1 A nd the man knew Eve his wife, and she conceiveth and beareth Cain, and saith, `I have gotten a man by Jehovah;'

Адам познал Еву, свою жену, и она забеременела и родила Каина. Она сказала: «С помощью Господа я приобрела человека».

2 a nd she addeth to bear his brother, even Abel. And Abel is feeding a flock, and Cain hath been servant of the ground.

Потом она родила его брата Авеля. Авель пас стада, а Каин обрабатывал землю.

3 A nd it cometh to pass at the end of days that Cain bringeth from the fruit of the ground a present to Jehovah;

Через некоторое время Каин принес в дар Господу плоды земли,

4 a nd Abel, he hath brought, he also, from the female firstlings of his flock, even from their fat ones; and Jehovah looketh unto Abel and unto his present,

а Авель пожертвовал жирные части первородных своего стада. Авель и его дар были угодны Господу,

5 a nd unto Cain and unto his present He hath not looked; and it is very displeasing to Cain, and his countenance is fallen.

но Каин и его дар не были угодны Ему. Каин разгневался, и лицо его потемнело от гнева.

6 A nd Jehovah saith unto Cain, `Why hast thou displeasure? and why hath thy countenance fallen?

Тогда Господь сказал Каину: – Почему ты сердишься? Почему твое лицо потемнело?

7 I s there not, if thou dost well, acceptance? and if thou dost not well, at the opening a sin-offering is crouching, and unto thee its desire, and thou rulest over it.'

Если ты будешь поступать правильно, неужели ты не будешь принят? Но если ты поступаешь неправильно, то у твоих дверей притаился грех: он желает овладеть тобой, но ты должен властвовать над ним.

8 A nd Cain saith unto Abel his brother, and it cometh to pass in their being in the field, that Cain riseth up against Abel his brother, and slayeth him.

Каин сказал своему брату Авелю: – Пойдем в поле. Когда они были в поле, Каин накинулся на своего брата Авеля и убил его.

9 A nd Jehovah saith unto Cain, `Where Abel thy brother?' and he saith, `I have not known; my brother's keeper -- I?'

Тогда Господь сказал Каину: – Где твой брат Авель? – Не знаю, – ответил тот. – Разве я сторож моему брату?

10 A nd He saith, `What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood is crying unto Me from the ground;

Господь сказал: – Что ты наделал? Кровь твоего брата взывает ко Мне из земли.

11 a nd now, cursed thou from the ground, which hath opened her mouth to receive the blood of thy brother from thy hand;

Теперь ты проклят, изгнан с земли, которая разверзлась, чтобы принять кровь твоего брата, пролитую твоей рукой.

12 w hen thou tillest the ground, it doth not add to give its strength to thee -- a wanderer, even a trembling one, thou art in the earth.'

Когда ты будешь трудиться на земле, она не станет больше плодоносить для тебя. Ты будешь на земле бесприютным скитальцем.

13 A nd Cain saith unto Jehovah, `Greater is my punishment than to be borne;

Каин сказал Господу: – Мое наказание тяжелее, чем я могу вынести.

14 l o, Thou hast driven me to-day from off the face of the ground, and from Thy face I am hid; and I have been a wanderer, even a trembling one, in the earth, and it hath been -- every one finding me doth slay me.'

Ныне Ты гонишь меня с лица земли, и я буду скрыт от Твоего присутствия: я буду на земле бесприютным скитальцем, и первый же встречный убьет меня.

15 A nd Jehovah saith to him, `Therefore -- of any slayer of Cain sevenfold it is required;' and Jehovah setteth to Cain a token that none finding him doth slay him.

Но Господь сказал ему: – Нет. Если кто убьет Каина, тот примет за это семикратное возмездие. И Господь сделал Каину метку, чтобы никто, встретившись с ним, не убил его.

16 A nd Cain goeth out from before Jehovah, and dwelleth in the land, moving about east of Eden;

Каин ушел от Господа и жил в земле Нод, к востоку от Эдема. Потомки Каина

17 a nd Cain knoweth his wife, and she conceiveth, and beareth Enoch; and he is building a city, and he calleth the name of the city, according to the name of his son -- Enoch.

Каин познал свою жену, и она забеременела и родила Еноха. В то время Каин строил город и назвал его по имени своего сына Еноха.

18 A nd born to Enoch is Irad; and Irad hath begotten Mehujael; and Mehujael hath begotten Methusael; and Methusael hath begotten Lamech.

У Еноха родился Ирад, у Ирада родился Мехиаель, у Мехиаеля родился Метушаэл, и у Метушаэла родился Ламех.

19 A nd Lamech taketh to himself two wives, the name of the one Adah, and the name of the second Zillah.

Ламех взял себе в жены двух женщин: одну звали Ада, другую Цилла.

20 A nd Adah beareth Jabal, he hath been father of those inhabiting tents and purchased possessions;

Ада родила Иавала: он стал отцом тех, кто живет в шатрах и разводит скот.

21 a nd the name of his brother Jubal, he hath been father of every one handling harp and organ.

Его брата звали Иувал: он стал отцом всех, кто играет на арфе и свирели.

22 A nd Zillah she also bare Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron; and a sister of Tubal-Cain Naamah.

У Циллы тоже был сын, Тувал-Каин, который ковал все виды орудий из бронзы и железа. Сестрой Тувал-Каина была Наама.

23 A nd Lamech saith to his wives: -- `Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; Wives of Lamech, give ear my saying: For a man I have slain for my wound, Even a young man for my hurt;

Ламех сказал своим женам: – Ада и Цилла, послушайте меня, жены Ламеха, внимайте моим словам. Я убил мужчину за то, что он ранил меня, юношу за то, что он ударил меня.

24 F or sevenfold is required for Cain, And for Lamech seventy and sevenfold.'

Если за Каина отомстится в семь раз, то за Ламеха в семьдесят семь раз. Сиф и Енос

25 A nd Adam again knoweth his wife, and she beareth a son, and calleth his name Seth, `for God hath appointed for me another seed instead of Abel:' for Cain had slain him.

Адам вновь познал жену свою, и она родила сына и назвала его Сиф, говоря: «Бог даровал мне другое дитя вместо Авеля, которого убил Каин».

26 A nd to Seth, to him also a son hath been born, and he calleth his name Enos; then a beginning was made of preaching in the name of Jehovah.

У Сифа тоже был сын, и он назвал его Енос. В то время люди начали призывать Имя Господа.
