1 A nd reign doth king Zedekiah son of Josiah instead of Coniah son of Jehoiakim whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had caused to reign in the land of Judah,

En lugar de Conías hijo de Joacim reinó el rey Sedequías hijo de Josías, al cual Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, constituyó por rey en la tierra de Judá.

2 a nd he hath not hearkened, he, and his servants, and the people of the land, unto the words of Jehovah, that He spake by the hand of Jeremiah the prophet.

Pero no obedecieron ni él ni sus siervos ni el pueblo de la tierra a las palabras de Jehová, las cuales dijo por medio del profeta Jeremías.

3 A nd Zedekiah the king sendeth Jehucal son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah son of Maaseiah the priest, unto Jeremiah the prophet, saying, `Pray, we beseech thee, for us unto Jehovah our God.'

Envió el rey Sedequías a Jucal hijo de Selemías y al sacerdote Sofonías hijo de Maasías para que dijeran al profeta Jeremías: «Ruega ahora por nosotros a Jehová, nuestro Dios.»

4 A nd Jeremiah is coming in and going out in the midst of the people, (and they have not put him in the prison-house),

Y Jeremías entraba y salía en medio del pueblo, porque todavía no lo habían puesto en la cárcel.

5 a nd the force of Pharaoh hath come out of Egypt, and the Chaldeans, who are laying siege against Jerusalem, hear their report, and go up from off Jerusalem.

Cuando ya el ejército del faraón había salido de Egipto y llegó la noticia de ello a oídos de los caldeos que tenían sitiada a Jerusalén, se retiraron de Jerusalén.

6 A nd there is a word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah the prophet, saying:

Entonces vino palabra de Jehová al profeta Jeremías, diciendo:

7 ` Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Thus do ye say unto the king of Judah, who is sending you unto Me, to seek Me: Lo, the force of Pharaoh that is coming out to you for help hath turned back to its land, to Egypt,

«Así ha dicho Jehová, Dios de Israel, que digáis al rey de Judá, que os envió a mí para que me consultarais: “El ejército del faraón, que había salido en vuestro socorro, se ha vuelto a la tierra de Egipto.

8 a nd the Chaldeans have turned back, and fought against this city, and captured it, and burnt it with fire.

Por eso, los caldeos vendrán de nuevo, atacarán esta ciudad, la tomarán y le prenderán fuego.

9 ` Thus said Jehovah: Lift not up your souls saying, The Chaldeans surely go from off us, for they do not go;

Así dice Jehová: No os engañéis a vosotros mismos, diciendo: ‘Sin duda, los caldeos se irán ya de aquí’, porque no se irán,

10 f or though ye had smitten all the force of the Chaldeans who are fighting with you, and there were left of them wounded men -- each in his tent -- they rise, and have burnt this city with fire.'

porque aun cuando derrotarais a todo el ejército de los caldeos que pelean contra vosotros, y solamente quedaran de ellos algunos hombres heridos, cada uno se levantaría de su tienda para prender fuego a esta ciudad.”»

11 A nd it hath come to pass, in the going up of the force of the Chaldeans from off Jerusalem, because of the force of Pharaoh,

Aconteció que cuando el ejército de los caldeos se retiró de Jerusalén a causa del ejército del faraón,

12 t hat Jeremiah goeth out from Jerusalem to go the land of Benjamin, to receive a portion thence in the midst of the people.

Jeremías salía de Jerusalén para irse a tierra de Benjamín, para apartarse de en medio del pueblo.

13 A nd it cometh to pass, he is at the gate of Benjamin, and there a master of the ward -- and his name is Irijah son of Shelemiah, son of Hananiah -- and he catcheth Jeremiah the prophet, saying, `Unto the Chaldeans thou art falling.'

Y cuando llegó a la puerta de Benjamín, estaba allí un capitán que se llamaba Irías hijo de Selemías hijo de Hananías, el cual apresó al profeta Jeremías, diciendo: «¡Tú te pasas a los caldeos!»

14 A nd Jeremiah saith, `Falsehood -- I am not falling unto the Chaldeans;' and he hath not hearkened unto him, and Irijah layeth hold on Jeremiah, and bringeth him in unto the heads,

Jeremías dijo: «¡Falso, no me paso a los caldeos!» Pero él no le escuchó, sino que prendió Irías a Jeremías y lo llevó delante de sus jefes.

15 a nd the heads are wroth against Jeremiah, and have smitten him, and put him in the prison-house -- the house of Jonathan the scribe, for it they had made for a prison-house.

Los jefes se airaron contra Jeremías. Lo azotaron y lo pusieron en prisión en la casa del escriba Jonatán, la cual habían convertido en cárcel.

16 W hen Jeremiah hath entered into the house of the dungeon, and unto the cells, then Jeremiah dwelleth there many days,

Entró, pues, Jeremías en la casa de la cisterna y en las bóvedas. Y habiendo estado allá Jeremías por muchos días,

17 a nd the king Zedekiah sendeth, and taketh him, and the king asketh him in his house in secret, and saith, `Is there a word from Jehovah?' And Jeremiah saith, `There is,' and he saith, `Into the hand of the king of Babylon thou art given.'

el rey Sedequías envió y lo sacó; y le preguntó el rey secretamente en su casa, diciendo: «¿Hay palabra de Jehová?» Jeremías dijo: «Hay»; y agregó: «En manos del rey de Babilonia serás entregado.»

18 A nd Jeremiah saith unto the king Zedekiah, `What have I sinned against thee, and against thy servants, and against this people, that ye have given me unto a prison-house?

Dijo también Jeremías al rey Sedequías: «¿En qué pequé contra ti, contra tus siervos y contra este pueblo, para que me pusierais en la cárcel?

19 A nd where your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, The king of Babylon doth not come in against you, and against this land?

¿Dónde están vuestros profetas que os profetizaban diciendo: “No vendrá el rey de Babilonia contra vosotros ni contra esta tierra”?

20 A nd now, hearken, I pray thee, my lord, O king, let my supplication fall, I pray thee, before thee, and cause me not to return the house of Jonathan the scribe, that I die not there.'

Escucha, pues, te ruego, mi señor, el rey, atiende ahora mi súplica que traigo delante de ti: ¡No me hagas volver a casa del escriba Jonatán, para que no me muera allí!»

21 A nd the king Zedekiah commandeth, and they commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, also to give to him a cake of bread daily from the bakers' street, till the consumption of all the bread of the city, and Jeremiah dwelleth in the court of the prison.

Entonces dio orden el rey Sedequías, y custodiaron a Jeremías en el patio de la cárcel, haciéndole dar una torta de pan al día, de la calle de los Panaderos, hasta que todo el pan de la ciudad se agotara. Y quedó Jeremías en el patio de la cárcel.
