1 A son of seven years Joash in his reigning, and forty years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother Zibiah of Beer-Sheba.

Иоашу было семь лет, когда он стал царем, и правил он в Иерусалиме сорок лет. Его мать звали Цивья; она была родом из Вирсавии.

2 A nd Joash doth that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

Иоаш делал то, что было правильным в глазах Господа, все время, пока был жив священник Иодай.

3 A nd Jehoiada taketh for him two wives, and he begetteth sons and daughters.

Иодай выбрал для него двух жен, и у него родились сыновья и дочери. Иоаш восстанавливает поврежденный храм (4 Цар. 12: 4-16)

4 A nd it cometh to pass after this, it hath been with the heart of Joash to renew the house of Jehovah,

Спустя некоторое время Иоаш решил восстановить дом Господа.

5 a nd he gathereth the priests and the Levites, and saith to them, `Go out to the cities of Judah, and gather from all Israel money to strengthen the house of your God sufficiently year by year, and ye, ye do haste to the matter;' and the Levites have not hasted.

Он собрал священников и левитов и сказал им: – Ходите по городам Иудеи и собирайте со всех израильтян деньги, которые должны ежегодно поступать на поддержание дома вашего Бога. Смотрите, не мешкайте. Но левиты не стали спешить.

6 A nd the king calleth for Jehoiada the head, and saith to him, `Wherefore hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the tribute of Moses, servant of Jehovah, and of the assembly of Israel, for the tent of the testimony?

Тогда царь призвал первосвященника Иодая и сказал ему: – Почему ты не требуешь от левитов, чтобы они приносили от Иудеи и Иерусалима налог, установленный слугой Господа Моисеем, и обществом Израиля для скинии свидетельства?

7 f or sons of Athaliah, the wicked one, have broken up the house of God, and also, all the holy things of the house of Jehovah they have prepared for Baalim.'

(Сыновья нечестивой Аталии повредили Божий дом и даже использовали его священную утварь в служении Баалам.)

8 A nd the king speaketh, and they make one chest, and put it at the gate of the house of Jehovah without,

По повелению царя был изготовлен ящик, который поставили снаружи, у ворот Господнего дома.

9 a nd give an intimation in Judah and in Jerusalem to bring in to Jehovah the tribute of Moses, servant of God, on Israel in the wilderness.

Затем по Иудее и Иерусалиму было объявлено, чтобы они приносили Господу дань, которую установил для израильтян в пустыне Божий слуга Моисей.

10 A nd all the heads, and all the people rejoice, and they bring in, and cast into the chest, unto completion.

Все приближенные и весь народ с радостью приносили деньги и бросали их в ящик, пока он не наполнился.

11 A nd it cometh to pass, at the time one bringeth in the chest for the inspection of the king by the hand of the Levites, and at their seeing that the money abundant, that a scribe of the king hath come in, and an officer of the head-priest, and they empty the chest, and take it up and turn it back unto its place; thus they have done day by day, and gather money in abundance.

Всякий раз, когда левиты приносили ящик к царским чиновникам и те видели, что в нем много денег, царский писарь и поверенный первосвященника приходили и опустошали ящик, и его снова относили на место. Они делали это постоянно и собрали много денег.

12 A nd the king and Jehoiada give it unto the doers of the work of the service of the house of Jehovah, and they are hiring hewers and artificers to renew the house of Jehovah, and also -- to artificers in iron and brass to strengthen the house of Jehovah.

Царь и Иодай отдали их людям, которые исполняли работу по дому Господа. Они наняли каменщиков и плотников, чтобы обновить дом Господа, и мастеров по работе с железом и бронзой, чтобы восстановить дом.

13 A nd those doing the business work, and there goeth up lengthening to the work by their hand, and they establish the house of God, by its proper measure, and strengthen it.

Рабочие трудились усердно, и работа спорилась у них в руках. Они восстановили Божий дом по его первоначальному замыслу и укрепили его.

14 A nd at their completing, they have brought in before the king and Jehoiada the rest of the money, and they make it vessels for the house of Jehovah, vessels of serving, and of offering up, and spoons, even vessels of gold and silver; and they are causing burnt-offerings to ascend in the house of Jehovah continually, all the days of Jehoiada.

Завершив работу, они принесли оставшиеся деньги царю и Иодаю, и на них была изготовлена утварь для дома Господа: утварь для службы и для всесожжений, а еще блюда и другие вещи из золота и серебра. Пока Иодай был жив, в доме Господа постоянно совершались всесожжения.

15 A nd Jehoiada is aged and satisfied with days, and dieth -- a son of a hundred and thirty years in his death,

Иодай состарился и насытился жизнью. Он умер в возрасте ста тридцати лет.

16 a nd they bury him in the city of David, with the kings, for he hath done good in Israel, and with God, and his house.

Его похоронили с царями в Городе Давида, ради добра, которое он сделал в Израиле для Бога и для Его дома. Иоаш отворачивается от Господа (4 Цар. 12: 17-21)

17 A nd after the death of Jehoiada come in have heads of Judah, and bow themselves to the king; then hath the king hearkened unto them,

После смерти Иодая вожди Иудеи явились на поклон к царю, и он стал прислушиваться к их советам.

18 a nd they forsake the house of Jehovah, God of their fathers, and serve the shrines and the idols, and there is wrath upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their guilt.

Они оставили дом Господа, Бога своих предков, и стали служить столбам Ашеры и идолам. За их вину на Иудею и Иерусалим обрушился Божий гнев.

19 A nd He sendeth among them prophets, to bring them back unto Jehovah, and they testify against them, and they have not given ear;

Хотя Господь посылал к народу пророков, чтобы обратить их к Себе, и хотя пророки свидетельствовали против них, те их не слушали.

20 a nd the Spirit of God hath clothed Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest, and he standeth over-against the people, and saith to them, `Thus said God, Why are ye transgressing the commands of Jehovah, and prosper not? because ye have forsaken Jehovah -- He doth forsake you.'

Тогда Дух Божий сошел на Захарию, сына священника Иодая. Он встал перед народом и сказал: – Так говорит Бог: «Почему вы нарушаете повеления Господа? Не будет вам успеха. Раз вы оставили Господа, то и Он вас оставит».

21 A nd they conspire against him, and stone him with stones by the command of the king, in the court of the house of Jehovah,

Но они составили против него заговор и, по приказу царя, его забили камнями до смерти во дворе Господнего дома.

22 a nd Joash the king hath not remembered the kindness that Jehoiada his father did with him, and slayeth his son, and in his death he said, `Jehovah doth see, and require.'

Царь Иоаш не вспомнил о милости, оказанной ему отцом Захарии Иодаем, и убил его сына, который сказал умирая: – Пусть Господь увидит и взыщет.

23 A nd it cometh to pass, at the turn of the year, come up hath the force of Aram against him, and they come in unto Judah and Jerusalem, and destroy all the heads of the people from the people, and all their spoil they have sent to the king of Damascus,

В конце года на Иоаша двинулось войско Арама. Оно вторглось в Иудею и в Иерусалим и перебило всех правителей народа. Арамеи отослали всю добычу своему царю в Дамаск.

24 f or with few men have the force of Aram come in, and Jehovah hath given into their hand a mighty force for multitude, because they have forsaken Jehovah, God of their fathers; and with Joash they have executed judgments.

Хотя войско Арама было немногочисленным, Господь отдал в их руки гораздо более сильное войско. Так как они оставили Господа, Бога своих отцов, над Иоашем свершился приговор.

25 A nd in their going from him -- for they left him with many diseases -- his servants themselves have conspired against him, for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slay him on his bed, and he dieth; and they bury him in the city of David, and have not buried him in the graves of the kings.

Уходя, арамеи оставили Иоаша сильно израненным. Его приближенные составили против него заговор за убийство сына священника Иодая и убили его в постели. Он умер и был похоронен в Городе Давида, но не в царских гробницах.

26 A nd these those conspiring against him, Zabad son of Shimeath the Ammonitess, and Jehozabad son of Shimrith the Moabitess.

В заговоре против него состояли Завад, сын аммонитянки Шимеаты, и Иегозавад, сын моавитянки Шимриты.

27 A s to his sons, and the greatness of the burden upon him, and the foundation of the house of God, lo, they are written on the `Inquiry' of the book of the Kings; and reign doth Amaziah his son in his stead.

Рассказ о его сыновьях, многочисленные пророчества против него и рассказ о восстановлении дома записаны в «Толкованиях к Книге царей». Амасия, его сын, стал царем вместо него.
