1 A nd reign doth king Zedekiah son of Josiah instead of Coniah son of Jehoiakim whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had caused to reign in the land of Judah,

Навуходоносор, царь Вавилона поставил Цедекию, сына Иосии, царем Иудеи, и он правил вместо Иехонии, сына Иоакима.

2 a nd he hath not hearkened, he, and his servants, and the people of the land, unto the words of Jehovah, that He spake by the hand of Jeremiah the prophet.

Ни он, ни его слуги, ни народ страны не слушали слов Господа, произнесенных через пророка Иеремию.

3 A nd Zedekiah the king sendeth Jehucal son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah son of Maaseiah the priest, unto Jeremiah the prophet, saying, `Pray, we beseech thee, for us unto Jehovah our God.'

Однако царь Цедекия послал Иегухала, сына Шелемии, со священником Софонией, сыном Маасеи, к пророку Иеремии, чтобы сказать: «Прошу тебя, помолись о нас Господу, нашему Богу».

4 A nd Jeremiah is coming in and going out in the midst of the people, (and they have not put him in the prison-house),

Иеремия тогда еще жил свободно среди народа, потому что еще не был брошен в темницу.

5 a nd the force of Pharaoh hath come out of Egypt, and the Chaldeans, who are laying siege against Jerusalem, hear their report, and go up from off Jerusalem.

Войско фараона выступило из Египта, и халдеи, которые осаждали Иерусалим, услышав об этом, отступили из-под Иерусалима.

6 A nd there is a word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah the prophet, saying:

И было к пророку Иеремии слово Господа:

7 ` Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Thus do ye say unto the king of Judah, who is sending you unto Me, to seek Me: Lo, the force of Pharaoh that is coming out to you for help hath turned back to its land, to Egypt,

– Так говорит Господь, Бог Израиля: Скажи царю Иудеи, который послал вас вопросить Меня: «Войско фараона, которое выступило тебе на помощь, вернется в свою собственную землю, в Египет,

8 a nd the Chaldeans have turned back, and fought against this city, and captured it, and burnt it with fire.

а халдеи вернутся и нападут на этот город; они захватят его и сожгут».

9 ` Thus said Jehovah: Lift not up your souls saying, The Chaldeans surely go from off us, for they do not go;

Так говорит Господь: Не обманывайте себя, думая: «Халдеи непременно отойдут от нас». Они не отойдут.

10 f or though ye had smitten all the force of the Chaldeans who are fighting with you, and there were left of them wounded men -- each in his tent -- they rise, and have burnt this city with fire.'

Даже если бы вы одолели все войско халдеев, воюющее против вас, и только раненые остались бы у них в палатках, то и они вышли бы и сожгли этот город.

11 A nd it hath come to pass, in the going up of the force of the Chaldeans from off Jerusalem, because of the force of Pharaoh,

После того, как вавилонское войско отступило из-под Иерусалима из-за приближения войск фараона,

12 t hat Jeremiah goeth out from Jerusalem to go the land of Benjamin, to receive a portion thence in the midst of the people.

Иеремия тронулся в путь из Иерусалима в землю Вениамина, чтобы получить свою долю имущества среди своих родственников.

13 A nd it cometh to pass, he is at the gate of Benjamin, and there a master of the ward -- and his name is Irijah son of Shelemiah, son of Hananiah -- and he catcheth Jeremiah the prophet, saying, `Unto the Chaldeans thou art falling.'

Когда он добрался до вениаминовых ворот, начальник стражи, которого звали Ирея, сын Шелемии, сына Ханании, задержал его и сказал: – Ты хочешь перебежать к халдеям!

14 A nd Jeremiah saith, `Falsehood -- I am not falling unto the Chaldeans;' and he hath not hearkened unto him, and Irijah layeth hold on Jeremiah, and bringeth him in unto the heads,

– Неправда! – сказал Иеремия. – Я не собираюсь перебегать к халдеям. Но Ирея не стал его слушать; он взял Иеремию под стражу и отвел его к приближенным царя.

15 a nd the heads are wroth against Jeremiah, and have smitten him, and put him in the prison-house -- the house of Jonathan the scribe, for it they had made for a prison-house.

Они разгневались на Иеремию и велели его избить, и посадить под замок в доме писаря Ионафана, в котором они устроили темницу.

16 W hen Jeremiah hath entered into the house of the dungeon, and unto the cells, then Jeremiah dwelleth there many days,

Иеремию бросили в подземную темницу, где он просидел много дней.

17 a nd the king Zedekiah sendeth, and taketh him, and the king asketh him in his house in secret, and saith, `Is there a word from Jehovah?' And Jeremiah saith, `There is,' and he saith, `Into the hand of the king of Babylon thou art given.'

Потом царь Цедекия послал за ним, его привели, и царь тайно расспрашивал его у себя во дворце: – Есть ли какое слово от Господа? – Есть, – ответил Иеремия. – Ты будешь отдан в руки царя Вавилона.

18 A nd Jeremiah saith unto the king Zedekiah, `What have I sinned against thee, and against thy servants, and against this people, that ye have given me unto a prison-house?

Иеремия сказал царю Цедекии: – Какое преступление я совершил против тебя, твоих приближенных или этого народа, что вы бросили меня в темницу?

19 A nd where your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, The king of Babylon doth not come in against you, and against this land?

Где ваши пророки, которые пророчествовали вам: «Царь Вавилона не пойдет против вас и против этой страны».

20 A nd now, hearken, I pray thee, my lord, O king, let my supplication fall, I pray thee, before thee, and cause me not to return the house of Jonathan the scribe, that I die not there.'

Но сейчас, умоляю, выслушай, господин мой царь. Позволь обратиться с просьбой к тебе: не отсылай меня назад в дом писаря Ионафана, иначе я умру там.

21 A nd the king Zedekiah commandeth, and they commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, also to give to him a cake of bread daily from the bakers' street, till the consumption of all the bread of the city, and Jeremiah dwelleth in the court of the prison.

Царь Цедекия приказал заточить Иеремию в темницу при царском дворце и выдавать ему с улицы пекарей по лепешке в день, пока не осталось хлеба в городе. Так Иеремия остался в царской темнице.
