1 A nd the life of Sarah is a hundred and twenty and seven years -- years of the life of Sarah;

2 a nd Sarah dieth in Kirjath-Arba, which Hebron, in the land of Caanan, and Abraham goeth in to mourn for Sarah, and to bewail her.

Она умерла в Кирьят-Арбе (то есть Хевроне), в земле Ханаана, и Авраам пришел горевать по Сарре и оплакивать ее.

3 A nd Abraham riseth up from the presence of his dead, and speaketh unto the sons of Heth, saying,

Потом Авраам отошел от тела покойной жены и обратился к хеттам. Он сказал:

4 ` A sojourner and a settler I with you; give to me a possession of a burying-place with you, and I bury my dead from before me.'

– Я среди вас пришелец и странник. Продайте мне в собственность место для погребения, чтобы я мог похоронить умершую.

5 A nd the sons of Heth answer Abraham, saying to him,

Хетты ответили Аврааму:

6 ` Hear us, my lord; a prince of God thou in our midst; in the choice of our burying-places bury thy dead: none of us his burying-place doth withhold from thee, from burying thy dead.'

– Господин, послушай, ты – могучий вождь среди нас. Похорони умершую в лучшем из наших погребальных мест. Никто из нас не откажет тебе в погребальном месте, чтобы похоронить умершую.

7 A nd Abraham riseth and boweth himself to the people of the land, to the sons of Heth,

Тогда Авраам встал и поклонился людям той земли, хеттам.

8 a nd he speaketh with them, saying, `If it is your desire to bury my dead from before me, hear me, and meet for me with Ephron, son of Zoar;

Он сказал им: – Если вы не против, чтобы я похоронил умершую, то послушайте меня и попросите за меня Эфрона, сына Цохара,

9 a nd he giveth to me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which in the extremity of his field; for full money doth he give it to me, in your midst, for a possession of a burying-place.'

чтобы он продал мне пещеру Махпелу, которая принадлежит ему и находится на краю его поля. Пусть продаст ее мне за полную цену как место для погребения среди вас.

10 A nd Ephron is sitting in the midst of the sons of Heth, and Ephron the Hittite answereth Abraham in the ears of the sons of Heth, of all those entering the gate of his city, saying,

Хетт Эфрон сидел среди своего народа и ответил Аврааму при всех хеттах, которые пришли к воротам его города.

11 ` Nay, my lord, hear me: the field I have given to thee, and the cave that in it, to thee I have given it; before the eyes of the sons of my people I have given it to thee -- bury thy dead.'

Он сказал: – Нет, господин мой, послушай меня. Я отдаю тебе поле и отдаю тебе пещеру, которая на нем. Я отдаю тебе это в присутствии моего народа. Хорони свою умершую.

12 A nd Abraham boweth himself before the people of the land,

Авраам вновь поклонился людям той земли

13 a nd speaketh unto Ephron in the ears of the people of the land, saying, `Only -- if thou wouldst hear me -- I have given the money of the field -- accept from me, and I bury my dead there.'

и сказал Эфрону при них: – Выслушай же и ты меня. Я уплачу цену поля. Прими ее от меня, чтобы я мог похоронить там умершую.

14 A nd Ephron answereth Abraham, saying to him,

Эфрон ответил Аврааму:

15 ` My lord, hear me: the land -- four hundred shekels of silver; between me and thee, what it? -- thy dead bury.'

– Послушай меня, господин мой: земля ценой в четыреста шекелей серебра – разве это много для тебя или для меня? Хорони свою умершую.

16 A nd Abraham hearkeneth unto Ephron, and Abraham weigheth to Ephron the silver which he hath spoken of in the ears of the sons of Heth, four hundred silver shekels, passing with the merchant.

Авраам согласился с условиями Эфрона и отвесил ему цену поля, названную при хеттах: четыреста шекелей серебра, по мере, принятой у купцов.

17 A nd established are the field of Ephron, which in Machpelah, which before Mamre, the field and the cave which in it, and all the trees which in the field, which in all its border round about,

Так поле Эфрона в Махпеле рядом с Мамре – и поле, и пещера на нем, и все деревья в границах поля – перешли

18 t o Abraham by purchase, before the eyes of the sons of Heth, among all entering the gate of his city.

в собственность Аврааму в присутствии всех хеттов, которые пришли к городским воротам.

19 A nd after this hath Abraham buried Sarah his wife at the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre (which Hebron), in the land of Canaan;

После этого Авраам похоронил свою жену Сарру в пещере на поле Махпела рядом с Мамре (что в Хевроне), в земле Ханаана.

20 a nd established are the field, and the cave which in it, to Abraham for a possession of a burying-place, from the sons of Heth.

И поле, и пещера на нем перешли от хеттов в собственность Аврааму как место для погребения.
