1 T hat which hath been the word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah concerning the matters of the dearths:

Вот слово Господне о засухе, которое было Иеремии:

2 M ourned hath Judah, and her gates have languished, They have mourned to the earth, And the cry of Jerusalem hath gone up.

– Плачет Иудея, томятся ее врата; люди скорбно сидят на земле, и воплем исходит Иерусалим.

3 A nd their honourable ones have sent their little ones to the water, They have come unto ditches, They have not found water, They have turned back -- their vessels empty! They have been ashamed, And have blushed and covered their head.

Знать посылает своих слуг за водой, те приходят к колодцам и не находят воды. Несут пустые кувшины домой, смущенные, обескураженные, они покрывают свои головы.

4 B ecause the ground hath been broken, For there hath been no rain in the land, Ashamed have been husbandmen, They have covered their head.

Трескается земля в стране, пораженной бездождьем, и земледельцы в смущении покрывают свои головы.

5 F or even the hind in the field hath brought forth -- to forsake For there hath been no grass.

Даже лань бросает в поле своего новорожденного детеныша, потому что не осталось травы.

6 A nd wild asses have stood on high places, They have swallowed up wind like dragons, Consumed have been their eyes, for there is no herb.

Дикие ослы, стоя на голых кряжах, глотают воздух, словно шакалы; их глаза потускнели, потому что погибла зелень.

7 S urely our iniquities have testified against us, O Jehovah, work for Thy name's sake, For many have been our backslidings, Against Thee we have sinned.

– Наши грехи обличают нас, Господи, но сделай что-нибудь ради Своего Имени! Тяжко наше отступничество, мы согрешили пред Тобой.

8 O Hope of Israel -- its saviour in time of trouble, Why art Thou as a sojourner in the land? And as a traveller turned aside to lodge?

Надежда Израиля, Спаситель во время скорби, почему же Ты в этой стране, как чужак, словно путник, свернувший с дороги переночевать?

9 W hy art Thou as one dumb? As a mighty one not able to save? And Thou in our midst, O Jehovah, And Thy name over us is called, leave us not.

Почему Ты как тот, кто сражен замешательством, точно могучий воин, бессильный спасти? Господи, Ты среди нас, Твоим Именем мы названы, не оставляй нас!

10 T hus said Jehovah concerning this people: Well they have loved to wander, Their feet they have not restrained, And Jehovah hath not accepted them, Now doth He remember their iniquity, And inspect their sin.

Так говорит Господь об этом народе: – Поистине, любят они бродить и своих ног не удерживают. За это Господь не благоволит к ним; Он вспомнит их беззакония и накажет их за грехи.

11 A nd Jehovah saith unto me: Thou dost not pray for this people for good,

Господь сказал мне: – Не молись о благополучии этого народа.

12 W hen they fast, I hearken not unto their cry, And when they cause to ascend burnt-offering and present, I accept them not, For by sword, and by famine, And by pestilence, I am consuming them.

Пусть постятся, но Я не услышу их вопля; пусть возносят всесожжения и хлебные приношения, но Я не приму их. Да, Я погублю их мечом, голодом и мором.

13 A nd I say, `Ah, Lord Jehovah, Lo, the prophets are saying to them: Ye do not see a sword, yea, famine is not to you, For true peace I give to you in this place.'

И тогда сказал я: – Владыка Господь, пророки твердят им: «Не увидите меча, голода у вас не будет, но нерушимый мир подарю Я вам в этом крае».

14 A nd Jehovah saith unto me: Falsehood the prophets are prophesying in My name, I did not send them, nor command them, Nor have I spoken unto them: A false vision, and divination, and vanity, And the deceit of their own heart, they are prophesying to you.

И Господь сказал мне: – Ложь пророчествуют пророки от Моего Имени. Я не посылал их, не давал им повелений и не говорил с ними. Видения ложные, пустую ворожбу и лживость собственных сердец пророчествуют они вам.

15 T herefore, thus said Jehovah concerning the prophets who are prophesying in My name, and I have not sent them, and they are saying, Sword and famine is not in this land: By sword and by famine are these prophets consumed.

Поэтому так говорит Господь о пророках, кто пророчествует от Моего Имени, хотя Я не посылал их, и говорят: «Ни меча, ни голода не будет в этой стране», – от меча и от голода падут эти пророки.

16 A nd the people to whom they are prophesying, Are cast into out-places of Jerusalem, Because of the famine, and of the sword, And they have none burying them, Them, their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, And I have poured out upon them this evil.

А народ, которому они пророчествуют, будет разметан по улицам Иерусалима голодом и мечом, и некому будет хоронить ни их самих, ни их жен, ни их сыновей, ни дочерей. Я обрушу на них беду, которую они заслужили.

17 A nd thou hast said unto them this word: Tears come down mine eyes night and day, And they do not cease, For, a great breach, Broken hath been the virgin daughter of my people, A very grievous stroke.

Вот что скажи им: – Пусть льются из моих глаз слезы, не переставая ни днем, ни ночью, потому что девственная дочь – народ мой – получила страшную рану, сражена могучим ударом.

18 I f I have gone forth to the field, Then, lo, the pierced of the sword! And if I have entered the city, Then, lo, the diseased of famine! For both prophet and priest have gone up and down Unto a land that they knew not.

В поле ли выйду – там погибшие от меча, войду ли в город – там умирающие от голода. И пророк, и священник бродят по земле, не зная, что делают

19 H ast Thou utterly rejected Judah? Zion hath Thy soul loathed? Wherefore hast Thou smitten us, And there is no healing to us? Looking for peace, and there is no good, And for a time of healing, and lo, terror.

– Разве навек Ты отверг Иудею? Разве Сион Тебе опротивел? Зачем Ты поразил нас так, что нет для нас исцеления? Ждем мы мира, а ничего доброго нет; ждем времени исцеления, а вместо этого – ужасы.

20 W e have known, O Jehovah, our wickedness, The iniquity of our fathers, For we have sinned against Thee.

Господь, мы признаем нашу неправедность и вину наших отцов; мы согрешили пред Тобой.

21 D o not despise, for Thy name's sake, Dishonour not the throne of Thine honour, Remember, break not Thy covenant with us.

Не отвергай нас, ради Своего Имени; не унижай престол Своей славы. Вспомни и не расторгай Свой завет с нами.

22 A re there among the vanities of the nations any causing rain? And do the heavens give showers? Art not Thou He, O Jehovah our God? And we wait for thee, for Thou -- Thou hast done all these!

Могут ли ничтожные идолы народов дождь ниспослать? Может ли небо само ливнем пролиться? Разве не от Тебя это, Господи, Бог наш? Мы надеемся на Тебя, так как Ты все это творишь.
