1 A nd the Philistines are fighting against Israel, and the men of Israel flee from the face of the Philistines, and fall wounded in mount Gilboa,

Филистимляне воевали с Израилем, и израильтяне бежали от них и падали на горе Гильбоа.

2 a nd the Philistines follow Saul and his sons, and the Philistines smite Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, sons of Saul.

Филистимляне нагнали Саула и его сыновей и убили его сыновей Ионафана, Авинадава и Малхи-Шуа.

3 A nd the battle is hard against Saul, and the archers find him -- men with bow -- and he is pained greatly by the archers;

Вокруг Саула разгорелась жестокая битва. Лучники нашли его и тяжело ранили.

4 a nd Saul saith to the bearer of his weapons, `Draw thy sword, and pierce me with it, lest they come -- these uncircumcised -- and have pierced me, and rolled themselves on me;' and the bearer of his weapons hath not been willing, for he is greatly afraid, and Saul taketh the sword, and falleth upon it.

Саул сказал своему оруженосцу: − Обнажи меч и заколи меня, иначе эти необрезанные придут, станут глумиться надо мной и убьют меня. Но оруженосец не решился сделать это, потому что очень испугался. Тогда Саул взял свой собственный меч и бросился на него.

5 A nd the bearer of his weapons seeth that Saul dead, and he falleth -- he also -- on his sword, and dieth with him;

Когда оруженосец увидел, что Саул мертв, он тоже бросился на свой меч и умер вместе с ним.

6 a nd Saul dieth, and three of his sons, and the bearer of his weapons, also all his men, on that day together.

Так погибли Саул и его три сына, оруженосец и все его люди погибли в тот же день.

7 A nd they see -- the men of Israel, who beyond the valley, and who beyond the Jordan -- that the men of Israel have fled, and that Saul and his sons have died, and they forsake the cities and flee, and Philistines come in, and dwell in them.

Увидев, что израильское войско разбежалось, а Саул и его сыновья погибли, израильтяне, которые жили на другой стороне долины и за Иорданом, покинули свои города и тоже бежали. А филистимляне пришли и заняли их.

8 A nd it cometh to pass on the morrow, that the Philistines come to strip the wounded, and they find Saul and his three sons fallen on mount Gilboa,

На следующий день, когда филистимляне пришли грабить мертвых, они нашли Саула и трех его сыновей, павших на горе Гильбоа.

9 a nd they cut off his head, and strip off his weapons, and send into the land of the Philistines round about, to proclaim tidings the house of their idols, and the people;

Они отсекли ему голову, сняли оружие и послали вестников по всей филистимской земле, чтобы возвестить об этом в храме своих идолов и народу.

10 a nd they place his weapons the house of Ashtaroth, and his body they have fixed on the wall of Beth-Shan.

Они положили его оружие в храме Астарты и повесили его тело на стене Бет-Шеана.

11 A nd they hear regarding it -- the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead -- that which the Philistines have done to Saul,

Когда жители Иавеша Галаадского услышали о том, что филистимляне сделали с Саулом,

12 a nd all the men of valour arise, and go all the night, and take the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, from the wall of Beth-Shan, and come in to Jabesh, and burn them there,

то все их храбрые воины отправились в путь, шли всю ночь и взяли тела Саула и его сыновей со стены Бет-Шеана. Они пришли в Иавеш и сожгли их там.

13 a nd they take their bones, and bury under the tamarisk in Jabesh, and fast seven days.

Потом они взяли их кости, похоронили под тамариском в Иавеше и постились семь дней.
