1 A nd Jehovah saith unto Samuel, `Till when art thou mourning for Saul, and I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thy horn with oil, and go, I send thee unto Jesse the Beth-Lehemite, for I have seen among his sons for Myself a king.

Господь сказал Самуилу: − Сколько ты еще будешь скорбеть по Саулу? Я отверг его как царя над Израилем. Наполни рог маслом и отправляйся в путь. Я посылаю тебя к Иессею из Вифлеема. Я выбрал Себе в цари одного из его сыновей.

2 A nd Samuel saith, `How do I go? when Saul hath heard, then he hath slain me.' And Jehovah saith, `A heifer of the herd thou dost take in thy hand, and hast said, To sacrifice to Jehovah I have come;

Но Самуил спросил: − Как же я пойду? Саул услышит об этом и убьет меня. Господь ответил: − Возьми с собой телицу и скажи: «Я пришел, чтобы принести жертву Господу».

3 a nd thou hast called for Jesse in the sacrifice, and I cause thee to know that which thou dost do, and thou hast anointed to Me him of whom I speak unto thee.'

Пригласи Иессея к жертве, и Я укажу тебе, что делать. Ты должен помазать Мне того, кого Я укажу.

4 A nd Samuel doth that which Jehovah hath spoken, and cometh in to Beth-Lehem, and the elders of the city tremble to meet him, and saith, `Is thy coming peace?'

Самуил сделал, как сказал Господь. Когда он пришел в Вифлеем, старейшины города с трепетом вышли ему навстречу. Они спросили: − Ты пришел с миром?

5 a nd he saith, `Peace; to sacrifice to Jehovah I have come, sanctify yourselves, and ye have come in with me to the sacrifice;' and he sanctifieth Jesse and his sons, and calleth them to the sacrifice.

Самуил ответил: − Да, с миром. Я пришел, чтобы принести жертву Господу. Освятитесь и идите к жертве со мной. Затем он освятил Иессея и его сыновей и пригласил их к жертве.

6 A nd it cometh to pass, in their coming in, that he seeth Eliab, and saith, `Surely, before Jehovah His anointed.'

Когда они пришли, Самуил увидел Елиава и подумал: «Конечно, это помазанник Господа стоит здесь перед Господом ».

7 A nd Jehovah saith unto Samuel, `Look not unto his appearance, and unto the height of his stature, for I have rejected him; for not as man seeth -- for man looketh at the eyes, and Jehovah looketh at the heart.'

Но Господь сказал Самуилу: − Не смотри на его внешность и на высокий рост, потому что Я отверг его. Господь смотрит не так, как человек. Человек смотрит на внешний вид, а Господь смотрит на сердце.

8 A nd Jesse calleth unto Abinadab, and causeth him to pass by before Samuel; and he saith, `Also on this Jehovah hath not fixed.'

Тогда Иессей позвал Авинадава и провел его перед Самуилом. Но Самуил сказал: − Господь не выбрал и этого.

9 A nd Jesse causeth Shammah to pass by, and he saith, `Also on this Jehovah hath not fixed.'

Тогда Иессей провел Шамму, но Самуил сказал: − Господь не выбрал и этого.

10 A nd Jesse causeth seven of his sons to pass by before Samuel, and Samuel saith to Jesse, `Jehovah hath not fixed on these.'

Иессей провел перед Самуилом семерых своих сыновей, но Самуил сказал ему: − Господь не выбрал их.

11 A nd Samuel saith unto Jesse, `Are the young men finished?' and he saith, `Yet hath been left the youngest; and lo, he delighteth himself among the flock;' and Samuel saith unto Jesse, `Send and take him, for we do not turn round till his coming in hither.'

Он спросил Иессея: − Все ли твои сыновья здесь? − Есть еще самый младший, − ответил Иессей, − но он пасет овец. Самуил сказал: − Пошли за ним и приведи его. Мы не сядем, пока он не придет сюда.

12 A nd he sendeth, and bringeth him in, and he ruddy, with beauty of eyes, and of good appearance; and Jehovah saith, `Rise, anoint him, for this he.'

Он послал за ним, и его привели. Он был румяным, с красивыми глазами и приятной внешностью. Господь сказал: − Встань и помажь его − это он.

13 A nd Samuel taketh the horn of oil, and anointeth him in the midst of his brethren, and prosper over David doth the Spirit of Jehovah from that day and onwards; and Samuel riseth and goeth to Ramath.

Самуил взял рог с маслом и помазал Давида в присутствии братьев. Тогда Дух Господень сошел на Давида и с того дня пребывал на нем. Самуил же вернулся в Раму. Давид на службе у Саула

14 A nd the Spirit of Jehovah turned aside from Saul, and a spirit of sadness from Jehovah terrified him;

Дух Господа отошел от Саула, и злой дух от Господа мучил его.

15 a nd the servants of Saul say unto him, `Lo, we pray thee, a spirit of sadness God is terrifying thee;

Слуги Саула сказали ему: − Злой дух от Бога мучит тебя.

16 l et our lord command, we pray thee, thy servants before thee, they seek a skilful man, playing on a harp, and it hath come to pass, in the spirit of sadness God being upon thee, that he hath played with his hand, and well with thee.'

Пусть наш господин велит своим слугам найти кого-нибудь, кто умеет играть на арфе. Он будет играть, когда злой дух от Бога будет находить на тебя, и тебе будет лучше.

17 A nd Saul saith unto his servants, `Provide, I pray you, for me a man playing well -- then ye have brought in unto me.'

Саул сказал слугам: − Найдите кого-нибудь, кто хорошо играет на арфе, и приведите его ко мне.

18 A nd one of the servants answereth and saith, `Lo, I have seen a son of Jesse the Beth-Lehemite, skilful in playing, and a mighty virtuous man, and a man of battle, and intelligent in word, and a man of form, and Jehovah with him.'

Один из его слуг ответил: − Я видел сына Иессея из Вифлеема. Он умеет играть на арфе. Он храбрый человек и воин, благоразумен в речах, хорошо выглядит, и Господь с ним.

19 A nd Saul sendeth messengers unto Jesse, and saith, `Send unto me David thy son, who with the flock.'

Саул послал вестников к Иессею и сказал: − Отошли ко мне своего сына Давида, который пасет овец.

20 A nd Jesse taketh an ass, bread, and a bottle of wine, and one kid of the goats, and sendeth by the hand of David his son unto Saul.

Иессей взял осла, навьючил на него лепешки, взял козленка и бурдюк с вином и послал все это вместе со своим сыном Давидом к Саулу.

21 A nd David cometh in unto Saul, and standeth before him, and he loveth him greatly; and he is a bearer of his weapons.

Давид явился к Саулу и поступил к нему на службу. Саул очень полюбил его, и Давид стал одним из его оруженосцев.

22 A nd Saul sendeth unto Jesse, saying, `Let David, I pray thee, stand before me, for he hath found grace in mine eyes.'

Саул послал сказать Иессею: − Позволь Давиду остаться у меня на службе, потому что я им доволен.

23 A nd it hath come to pass, in the spirit of God being on Saul, that David hath taken the harp, and played with his hand, and Saul hath refreshment and gladness, and the spirit of sadness hath turned aside from off him.

Всякий раз, когда дух от Бога находил на Саула, Давид брал свою арфу и играл. Саулу становилось легче, и злой дух оставлял его.
