then ye have become men, and have fought.'

Крепитесь, филистимляне! Мужайтесь, чтобы не быть рабами у евреев, как они были у вас. Будьте мужественными и сражайтесь!

10 A nd the Philistines fight, and Israel is smitten, and they flee each to his tents, and the blow is very great, and there fall of Israel thirty thousand footmen;

Филистимляне сразились, и израильтяне были разбиты, потерпев большое поражение. Все разбежались по своим шатрам. Израиль потерял тридцать тысяч пеших воинов.

11 a nd the ark of God hath been taken, and the two sons of Eli have died, Hophni and Phinehas.

Ковчег Бога был захвачен, а двое сыновей Илия, Хофни и Пинехас, погибли. Смерть в доме Илия

12 A nd a man of Benjamin runneth out of the ranks, and cometh into Shiloh, on that day, and his long robes rent, and earth on his head;

В тот же самый день один вениамитянин бежал с места сражения и пришел в Шило. Его одежды были разорваны, а голова покрыта пылью.

13 a nd he cometh in, and lo, Eli is sitting on the throne by the side of the way, watching, for his heart hath been trembling for the ark of God, and the man hath come in to declare in the city, and all the city crieth out.

Когда он пришел, Илий сидел у обочины дороги и смотрел, потому что его сердце волновалось за ковчег Бога. Когда человек вошел в город и рассказал, что случилось, весь город поднял вопль.

14 A nd Eli heareth the noise of the cry, and saith, `What -- the noise of this tumult!' And the man hasted, and cometh in, and declareth to Eli.

Услышав вопль, Илий спросил: − Что это за шум? Человек поспешил прийти к Илию,

15 A nd Eli is a son of ninety and eight years, and his eyes have stood, and he hath not been able to see.

которому было девяносто восемь лет и чьи глаза померкли настолько, что он не мог видеть.

16 A nd the man saith unto Eli, `I he who hath come out of the ranks, and I out of the ranks have fled to-day;' and he saith, `What hath been the matter, my son?'

Он сказал Илию: − Я только что пришел с места сражения; я бежал оттуда сегодня. Илий спросил: − Что случилось, мой сын?

17 A nd he who is bearing tidings answereth and saith, `Israel hath fled before the Philistines, and also a great slaughter hath been among the people, and also thy two sons have died -- Hophni and Phinehas -- and the ark of God hath been captured.'

Вестник ответил: − Израиль бежал перед филистимлянами, войско понесло тяжелые потери. Двое твоих сыновей, Хофни и Пинехас, мертвы, а ковчег Бога захвачен.

18 A nd it cometh to pass, at his mentioning the ark of God, that he falleth from off the throne backward, by the side of the gate, and his neck is broken, and he dieth, for the man old and heavy, and he hath judged Israel forty years.

Когда он упомянул о ковчеге Бога, Илий упал навзничь со своего сиденья у ворот. Он сломал себе шею и умер, потому что был стар и грузен. Он был судьей в Израиле сорок лет.

19 A nd his daughter-in-law, wife of Phinehas, pregnant, about to bear, and she heareth the report of the taking of the ark of God, that her father-in-law and her husband have died, and she boweth, and beareth, for her pains have turned upon her.

Его невестка, жена Пинехаса, была тогда беременна и скоро должна была родить. Когда она услышала о том, что ковчег Бога захвачен, а ее свекор и муж умерли, она согнулась от боли, потому что у нее начались схватки, и родила.

20 A nd at the time of her death, when the women who are standing by her say, `Fear not, for a son thou hast borne,' she hath not answered, nor set her heart;

Когда она умирала, женщины, которые ухаживали за ней, говорили: − Не бойся; ты родила сына. Но она не отвечала и ни на что не обращала внимания.

21 a nd she calleth the youth I-Chabod, saying, `Honour hath removed from Israel,' because of the taking of the ark of God, and because of her father-in-law and her husband.

Она назвала мальчика Ихавод, говоря: «Слава покинула Израиль», − потому что ковчег Бога был захвачен, а ее свекор и муж погибли.

22 A nd she saith, `Honour hath removed from Israel, for the ark of God hath been taken.'

Она сказала: – Слава покинула Израиль, потому что ковчег Бога захвачен.
